Okay.. we had a thread like this before, but I’ll say it again.
As a movie on itself, it was okay really. But I don’t think it deserved the name "Final Fantasy". Why not? Simple. All FF games contain some sort of magic, older weapons like swords and staffs, and are set in a medieval time, or at least not in the future. FF:TSW didn’t have this at all, and that’s why I don’t like it so much.. It does barely relate to any FF game at all 😮

The graphics were breathtaking – but I’d truthfully heard so much about it that my expectations were high. I saw it in the theatre on opening day, and was disappointed. I got it again on video with lower expectations and it was still pretty boring.
The dream sequences were ok…but did I miss something the movie was called Final Fantasy!!! (and I know they wanted to get some serious awards or something but COME ON!!)
Where were the damn chocobos?! They didn’t even name the captain of the ship Cid/Cyd! There was none of the light and fun that comes with FF, so the dark side wasn’t as interesting.
For those who didn’t see it, and have played the games, I’d say it’s most like the deeper parts of FF7. It over-explains the Gaeia theory and then ends. For those who hadn’t played the game and saw the movie, I had to explain the ending over and over. Pretty annoying.

There are actually some referances to chocobos in the movie. Once when Aki wakes up after having ‘the’ dream , it says ‘Chocobo’ on her T-shirt and at one time in the movie i think you can see a pic of a chocobo, anyway i understand what you mean.
And the fact that they named the professor Sid and not Cid is just plain annoying.
I think it’s a good movie and i don’t regret buying it somehow, but it feels that the only reason it’s even called Final Fantasy is so it would do well in the boxoffice…which it didn’t anyway so :D…
btw: if you got the dvd version make sure you listen to the japanese commentary track, it’s great fun.
at least, FFmovie has a cool story, afterall;)
But if you buy the DVD version you get an extra called Aki’s Photos man are they good………
I don’t regret paying to see it in the movies. The ending wasn’t that great, and they didn’t explain the story line well enough. I know my dad (who never played a Final Fantasy game in his life) saw it also and he had absolutely no clue what was going on.
The only thing I thought it had that was related to Final Fantasy was the General reminded me of the President of Shinra?? Am I the only one that noticed this?
he actually reminded me of the proffesor hojo from ff7 or sephiroth either or
