The edges of the square brushes look clumsy and the uneven use of detail and colour in the background makes it all look rather distracting and busy. The right side is very heavy on dark colours and more details but the left is white and less detailed. It kind of sucks the image of the angel into it, making it difficult to make her out. Perhaps you don’t want all the attention on her, but more on the work that you did for the image but it does rather spoil it and I think that she should be the focus.
To the top right of her head, where you’ve used the darker brown and softer blending of colours looks really good (although I don’t like the white the rest of it is nice). I think that would make a better background all over because it would be a co-ordinated backdrop and the angel would stand out because of the lightness of her skin/wings/swords rather than disappearing into the background. The twisty bits with the dots in don’t look too hot because they make the background too over-detailed, the really dark brown swirly bit looks good but don’t overuse these kind of things.
I’m not sure what you mean exactly by ‘grunge’ technique but that’s my opinion on the things that struck me as I looked at it.
