PS2:The PS2 is the most popular obviously, although not as powerful as the xbox, the PS2 has a large selection of games. Some of the most famous names came from the PSone. Its no doubt sony took gaming to another level, but is that for the best?Making it too mainstream makes companys dish out games like pop idol.Dont get me wrong,it is a good system, its just that too many buy it because "its sony".I will comment on all systems soon, but for now i want to hear you.Which is the best,The mainsrteam ps2?the behemoth xbox?or the underdog gamecube?
PS2 wins obviously. It is mainstream for a reason.
Dont get me wrong, some of these are not the worse(ffx-2,ZOE2)but its the same thing as before.I can bet right now,in the long run the Xbox will take the lead in the console war.Only an idiot cant see its poetential. Please, xbox lovers out there!!let your voices be heard!!
Sure there are a bunch of bad games on the PS2… but it comes out with the most good games too. There’s like three good games for the other systems and thats pretty much it.
Gamecube: WindWaker, Metroid Prime… well only 2 games here.
X-box: Halo, KOTOR… i’m sure theres another one….
Anyways… PS2 is mainstream because it has more better games… period.

This topic is stupid and 4 years old by the way.
Just like Nintendo own the handheld market. I don’t mean that the PSP will flop but I don’t think it will beat the GBA SP.
But I want to share my thoughts on the three consoles.
Let’s see each of the console’s strong points, and we shall start with GameCube :
As far as saying that GameCube doesn’t have enough good games I tend to disagree : pretty much any game that gets released on multi platform will most likely be better on GC and Box than PS2. You can thank the superior specs for that.
It has some good exclusives, too : Viewtiful Joe, Mario Kart Double Dash, Wind Waker, Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime. The main problem with GameCube is that since the N64, Nintendo lacks enough third-party support. That’s slowing becoming better, as even Square Enix is coming back to Nintendo, like with Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. There’s also the upcoming Tales of Symphonia and Baten Kaitos from Namco that should keep RPGamers on their toes. Plus, by adding the GameBoy Player you allow yourself a library of games that rivals the PS2’s since you can also play GBA, GB Color and GB games. The wireless WaveBird controller just plain rocks. I’m quite disappointed with the lack of online play though. I mean, why putting ONLY LAN on some games ? Mario Kart would be so much fun online. Add the current GC price ( come on, you can buy a Cube AND a GBA SP for the same price as ONE PS2 or Box ) and you just can’t go wrong with the Cube.
The PS2 also has some pretty strong points :
It has retrocompatibility, which allows you to play PSOne games on it. The PSOne is the most successful console of all times. Combine with the one year lead in time for releases and you get the largest library of games available. That’s a big plus. I’m not even talking about the oh-so-many exclusives on PS2. Perhaps the one thing that makes the difference in the end. The Online Play is also decent, as some games allow the unluckiest of people to play even with narrowband and especially the fact EA signed an exclusive deal with Sony, which EA games for Cube and Box won’t give you. It can also double as a DVD and CD player. And the Dual Shock 2 is an improvement of the Dual Shock which was considered the greatest controller of all time when it got released. It his the oldest and the weakest of the three, but because it gets the right strong spots it sells more than the two others combined.
As for X-Box :
You have to give credit to Microsoft. They made an EXCELLENT and POWERFUL machine (although one would say it’s not hard considering it’s merely a "modified PC" and I would tend to agree), barring the bad controller. Any game (except some exceptions like Sonic Heroes) that gets released on all three machines will look and sound better on Box, no contest there. Like the PS2, it can double as a DVD and CD Player. However, it has by far the best online gaming system. XBox Live is well organized, allows you to see who’s online among your buddies and so on. There’s also the integrated HDD that allows you, among other things, to rip CDs and put customized soundtracks in your game. An interesting feature that can’t be seen so far on other consoles. It’s good a few good exclusives as well, like Knights of the Old Republic (considered by many to be 2003’s biggest game), Halo and Dead or Alive 3 (Tecmo’s an exclusive for Box).
All in all, all three consoles have points that can appeal to us gamers, which makes them all good and we should be thankful for having such good choices. But in the end, we choose the console that has the games we like the most. PS2 has the most games, so it’s only normal it sells more. It is what makes the difference in the end. If you like a particular type of game that’s more present on one specific console then you’ll prefer that one. For instance, I am almost nothing but a RPGamer with a good interest in fighting games. That makes my order of choice to be PS2, Cube and Box and explains why I own only PS2 and Cube.
That doesn’t mean Sony will remain on top forever though. Make one major mistake and someone else will take over. Ten years ago, no one predicted Nintendo would lose the edge. Then they went on insisting on using cartridges instead of CDs for the N64, reducing load times but quadrupling production costs and reducing the storage capacity for games. That turned many third-party companies over to Sony and since then Sony owns the console market. Luckily for Nintendo, they survived thanks to the handheld market and the Pokemons.
Quoting Maechen : "And that, as they say…is that."
Sony have the best titles because people buy it,just because its sony.
You are SO wrong.
Sony became the leader because it used CDs for games back in the PSOne days. Nintendo insisted to use cartridges and lost support from most third-party companies. So Sony had the most games. And because the PS2 got released earlier and features retrocompatibiliy it has the most games.People don’t buy just because it’s Sony, they buy because they get the broadest range of choice. They don’t give a rat’s ass about what the company is.
Sony have the best titles because people buy it,just because its sony.In the future, who here would want FF7-2 on the xbox??can you imagine the possiblities.
Do you even read what other people post? You insist on typing the same thing repeatedly instead of reading and responding to what other people are saying.
I guess what I am trying to say is…. SHUT THE HELL UP AND RUN WITH SISSORS!

I agree with Loki’s message barring the level of language he used. 😉
PS.Loki,You have intellect of a spoon and you get points across with anger, calm down,we are all friends here, sort of……..
It’s like comparing apples and oranges.
You can still compare apples and oranges, there both fruit right? It’d be better to say something like "It’s like comparing apples and monster trucks"
