MarioKart DS: FFShrine Grand Prix

At the behest of Smokey, and a 9.5 review from IGN, I purchased MarioKart DS yesterday – and i’m glad I did! I haven’t played a MarioKart since Super MarioKart on the SNES, (I prefered Crash Team Racing to MarioKart 64), but MKDS is the definitive Kart racer.

Plus, it includes internet wifi multiplayer!

So, I’m organising an FFShrine tourney. I haven’t got wifi myself yet, so i’m not sure what other info i’ll need – but for now, post this:

Emblem: Done up in MS paint pixel by pixel, same as in the customizer. Preferably include your nation’s olympic colours (for instance, Australia is green and gold, so i’ve got my symbol on a green and gold background).

Once we get enough people on board (and I get my wifi adapter), we can race!

Do you need ot buy a special WiFi conector? If so, where can you find it?

I’ll be getting it sometime in mid december so that I can pick up FF4 Advanced at the same time.

my guess would be you just need a wifi access point. though I could be wrong !

If your Router doesn’t support wireless connection or it isn’t supported (www.nintendowifi.com has a support list), you will need to buy a separate Wi-Fi Connector. I believe you can only get it from Nintendo’s Online Store.

I see. I got the game, and the guy at Game Stop told me that If I went to a place like Borders, they would have an internet
hot-spot. So I might join, or I might not.

I guess by ‘keys’ you mean the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connector? If so, I believe it has a range of about 35 feet or so. It’s mainly for you to be able to go online only from your house. If you go the route of a router or wireless router, the range shouldn’t really be a problem at all.

I would do this if Gympie actually had it! I’m going to noose in a couple weeks so i’ll get it then, i suppose 🙁

It’ll be about early January before I will be able to do any of this. The WiFi USB is something i’ll have to buy after i get some christmas moneys, and after i get it, i’ll be pretty shit at the game so i’ll probably just play it by myself for a couple days. After that, watch out lee.

if you dont have a wireless internet in your home i think the revo will act as a router not sure how this’ll work though. or somethin like that im gonna look for the article again to verify this

Probably about a week – it will be up to the two opponents who get seeded to race each other during the week, and post the results.

If it ends up being insanely popular, this might be cut down to 3 or 4 days. We’ll see how it goes.

How is this going to work with timezones and that?

Well, basically i’m going to pair off people randomly, and it will be up to them to have a series of races, on carefully selected tracks, during the next week.

Basically, it’s up to the competitors involved to contact each other via PM and arrange a time, they’ll play the tracks set for that week, and post their results / laptimes here.

The three tracks for this week are:

BOWSER’S CASTLE
MARIO CIRCUIT

The rules are simple – contact your seed and arrange a time to race sometime before this time next week. (Check what post time this is, and add seven days – it’s approx 12:45 AM AEST 18/12/2005 here).

Have a single race on each of the three tracks, and post your results, including lap-times so we can have record holders. Please note that BOTH seeders must post the results, just so there’s no cheaty-cheating involved. If there’s any major discrepincy in the reported lap-times (ie, one person suddenly shaves off 10 seconds), the round will be re-done with different tracks.

So… start your engines!

I suggest you have SNES MARIO CIRCUIT 1 as the fourth track. Its short and easy and if you’re coming second you can take the lead fairly easily. Pretty fair track.

After a race, it does not show you your times. You can get the total time from the bottom screen but it disappears just after you finish the race. We could possibly do something else about the time thing, but i don’t know what =/

at the second last big jump i can almost hit the neoncommercial strip thats hanging above with "Mariokart" in red letters
you have to jump on the last speeding strip but its soooo hit or miss as most of the times i go to fast and fly into the wall (wich i even did on my record) or dont even manage to make the extra jump at all and just get a regular jump -_-;

I use Dry Bones with Dry Bomber still. I really prefer the High Handling – Low Drift thing it has, makes it much easier to control and get around. Wario’s Brute is higher in drift than handling iirc and I just wouldn’t be able to control it. On most turns I am only millimetres from hitting the wall and even still I am at least a second behind your record. Dry Bomber’s max speed is just too low I suppose.

As far as I know, Smokey, Django, Colonel Panstorm (eliminated) are the only active racers other than myself.

So, I’ll put Ketzu and Ad@m_C in a reserve or sth, and they can race whenever they’re active again!
