You haven’t played some of the older games, have you? Cid actually goes way far back. He first started in FF2
FF2 – I actually don’t know because I never could get into this one because of its battle system.
FF3 – He wasn’t majorly big, but he did help you out with airships some.
FF4 – Cid is awesome in this one! He’s this sort of fat dude who’s an engineer and is kinda crazy too and yells out stuff like "Who do you think you’re talking to? I’m Cid, the Master Engineer of the airships!"
FF5 – Airships again, but this Cid is more of a grandfatherly type and he also has a grandkid that he looks after. He’s a cool, nice guy though.
FF6 – Cid is working for the enemy in this one, but he soon decides not to follow their ways and eventually ends up helping nurse one of the characters back to health. SPOILER He might die, if you can’t save him.
Kingdom Hearts – Cid from FF7 shows up among the cast of FF characters as an expert on "Gummi Ships" and helps by making critical modifications to your ship and selling stuff related to it.

Biggs and Wedge aren’t in FF9. I think they’re somewhere in Luca in FF10, although I could never find them.
Oh, and although I’m responding, I’m guessing this thread probably belongs in General Final Fantasy and not here.
So, moving there…
Edit: Whee, I did it! 🙂
I didn’t know we had this smiley. THIS IS THE BEST SMILEY EVER!
Yeah, anyways. I thought it was just Square’s lack of creativity.
It’s only three names… It’s only the names they re-use, not the characters themselves. FFVII’s Cid is different from FFIX’s Cid and so on.
It’s a nice little gag for the people who pay attention, it’s a dear tradition, and certainly hs nothing to do with lack of creativity.
You ask where the conspiracy is? Without us noticing we are taught to like Cid: He’s always been a nice guy, he’s always been our friends, not just one Cid, but all Cids.
And one day someone called Cid will appear, and we will trust him, we will eelct him to be our president, our king, whatever, and we won’t see his true face until it is too late…
… for sure… :erm:

In FFII, Cid appears, rather fittingly, as the owner of the world’s sole airship (excepting Paramekia’s Warship of course!), who’ll often offer to fly you around the world, sometimes for Gil, and sometimes for free (he actually gives it to you at towards the end of the game of course..). I could say more of course, but it would spoil a great game.
and incidently, the only true character to appear in multiple FF games is Gilgamesh in FFV and VIII, but that’s another story…
Untrue, Cloud is a playable character in FFTactics, and Aeris makes an appearance in the game as well…
They are one and the same if you hadn’t already noticed by name, appearance, abilities, and job class, and even the story-line in both games ties them together as the same person, as well as Cloud mentioning Sephiroth in FFT (it is broken up and mispelled however… It goes something like "….Se…..ir…..oth" when you first meet him)…
As for Cid, I’ve got a couple more to mention. TGC or Thunder God Cid is in the original Tactics, and the judgemaster in FFTA is named Cid. Also, in all but the tactics games good ol’ Cid has had something to do with Airships so there.
