Actually, no, it’s because The Dark Messenger is the tune that defines Kuja, and that defines the whole crisis situation at the time when you hear it, that this is it, all or nothing. This tune IS FINAL FANTASY IX.

Um, I just fought him and what are these moves you’re talking about? Because the only power move he (Trance Kuja) ever used on me was Flare Star.

You can first meet Sailor Erin on your very first visit to Lindblum. You can talk to her in one of the hallways in the castle and she’ll even tell you her name, but the conversation doesn’t continue for too long. Then, she shows up on Disc 3 in the Card Battle. If you win the first two card battles, then she’s your opponent. One of the two people standing outside the card stadium says that she’s a master at winning card games with Oglop cards and she’s called "Oglop Master Erin." Win or lose, after the battle, you’ll have some conversation with Cid, although you don’t really get to talk with her much. She later shows up as the pilot on the ariship Hilda Garde III. You talk to her when you want to take off.

Um, so, my vote? Yeah, Sailor Erin. Could be the only one, but I may as well throw a little love her way.

Okay. Current vote. I vote for Steiner. Steiner could easily kick Kuja’s butt – Climhazzard/Shock anyone? Steiner is also funny, whereas Kuja is just well evil. And annoying.

Kuja on the other hand, was great. His arrogance and ego were unmatched, and his constant stream of awesome one-liners was only matched by the genius of Kefka in FFVI.

Ohhh… two choices. only one decision..

Oh well, I’ll take the road less traveled and vote Steiner…

This is a battle of random guys i popped in. Begin!

Mikoto was a character you could sympathaise with, as although she carried the same cold, aloof persona as the rest of the regular Genomes, when Zidane came to his senses in Pandemonium she started to show the same, caring personality of her ‘brother’. And, after you defeat Kuja and the Iifa Tree begins it’s ‘reaction’, you see Mikoto standing there, apparently concerned for Zidane and Kuja.

Zorn and Thorn were just obnoxious little creeps (and yes, both were pretty much identical in character so I’ll refer to them together even though the ‘poll’ is only for Thorn.

So, Mikoto it is for me.

True, but you have to work alot to get theivery to do 9999… Plus Vivi can do double Flare (or any other spell) during Trance and can do up to 19998… Yeah Flare is unlikely to do 9999 all the time, but it still does 9999… During Trance, if each of Vivi’s Flare does atleast 5000, then he did more than Zidane could do… 🙂 :confused: :eye: :erm:

Alexandria (History: Run by Queen Brahne until Bahamut kiled her. Alexandria’s queen became Garnet and was destroyed soon afterwards. At the start, it was considered the evil, but it became good after the new queen reigned. Was everntually fully rebuilt. Key places are the underground escape, the bell tower and Ruby’s theatre.)

Qu’s Marsh (Quina’s home. Contains many many many frogs and good weapons for Quina. No history available. Key place are the frog places and the passage to Fossil Roo I believe.)

Burmecia (Got destroyed in the previous war before FF9…where you fight Beatrix for the first time…and lose. Also where you first see Kuja, and it ends Disk 1 there also. Key place is the large room with Brahne, Kuja and Beatrix…you learn stuff there.)

Oeilivert (Place where you verse Ark at the end. Has secrets of Gaia in it. Key places are the shrine of the heads and the round room with the Gaia projection on.)

Anyway, because of that , I’ll go against everyone and vote for Oeilvert, if only because of the awesome music.

So, Oeilvert it is for me.

And incidently Roukie, Burmecia was destroyed by Alexandria at the start of the game, not in another war which happened before the game. It was the first city that Brahne attacked with the Black Mage Army following the Prima Vista’s escape from Alexandria.

SPOILER

If you go to the North Gate linking Alexandria with Burmecia straight after leaving the Evil Forest in disc 1, the party finds the gate locked with smoke rising from above the gate, faint sounds of battle drifting across and black flags flapping in the breeze – Alexandria’s war decleration – Steiner says so himself.

Therefore, by the time your party arrives at Burmecia, it’s already been ransacked and lies in ruins, (the royal palace where you fight Beatrix is actually still smouldering from the invasion), with most of the citizens having fled to Cleyra. Just thought I’d clarify that.

Well, Burmecia wins (yes it was destroyed after the game started, I should play FF9 again, but like I said, I’m just trying to remember most of things, no research involved) and a comfortable one also of 3-1.

Next rumble is…

Lindblum (The 3rd out of the 3 big powers that I’ve mentioned, and it also gets destroyed. It’s damn big, and the music ain’t shabby. Key places are the airship docks, Regent Cid’s palace and Dragon’s Gate I believe it’s called.)

Dali (Little village past South Gate after the Ice Cavern…well, you can get a model ship of some sort from the coffee quest there…and that’s about it. Key places are that coffee guy’s place and the underground mines where Black Mages are made.)

So, let it begin then!

Don’t get me wrong. Dali was nice and quiet (well, except for the whole Black Mage manufacturing racket though), but, it seemed too backward (and the mayor was a single-minded avairitic creep too). So, Lindblum for me.

Lindblum is too technical for me… I’d get lost in 10 seconds… Not much to really do there either, except the Festival of Hunt but you can always go to Lindblum from wherever you live… :eye:

Ok next is…..

Desert Palace (Kuja’s little puzzle fun quest…a bitch to get through at any level. Key places…ummm, mostly rooms with damn torch puzzles. There’s a teleporter too :P)

Ice Cavern (that cave with ice and the first Black Mage guy appearing. I honestly can’t say any key places)

Cleyra (Gets destroyed basically at the start of disk 2. Surrounded by whirlwinds and really…isn’t exciting. Key places are the church and the place where you save puck from that boss.)

Daguerrio (I think that’s how it’s spelt. The city atop a tall hill that has those dragons that level your party. Anyway, it’s got the Namingway thing that lets you change party’s names. You can get Excalibur there and the Synth shop is useful. Key place is the middle floor with that name changer guy.)

Daguerreo at least had all the cool item and weapon stores, plus the guy who’s obssessed with FFIV’s Namingways, an old man who holds Excalibur, along with Gilgamesh lurking around trying to look important. That, and because I like reading, the whole concept of a town that’s effectively a library really appealled to me!

So Daguerreo it is for me.

Chocobo Forest (A forest where you dig and get things…)

My vote for this one is definitely the Chocobo Paradise. The Air Garden is annoying how it moves around and is the worst place for playing "Chocobo Hot and Cold." (Because you have to keep zipping from one side to the other it’s so hard to get a good score.) The only cool thing about it is Ozma and he isn’t even all that exciting. The Chocobo Paradise was pretty neat, with the fat chocobo and all and the whole Mene plotline, although they should have included the fat chocobo theme music. (But hey, they did include the famous moogle theme in the game, so maybe that’s asking a bit too much.)

And the whole concept of Fat Chocobo being the chocobo king was fitting as it was clever as another early FF reference (well, at least this time around he didn’t eat items on board the Invincible, later reguigtating them again when needed this time around though, like he did in FFIII! lol)

Mognet Central definetley. Condie Petie just can’t compete. I mean, the remix of Mog’s Theme in Mognet Central is fitting, and is quite nice to see the moogles busy when they’ve got their machine up and running again after Artiemcian stole the machine’s lubricant to make his coat shiny!

The cute little moogles are always in a class of their own! Kupo! So, Mogent Central for me, Kupo! (Damn, now I can’t stop saying that!)

Black Mage Village (Secret Village of Black Mages that were Kuja’s slaves. Key place would be the graveyard)

Earth Shrine (Only shrine where you actually fight in so I include it. Has bitch-of-a-boss Earth Guardian inside)

The Earth Shrine was cool though – Lich was every bit as menacing as he was all the way back in 1990 in the original FF1 – and the music (Successive Battles) was suitable for the quick yet tense moments spent negotiating the many traps to reach the Earth Guardian. However, I still perfer the Black Mage Village though.

Still having a fair few left, moving right along…

*SPOILERS*

Iifa Tree (Place where you fight that huge mist guy that uses your fire attacks to kick your ass. That would be the key place, where you fight him and see all the lifestream-like stuff)

Memoria (Final place of the game. Has every card in the game here I bet, those Phantoms have everything. Key place is the end place where you fight Kuja and Necron)

Anyways, I vote for Iifa Tree… It’s a scary, but cool place… Has a pretty good storyline plot and an awesome, ironic boss… Memoria, to me, was a disappointment to me as the "final area". It’s too long… Getting from the beginning al the way to the end will take a while, plus with all those random encounters too… The Guardians were cool but that still cannot make up for the bad location…

Technically, the Iifa Tree and Memoria are one and the same, as Memoria is floating above the Iifa Tree, and self-destructs after you’ve bet the final boss.

So therefore, I guess I’ll go for Memoria. I mean, it has a cool name, the whole concept is bizzare and cool at the same time (being created entirely from the party’s deapest memories, as it’s name suggests), and it also makes the final dungeon as a part of the story, unlike most RPGS where the final dungeon is just being an obstacle course filled with really nasty monsters before you face the last boss.

Also, having Garland’s spirit explaining the meaning of life and the creation of Gaia to Zidane as the party explored deeper into the place added an extra degree of uneasiness, especially as the game’s logo, the Crystal of Life, was right at the end of it – and so was Kuja – who’s now totally lost all reason and sanity – and wants to destroy the crystal – thereby destorying the Universe with it.

Having to fight the Four Fiends of Chaos from FFI as the Four Guardians of Terra in Memoria, also was an interesting twist to long-time FF fans, as was Deathguise, who looks very much like Doomgaze from FFVI, appearing to be yet another reference to a past FF game, which was one of the main reasons why I liked FFIX so much!

So, Memoria it is for me.

So, as a tiebreaker, I vote Memoria. I believe it has more "stuff" in it, like Hades’ Synth shop where you get Ark, many bosses etc…

So without further ado, next rumble is…

Ipsen’s Castle (Place where you go to get those Shrine things. It’s kewl cause it inverts youer stats, allowing your to learn abilities from older and weaker inventory)

Madain Sari (Eiko’s home. Village of the Summoners (when there were some. Has the wall of Eidolons and that’s about it.)

I found the Ipsen’s castle thing sort of lame. It inverts your weapons, but magic still works like normal, so you can basically just pound enemies with magic.

The fact that the place is now overrun with moogles too is cool as well, plus you also fight Amarant there as well, who is totally cool. Finally, when Zidane and Vivi share that little… ‘rite of male bonding’ (i.e., they ‘crossed swords’, I cracked up laughing, remembering how I used to do just that with my friends in the boys toilets when I was 8! lol

Annnnnnyyyyyway… Madain Sari it is for me. Ipsen’s Castle gains points for funky design and good music though…

*SPOILERS, as usual*

Mt Gulug (Well, I’ll include the spiritual place before it for this, the mountain itself has a better quality song version of the Gurugu Mountain in FF1, and sounds awesome. No real special places, except at the bottom with Hilde and Mog turning into Madain.)

P.S. Zidane didn’t really plan his parties very well for the assualt on the Four Shrines. He should have sent Eiko and Garnet to the Earth Shrine, seeing as how they’re White Mages, and would take care of any pesky undead very very quickly! Guess battle tactics aren’t really his strong point. lol

Meltigemini on the other hand, was a fitting end to those two obnoxious little creeps Zorn and Thorn, and it was a remarkably easy boss to get rid of too. Just have Garnet cast Mini on it and it’s a wimp. It’s only attack you have to be wary of is Virus, which if you happen to have a healthy supply of Vaccines on you, then it’s nothing to worry about. Otherwise you won’t recieve any AP after the battle (as it’s a boss you don’t gain experience anyway..).

Hades (In Memoria…in the place that looks like it’s underwater…you go behind the rock to right and fight him. Not too hard in my terms…I beat him first shot. Plus when you beat him, he opens up an awesome Synth shop)

Yeah right, as if anyone would listen to that!

Despite his lame attempts at intimidation, Black Waltz #2 is nothing compared to the awesome Hades.

Athough Hades wasn’t too hard to fight, he had awesome music (Hunter’s Chance, from the Festival of the Hunt in disc 1), and of course, once you defeat him, he opens up the ultimate Synthesis Shop, which gives you access to, amongst other things, the Pumice, Ethers, Tin Armour, and Save the Queen!

What does Black Waltz #2 give you? A lot of HP to fight and some pretty silly trash-talk. Sure, he had some decent stuff to steal, but other than that, he wasn’t really anything to write home about.

So, Hades for me, the Ultimate Synthesist!

Next up…one I want to get out of the way.

*SPOILERS*

Kuja (When you fight him at the end of Disk 3 in his normal state. Then he goes Trance and uses Ultima.)

Trance-Kuja (He stays Trance for a much longer time than Zidane and co. can. Odd. You fight him at the end of Disk 4 as Trance and he seems less invincible than when he destroyed Terra)

Trance Kuja, without a doubt. He looked cool, his music was awesome (Dark Messenger), the setting was brilliant, and well, he rocked! His original form was cool enough, but his whole ‘Trance’ form made him one of the best ‘almost the final bosses’ in the FF series! Rock on Trance Kuja!

Zorn and Thorn (Well, I decided to do these together because they attack exactly the same. They fight you when you’re about to save Garnet in Alexandria on Disk 2.)

Ark (Well, although it is the final Eidolon, it’s a boss in Oeilvert (sp) and it makes you float, only to screw you up afterwards.)

Prison Cage (The things that captures Vivi and Garnet in Evil Forest. You verse it twice but you never do kill it. It is sort of a boss. It saps HP from it’s prey)

BEGIN!

Nothing like having to fight a huge undead airship at the bottom of an ancient ruin for a boss! Sure, it may be hard to fight (especially with no magic, courtesy of Oelivert’s anti-magic seal), but the Holy Lance you can steal from it, plus the Pumice Piece you get for defeating it is sweet.

Prison Cage was just an anonoying time-waster. So, Garnet’s ultimate Eidolon for me.

So next up…

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS*

Ralvuimago (This guy chases you through Fossil Roo and eventually falls down a large gap in the bridge. I don’t know if you can destroy it or not.)

Black Mage #3 (This guy’s a pain eh? He destroys some black mages then you fight him on the ship and beat him. Then he chases you through South Gate and crashes. He reappears later at the start of Disc 2 with the same mission of capturing Garnet but finally gets killed)

Definetely Black Waltz no 3. It’s the hardest of the lot, and just like some magical Terminator, seems near unstoppable, even after crashing into South Gate and ending up on the cablecar’s railway tracks. It still keeps on coming with single-minded intent. Eventually it recalls only one directive. KILL.

Tiamat was cool, not to mention hard, and, like the rest of the Terra Guardians, were all reoccuring characters from the original FF, which I really liked, Black Waltz no 3 was the best.

Oh, and I made mistake in the opponent of Ozma. The guy that chases you through Fossil Roo is not Ralvuimago. The guy is called Armodullahan and isn’t really a boss. So we’re going to run the Ozma battle again. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Hillgigas (this is the guy you fight in the mountain path just before you get to Madain Sari. He’s this big rock guy.)

Once again, Ozma. Hilgias is just a big green time-waster more than anything else. He’s not even particualry hard! Boor-riiing.

Ralvurahua (The snake guy you fight while heading to Alexandria with Garnet, Marcus and Steiner. Piece of cake)

Ralvuimago (An evolved version of the afore mentioned. This guy curls up into a defensive mode after being attacked, and he doesn’t attack in that defensive state unless attacked while in it, which give you time to heal and charge up Vivi’s magic with Focus. Pretty easy actually. Found straight after leaving Alexandria after saving Garnet.)

Beatrix (The 3 times you fight her, she levels your party with some strong attacks. She seems invincible. Seconds later after the final one, you play as Beatrix, and she has a fraction of her HP and her so powerful attacks don’t seem so powerful. But still, good fights against her)

Valia Pira (Boss of Kuja’s Desert Palace. If you equip any of the bloodstones you obtained in the Desert Palace to any characters, he will raise one of his stats by a lot and the battle won’t be easy, that’s for sure.)

I don’t think that’s how it works. It’s the less bloodstones you find, the more powerful he is. If you find all of them, he’s like ultra-weak and sucky and that’s why I didn’t vote for him. But I’ve tried fighting this boss before without having found any of the bloodstones and he’s way more powerful. So it has to with the bloodstones you find, not whether or not you equip the items that come from the bloodstones. Actually, some of the items are quite helpful, like the one that lets Vivi cast Water because this boss is weak against Water.

Kraken (3rd boss of Memoria. You fight it just past the water part. Not too difficult actually, protect against water and you’ll be fine)

Amarant (You fight him once as Zidane in Madain Sari and then he goes away and joins later. You might want to have your Trance bar almost at the top or a lot of HP.)

Black Mage #1 (Boss of the Ice Cavern. You fight him with Zidane only and he’s got a pet monster with him. Still, if you levelled up, at any point whatsoever, it’s a cinch)

Nova Dragon (The boss straight after the sequence of awesome Skirmish of the Silver Dragons cut-scenes playing to the awesome song. Anywho, the boss can beat you into the ground if you take it lightly, but think of it this way. It will be an easy fight if you had 3 or more people in your party awake after fighting Kuja on Disk 3. That’s just something I know from experience)

Black Waltz #1 is a twit who is weaker than his minion. I mean, honestly, if you want anyone to take you seriously as a villain, you can’t be weaker than your own pet monster. "Oh, hear I am, I’m this big evil villain, but wait, let me summon this this monster that’s even stronger than me in case I can’t finish you." Sorry, doesn’t work like that.

The first reason is as what Agent said….And the other is because dragons are cool…Especially that this one is silver and has feathers:D…

Lich (The 4th Memoria boss. Acts kind of like the Earth Guardian regarding Earth Attacks and needing to float.)

Garland (Creator of Terra and Kuja and a lot of things. He’s the 2nd boss in the row of 3 bosses at the end of disk 3. He has some powerful dark attacks.)

Lich: Faceless entity who the party shrug off with little to no effort. Garland: A sublimely evil character who created the Genomes and begun to put the plan into action that would result in Gaia becoming unstable for Terra’s assimilation. And he had some really tricky attacks to deal with as well.

I’m voting for Garland. True, he may have been the "middle" boss of three, but he was fun to fight.

Silver Dragon (The first boss in the line of 3 at the end of Disk 3. This guy is a normal old Silver Dragon, which as seen in the game, can be taken out by airships easily.)

Plant Brain (Boss of the Evil Forest. You get to fight as Blank in this fight too. Not difficult if you level up a tad)

I lost a lot of respect for him after watching that.

The enemy that Steiner and Beatrix have to fight in Alexandria (and you also have to fight them when heading down the Iifa tree as Kuja sends them after you) is called Mistodon. And assuming that’s what was meant, I’ll vote for that because I actually lost to them once due to their ability to cause Sleep and I wasn’t prepared for it. Never really messed around much with the Nymph’s other than to learn Quina’s "Night" ability. Not really memorable.

Fang (One of the first monsters you fight…umm, I put it in because it’s called Fang and it’s attack is called Fang. Homourous, and it gets you a lot of experience to level up with (well, it’s a lot back then))

Stilva (This guy you may remember from FF7 cause he looks cool. He looks about the same actually. Found in Memoria. Not really special attacks, watch for Firaga. He’s learnt a few new tricks apparantly.)

Red Dragon (This guy is a HP drainer no matter how prepared you are. Aerial Slash takes a tonne of HP off. You have to verse one or two of these (more if you want items) but luckily you don’t encounter them randomly.)

Behemoth (Well, this guy’s renown for showing up on the last disc only and here we are again, in Memoria. Lots of HP, tough as always. But now he uses Meteor lol, that’s all that’s really changed, besides HP and looks)

Zuu (Also from previous FF games, but it’s always a big bird. The only change, well, it’s HP seems to be almost exactly the same as FF7, but now it can take a character out of comission by swallowing them)

Yan (This guy’s a hard thing…tonnes of HP, powerful attacks, and he’ll probably level your party with a few Comet attacks in a row. But the worst thing is that he so small and cute, that you get humiliated too)

Ochu (Another one that hasn’t changed much in appearance since the other games. He’s got less attacks but the annoying one is slow)

The cool thing is that it’s the last of the friendly monsters, whereas Ochu isn’t.

Malboro (You know it…it had to be Malboro, everyone’s favourite monster for kicking you into the dirt with Bad Breath and then slowly kicking it again and again while you can’t do anything. It’s in Pandemonium this time.)

Antlion (Well, it’s a boss, yes, but it’s also a monster than you find in the swirling whirlpools in the Kiera Desert if you miss Kuja’s Palace and choose the wrong one. Sandstorm is a bitch of attack, seriously. This guy’s not really hard, he just drains your items.)

Veteran (The yellow, one eyed winged thing that you find in various places, Ipsen’s Castle for example. Not difficult to kill, no real mentionable attacks either, unless you think Blaster is annoying)

Grand Dragon (You know, I’ve only ever killed one of these. These are pretty damn hard to kill. They hang around the entrance to Daguerrio (sp) and have tonnes of HP and Lvl5 Death and every other attack they use seems to decimate you but they still look cool.)

And you can still beat them early on.. Reflect works oh so nicely… as well as auto-reflect, as he will just cast Thundaga on himself… then all you have to do is use pheonix downs on your fallen comrades… don’t bothr healing, heal kill them in one hit at lower levels O_o

Zaghnol (The big red monster in Lindblum’s Hunter contest that, if you strike last, wins you the tournament. It’s fairly simple to defeat, uses mainly Thundara)

Epitaph (That Stone guy in Oeilvert that can make double of your party members and make them attack you. It’s annoying if it makes one of your strong characters because it mimics weapons, defense and everything. Other than that, the stone thing can use Break, which petrifies you)

Sand Golem (You know how long it took me to kill this guy? I was fighting forever before I knew you could move the cursor down and attack the core ;). He uses Sandstorm…moderately annoying if HP is low. He’s only found in Cleyra’s trunk.)

Armstrong (Found all around the forgotten continent, on all terrain, this guy with roughly 4000HP is quite a joke to fight at any time. His one threatening attack is Cannon…which halves a party member’s HP, but it’s no threat whatever amount of HP you have because he usually dead after one or two cannons.)
