Images from the new FINAL FANTASY XI expansion, "Treasures of Aht Urhgan," have finally been released to the public at the Tokyo Game Show (September 16-18)!
The official Final Fantasy XI Web site has been updated with word about a new expansion pack for Square Enix’s massively multiplayer online role-playing game. According to a news posting on the page, images of Final Fantasy XI: Treasures of Aht Urhgan have been released to the public at the Tokyo Game Show. The site also promises to have a "sneak peek" of the new content soon.
Treasures of Aht Urhgan will be the third expansion for the game following Rise of the Zilart and Chains of Promathia. It’s unclear at the moment which platforms Treasures of Aht Urhgan is expected to be on and when, but considering that cross-platform versions of Final Fantasy XI are compatible with the same servers, a simultaneous release is likely. Such was the case with the game’s most recent expansion, Chains of Promathia.
As for the upcoming Xbox 360 version, it seems likely to ship with the most current content at the time of its release, as was the case with the PlayStation 2 version of the game, which included the first Final Fantasy XI PC expansion, Rise of the Zilart. GameSpot will have more on Treasures of Aht Urhgan as details become available.
Another expansion pack? I’m not sure if my old hardrive will be able to handle any more stuff ๐

The new expansion takes place in a land called Mindartia, in the Near East. It is the homeland of the Mithra before they travelled and settled in Kazham.
Also, Something alot of players will be excited about, including me..
So many rumours floating around about the expansion pack. I’m not exactly thrilled about the prospect of new jobs meself, as I feel the game’s been out for far too long already to suddenly just change it so drastically with such a thing. Blue Mage seems pretty much confirmed at this point, due to those very images you linked to (I can’t seem to find a link to the actual video footage right now) from Tokyo Game Show.
It actually might not be so bad if 3 or 4 new jobs get introduced simultaneously, because you know 95% of the general population will immediately drop their old jobs for something shiny and new, and it’d be terrible seeing hundreds of BLU (I assume that’d be the abbreviation) running around in each zone. If they include Geomancer, perhaps Typo would jump on that particular bandwagon. .-.
But I guess I’ll just wait and see…
as it is… some of the pirates in norg use necromancy, if only it was a job now, id hangup my warrior in a heartbeat (65 levels down the drain ; ; )

Mindartia? Mindartia is the eastern continent (Quon being the main continent) which is pretty much already covered as far as new locations are concerned. The Federation of Windurst, Mhaura, the Crag of Mea, Dorgoroga’s Spine, and many other important places are situtated on this rocky, barren land.
Plus, from what I understand of FFXI’s history, the Mithra didn’t originate on Mindartia. They apprently had their origin in a totally different location before they imigrated to Elshimo Island (where they founded the town of Kazham). Much later some younger Mithra rebelled against Kazham’s chiefteness, and left Elshimo in search of new lands to settle.
They eventually landed on Mindartia, and allied themselves with the Taru to form the Federation of Windurst on Mindartia’s southern most tip. That’s old news which most FFXI players would already know. (Most of that information was taken directly from Square Enix’s own FFXI website)
Still, from the general gist of that quote, it seems the new expansion will be delving deeper into the history of the Mithra, as well as opening new locations on Mindartia. Which is good, as new places to explore on my character’s home continent (my character’s nation is Windurst) would be quite interesting. Mind you, the previous expansion (Chains of Promathia) also unlocked new locations on Mindartia too (Attowha Chasm and Bibiki Bay/Manaclipper), so I guess this expansion will follow on from what Cop started.
But I guess we’ll find out in time.. ๐
Though, this could just cover those areas… way too early to tell to be honest. Though I find it really…. REALLY funny that someone mentioned it took place in Mindartia…
bastok was alright, that whole shadowlord thing was pretty neat
windurst…. didnt much like windurst…. cept to stare at mithras and watch their tails ๐
As for the location of the new areas covered in it, all the info seems to be referring to it as taking place in the ‘Near East’, which indeed appears to mean Mindartia (the latest screenshots of the new areas and the Blue Magi also generally have a Persian/Arabic feeling to them).
As one shot features an airship in it, I guess it will be reached by a new airship route from Jeuno though (like Kazham is), which means it could be anywhere in Vana’diel, putting us back, to use a pun, at square one.
Anyway, can’t wait for this expansion, as it will be interesting to see what new features it will have!
