Sphere Grid.

Again, another unique function of the game is the ability to move about the sphere grid and customise your character. While it is complicated to understand at first (you do what in order to get where?), It is also a good addition to the game and the challenge to try and get as much skills to your characters as possible.

I did have trouble when I couldn’t find Ultima though. I really wanted that spell and I got lost trying to find it. It’s like a maze trying to find it.

For those with International or the Euro version, did you choose Standard or Advanced Grid mode? Just curious, as I’m about to start playing a second time and wanna know the difference.

I liked the SG. It gave more control over what each character will come out as. Like in FFIX, Vivi is a mage and can’t do alot of damage through physical attacks. But in FFX, you can take LuLu who’s useless in physical attacks but awesome in magic and you can make her stronger yourself. True, it is hard to understand but once you understand it, you find out how useful it is…

Too boring. It had its advantages, but you end up going in after just about every battle and messing around with it and who wants to do that?

Actually, I used to battle, gather about nine or ten AP thingos, then go in and customise the party… I dunno why, but it seemed more rewarding to do more to your character at once than to just watch them crawl across the screen.

Although I didn’t really level up that much. Most of my characters were still fairly crap in terms of their skills when I got to the last boss… I’ll have to make a proper go at it to get everything sorted out the next play through.

Lol I remember when I got in the final battle and my main fighting party all had 35 or more unused Sphere Grid levels o.O

I tend to level up at one spot, get alot of levels and then spend them. It’s easier to word out your character this way.

I still need to play with the advanced Sphere Grid, but I like it. It’s a good way to customize your characters.

I used the expert one first time, and I checked the standard one since then and didn’t really like the look of it that much at all… :erm: I was probably just used to the expert one, so I’m gonna use that one again if I ever play through again.

Early on I used to use sphere levels as soon as a got them, but later on I realised it was much more fun saving them up at aobut 10-30 at a time and then using them all at once. Particularly when it came to stat-maxing, I did sometimes actually let 99 of them build up before using them.

Anyway, I really did like the sphere grid system, I thought it was a nice new idea to try out.

At first I’d go on the sphere grid every time I got a new sphere level to make sure I was getting better and better all the time to make the battles easier, but after a while, I let them build up toabout 20 and then use them cus i didn’t need to keep improving as I pissed on everyone anyway. At the moment tidus has 82, I’m building them all up for when I can get some hp spheres and clear spheres and max out.

Through the tonberry/don toneberry glitch I maxed my characters… it helps when u’re gaining a lot of levels at a time.

I only maxed Tidus, Yuna, and Auron though…. I was just too bored to do it w/ the other characters (it takes SO long to work ur way around that damn sphere grid…)

Its fun once they’re maxed though… I can kill bosses with mug 🙂

I’ve always wondered that there is a difference in the amount of sphere nodes between the normal and expert grid

does someone know ?

<font color=red face="comic sans ms">I think the standard grid has more empty nodes than the expert grid. It doesn’t make much difference early on, but later if you concentrate on stat-maxing and get every stat to 255 before concentrating on HP, you’ll end up with about 10000 or so less HP. That’s not a problem though, because you can get your HP above 50000 on both grids, and then simply use a Stamina Tonic in battle to take it up to 99999.

I also heard that the expert grid has more +3 and +4 nodes in it originally than the standard grid does, although I wouldn’t know that considering I’ve never tried using the standard one. Expert grid’s better if you want more freedom though, and I’m more than happy using it.

It took me a while to get the hang of it but i’m catching on fast enough. Once you know how to use it effectively the game becomes a breaze. I’m still only 7 or 8 hours into it.

I’ve only played through the game once and I used the standard grid. It was a bit odd looking at it the first few times and I’m sure I must have gone cross eyed now and then too, but after a while it was pretty self explanatory. Early on though, I did make a massive blunder and sent the massive tiger guy (I forget his name) following Wakka, when I should have sent him off following Auron. Because Auron was insanely tough.

I thought it was a clever touch. Like a board game. Maybe they should have added some snakes and ladders to it.
