There are many great opening themes out there. In general I enjoy themes which relate to the plot as well as how the music fits the video. One of the best examples of this is definitely "Stray" from Wolf’s Rain.

The tune of "Stray" is quite catchy, and it’s performed well. The backing instruments help the singer and are balanced well. The song has meaningful lyrics which actually relate a lot to the plot, and it supports the visuals.

All in all, "Stray" from Wolf’s Rain does what a proper theme should do, and this is the reason why I think it’s among the best anime opening themes I’ve heard. 🙂

my favourites would have to be a cruel angels thesis for neon genesis evangelion, the trigun theme (i forget what it is), rise for ghost in the shell stnad alone complex 2nd gig and probably my latest favourite would be the one for the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya 😉

There was a lot of music I loved in Ouran High School Host Club (the ending theme, Shissou, for one), but I didn’t like Sakura Kiss. A bit too repetitive, didn’t like the singing.

Death Note’s first season opening is an easy choice. I find it hard to not like Attack On Titan’s theme as well! Unravel from Tokyo Ghoul is all kinds of kick ass too.

It was the first anime series I cared about, and the opening theme was a big part of that.
