ramuh to ixion?

i didnt know which forum to post this in so i just chose this one. the question is:

why did the god of thunder change from ramuh to ixion? does anybody have any ideas why?

I’ll move this to the main FFX section – this is the second time today I’ve seen a thread started without much thought as to where to place it.

As for an answer – maybe because Ramuh was like some old guy and wouldn’t really work for FFX? Also remember that Ramuh wasn’t in FFVIII either – that one had Quezacotl.

I think they switched it to Ixion so they could have an eaiser aeon to control. An unicorn would be a bit easier than some random old guy. I still feel that Quezecolt would have been the best!

personally i thought that if they made ramuh somewhat like an older version of yojimbo with like lightning coming out of his eyes or something that would have been much better than a wierd skeleton unicorn. note that the mangus sisters are just three random people that are supposed to be like the fates, why cant the aeon of thunder be like a zeus type person?

as for quezacotl, i guess thats another question. thanks, i didnt think of him

I dont really think Quazacotl would be good at all. Quetzalcoatl (properly spelled), is an Aztec god, of thunder indeed so that’s the good part. The bad part is that the Aztecian gods were quite violent and the likes. Think among the lines; playing basketball with the heads of their defeated opponents.

if i remember correctly, Quetzalcoatl was the Aztec god of the wind. im not going to get into his legend because i could go on forever about it. however, it didnt really make sense to put him in as the guardian force of thunder. Quetzalcoatl was not supposed to be brutal, though. i have read everworld, which is where you are probably getting this from, and their version of him is completely wrong. in short, he created the cycle of life and death, and created the fifth generation humans by sprinkling blood over some bones. Everworld completely got this god wrong, so dont go thinking like that. he was even supposed to have abolished the human sacrifices for a short time, but the people didnt like this, and forced him to accept their lives.

anyways, back to the topic at hand. dont you guys agree some guy with lightning coming out of his eyes and all lightning up like an old man version of shiva, or an older version of yojimbo might have been better than some random unicorn skeleton that can magically make lightning? most of the aeons that are from earlier games are humanlike in some aspect in ffx, like iffrit or shiva. why not keep ramuh, just make him meaner? as i said, there would have been nothing wrong with a zeus-like figure.

Actaully I’m not to fond of the choice for Shiva’s name. The name itself is nice but also an Aztecian god.

Well the first point im going to make is that ramuh is the god of lightning,
the second point im going to make is that ixion isnt a god its a unicorn with lightning powers for some reason.
But tbh i dont really know, check it up somewhere.

I dug this up:

Though little information survives about him, Ixion is a fundamental character in Greek mythology. The most complete account of Ixion’s tale comes from Pindar in his Pythian Odes. Ixion was the son the Phlegyas, descendent of Ares, and king of the Lapiths in Thessaly. He is significant in many respects, but is chiefly known as the first human to shed kindred blood. This occurred when Ixion invited his father-in-law, Deioneus, to come and collect the price that Ixion owed him for his bride. Upon his arrival, Deioneus fell into a pit filled with burning coals Ixion had camouflaged.

Because this was a crime new to the human race, nobody could purify Ixion and he wandered an exile. Zeus took pity on him and decided not only to purify Ixion, but to invite him to Olympus as a guest. Once in Olympus though, Ixion became so enamored of Hera, and he desired to sleep with her. Zeus did not believe that Ixion would be so disrespectful as to have designs upon the wife of his host. To see if the rumors were true, Zeus made an image of Hera out of a cloud, and impregnated it. The cloud bore Ixion the monster Centaurus, who was unloved by the Graces and had no honor among men or the gods. Centaurus then mated with the mares of Mt. Pelion in Magnesia, and so from Ixion the race of centaurs was born.

To punish him, Zeus bound Ixion to a winged (sometimes flaming) wheel, which revolved in the air in all directions. Also, by order of the gods, Ixion was forced to call out continuously call out: "You should show gratitude to your benefactor." Ixion became one of the more famous sinners on display on Tartarus, and most writers mention him when describing the place. For example, Ovid wrote of him, and Vergil, with his moralistic interpretation of how sin should be punished, awards Ixion a special mention in the Aenead.

The focus of Ixion’s mythology on the guest/host relationship shows the venerable age of Ixion’s story. Of all the attributes Zeus became associated with, he was originally particularly worried that the custom of Xenia, the formal institution of friendship that ensured traveling archaic Greeks could count on each other for safety in antiquity, be enforced (for more on this in all the Greek world see Powell 150; the importance of the guest/host relationship is fundamental to all world mythology, take the Biblical story of Sodom and Gommorah, for example).

Aeschylus remembered Ixion’s role as the purified progenitor of blood guilt in the Euminides. Athena, before she will hear Orestes’ case refers to him as Ixion, an allusion Orestes balks at and tries to convince her is false (Euminides. 450-455).

Pirithous, king of the Lapiths, good friend of Theseus, and important in later myth, is considered to be one of Ixion’s children. There is another claimant to Pirithous’ paternity though. Zeus, in the Iliad 14. 317-318, claims to have seduced Dia, Ixion’s wife, and fathered Pirithous.

i dont remember his name being ixion, but that is an interesting point. still, why ixion over ramuh? and shiva i dont think should have been since the beginning, but at least shes been a constant in the final fantasy series. ixion and quetzalcoatl are just random additions to the god of lightning, whereas ramuh has been pretty constant.

Yeh its kinda confusing isint it, Ramuh is an actual thunder god while Ixion was a King who invoked the wrath of the gods and if i remember correctly quetzalcoatl was the Aztec god of the sun (i think), i agree that Ramuh could cream the lot of them if he was a bit revamped and given a graphic makeover.

Well, in Final Fantasy XI, you have Ramuh back.

I guess they just wanted to mess with something new… I dunno, I guess everyone has to question SE for reasons no one really cares about. 🙁

I personally liked Ramuh better then both Quetzalcoatl and Ixion.

I was disapointed when they didn’t put him in FFX.

Wrath of the gods is reffered as thunder storms in Greek mythology. So when ever Zeus was pissed off, it was thundering/lightning storm. That’s why Ixion is associated with thunder/lightning.

Perhaps they just wanted to try something new? See how itd work out?

Personally, I don’t care what the name of the thunder creature is. At least it shows creativity from Square to do their research for new creatures. 🙂

i agree with bahamut zero, because if the same creatures are use all the time it would get a bit boring.

if they were to change all of them it would be ok, but i loved ramuh. why they had to change just him is beyond me. shiva and iffrit have been constants, as well as bahamut. ramuh has been changed twice now, but i still think if they had to change anybody it should be shiva.

Well they changed Odin also and gave us Yojimbo instead. And Odin’s pretty popular, at least except for FFVIII. In VIII, a lot of people really hate him for always coming and killing monsters when they wanna steal and stuff.

Yea, but odin wasnt really one of the big three elements…fire water and lightning. i can understand them changing him…i guess. i thought he was really cool, but yea. I hope in FFXII they keep ramuh and switch out shiva if they need to switch someone out.
