Also, anyone who says they like the FF7 soundtrack the best because ‘One Winged Angel is the bezt eva’ will be mocked. And, do try and give examples of the tracks you liked from whichever soundtrack.I’ll give individual examples once i’ve listened to them all a few more times.
Quite simply put, not only is it the most interesting soundtrack but it`s also the one that never gets old for me.
Upon starting FFIX the soundtrack didn`t appeal to me much. It felt too different from FFVII and FFVIII, i didn`t take well to the change at all. However, time passed and i grew quite fond of the FFIX soundtrack because it contains many of my favorite tracks ever to grace a FF game, or any game for that matter. The tracks that stand out for me as pure brilliance would be "Burmecian Kingdom", "Hunter`s Chance" (great little opening nod to FFVI), "Jesters of the moon", "Vamo’ alla Flamenco" and the totaly under rated "Ice carvern".
As a complete soundtrack i feel it`s Uematsu`s best work to date. And one that feels like it belongs to the actualy game. ;(
Also I agree with Denny. FF9 has the best sound track imo. "Skirmish with the silver dragons" ftw!
FF6- The decisive battle
FF7- Those who fight further
FF8- Mods de Chocobo
FF9- Skirmish with the Silver Dragons or Those whom we must protect
FF10- Someday the Dream will end
Sorry Bryan ๐
I didnt really like any music in X-2 tbh.
I’ll give some of my favourites in a bit, once I get through them all.~
Orchestrated versions definitely go to the Opera house sequence (holy shit, that entire arrangement is BRILLIANT!), Hitori Ja Nai (if anyone hasn’t heard this symphonic version, FIND IT, NOW. IT IS AWESOME!!), Vamo alla Flamenco, and again Itsuka Kaeru Tokoro ~ Melodies of Life.
As far as the raw game music goes, FF9’s always wins it for me. While I can listen to any of the FF soundtracks easily, FF9 really brings back memories. And in the game, some of it really brings me to tears, gets me all hyper about fighting battles (yay, Hunter’s Chance!), or really brings out the emotion of the moment. Plus I love the way there’s a few melodies that recur throughout the entire game and change depending on the place you’re at.
Rose of May, Todokanu Omoi, and Hitori Ja Nai are at the top of my Uematsu favorites list, with Melodies of Life being not only my favorite song from Final Fantasy and Uematsu, but my favorite song, EVER.
SO yep, it’s FF9’s soundtrack for me.
But anyway, most of the songs I download are from various FFs so I don’t really have a "favorite". I just checked my play counts and the X; X-2 songs have the most. There’s the winner.
Now, I’m going to have to say Mystic Quests. I don’t own the soundtracks to any of these, so I’m going with in-game music. MQ has different battle music, and a cool, eclectic sort of feel to the dungeons and towns. On the stage in the inn at Volcano Town, there’s a band that plays a good amalgamation of Johnny B. Goode and some other song I’ve never heard of. Anyway, the good negates the bad in the game, the bad only being the boss fights and enemies dying. Victory Fanfare in MQ is the best one I’ve ever heard.
I’ll say though, given the limitations of the hardware, Final fantasy adventure for the gamboy is really quite brilliant.
1 and 2 played a little didn’t warm to it.
3, better but not quite as good as 4 to 10 (loved the battle music)
4, very good. some really very good tunes there. the airship and world map themes get a special mention.
5, again very good. about the same as 4 but i can’t remember any standout tracks.
6, I don’t recall a piece in that game that isn’t at least good. It had my favourite battle theme, a great world map theme (both of them) ‘Wild west’ is funky (the veldt) Edgar and Sabin’s theme.
I also loved listening to ‘searching for friends’ and the battle with atma weapon.
7. has some good tunes, ‘Bombing mission’ really gets you going. The main theme is really quite good too. (world map on disk 1) Ive always liked cid’s theme and underneeath the rotting pizza (sector 5) and ‘Full scale attack’ (when you climb up into junon the first time)
I’m not all that keen on one winged angel though…
8. I think this is one of the weakest overall, only in my opinion of course. However ‘The landing’ is my favourite by a mile. I always looked forward to battles as Laguna, because the main battle theme was a little dull.
9.The music as with the whole game grew on my massively. I really like the battle theme for some reason. The bass at the start and throughout is a great throwback to the earlier games.
Although can’t think of too many standout tracks, they are all really fitting. Despite being generic, the airship theme is really good and i love ‘feel my blade’ (fight during the play) and the world map theme ๐
Oh! and ‘you’re not alone’ was my favourite the first time though.
10, i hated the soundtrack to this the first time (as with almost all of the changes from the earlier games). However the 2nd playthrough i ‘got’ what the game was about and the music.
‘Zanarkand ruins’,’besaid ruins’ and silence before the storm. (which sounds familiar unlike many of the songs) are pretty good off the top of my head, and maybe Auron’s theme.
ff adventure, now the main world map themes are excellent and so is the in town tune. I can’t remember much but i do recall thinking how good the music all is.
Mystic quest, didn’t like it much but love the battle theme.
Without Cid, I wouldn’t have got into smokin’ and cussin’. =P
