What is the most frustrating game you have ever played?
For me, I’m gonna have to say….The old Tomb Raider games. The controls are so bad.I always run into walls and get hurt.Plus, Laura’s chest looks really bad because of the horrible graphics.
Legend of Kartia had an interesting idea for a battle system, but the way it was implemented and the structure of the game wasn’t that grand.
There was a puzzle name called "Snare" on the Commodore 64 that was actually pretty good, but it got so darn difficult towards the end that I got frustrated with it.
There are countless other puzzlers that have ended up annoying me at some point too.
The newest installment is actually the most frustrating I’ve played. The controls are sloppy, unpredictable, unresponsive. On top of that, the game actually freezes on you frequnetly along with some of the other flaws of the previous. And the way how everyone talked about all this effort going into it, it was a huge dissapointment.
but the game that use to piss me off the most, would have to be the first shining force game on the genesis, because it always seamed that some of the monsters could move as fast and as many spaces as they wanted it, and they would always dance around my characters some times and head right for my hero, kill him, and send my ass back to the last town :S

lone wolf
Although it had a beatiful character design and the world of this game looked so wonderful it didnt save the game.
It had such a horrible battle system! I really started to feel angry as I never ever felt before! The characters were nice in the beginning, but then suddenly they wouldnt stop talking about with whom theyd sleep and whatsoever! I really didnt know them anymore! What was the matter with them?!
Back to the battle system:
The hero (forgot his name…) fought well for I played him!
The girl… oh GOSH! dont remind me of that girl. Always jelling Yamete or whatever she shrieked when being attacked by some nasty montsers. When she felt like it she started to throw HAMMERS!
HAMMERS!
And wasted all her MPs so she couldnt heal the party anymore. -> a very soon death.
That other male character—Karth? was that his name? What ever. He was strong for he could summon Sylphes and stuff. BUT HE DIDNT WANT TO! He prefered attacking the enemies with the edge of his book. Cool, eh?
Then there was that useless little brat on a broom flying around.
Oh yeah~ as if she could fight…
The fights were really terrible and I didnt want to play it anymore. The game that was very interesting at the start turned out to be very annoying.
"Lady Auron"
It’s still a great feeling to fly a veritech, though 🙁
I almost battered my ps1 with a hammer 🙁
Next time I tried that mission, though, I kicked ass. And it was the only mission I failed.
Anyway, for me the most annoying game is Legion: Legend of Excalibur. Mainly because of that one stupid level where you have to fight the Green Knight and he runs away and some bad level design +lack of map makes it impossible to navigate around.
I’ve been frustrated countless time, but the only game that made me do anything serious was Mortal Kombat 4 for the N64. I got so frustrated I hurled the controller (standing up) onto the floor (which happened to be concrete…no carpet o.O;)
It’s pretty needless to say the controller broke..I was nine at the time, however. I don’t think I’d do anything that reckless again (atleast not to my sweet sweet videogames and their accessories).
Anyhow, even though I really love the DOA series, the boss in DOA 3 is so frickin’ cheap, he’s actually made me throw my controller- a rare occurance.
Bad fighters are at the top of my annoyances- I have some crappy X-Men fighter that we got for really, really cheap that’s not only caused controllers to be hurled at something or other by every member of this household- it’s also caused things to be broken.
To get this weapon, you have to play Zhu Rong’s stage the Nanman Campaign, on the Nanman side, in HARD mode. Normally, this stage is challenging, but not impossible. In Hard mode however, not only does it up the enemy morale, it also increases the enemy AI, meaning they march into battle swinging their swords and spears around like Chinese berserkers.
Now that wouldn’t be quite so bad, if the ‘gates’ didn’t continously spurn more soldiers out than you can destroy. Oh, and did I also mention just how psyched up the Officers are? I can’t even begin to count just how many times that blasted Ma Chao and about a thousand grunts surrounded Zhu Rong and her little troop of female bodyguards and procceeded to smash the living daylights out of them.
Unfortunately, the battle is made harder by the fact that to get the Magma Wheel, you have to keep two of the Nanman officers (Ahui Nan and Dong Tu Ne) alive for fifteen minutes. Dong Tu Ne is fine, as he’s in an area where the enemy doesn’t seem to penetrate, however Ahui Nan seems to have some kind of death wish and after I finally wiped out Ma Chao and a no-name general in the same area, he proceded straight to where Zhao Yun and several other generic generals were making life miserable for our merry little band of natives.
So naturally, I then had to gallop as fast as Red Hare would go in order to stop it being a case of ‘lights out’ for Ahui Nan. After coming close to death on multiple occasions, the clock finally clicked over to fifteen minutes, and Ahui Nan and Dong Tu Ne decided to call it a day and ran away with their tails between their legs. And finally the item chest with Magma Wheel nestled inside appeared, which I wasted no time in getting.
However, I still had to survive the mission, which fate would ultimately decide otherwise. And frustratingly, it was from a crappy Shu Private armed with a spear who managed to take the self-proclaimed ‘Goddess of Fire’ out! When I saw the words ‘Zhu Rong Defeated’ appear on the screen, I just about smashed my head through the TV in frustration! And with only eight minutes left! Two long hours wasted!
Ultimately, I had a shower and came back to the game refreshed a little while after, then repeated the game, and finally, after four long hours, and after enduring all that frustration, I finally succeeded! You can imagine the relief and euphoria I felt after finally completing the battle!
Now the hard part is getting her ultimate Level 5 XL weapon! (Fighting Lu Bu on Very Hard mode… that’s the stuff nightmares are made of…)
