Anyone heard of the Princess Maker games?

I just found Princess Maker 2 on a Zip disc of mine, and having played it, I admit this is a quirky little title. Basically, you have to raise a child entrusted to you by the child’s guardian diety, and help choose her path in life. Choosing what she studies at school, where to send her to work and such, makes this a… as I said before, a quirky little title.

I’m just curious, who else here has played one of the Princess Maker games, and what they thought of it.

I know I played a little bit of Princess Maker 2… but beyond that, that’s all I’ve ever experienced about the series. 🙁

Wow. If this series was on the SNES at all, then I think I read about it in a Nintendo Power long ago, read it wasn’t planned to release in the US, and was dissapointed.

If it is the same game, I’ve been trying to remember what it was called for years.

I looked for an SNES version of Princess Maker and I ran into "Princess Maker: Legend of Another World."

I wonder if there’s a more recent one on PSX.

I could have sworn that this was some sort of hentai game. 😯

I should know about PM2, as I was the one who burnt that CDR with PM2 on it for you XD! 😉

Anyway, the original Princess Maker was a Super Famicom title (the Japanese version of the SNES), while the second one was available on both the Sega Saturn and the PC (in fact, the PC version is the version XD is refering to.)

Strangely enough, the PC version was planned to be released in the US, and was translated into English accordingly, only for the project to disintergrate at the eleventh hour. However, someone must have leaked the the translated version onto the net, as it can be found online on many abandonware sites.

There is also a third one on the PSX if my memory serves me correctly, but I’m not sure…

Little anime tidbit; Studio GAINAX of Evangelion and FLCL fame were responsible for the character designs and artwork in the game, and is perhaps worth playing for curiosity value for that reason.

It’s not a hentai game, but it can be a bit creepy. One of the many endings is for the girl to fall in love with you (her father), and you can force her to work at really seedy places like strip bar and so on. Furthermore, in the summer she wears this pretty revealing outfit, and if you want to buy her nice new clothing, you basically have to starve her or else she won’t fit into them.

I enjoy the game, but it doesn’t work very well with my Windows XP. When I was running Windows ME, it ran just fine, but now it’s slow and there isn’t any sound. :-\

Yeah, it’s an old DOS game, and as a result has a compataibility problem with newer systems – even on my antique Compaq 200mhz with 64megs of RAM running under Windows 98SE it runs with no sound, due to the software not recognising my sound-card. I think I did get it to run with sound once by screwing around with it’s installation, but then the sound was glitchy at best and the game itself ran very slowly.

Oh well,… At least it runs well without sound, so that’s the main thing I guess…

My daughter became a dancer. But she didn’t have the constitution for it, so she wasn’t very successful.

Some other random things:

the sfc princess maker is not princess maker part one. It’s a unique game in the series.

And I’m pretty sure Gainax was responsible for the entire game series, and not just picked up to do the artwork for it.

That’s funny, I’m running it on VIsta and I haven’t had any trouble with it.
BTW: This game is awesome!

lol yeah i remember.. there is also a cheat where you can get infinite money, choose the ending, get the daughter naked…. (dont ask)… gte a lot of thos super rare items
