I don’t think there is a single person here who would argue when i say that nearly all movies based off of video games are terrible, but that does not seem to stop producers. There’s money in making video game movies, whether they are good or not.
Within the next year or two expect the theater to be flooded with movies based off of video games. Some of them look promising, but some are terrible even before they are made.
Here is the list I have of movies that are said to be in the works.
Alone in the Dark– Starring Christian Slater and Tara Reid. Opens Oct. 2004
House of the Dead 2: Dead Aim
BloodRayne — Begins shooting in April
Dungeon Seige
Fear Effect
Road Kill
Baldur’s Gate
Virtua Fighter
Crazy Taxi
Shinobi
Dead or Alive
Resident Evil: Apocalypse
Driver
Max Payne
Clock Tower
American McGee’s Alice
Spy Hunter — Starring Dwayne Johnson (The Rock). Has 100 million dollar budget. Said to be similar to a James Bond movie
Psi-Ops
Dead to Rights — Starring Nicolas Cage, Produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura for Warner Bros.
Doom — Warner Bros producing. Is going to be a PG-13 movie.
Wolfenstein
American McGee’s Oz — Opted by Jerry Bruckheimer, who plans on turning the retelling of Wizard of Oz into a trilogy of 100 million dollar movies.
Deus Ex– Script being developed by Spider-Man producer Laura Ziskin
Silent Hill – Opted by Davis Films. Samuel Hadida (Resident Evil: Apocalypse) Will produce, Chrisophe Gans (Brotherhood of the Wolf) will direct.
Onimusha — Also Davis Films, working with Gaga Productions on with a 50 million dollar budget.
What does everybody think about these movie ideas. What movies would you like to see made?
Even if these turn out to be crap I don’t care, I’m just looking forward to Troy and Van Helsing
I think they are chewed out far more than the what is really warranted by both critics and the gaming community for whatever ficticious reasons.
A lot of those look decent, especially Silent Hill (though I actually think David Lynch would be the best director for it. He has a flare for that kind of creativity.)
Dead to Rights, Omnishua, Deus Ex (why would the guy who made such a shallow movie attempt something more involving like Deus Ex?), and Baldur’s Gate are especially worth noting.
A DIRECT Final Fantasy movie would rock. If not, my dream was also to direct and write something called "The Final Fantasy 7 project."
I would like to see Metal Gear Solid and Xenosaga/Xenogears be made as they are both fairly cinematic. I’d also love to see Chrono Cross be made.
Mario Brothers, Street Fighter, House of the Dead. *shudders*
Silent Hill and Onimusha could both be very good movies if produced right. But I’m sure neither capcom or konami will take the risk and let someone make the movies.
They are both set to be made Jamie, it’s going to happen.
As for Metal Gear Solid, they are working on a picture deal for it, but nothing has been confirmed and nobody has bought the rights as of yet.
Baldur’s Gate seems like it could be a decent movie, but I think the one on my list that I would most like to see is Fear Effect. If you have ever played this game you would know why.
Silent Hill also sounds great.
Deus Ex probably is my favorite FPS RPG and the story would be awesome for a movie.
I was offered to sit through Resident Evil, but I really didn’t want to. And Tomb Raider was awful… Only the appearance of Chris Barrie as Lara Croft’s butler bought a smile to my face.
Meh.
The last resident evil movie sucked… i wont wan to watch the next one :notgood:
Silent Hill that’d be very awesome as well as a film, but something tells me this is going to be shit (thanks to the foresight Resident Evil gave us.)
American McGee’s Alice could be funny in a sadistic sense. (I think Tim Burton would have to direct this)
Virtua Fighter wouldn’t be too bad as like an anim film, but real-life it isn’t going to work *flash backs of Mortal Kombat films*
And may I ask who in there right fucking mind thought ‘A Baldur’s Gate film would be a great idea’…because who ever it was needs to be shot multiple times.
I’m not a fan of movies-to-games games as well. Except for Return of the King on PC lol I mean, considering it cost me back only 20 dollars canadian I really don’t have to complain because even if it’s short it was good enough to be worth the price. And that has made me want to go get The Two Towers on Cube for 30 dollars canadian. Yeah, I know it’s ironic that the older game would cost me more but on consoles ROTK is 70 canadian and there is no TTT on PC.
haha.
Which videogames movies do you want made, and who would you want to star, direct, and all that in it?
Personally, I wish David Lynch (Mulholland Drive) would direct Silent Hill instead of the one on board now, who did Le Pacte de Loupes, even though it was a solid movie. Lynch just has a lot better creative flare for things that are non-sensical and creppy.
I’d love to see Devil May Cry directed by Quentin Terninto. It is perfect for him. A movie not with much substance, tons of blood and some style to it.
Final Fantasy VII – Peter Jackson, Spielberg, and me. 🙂 I’d probably bring Johnny Depp to play Vincenet or some other guy with long hair (Tseng or Sephiroth) and then George Clooney with died hair and not shaving in a while to play Cid. That or Farrel would fit this role…he is a natural badass and doesn’t care what anyone thinks of it.
If I’m making film suggestions here…..
I think Bubble Bobble would make the best movie ever.
American McGee’s Alice could be funny in a sadistic sense. (I think Tim Burton would have to direct this)
when i first heard about a movie possibility for that (its been a few years), i thought the same thing. i really couldnt see anyone else attempting to make it, if they ever do.

Thats my emperical evidence. 🙂
word has it that devil may dry is also in the works and metroid!!!!
i reallly hope they dont ruin metroid (thats if they make it tho)
On a side note, what movie from a game do you hope beyond hope is never made?
Tomb Raider
…. oh….. shit.
Tomb Raider
…. oh….. shit.
come on. they were good. and even if you didn’t like them for some odd reason, angelina jolie was hot. u have to admit that at least.
