I reckon Fullmetal Alchemist has the best music especially the opening and end songs ^^ Naturo has some pretty good original compisitions too 🙂
Also there’s a song in Suzuka that is awesome but I dunno what its called.
Other Good anime that has good music i think includes Get Backers, espcially the ending song "de javu" and I’ll add more to my list later ^^

Incorrect. You are supposed to ask sensible questions and provide sensible opinions. Asking what anime has the "best" music and responding when you haven’t paid attention to the music on more than a handful of shows (and thus have no idea of what is truly best) is not sensible. Then again, sensible has never seemed to be Alvinz’s forte.

But if you’re really dying for an on-topic reply, then I’ll say that some of the best I’ve heard was from Kare Kano. Its score had an excellent range of styles that adapted very nicely to the constantly changing tones of the story. Also, the insert songs were fairly good, and while not exactly first-rate, they were still upbeat and enjoyable, which suited the show well.

I liked dbz and kenshin music.

ER… prak ur confusing ^^ when i asked the best anime music there is no definite answer because people appreicate different kinds of music so if someone things one song is the greatest song they’ve eva heard the person beside them might think that that song is one of the worst songs they’ve eva heard.

Jungle wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu’s OPs and EDs (1st Season and Deluxe, that is. Fuck Final) also kick major ass. As well as being fricking hilarious.

Bleach has had some good music.

IY, while the openings tend to be good with the exception of Angelus (reggae, ftw?), Wada-san’s music tends to be incredibly repetitive. Half the songs on the OSTs have little difference between them.

As some people said before Yoko Kanno makes great scores (Escaflowne, Cowboy Bebop), Joe Hisaishi also (Kaze no tani no Naushika, Mononoke hime, Tenkuu no shiro Rapyuta).
But at the moment I’m mostly listening to music from Leiji Matsumoto animes (Captain Harlock, Yamato, Galaxy Express) and it’s apsolutly awsome. These are true oldies but goldies.

Yoko Kanno is a goddess among composers for all of her work, in particular Cowboy Bebop and Escaflowne. I absolutely love the title theme for Jungle wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu as well (so wonderfully bizarre). I must also admit to my love for the Revolutionary Girl Utena soundtrack, from which stems my love for J.A. Seazer, as I’m probably one of seven people on this planet who both know of his work and like it.

Initial D: Japanese version. American version’s soundtrack sucks.

I personally really like the music in Hellsing. The opening music from GitS: 2nd Gig (Rise) is good as well.

I seem to remember Rahxephon, Cowboy Bebop and His and Her Circumstances having decent soundtracks.

In my opinion I think ARIA has the best soundtrack. Choro Club is just awesome. =)

I’m such a loser, but I like the music for Yuugiou. The BGM can be good at times (note: I speak of the japanese version here) and the openings and endings are actually quite good, especially Warriors and Overlap.

Digimon also has some great opeing themes. Target, The Biggest Dreamer, and FIRE = AWSM. 8D

For BGM, I’d have to go with Tsubasa Chronicles, Cowboy Bebop, Wolf’s Rain, Noir, and the .Hacks. Yuki Kajiura and Yoko Kanno, anyone? 8D

And of course the Ghibli music. <3 Luff.

My all-time fav anime OST still is the one for Shingetsutan Tsukihime. The musics are just so beautiful and add to the overall mood of the show so well. And it’s one of the only animes I’ve seen that doesn’t have a opening theme that can fall under the category of J-pop or J-rock (omigawsh end of the world! =o *faint*)

I prefer X Clamp, Naruto (Wind is great), Record of Lodos War…

Gankutsuou has some fantastic music. It just fits the anime so well, it’s some of the best use of classical music i’ve ever heard. Both the OST and the Classical Compilation CDs make me want to melt into a puddle of goo. It just sounds amazing. <3

Sadly, I don’t see Taku Iwasaki being mentioned. He is an established composer who produces great soundtracks for a wide range of anime genres.
A few of his notable accomplishments:

1) Read or Die OST (OPs/EDs and inserts are amazingly good)
2) Witch Hunter Robin (Listen to Robin, Kyrie…)
3) Rurouni Kenshin (LOL…almost every song is decent with some exceptional ones)
4) Rurouni Kenshin (1st OVA: Tsuiokuhen – A Boy Meets The Man is a soulful masterpiece, praised by almost all fans)
5) Rurouni Kenshin (2nd OVA: Seisou Hen – Living Sin and regret makes you feel like shedding tears)

Other animes like Gundam SEED/Destiny, Record of the Lodoss War, The Vision of Escaflowne and Ayashi No Ceres don’t lag far behind.

I agree with you, Zala, that Iwasaki is a great composer, but don’t forget Kenji Kawaii.
Witch Hunter Robin-Excellent, especially Inspection,STN, and Silence. Kyrie is a classic. I usually listen to Robin, Plot, and Kyrie one after another. They flow in perfectly together.
Avalon- Another amazing soundtrack, this time by Kenji Kawaii, highly reccomended, especially Gray Lady (Ash), and Murphy’s Ghost.
Ghost in the Shell- Another amazing soundtrack by Kenji Kawaii, His genius cannot be overstated. Try Floating Museum and Nightstalker, they are truly amazing.
Patlabor 2- Kawaii does it yet again with this amazing atmospheric soundtrack.

tough choice it is.. but right now I have in mind;

i like most anime music in general but the bgm music for kimagure orange road was superb. i also enjoyed the music from d.n.angel especially the song caged bird. i think it’s by shinuchi miyamoto not sure. it is a nicely arranged piece i think its beautiful. i’ll shut up about that. i also enjoyed the song that plays on the last episode of love hina where naru punches the sand sculpture keitaro is hiding behind.

I love the music from Macross Plus by Yoko Kanno, but I’m not claiming it to be the best, just my personal favorite.

Don’t waste your time. If it plays out like the manga, it starts out strong, but starts to drag really badly, especially toward the end. The movies look promising, but the other incarnations are a perfect example of a good concept falling victim to greed and being drawn out so far that the entire thing fails.

His and Her Circumstances, hands down. I actually like it more than the series itself.

An anime music thread an the name Kajiura Yuki hasn’t come up once? (I’ve noticed some of her works mentioned though…). Kajiura Yuki is my hero and personal goddess of anime music. Anyways she created the music of:

.Hack://SIGN (This was a good anime, but it would have been nothing without it’s vibrant brain-teasing soundtrack which brought everything to life. From the Indian-desert-sounding Magic and Sword to the the melancholy of Say Goodbye, this soundtrack was perfect.)
Tsubasa Chronicle (5-stars for Tsubasa, styles of music from all over the world seem to complement eachother perfectly. Dark, chanting vocals and haunting violin solos provide a mysterious feel, and sad and exciting sounds are incorperated to perfectly suit each emotion of the story)
Le Protrait de Petite Cosette (A wonderfully melancholy sound, very dark, yet somehow relaxing)
My-Hime (Itis mostly the sad and emotional themes that really shine in this series, but all the music is good)

Kanon (I am dying for the 2006 one to come out. Kanon’s music has a dreamy feel; like a sort of dramatic lullaby… Piano de Kanon is one of the finest piano solo album’s out there.)
Fate/Stay Night (The soundtrack of Fate/Stay Night was simply brilliant, topping my list for anime music of 2006. Again, this soundtrack shines more in it’s melancholy themes, but it’s more up-beat themes like Dashing Rivals were also wonderful.)

Off the top of my head I’d say Bleach (Opening Theme : Rolling Star by YUI) has been stuck in my head for weeks now. She’s only 19 too :/

Beck has some really good songs too, I really like Moon on the Water.

Ghost in the Shell though, opening themes for both SAC 1 & 2 really stand out to me.

I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned Gundam Seed yet. I have the CD Symphony Seed and there’s a lot violin/stringed goodness in there.

Joe Hisaishi – Princess Mononoke, Laputa. All very emotional, lyrical and well orchestrated, as expected of Joe Hisaishi.

Death Note Ending – Alumina is amazing. I love the fast ‘tinkly’ piano over the roaring electrics and drums in the chorus. Also good contrast between chorus and the verses.

Noir, Canta per me – everyone loves this one. Strong cellos supporting a memorable melodic line.

Elfen Lied – Half of it was really creepy or morbid sounding, which suits the anime of course. I listen to it when I’m in a murderous mood.

Others I enjoy:
Mai Hime, FMA, FMP (had a few good ones in there), Eureka 7 (again, a few good ones in here..for some reason, I love Anemone’s theme), DNAngel (very melodious), Kannazuki no Miko (one of the saddest sounding OSTs I’ve ever heard. It’s mellow and emotional. Lots of strings.)

While Howl’s Moveing Castle was good and is one of my fav’s, Hellsing was better. Much better

the intro song for Lain is also good.

Lain’s intro song is good, but I’ve got the soundtrack and some of the tracks get really repetitive and old pretty fast. Kind of like Daft Punk. It’s cool if you’re not REALLY listening too closely.
As for favorite anime OSTs.. I’m sure this has been mentioned ten thousand times already, but Cowboy Bebop and Wolf’s Rain OSTs are fantastic, as well as Trigun (very mellow), Neon Genesis Evangelion (anguished and borderline psychotic), and um… Chobits? It’s very.. well, I guess I have no excuse for liking the soundtrack from Chobits, other than that I liked the show. Meh.

Some of the best music to me is by Yoko Kanno. Very beautiful and it sets the mood perfectly with each anime it’s in. But really I gotta say that Wolf’s Rain has some of the best (no, not just because I like it) Also so does Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell.

Oh man, I can’t believe I didn’t notice Kanno did GitS… I loved the I’ve heard for the anime (only seen a few eps. must get around to watching the rest.) The more I listen the more I’m finding out I like Kanno’s music, take Ragnarok Online II’s music XD I can’t get enough of it.

Tenchi Muyo OVA has good music. I also like the music from the 1st Tenchi film – the one with Kain. The composer for the film was Christopher Franke, better known for his fantastic soundtracking of Babylon 5

The Kinnikuman character themes are quite catchy, on the basis of the music’s cadence representing the mood, nationality, and characteristics of a certain individual from the anime. The introduction tunes are noteworthy, too. They really impart a galvanizing feeling, whereas the ending themes are more facetious and solemn.

Samurai Champloo for me. It had a great soundtrack, though at some points it didn’t fit.

The second is Death Note. I’m only saying this one because the music made the moments more dramatic with the opera and symphonic add-ins.

Noein- This is the prime example of how music is done for a series. Every piece of music fits each scene perfectly. The soundtrack, especially the fight music, is just epic.

I think my favorite anime music has been from the .Hack series and FullMetal Alchemist. And I remember I used to be really into Cowboy Bebop music, too. =D

If you mean strictly OP and ED themes, then that’s very hard to say. Now if you were asking what OST I liked from what anime, I’d say a few titles like Air, Hikaru No Go and Ghost in the Shell.

For me, I’d say Cowboy Bebop, Wolf’s Rain, Macross Zero, Macross Plus, definitely Hellsing, Big-O, and Earth Girl Arjuna. I know there’s others, but I really haven’t been able to listen to anime OSTs lately.

Id have to say the music from mahou shoujo lyrical nanoha and kenshin. Both series have great music, nanoha is more upbeat than kenshin, but kenshin has some good melodies.

The one with the "best" music, naturally.

Ghost in the shell Stand alone complex Has the best in my opinion. I have listened to the OST more times than any other. I lost count actually. Cyberbird is my personal fave.

My favorite is Cowboy Bebop, I just can’t get enough of that jazz feeling!

A close second is actually Naruto. I really like how they blend old Japanese instruments with the electric guitar/ other newer instruments.

IMO, ROD OVA had the best soundtrack because the sounds complimented the anime very well.

I’m surprised I never posted in here before.

The first series that caught my ear was Yakitate!! Japan (example: "Yakitate!! Japan" main theme). Being my first series watched intentionally and to competition, I was especially impressed with the effort they put towards it music. I wasn’t expecting something that I would eventually download the soundtrack for.

The next series that I took a liking to for music was Ouran High School Host Club (example: "Introduction and Waltz for Piano"). I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed that series nearly as much if it weren’t for the music. Similarly, Nodame Cantabile (ex. varied), which revolves around musical performances by the main characters, had predictably great music.

I experienced Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei only recently, and I rather enjoyed the music in that, especially Itoshiki Nozumu (the titular Mr. Despair)’s Theme.

My tastes, if you couldn’t see through the examples, include mostly instrumental, orchestrated music using a wide variety of professional instruments.

Initial D I guess I can say has good music. M.O.V.E – Dogfight is a badass song.

Giant Robo, Macross everything (except Zero and Frontier), Iria: Zeiram the Animation, Project A-Ko, Bubblegum Crisis, Ranma, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, Nausicaa, and…….

By far, some of the highest quality compositions I know. I’ve been listening to these two soundtracks for… oh, I dunno, 4 years or so. It continues to be a rich experience in many ways. So many genres are touched… why, I am Brazilian by birth and citizenship, and you can’t imagine how surprised I was to find some bossa nova in this Japanese anime. This is kind of a broad question. So rather than saying specific anime soundtracks, I’ll name my favorite composer and singer.

1.) (Composer) Yuki Kajiura- I love most of Kajiura’s work both in anime and game soundtracks.

IMO Cowboy Bebop had the best music of any anime series. And some other ones worth mentioning would be GITS: SAC, Gankutsuou, and Blue Submarine No. 6.

Cowboy Bebop and Bleach.

Hokuto no Ken. All of the songs are pretty epic and fit the tone of the anime.

I think it would have to be berserk or ninja scroll.

But this one here has one of the best intro scenes i’ve ever seen! I uploaded it about 3 days ago right after seeing the series. bought the dvd for about 8 us dollars! It wasn’t too good tho, but the intro made up for it

I generally feel that the best soundtracks are the orchestral type (like ones composed by Kaoru Wada [ie Ninja Scroll, Inuyasha]), but it really depends on the type of title. Berserk has a great soundtrack, but then again, so does Cowboy Bebop, and they are at different ends of the spectrum.

hmm, I would say any anime where the composers are either Michiru Oshima (xam’d, Full Metal Alchemist), or Joe Hisaishi (Miyazaki movies)
Yoko Kanno is also pretty good.

I own all the Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle soundtracks. They were amazing. I’m a huge fan of composer Yuki Kajiura. She is just amazing.

Cowboy Bebop. I like the orchestral score for Inuyasha too, although I didn’t watch more than half of the series. The stuff by Hisaishi for Studio Ghibli, especially Princess Mononoke, is also fantastic.

Eureka seveN, well at least to match the mood of the shows. Bleach are pretty good but is it the songs of the kick ass intro animation that make them so good.

To me greats anime’s composers are: Kouji Makaino (Versailles no Bara), Ikebe Shin’Ichirou (Mirai Shounen Conan), Shunsuke Kikuchi (Grendizer and Getter Robo), Michiaki Watanabe (Mazinger and Jeeg), Takeo Watanabe (Daitarn and Candy Candy) Kentaro Haneda (Baldios), Joe Hisaishi (Spirited Away, Mononoke).. but probably the best OST I’ve ever heard is Cyborg 009 of Masaaki Hirao!!

I don’t want to sound like a jerk, but since when Naruto had good music? I mean, i can give you the right to say that with Bleach, Saint Seiya or even One Piece… but with Naruto? (I liked the music when i was a naive kid a couple of years ago, but with time you notice that the music is bad) But well, To each their own i guess.

So, good music in anime… hmm, FullMetal Alchemist, or the very 1st O.S.T. of Hellsing is really good. Also for what i can remember Zeta Gundam, Gundam Wing and the Macross series has some really great score.

Oh yeah! And Gurren-Lagann too, that series contains so much win.

Listened to visual novel over anime but so far Clannad has the best ost I have ever heard and it was a pain to find.

The music just invokes lost feelings of loneliness and reality that fit well with the story and makes it all the more serious.

Bleach has an excellent soundtrack. They just never include anywhere near all of the songs from the show into the actual releases.

Ranma 1/2 gets my vote — at least when the music was handled by Hideharu Mori and Kenji Kawai. I’ve spent a lot of years collecting their work for Ranma 1/2, and I never get tired of listening to it. I’m a gnat’s wing from having collected every single piece of score that they officially released for the show, and that makes me happy. Absolutely adore their work.

Akihisa Matsuura’s work on the show, however… well, I’ll just say I’m not keen and move on. I really felt like the show lost something special when his music became the predominate stuff. I almost never listen to his contributions, even though I’ve gone through great lengths to collected it for the sake of completion (although I do really enjoy the OVA work).

Runner up, for me, would be Trigun. Beautiful work in that show, some really moving tracks as well as some disturbing stuff, and the action cues work gloriously too. I can’t wait to see Badlands Rumble.

But my personal opinion I’m tired of this kind of soundtrack she done on cowboy bepob and GITS SAC, and recicle it to other animes recently. :/
I miss the great orchestra compositions of her, even based on famous classical compositions. I used to love Cowboy Bepop soundtrack (maybe i still love, I’m just trying to get to a point :)) but hearung the same kind of alternative as she is doing all the time, I’m tired of a LOT of vocal songs and I want to listen Real compositions from her. Now I mostly hear Brain Powerd adn Escaflowne soundtracks, or anything "orchestrated" by her. If I want to listen GISTS SAC I always go listen ost 3, which is my favorite of all. 🙂

Bleach’s 1st and 3rd soundtracks were pretty amazing. Now it’s just not good at all. So I’d have to say Naruto Shippuuden has best music. Both soundtracks are damn amazing!

I like some of the bleach openings and endings :D! I’m also a big fan of One Piece "share the world" along with all the FLCL songs. Full metal alchemist has a lot of good ones and ghost in the shell is just plain AWESOME! if you’re someone who likes calming soft songs then i would reccomend the opening to Spice and Wolf (first season). I like all assortments of muic despite their genre or language so another good one (if you like opera time music) would be the beginning song to Elfen Lied. if you like strange unorthodox songs then you should listen to the beginning songs to Higurashi No Noku koro ni, (1st season)the beginning and ending songs to Resurrection Princess, Beginning songs to Soul Eater (first season). Another good one is the beginning song to "The Last Exile", Beginning song to "Devil may cry" and the beginning song to "To Love Ru". lol i know a few more but these are the most memorable

air gear has some pretty awsome music, so does soul eater <3 I think kekkaishi has a good set of music and shakugan no shana also has a good OST as well. Welcome to the NHK has a pretty fun and interesting OST I just got the DVD for that recently :O

Saint Seiya… hands down.

I’ve seen too many movies/series/OVA that I had excellent music. EVA,boogiepop phantom,Kaiba,Ghost in the shell,Jin Roh,Hokuto No Ken. Just too many to name. And I’m not talking about the intros/endings it’s so stupid to base a show’s music after just the intro/ending. I think they are only a small part of the overall soundtrack.

As as I said too many! Don’t forget Naruto,Kikaider. That’s not even a fraction of the list of shows with great soundtracks.

Probably mentioned far too many times, or seen as overrated but I have to say Cowboy Bebop has the best soundtrack. Yoko Kano is brilliant. I would like to also include Fullmetal Alchemist for its excellent composed scores. And as a throwback I believe Digimon Adventure in English had an excellent score as well.

So many great ones out there it’s hard to single out one or two lol. I’d also add Last Exile and the recent sequel Last Exile -Fam, The Silver Wing-‘s soundtracks as some of the best I’ve ever heard.

Gundam Unicorn…or any anime composed by Hiroyuki Sawano. Best of music of any anime I’ve watched.

Tough to say… probably Clannad for me. Maybe Kanon. More recently, Guilty Crown had a great soundtrack. My favorite vocal-oriented soundtrack would probably be School Days’. Terrible anime, but in my opinion a really well put together soundtrack.

I think Star Driver had great music. Some of the instrumental only compositions were hit or miss, but they were strong hits when they made it. And of course, the vocal music (the maiden songs) are fabulous pieces of work.

Any anime that Shinkichi Mitsumune works on will have great music, if you ask me. Yoko Kanno and Yuki Kaijura also do beautiful work.

The music is Aria is very lovely, and while it doesn’t really compare as far as composition or arrangement goes (or even just being outstanding), the music in Ojamajo Doremi is a lot of fun~.

Rewatching the series, it really does have fantastic music. I am intent on hunting down the OSTs.

Sailor Moon has awesome BGM, i think nobody question that.

Maybe you dont like the series (like me for ex. U^^) but the music is really wonderful, no doubt. And this make me think that sometimes we give away really good music only because we dont like that anime or series.

For example, i hate Omega… But its a fac too that it has very good BGM there (although many of them are resampling of the old Seiji works).. But the series… Argh.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica has the best music. The score is composed by Yuki Kajiura – the lead singer in the group Kalafina.

I listened to the music of Kyoukai, and i does have this mysterious language.

I have known for a while that "lyrics" for Credens justitiam exist. It’s such a sad song when you read the lyrics, but when you listen to the song it all "YEAH! GO MAMI!" So sad.

If I’m correct, for the Madoka movies #1 and #2 Credens justitiam is sung in Japanese.

Just for the first movie, in the same infamous scene Credens justitiam is used for the TV series. I can’t remember for sure, but I believe Credens justitiam was still used in other parts of the films. At least during Mami’s debut and when Madoka and Mami save Homura in the first timeline.

Japanese version is titled as Mirai and was released on Kalafina’s Hikari Furu single along with both film’s ED themes.

I looked on YouTube and the only one i could find was a fandub of Mirai. It was awesome, the fan dubbers had good singing voices. And I like how the song has been extended from about 2 minutes to about 4 minutes.

I can’t wait for the movies to be released on DVD and Blu-ray in America. Have you seen the movies?

I’m very picky with soundtracks and not many have a godly status, there are many masterpieces out there of course but, to my understanding the only animes that I would even consider to have "GODLY" soundtrack are:

1. Saint Seiya – Nothing will ever dethrone these soundtracks as the best anime soundtracks to ever exist. It is and has been the most beautiful symphonic and vocals I’ve heard in any anime to date. I don’t know how many manly tears I’ve shed listening to Athena’s Death from the 5th soundtrack.

2. Rurouni Kenshin – Beautiful music too – will touch your soul.

3. Eureka Seven – Beautiful soundtracks.. They are very sad and sentimental.

I’m kinda new to the whole anime scene. I have always collected soundtracks from composers I am interested in even if I never saw the work it was composed for, such as Yuki Kajiura, Yoko Kanno, etc. I decided recently to give the Key adaptations a try. So, after I cleaned up all the flood damage (SO MANY TEARS) I’ve decided Angel Beats music is freaking FANTASTIC. It’s currently my favorite anime soundtrack. ROBOTICS;NOTES is another one I can think of that I REALLY enjoyed, and DATE a LIVE has one of the best opening themes ever. I’m trying to list ones I don’t hear about too often but I keep circling back to the ones that I just watched (Clannad, Air, Kanon, Angel Beats, Little Busters) I think I have a problem haha.
