download links forum guidelines

1) feel free to post as many links to complete albums as you want, but keep it one album to a thread unless they’re related

2) use specific titles so people can find it

3) please don’t give the links out outside of ffshrine

4) please say what site/host you’re using in the topic title (rapidshare, sendspace, megaupload, etc)

5) if you found posts useful, please take the time to thank the provider– if no one appreciates what they do, they may not upload more in the future

well, this is under the video game music so it’s mostly for video game / anime music. I suppose we could look into adding something like it for the regular music forum eventually

I’m not against the idea of a non-vgm/anime music section, but it’s just not what this is intended for. a lot of posts were put in main vgm discussion with links on rapidshare/etc, so this was just a logical leap really

You…. You’re a smart one! Sarah, could you please give my post a title? The topic is Thread 31177 and I was trying to put a title along the lines of Rayman 1 OST (Sendspace).

Edit the thread, and choose "Advanced". That allows you to edit the title, I think. It usually takes a while for it to update, though. (I’m not sure if that’s the delay for an admin to do it, though).

I’ve missed titles a few times, because when you re-preview a post it erases your title.

Looks like someone already changed the title, but I’ll try that next time. Thank you!

6a) This is critical to the lifespan of a download link: Code it. Not only code it, but "corrupt" the url or change it a bit. Example "hxxp://www[dot]fill-in-the-blank[dot]com"

Why? This is one of the ways file hosting site administrators go about removing copyright violating content. Links that aren’t coded and/or corrupted phone home back to the mothership (the server) so to speak. By following this advice, the link can’t do this.

6b) Give your file/archive a non obvious title or one that is completely unrelated to the content. So, instead of "Final Fantasy VI Piano Collection" rename it to "podcast#15" or whatever. File hosting sites like Rapidshare, Megaupload, Filefront, etc have bots or an automated system that scans for uploads by file name.

6c) Password protect your file(s)/archive(s). I’m just paranoid that an administrator will open my archive, see it for what it really is and remove it.

6d) Optional. Don’t use file hosting sites where the download links end in .zip, .rar or whatever archiving system you use. You don’t want a busy body outsider using the Google Blog search engine or Share Miner, finding your link and reporting it to its respective hosting site, now do you? This step is useless, however, if you title your download file something that won’t set off any red flags.

Points 6a&b really should be included in the OP. Since early January, I’ve been posting my uploads in several warez forums and none of them have been removed from my file hosting site of choice, FlyUpload.

i love this place. i can download lots of ost with simple and convenient rules. some site has stupid rules like certain points required to download and that point had to be replenish with lot of upload. not everyone in the world can have fast upload speed.

By the way, if you guys would select the little box beside "Encrypt Filenames" in WinRAR or WinZIP and also code the main file title, like instead of Zelda – Twilight Princess Original Soundtrack.rar you did ZTPOST.rar and also pass the file, they wouldn’t get wipped from servers (yes I realize I didn’t do that for this one or code the filename for the mario all-stars ost i just re-upped, but I’m just now getting back to where I upload stuff, so just listen. The main filename does not matter, if you have folders you want to protect the file structure for, there’s an option for that too, but the servers like mega and rapid are being botted with word recognition and being opened, pass them, encrypt them, and code the main filename and they can’t see the filenames in the rar unless they have the password. The final step is to use a site to upload to multiple sites automatically immediately after your single upload, an upload mirror site…….just saying, it’d be nice if ppl on here had a standard upload process rather than the files being wiped after just 3 days online. That didn’t really change it, unfortunately…

People should at least post multiple formats, not every member here likes or can play OGG/Flac files and why should we be forced to download a Flac player to play a certain music? People like choice and not forced to use one format. Currently I cannot play Flac files or want to listen to wma files (a certain ost is only in wma format) everyone seems to be obsessed with Flac but uploaders MUST realise not everyone likes Flac

Since lot of things changed since 2007,
is there a NEW list with the RECOMMENDED hosting sites?.
With recommended I mean something free that won’t turn mad anyone trying to download from it (200mb every 48hs @10kbps)

I want to upload some heavy FLAC files.
By the way, are TORRENTS allowed? Torrents I maintain or will keep on seeding. At least as complementary files to the hosting.
