The Final Fantasy VIII Rumble

I’m here to give you lot The Final Fantasy VIII Rumble version 2.

Yes, it has been done before by Agent0042, I believe, And here it is ( Thread 8360)

As with most of the other Rumbles, I’m starting with the basics. By this I mean, you know:

– Playable Characters
– Non Playable Characters
– Themes
– Limit Breaks
– GF’s

etc.

Then we’ll venture on to the more in depth stuff. And most of the stuff above I will get you guys to nominate.

The Rules: Short and sweet, basically I put forward a battle containing two participants, and you vote for the one you want to win at the end. I’ll update the rumble usually every four days, but sometimes it might be more and sometimes less. We will usually start off with 8 or 16 participants, but we may have 32 at some points. These are the only available numbers because they are the only ones that split up into even numbers till we get 1 winner.

I’m not going to start with characters, because there is an awkward number of them, which we will sort out soon.

So im gonna place my vote and Say the Landing it just has a certain something about it which I prefer to man with a machine gun.

So Timber Owls is on there twice? How about adding in Julia then? Personally, I’m not that much a fan of it, but it was quite popular when I did my "Eyes On Me" variation thread a while back.

I havent much time so I can’t do this till tomorrow, but if any regulars are on I’d appreciate it if they could round up and re-cap the Locations.

Right well there’s no point in trying to remeber right now, so I’ll just start again. Also, we agreed on Chocobo Sanctuary.

Battle 1

27. Timber (This is where you meet Rinoa, and the rest of the "Forest Owls", Timber one of my favourite ‘musics’ of the game, and it’s a great mission).

30. White SeeD Ship (The SeeDs in white reside here, still under the "matrons" command. They’re curious of you to start with, but they’re soon nice and friendly. You can win some decent cards from Zone and Watts here too).

I agree plus I really liked Timber, I liked its …randomness.

what happens on the white seed ship? you hear a story from some captain and win some cards?

So a huge amount of votes, around 70% of them went right to Timber, understandably, really.

16. Space Station — Here, you’re launched right into space for a very eventful mission which spreads from trying to Stop Rinoa and being thrown several metres back, to "de-propagating" the wonderful Ragnarok.

20. Cactuar Island — The tiny island towards the south is entirely habitated by the small green Cactuars, for each you defeat, you earn 20AP. You can gain the GF Cactuar by defeating it’s rather large cousin, the Jumbo Cactuar.

Well, I’ll say Space Station because it was a great part of the story and I’ve always been fascinated with astronomy…

Wow, this was an exceedingly close battle, with supporters for both sides, however Cactuar Island gets the upper hand this time.

13. Tomb of the Unknown King – This is a large maze, which i generally pretty hard to navigate around unless you have both the map and the position marker from the guard in Timber. The scenery is quite beautiful, and you can obtain GF Brothers here.

15. Ultimecia’s Castle – Full of boss battles, and puzzles, this is quite a tricky part of the game. Well, it is the last area. It’s still lots of fun, and holds more sentiment, because you fight the last battle here, against Ultimecia.

Loads and loads more votes for Ultimecia’s Castle, naturally. Unlucky for the Tomb of the Unknown king to be up against such an opponent to be honest!

4. Centra Ruins – These are the small ruins within which you are able to gain the GF’s Odin and Tonberry. Odin is fairy simple to attain, and is very useful indeed, if he comes at the right time! 20 Tonberries must be defeated to gain it as a GF, however, which some people might find annoying. In any case, it still looks wonderful.

12. Fire Cavern – The first main mission in Final Fantasy VIII takes you here. A small cavern filled with lava and fire. At the end you gain GF Ifrit. You also "pass" the field exam. There’s lot’s of fire magic to be drawn here, too which comes in useful for junctioning and obviously, it’s use!

OK, again, really impressed with the amount of votes! But Centra Ruins had twice as much support as the Fire Cavern!

6. Edea’s House – This is where ‘Matron’ Edea lives. Not much to do here, however it was the old orphanage for Squall and the gang, and it also has the flower field area which was where Squall and Rinoa made their promises. (I remember this being up last time)

3. Chocobo Sanctuary – You need to have visited and conquered all of the chocobo forests throughout the world to reach this place. Confined in forest, it can be hard to find, but once you get there it is beautiful. You also witness the rare Chocobo dance, and the Chicobo card.

A fairly close battle there folks, but Edea’s House, the home to a highly disputed Plot twist gets the upper hand!

21. Deling City – A wonderful city with a funky musical score. Here you undergo a well planned mission in order to capture the Sorceress, and at last resort, fight her yourself. However as with most things, this doesn’t quite go to plan. This place closes Disk 1, and is a super mission!

26. Balamb Town – This is the first town you will visit. It has a nice melodic theme, some gorgeous backgrounds, and is home to Zell and his "Mother". In Disk 2 you also obtain Pandemona here by drawing it in the grand battle against Fujin and Raijin.

Man, what a battle guys! Both had huge support!

22. The Ragnarok – This is the only airship in the game. You get it in disk 3, and it allows you to access any part of the world map. It also has a wonderful theme!

25. D-District Prison – You’re imprisoned here for a while at the beginning of Disk 2. You must trawl through a multitude of tasks over a generally breathtaking mission in order to escape.

8. Dollet – This is the small town you visit in which you undergo your first team SeeD mission. You must secure the communications tower, but unfortunately have to fight the annoying Biggs and Wedge, and the formidable Elvoret. You obtain Siren in this mission, and it has a wonderful initial FMV.

11. Esthar – This place is the main place to be in the majority of Disk 3. It is a huge futuristic town full of several areas, shopping, presidential, etc. All travlled to by either walking or lifts through tubes. Lots of things go on here, so all that can be said is that it’s interesting!

14. Shumi Village – This is the fairly small village comprised of the Shumi Tribe, and their "pre" forms: Moomba’s. There is one major quest to do in here, which involves finding tablets in order to attain the highly useful Phoenix Pinion. Otherwise there isn’t much else to do.

19. Island Closest To Hell – This isn’t a town/village, it is an island on the world map to the slight South East. It is the home to monsters such as Ruby Dragons, Blue Dragons, Grendels and Marlboro’s, it is brilliant for levelling up, even if the monsters can be very tricky. There are also dozens of draw points containing very potent magic.

Shumi Village, no music, nice for a change.

Oh, and it didn’t have the annoying stone sidequest, seriously i had better things to do than build a statue of Laguna. Question: When you have Laguna on the Ragnarok and you wander to Shumi Village, why doesn’t Laguna visit the Shumi?

Another easy battle it seems, this time at the mercy of Shumi Village!

28. Trabia Canyon – This place is mainly only visited in the laguna dream, in which you have to draw against a Ruby Dragon, and then fight it.. It’s quite a humorous Laguna Dream, but once it is over, there’s not all that much point of going back.

31. Great Salt Lake -You reach this vast icy area with wonderful landscapes just before you reach Esthar. You need to fight Abadon, and then climb an ‘invisible’ ladder to the sky. Although after this, there is again, not much point in returning.

Trabia Canyon – 11

A wonderfully close battle sees Trabia Garden take the win!

23. Trabia Garden – This is Selphies initial garden. Unfortunately, you never get to explore it in it’s original state, as it is destroyed by Missles at the hands of Edea, however you visit it later on in the game, and can win some good cards, and will also notice a Tonberry King reference!

24. Galbadia Missile Base – In Disk 2, you need to somehow try to stop the missiles being launched. However this soon turns into a sabotage mission, in which you alter the missiles path, and set the base’s self destruct. It’s a pretty neat mission.

it definitely would have been a good idea to be able to go to Trabia Garden before it was blown up, though.

A fairly tight battle, but The Missile base gets the win – if only we could have visited Trabia Garden in its constructed glory!

1. Balamb Garden – The Garden you will likely most visit! You spend much of Disk One, and Two here. You can win a variety of cards from different people, visit the areas within, and receive items, and also undergo several exciting missions, from eliminating monsters from each section, to travelling B1 and below to find a way to move it.

5. Deep Sea Research Facility – A small facility out to sea, at which you will inevitably level up lots, and gain two exceedingly useful GF’s: here you obtain the most powerful GF in the game, Eden, capable of dealing way into the 30,000’s. You also receive the legendary Bahamut, by defeating him.

Not as close as I’d thought, but the DS Research Facility still gave Balamb Garden a fair run for its money!

We’re again drawing to a near close of this round!

9. Winhill – A place you solely visit through Laguna. It’s quite a beautful village, with a fair couple of tasks to take on, although you might not choose to visit it that much.

18. Island Closest To Heaven – Similar to the ICTHell. You may encounter monsters such as Chimeras and Marlboros this time round. Very good for levelling, but I find, not quite as good as the ICTHell.

Heaven wasn’t as good as Island Closest to Hell. It did have some good draw points, but its small size and greater difficulty to locate its potential.

Next Battle

4. Centra Ruins – Tonberrys, and Forbiddens, I believe, mainly take up these strange ruins. Fight 20 Tonberries to reach the king, and get the GF. Some wonderful non attack abilities here. You also get Odin, the random GF, but also the most useful. (Some would argue).

12. Fire Cavern – The first REAL task you have. Only quite small, but you get your first earned GF, Ifrit. He’s great for strength, and basic abilities. Other than sentiment, really, there’s nothing else to do here.

Sorceress Memorial – You meet with Rinoa here, after her capture! A pretty wonderful FMV ensues, which involves a lovely little hug. Other than that, not much else, but that might be enough!

Fishermans Horizon – It’s Disk 2. The garden bumps into the opening of a strange town in the middle of the sea — inhabited by a fair few, and run by a friendly pacifist mayor. You can get some decent cards from Martine, and a fair few bits go on here; Boss battles, the train track THROUGH to Esthar etc.

Love the fmv, so romantic and so on. Its the games official logo in action. Plus Squall does some handyman work with the gunblade.

7. Galbadia Garden – The third Garden, which iirc, you visit in Disk 1, but only do you visit it properly in Disk 2. You obtain Cerberus here, a GF which I personally found quite useful. Very catchy theme, although some might find it annoying. It also stages an Edea battle.

17. Lunatic Pandora – Particularly known as the monster ridden area in which you fight Seifer. IN which battle you see a rather surprising turn of events involving the faithful Odin.

Pandora was inventive, though there are some parts of it that I’m not too fond of, either.

although it became music that I hated cuz the first time I played through it, I kept dreading fighting Cerebrus (or h/e you spell that) … >_> he kept owning me. 😛

2. Tears Point – Not one thing to do here, really, other than to get the Solomon Ring, which gains you GF Doomtrain, so long as you have the other items. While it being fairly useful for training, there is nothing else to do. Wonderful rendered background though.

32. Lunar Gate – The building full of space-scientists and machines. You’re launched off to space here, and are frozen here, beforehand. This place starts off a spectacle, but isn’t really interesting in itself!

Ultimecia’s Castle had a great atmosphere to it, but I didn’t like how she sealed nearly all commands. Fisherman’s Horizon lived up to it’s name…a nice, relaxing place for…old people, lol. I did like the grandfather and son down at the pier though.

Right, I think we have a collection of "regulars" now, so I think this new voting system could work well, even if we only implement it in one topic.

Here is how it works in steps (assuming we use NPC’s):

1. All 16/32 of the NPC’s will be open for voting in each round, and they will be posted every time I update.
2. Each voter has a certain amount of "points" to use, to vote for OR against an NPC
3. You can use these points however way you want; if you want to vote FOR something, just say [NPC] +[x] and if you want to vote AGAINST something, say [NPC]-[x]

For Example:

– In the FIRST round, voters have 4 points to spend, and I may choose:

Fujin +2
Cid -2

OR I could say:

Fujin +1
Cid -1
Raijin +2
Zone -1

So basically the points are available for whatever way you want.

And at the end of each round:

– I take give the voted for/against NPC’s their points/reductions and the lowest are eliminated.
– NOTE: It may take two rounds for me to distinguish between the ones who are definitely losing.

ANY QUESTIONS: PM me, or if they’re just quick ones, just ask in here. It really is a lot simpler than I assume it looks!

– Secondly yeah, this is a difficult part. What I’ll do is, we’ll have 3 or so rounds without eliminations (incidentally, I’ll make these rounds last less time) so we can get the ball rolling. After that, I’ll start kicking off the lowest x amount of NPC’s. It may end up being quite a large amount, but that’ll just increase the competition!
