also what do you mean ‘can it match up’?…
ffix also is a good game, but not great like ffx and ffvii…
but ffix is more interesting, and if you wanna know why, play the game…
You don’t have to, but it is fun when you play a lot of the classics, and then IX brings back that feel and uses a lot of the same things as the classics did.
But it isn’t exactly like any of the classics.
The music in IX way better than any other FF, in my opinion.
The story was good, pretty basic with a few minor plot twists. (Not going to give any away)
I thought the characters were good because of the bond together. And although many people hated Zidane (main charatcer), it is cool to see how he changes from beginning to end in this game.
Uhh, that is pretty much it.
Buy it, play it, whatever.
Anyway, yes I would urge you to at least try FFIX, it is for me one of the best of the FF series, FF6 probally being the only one better. Why, you ask?
Story: Superb, it slowly builds momentum and comes to a peak at Disc 3, the first 2 discs are merely the tip of the iceberg. It all comes together really nicely though. Also, the game benefits from having Kuja, who is quite an excellent villian.
Characters: I like them, they aren’t shallow stereotypes(with the exception of Amarant), they actually seem to be more then that and they interact well. Ok, the love story between Zidane and Dagger is unoriginal, but the theme of friendship and loyalty is strong in this game. Like I previously stated, the game benefits from a good villian.
Gameplay: Excellent, the fact that you have the job system is a great help. Unlike FF7 and FF8, where any character can be whatever you want s/he to be, this game requires you to consider your choice of party carefully. The fact that you can have 4 party members, as opposed to 3, makes up for what some would argue the job system as being restricted. Trance, is for me a good thing. You get the benefit of a sustained bonus, as opposed to an anti-climatic single attack. Chocobo Hot and Cold, is a good mini-game and is just the right length, so not to get too repetitve.
Music: Again excellent, some magnificent tunes in this game, Mystery Sword and the likes. You will find plenty of tunes to your liking in this game, thats for sure.
Thats a summary of the main elements of the game, if you need to know anything else or want me to go into detail, feel free to ask. Best advice is to try it yourself and make of it what you will.
It matches up better than FFVII and FFVIII, easily. And I did the same thing that you did with FFIX. I just started playing it a few weeks ago, and have only touched FFX-2 for a limited amount of hours. But I plan to play FFX-2 after I finish FFIX for the second playthrough.
i’d say it might not blow you away at first, because it’s so similar to 7 and 8, but it will definatly grow on you.
it looks great for a psone game, it plays very similar to 7 really.
it’s a bit slow at times, load times and battles are a pain,
but the music is some of my favourite in any ff game (second to 6 i’d say)

Well with a playstation 2 or a good emulation (and pc) you wont have problems with the loading time.
I dont think its similar to 7&8. It looks more similar to the classics, and if what you said (it plays similar to the 7 really) you mean the battle system, well 9 has way more advanced battle system than 7 which was something like a "remake" of the relic system of 6.
Cloudxsquall I recoment you try the game, it is a great one. A big difference that it has with 7&8 is that each character has a different ability like 1 is White Mage, other warrior, other thief etc.
there are the references of course and the character classes.
But really, it is closer to the other psone final fantasies in all but the setting.
Also, do not address me without using proper grammar and punctuation. If you cannot be bothered to show that simple courtesy to the people reading your posts, then you are not worth responding to. It demonstrates that you care more about making a post to see your name on screen than to communicate a point to someone else.
all you do is whine like a lil bitch
go get a spade and dig up your missing chromosome

he must be such a loser,he must get no respect in real life
you can both suck my cock
The internet needs more spelling and grammar NAZIs because very few of the recent crotchfruits that spawned off Madame Meth-head’s skank-ass vagina even bothered to tidy up their spelling and grammar…and that’s just fucking insulting to us who actually took the time to learn and use the language properly.
PS : I like Prak and I think you’re nothing but an ass-talking cum-funnel. So go bake an "eat shit" soufflé and shove it down your throat. I hope you choke on it.
bwargh!…
this really makes me wanna dance till tomorrow…

Then do something about it.
I believe she already has by now, but I’ll get this thread back on track anyhow.
Basically, FFIX is an extremely good game, the story and plot are excellently told, and it’s definitely worth your time.
Anyhow, you MUST buy FFIX. It is one of the greatest games on the PS1, and it certainly matches up to FFVII and VIII. Get it ASAP. The Plot is superb, the Music is spine-chillingly beautiful and the Graphics are among the best you will see on the PS1, so why wait? GET IT NOW, FOOL!
On a side-note, try NOT to bring up Spoilers for a first-timer people, okay?

Fix’d:smrt:
By "AT PARTS," do you mean from the first time you see the Prima Vista until after all the credits and neato scenes are finished rolling? For if you do, you’re absolutely correct.
Anyhow… yeah, I’m one of those FF9 fans who thinks FF9 not only "matches up" to FF8 and FF7, it surpasses them in every way. But don’t take my word for it. ๐
One thing you might need to be aware of, though, is that the atmosphere of FF9 is very different from FF7 or FF8. Zidane’s actually, y’know, a NICE, OPTIMISTIC guym for one.
Oh, and yeah, he’s got a tail. But that’s part of his charm. ๐
Anyway, add me to the list of people here telling you that I think it’s worth it for you to at least try out.
And mine too.

Whatever you say, Levar.

Zidane is not emo, basically.
Oh, and yeah, he’s got a tail. But that’s part of his charm. ๐
But he’s so sexy, he doesn’t really even NEED the tail.
Anyway, add me to the list of people here telling you that I think it’s worth it for you to at least try out.
Nothing to add to that.
Right, I meant something productive.
I’ve gotten a little sidetracked with FFIX the last week or so. I’m still near the beginning of Disc 3 on the second playthrough, and I’m just basically trying to complete all the sidequest and goodies that I still can. So I anticipate putting on 10-20 more hours still.
