Out of the WHOLE game (so not only the main characters, the whole lot of them), which character did you like the most, or hate the most if we’re talking in terms of villains, and (importantly) why do you see this character as your favourite?
For me, the best character in the game and the story as a whole is Kuja. The guy starts off as a cocky, arrogant guy who has the power to back it up. He then learns something that shakes him to his very core, and that slowly begins to gnaw away at his soul. He finally makes peace when he realises the folly of what he did. A truly moving part of the game, and a great end.
I’ve had reasons for liking various characters from the FF series. Zidane is my favorite character out of ALL of them… sure he’s not as badass as Sephiroth, he’s not as powerful as Cloud or Squall were. I wasn’t entirely sure what I liked about him, but when it comes down to it, I just like the fact that he’s a genuinely NICE guy. He’s someone who made an impact on everyone he befriended in the game. I was talking to a friend once about the theme of FF9, and I realized that Zidane embodied the spirit of FF9 perfectly. He’s cheerful, lighthearted. He has his serious moments. He teaches his friends how to believe in who they are. He’s someone who I really had fun "getting to know."
"You taught us that life doesn’t last forever. That’s why we have to help each other and live life to the fullest."
That’s what Zidane’s character is all about. So when it comes down to it, that’s what I liked about him the most.
That and I love his tail! 😛
Vivi was one of the best developed chaarcters in the game IMO, they really worked on him well. No matter how hard it became, or how much he had to deal with, he always wanted to carry on to find out more about himself. I also liked how he and Zidane always helped each other along and supported each other, it worked well.
As for Steiner, he too was pretty well developed. He starts off to be very overprotective yet very funny (I thought one of the funniest things in the game was when he swang down on the rope in Alexandria castle right near the start ;)), but later on he changed and started to accept Zidane, and I liked that development. He was probably the best character to have overall in battle too, he’s very strong, and with the Tin Armour he’s virtually untouchable.
"I am certain that you will be most pleased," to Brahne. Waii~ can you not hear the mocking tune, can’t you imagine his sweet yet vicious smile?? He could as well have said: "I’m sure you’ll like it," but he doesn’t say such normal stuff until later when he is indeed… so different, so much simpler… so… 🙁
I also like Garland. I didn’t him during the game, but later I began to understand him, and pitied him… I think he was only very lonely, and wished to have a companion. But someho 2/3 of his more special kids tried to kill him. 🙁
erm…i meant, she’s really cool and powerful and…yeah…
Who else thinks she and Steiner make the weirdest couple ever? But they are soooo cute together anyways! lol
I’m going to give this one to Zidane. I cannot remember once, a protagonist showing such compassion towards the final boss who plans to kill just about everything and yourself included and even tried to save him. That is perhaps one of the strongest showings of humanity thats been in FF since perhaps an instance in FF7.
He had something… strange… (his clothes? 😀 )
no really— even if we made fun of him the first time, we loved him later! ^-^
Er… and the Blank-guy… because… well— the stone? 😉 I dunno… perhaps everything! And vivi!!!
But nevertheless, Kuja is the best!!
😎 "Lady Auron"
I thought she was good in battle and her hyperactivity wasn’t as annoying as say Seffy’s in FFVIII and she had a good story attached to her, with her connections with Garnet and Madain Sari.
Also, I love Beatrix, it’s a shame she didn’t have a bigger role, I like the strong women characters in a series mostly dominated by strong male leads, Cloud, Zidane, Squall, Locke, etcetera.
kuja was sweet because (1) bishis are rarely so goddamn badass and (2) he had cool music. the chunck of badass that is beatrix should also be mentioned here.
stiener bugged me. a lot.
go shortman!
Other than that, his hair looks cool!
Although I also think that Dagger is good because she changes so much throughout the game because at the start she is a royal princess then she turns into a completely different person.
So either way these two rule!
all-time favorite scene too is trudging through some major enemies after being taught a lesson by Garland..realizing that you’ve been created to destroy a world you love..sad (would’ve loved it if he took matters into his own hands and ripped Garland to shreds but Garland doesn’t deserve that).
And Zidane’s confidence in teaching others like Vivi and Eiko and Garnet, and thinking so lowly of Steiner makes it seem like a part of Zidane knows everything, even why he was created, and is waiting for the right opportunity to unleash his devastating power…just seems like that sometimes…
kujas theme is the best song in the game.plus his aditude could not be anymore self centered.
Just to let you know tokenbg, that we don’t really allow the attaching of images into threads. That’s why I edited it out. 🙂 But I agree with ya that Kuja into trance mode does kick some serious butt.
Can’t attach pictures? Well I mean… Not any or can’t attach with no reason?
Always love a character that can make you smile. :eye:
Zidane, first off I must give my hat off to Square for making such a unique lead character, never before have I seen a monkey related lead character. Zidane ofcourse, had very lenghty talking in the game, wich I liked since he was main antagonist. I also that his speech fits him in particular.
I liked his Trances too. I liked the whole monkey thing when he went into Trance. I must say the art of Zidane is perfect, his tail and etc. make him mysterious in wierd sort of way, and his wardrobe fits the theme of the game, wich is old school FF but with advanced machinery.
His weapons wre perfect choices (Thief Swords). I also liked that he had a soft side and over confident. He brought out the good out of the party (even Amarant), and he fit together with the backstories. Last but not least, he get’s the girl in the end.
Freya on the other was mysterious to begin with. Beatiful and cool looking to. I am glad Square made her the Dragoon. Though she had terrible times through the game, like her lost love forgetting her. her weapon choice was great, and her Trance is second to none.
I also liked her art. Though she was a animal, for some reason she still physically attactive(funny ins’t it). I couldn’t help but notice, that she begun’ to fall for Amarant, later in the game. Though she begun to drift from the story around the end, she is still a memorable character from FFIX.
Anyways I really like his attitude, the way he is always trying to keep his friends happy, and help them with their problems. But then he also has the attitude of not caring what others think about him, being carefree. And the attitude of a rebel.
I like how he is always trying to get with Garnet, and how he would do anything for her. I think thats really sweet.
I like his story. Its really sad once you learn more about him. But I like how he is a thief and just living life day to day.
He does grow alot in the game once he meets Garnet. I really think she helps him grow and become more serious about life. But at the same time,he was helping her grow more and become not so naive, and to kinda let go and not be so serious.
Vivi is cool too.
Yeah, I know, commonly seen topic, but this forum isn’t seeing much life at the moment.

my fav is garnet and beatrix, i like garnet because she acts more human and she goes through alot for a princess. Beatrix… i have to agree w/ faerielady, so same reason.
Vivi ^_^
u saied the same 4 ultimica thing
I like Garnet and Zidane! They make a nice couple! They’re my favorite characters!
my fav couples r cloudxtifa and squallxrinoa ;D
I like Garnet and Zidane! They make a nice couple! …
^ ^ Not for long 😉 ^ ^
Good (in order)
Princess Garnet Til Alexanderos 17th, my favorite in all FF (after Auron) and in FF9 (definatley) just because there’s some one who’s all nieve but handles the whole being out in the world thing really well. She tries hard and although she develops mutism (name of the condition that means you can’t talk (the purely phycological one)) she comes out the other side still a caring, loving indervidual. She takes a lot like after the Iifa tree incident she’s lost both her mother and her birth mother in just a few hours so… it sucks being her. She wants only what’s best for her people and would be a great leader. And she’s a bit nice 😉
Zidane Tribal, as others have said he touches others ;). Sorry. But seriously when he touches others his mark stays. Out of all of the characters in FF9 there’s not one that he doesn’t affect. From Kuja and Armerant to Garnet and Vivi.
Vivi Orunitia, cos he’s so cute and despite his age he kicks ass esp. with ultima.
Black mages, because they are a kick ass soldier and when they come to life they’re nice people too.
Kuja, because you don’t know if you’d think like that if you were in his position. Everything Zidane has to go through with knowing about his creation but without Zidane’s friend.
Zidane’s people (forget what they’re called), tbh they’ve got tails that’s all!
Beatrix because she’s dutyfull yet turns, she doesn’t mean to be mean, she’s under orders after all.
Bad (in order)
Quina Quen = sucks
Rat people (Cleran + Burmencians), grrr, I don’t like them. Don’t like rats. And when Zidane is looking for the potions for Cid that bit puts me off. And the dance, it takes AAAAAAGGGGGEEEEEESSSSSSS!!!
Freya Crescent, "in Norse mythology, Freya is a goddess of love and fertility, and the most beautiful and propitious of the goddesses. She is the patron goddess of crops and birth, the symbol of sensuality and was called upon in matters of love. She loves music, spring and flowers, and is particularly fond of the elves (fairies). Freya is one of the foremost goddesses of the Vanir (the nice gods). She is the daughter of the god Njord, and the sister of Freyr. Later she married the mysterious god Od (probably another form of Odin), who disappeared. When she mourned for her lost husband, her tears changed into gold" not a rat. And she’s a rat!
Zorn + Thorn then annoy me. And they attack Garnet, grrr.
Armerant Coral tbh he just can’t do the arogant thing (that’s Auron’s job) he’s just a tosser!
All of the monsters + bosses, they attack Garnet (well most of them)
Necron, wtf is he anyway. It ruins the game and everyone who doesn’t like FF9 can use it against us AUGGHHHH! 🙁
Regent Cid XVII (excuse me if it’s not 17th) he’s a skirt chaser and he’s an adulterer. Does you think she was the first? Hmm? Won’t happen again me arse.
Ya, its all about Garnt Til Alexandros!
Work it girl friend
Out of Tantalus. my favorite character would have to be Marcus. He took Zidane’s place once Zidane left the troupe. I also liked him because he was really strong.
I would have liked Beatrix to be a playable character, because without any doubts, she KICKS ASS!
And I truly liked the love story within that game,so Dagger’s in as well.
