For me, I am an RPG addict through and through since I got a Playstation. The majority of my gaming collection are RPGs, and the scary majority of those are Final Fantasy based. Chuck in my driving game collection of Gran Turismo, Gran Turismo 2 and Gran Turismo 3, and you’ll see that I like racing games too.
I used to be hooked to those LucasArts Point and Click adventure games, after I got Day of the Tentacle for my Birthday when I was wee small and Bill Gates only had about 2 billion in the bank.
But, nowadays, I’ll often play a FPS (Half Life, um… and more Half Life :p ) or Horror (Silent Hill 2, Resident Evil CV, Eternal Darkness) game for the fun of it.
Anyways, I’m a big fan of many genres. I like Action, Platform, Extreme Sports, Racing, and RPG’s and even some fighting games as well…
I like Action and Extreme Sports games the most (such as MGS2, GTA3, SSX Tricky, Tony Hawk). Platform is pretty cool, especially with Jak & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank as well as their sequels coming out soon. My only RPG series I own is the Final Fantasy ones (VII-X). Some fighters are cool and I have Tekken Tag and Tekken 4. Racing is also fun with NFS and Kinetica but I don’t really like GT3…
Action isn’t my thing.
yup o_O I just like the game or I dun like it; don’t care much about genre.
Yup I am a RPG addicted, in my house you’ll find tons of RPGs for my PC/PS2/GC, all different kinds of. Turn based like FF or realtime like Morrowind or the style of AD&D and D&D 3rd gen. Plot driven RPGs and open RPGs everything just goes. The more RPGs the better.
As for the rest, I don’t play them that much. Except perhaps a bit of some platformers (MegaMan, Sonic) but that’s it.
Like Survival Horror (RE series), Platformers (Jak & Daxter), Action Adventure (uhh…Two Towers I suppose), Shoot-em-ups (Time Crisis, Vampire Night~), Beat-em-ups (Tekken series, Capcom vs SNK2).
Can’t think of any others :erm:
But yeah RPG’s the most.
Tekken and Capcom/SNK games aren’t beat-em-ups. They’re fighting games. Beat-em-ups are games like Final Fight or Streets of Rage or more recently . . . ummm . . . the Bouncer. I miss beat-em-ups. ๐
*Raises hands* Oh, yeah, so do I.
Hey, Marquis, have you heard of Double Dragon for the GBA ? A remake of the NES classic…ah, the good memories…:)
Since I have a Cube and GB Player, who knows, I might try it…
Or , better yet, how about the soon to come multi-platorm Ninja Turtles game ? Those rocked too, you know ๐
In fact… The C64 had another version of Turtles that I played as well… The only thing I remember is that you had four lives (each of the Turtles, y’see) and the last boss had a gun that made your character revert to a non-mutant turtle…
And I remember Streets of Rage too. When I borrowed someone’s Megadrive for a week, Streets of Rage was included. I think I even finished it. Classic game. Classic days.
And Kung Fu on the NES!!! Scrolling beat em up with punch, kick and fight. Punch… Kick… Fight…
Er… I think I’m drifting slightly off topic here…
Yes, I enjoy fighting / beat em ups too. Hey, if there’s punch, kick and fight, I class it as a beat em up. (Not too great at this whole definition thingo.)
RPG’s are also good, though at times can take a lot of patience..or can jus take a lot of time. I love ’em for the most part though.
Shooters aren’t bad, but I’m not huge on them (except Counter-Strike..^____^)
Fighting games are awesome, though I can never get good enough at them…=\
Racing games aren’t that great, in my opinion. There’s exceptions though (Mario Kart, F-Zero, etc.)
Wrestling/sports/anything else: Doesn’t interest me.
So in short, I like Platformers and RPGs most.
However, it is my belief that RPGs and some adventure games are the most prestegious. RPGs more so than adventure games (currently.)
RPGs are usually highly story based, very focused on new systems and styles of battling, many have extra options are beating and great replay value, are often long, and the technical aspects (sounds, graphics, and execution) are usually top notch from my experience. They have ambitions and have raised the bar in the gaming industry.
Then there are adventure games, rare gems. They are a particularly hard genre to master in my opinion. If they lack action, they are particularly considered "slow paced" and many people may quickly overlook all the huge qualities and not think twice about the mistake they just made. Adventure games USUALLY have a slightly superior story and make you explore, something some games fail to do. I love the ability to explore interesting environments.
I think games like Xenosaga, Final Fantasy VII, Vagrant Story, Chrono Cross, Parasite Eve, Soul Calibur, Silent Hill, and (from all the reviews of this game which I desire so greatly to play) Eternal Darkness raise the bar for what games should be like.
RPG (Secret of mana, FF, Kingdom hearts, Phantasy star, summoner, BG)
Survival horror (Resi, PE, Clock tower, Devil may cry 1)
Platform (J&D1, J&D2, Banjo Kazooie)
Is there anything else?
RPGs are good to play when I have a lot of time in my hands… which is a lot.
Platformers are another thing to play when I have a lot of time. It’s very fun to jump around and stuff. ^_^
Fighting games… I was born with Street Fighter, I’ll be playing it for life. ๐ฎ
FPS, I just love em. I can’t stand slow WWII games though… except Wolfenstein.
It’s kinda hard for me to think about my favourite game genre at the moment, but I need to keep my head in order and clean my thoughts out, or something like that.
Main favourite genre, is RPGs. Suikoden, Vandal Hearts, Shadow Hearts, Skies of Arcadia, the FF series, etc, etc.
Second fav, whatever type of genre Dynasty Warrior games fall into.
Third fav, Strategy type games.
That’s it.
END.
:haha:
I love RPG’s, the only genre that seems to show good plots, unforgettable characters, and lots of FMV’s ^_^…
Anyway, I am also an FPS fan, anything FPS is fun, Doom, Halo, Turok series, I love em!
That pretty much sums it up, except for Fighting, I play a few of those, such as Ehrgeiz, DOA series, a few wrestling games, etc…
