p.s. i think he dies what you think
he lives. in my opinion though: worst. ff ending. ever.
I can’t help but snigger at that when the person who wrote that has a Vincent sig and a SquallxRinoa avatar. But to make this post more than just a potshot, I’d really like to hear what makes FFIX’s ending so inferior to endings like, oh, FFVII and FFVIII.
i never got the feeling that the world was in danger so it kind of took away the whole "yay we saved the world" feeling.
also, please explain the comment about my avatar and signature. and what they have to do with me not liking the ffix ending much.
*rolls eyes*
Correction. They show a bunch of "little" Vivi’s.
Everyone else is VERY DISTINCTLY SHOWN. Zidane, Dagger, Steiner, Beatrix, Freya, Fratley, Quina, Amarant, Lani, Eiko, Cid, HILDA, Puck, too, fer God’s sake. It’s made obvious what became of each person, except for Vivi. So again, becuase I SO like repeating myself, Vivi, who was the backbone and one of the main three characters of FF9, was never CLEARLY shown.
That last monologue is all Vivi speaking. Why would he say "farewell" to all of his friends, and then not show up to this big event when everyone else did.
As for you opinion about FF9’s ending…? I’m trying very hard not to giggle.
As for IX’s ending, I loved it. It’s the only FF ending I’ve actually seen, but I still thought it was rather touching. Seeing Zidane under the cloak was priceless.
Although how long did it take for him to get back from Iifa?
garnets hair had grown long again and which takes weeks? months? Nevermind eh?
i must have been day dreaming to not pick up that whole thing.
my mistake. maybe im biased about this ending just because i never liked zidanes character.
great game though.
>:O
>:O
No.
Even if his dead isn’t 100% cleared at the end, it IS clear to assume that.
And this way, it’s actually so much better than bluntly mentionting it that Vivi actually died. ;(
…where they pretty much bastardized him, but seeing as he’s the only FF9 character to appear in any of the three games, I was just happy he was there at all. ๐

He looks so much more kinkyer in KH o_o

Thank you. Making it obvious would kill the effect. As it stands, it was quite touching.
The truth is, Vivi didn’t die. He just got a new contract… and got Magically Whisked Away into Kingdom Hearts.
because FF8’s ending kicks ass
black paladin what u eman by calling prak?
And let’s face it, sometimes there are characters that really deserve happy endings. ๐
Sorry, but I’m not touching this one. It was a lame thread to begin with and never had any chance of being decent, so I honestly don’t give a damn how badly they shit it up.
And let’s face it, sometimes there are characters that really deserve happy endings. ๐
Yeah I completely agree with you there. I mean if it just showed Dagger saying her goodbyes, and no happy reunion, people would still complain. So you can’t really win >_< Lol.
I read somewhere that Vivi was about 10 years old. He was different from the other black mages, but he was created and his time had to come. We also don’t know how much time passed between The Iifa Tree and the reunion. vivi could have lived for a while.
Plus, I can only handle so many Onion Kids in one thread.

I felt much the same way.
down the line mabie just mabie thoguh ti don’t really bielieve this its possible that
what if vivi couldn’t make it to the play but since i hasn’t seen anyone in a logn time he write the letter in case he stopped or died befor he saw everyone again
Thank you for proving my point.
right?

Indubitably. (and I know the first comment is meant as a joke as valid as it is)
I think it’s good they don’t show anything about Vivi. I mean if they just put in the fact that he’s dead, It’d just totally ruin the happy ending.
Would’ve been something if he did and they made a gravestone for him though. Stopping wasn’t all that depressing through the Black Mage Villagers’ eyes.
Judge for yourself. ๐
fine u guys do what ever you want. I’m quiting these fourms you guys are all assholes so don’t bother respawnding to this post (not the thread jsut hte post)
I thought you had quit these forums because we were all assholes? ๐
PS. In spite of backhanding you just then, I think you could be a decent poster here. Problem is that if you give posters on here any ammunition to take the piss they will use it gladly. I personally think they shouldn’t, but to be fair if you’re going to come on here, post messages with the grammar and spelling of a three year old, then get in a strop and threaten to leave when people start a bit of light bashing, you’re asking for it a bit.
PPS I’m not posting this to have a dig at you, just giving you some advice.
Vivi was accidentally made to powerful, which made him live longer. I bought the game again and am beating it again for old times sake.. I’ll tell ya what I think when I do.. I gott dirge of cerberus and ff8 and ff12 now to to mess with whem I’m bored off ffxi online lol.. so theres no telling when I’ll actually finish it. But I’m very close. I have all the ultimate weapons and all kinds of stuff, but i want lv 99 and to kill that mega boos that drops the dark matter or w/e it is that maximises odins summon power before I beat it.. Leave no stone unturned is my philosophy.. I can’t say any ending displeased me more than ffx-2 though.. borrriinnnggg… was nice tidus kind of popped up but still, even that to me was just to easy for them to come up with.. 9 had a very solid story with nice CG.. I can’t complain, even playing it rigt now it still looks nice, just don’t try to play it on a high def TV lol.. looks like a bunch of squares makin luv :p
Okay… seriously, what was all that you just spewed out cause I don’t see how its relevant… <_<
Anyway! Yeah I think Vivi stopped, Otherwise what would be the point in all the little Vivi’s? And I thought that FF9’s ending was better than 8’s (and a hell of a lot better than 7’s :/ )
it ameks sense to kill off vivi when the game ends to put some sorrow into the game and make it a real fantasy and by the way shouldn’t this be with a spoiler tag
FWI:
sain you make to meny threads
How does that work?
Or did [Vivi] fade away or something?
in the story line they only get KOed even if: eaten, cut, biten, shot< lit on fire, swollened, or fall 3000 feet
Okay… seriously, what was all that you just spewed out cause I don’t see how its relevant… <_<

god ur stupid
if vivi was a black mage or a "doll or robot" couldn’t they just fix him
Nope. Unless you mean the super-exclusive ending that only came with the Limited Edition FFIX that was only released in Japan in 2006…
I don’t think he survived.
Ummm…
Well, they never really clarified Vivi was a puppet like all the other Black Mages. Maybe they did, I must’ve missed it. I’ll have to agree, Vivi was one of the most important characters in the game, so you’d think they would show him, etc.
Then again… when Puck runs into one of the Vivi’s, he goes "hey Vivi, how’s it going, etc." If Vivi died, don’t you think everyone would’ve known about it? Just a thought.
Not necessarily. If something like Zidane’s return (let alone the fact he was alive at all) could remain unknown to Dagger — and it’s obvious Dagger still thought about Zidane afterwards — something like Vivi’s death might stay a rumor or unknown to a lot of people until something like an Alexandria gathering happened and they saw Vivi’s family or the people who stayed with him.
Sometimes when you part ways with old friends, you don’t find out if they got married, had children, or what’s happened to them at all until a day you have reason to see them again. You know, like a highschool reunion.
I got a headache trying to read this. Aeris got stabbed by Sephiroth and was laid in peace by Cloud, therefore they didn’t need AC to prove she died.
Staying on topic, everyone assumed Zidane had died, since it had been so long. I guess its just one of the many FF mysteries, but it would make more sense to say that Vivi did die because of the dialogue @ the Iifa Tree. Oh well, Vivi is still a pretty bad dude.

ac was needed to prove she was dead to msot fans …. kingdom hearts never realy helpted that matter by makeing ehr alive and whill she seemed dead for msot of the game at the varty end you see her in the lake open her eyes witch is why a lot of people thought she was still alive witch is why i am glad ac cleared it up for a lot of fans
Back on topic :
i am sure the little dude died but again i think his tribe ahd a lonegr life span than most and with all the little vivi`s it made the ending happy you lose 1 charater and you gain his family …. if he is still alive is basicly up to fandom to deside in there own way i guss but all the facts seem to point that he died …. but thena gain this is the ff universe so
point out to every one saying phoenix and phoenix down : theyw roekd on koed members meaning theya re knocked out dead is story line is realy dead not just at 0 and knocked out
AC was not needed to prove she was dead. The numerous in game quotes, the fact that she was stabbed by a sword through the chest and the fact that she was dropped into a lake (and remained there…) prove that she was dead. The scene you refer to where she has her eyes open takes place in the lifestream at the end of the game. The game opens with this scene, its just a way of the game going ‘full circle’ if you will.
Kingdom Hearts takes place in a seperate universe althogether, if I recall Vivi is also alive in that game.
…..so is Aeris
that means she has been resurrected ๐
No. KH2 is a paradox, meaning Aeris, Vivi, Garland (from FFI) could all be in it if the creators felt like they would have a prominent part to play.
Well, he might of been in the crowd of little vivis cheering on zidane and dagger! Or maybe he could of just died in between the scene where he is with the little vivis and the scene where everyone of the party members are cheering. Or a third theory could be that he was never alive to begin with.
Vivis a strange person.
I’ll remain unconvinced of his survival until there’s some incontroversible evicence of it.
*ditto
The last narration is from Zidane, actually.
As for Vivi, I always assumed he survived and was among the other small mages in the crowd during the ending. The only reasonable hint of his possible survival is that he was tossed away as a defect when he was created.
There is just nothing in the game that address this question.
So Zidane heavily implies he dies by saying "my memories will be part of the sky"?
Enlighten me, Hynad, if you would.
I am completely open about this so how about you explain the whole speech to me, what Zidane is referring to as he speaks and whatnot?
"Kuja…
What you did was wrong…
But you gave us all one thing…
Hope…
We were all created for the wrong reason,
but you alone defied our fate.
We do not want to forget this.
We want your memory
to live on forever…
…To remind us that we were not
created for the wrong reason-
that our life has meaning."
I repeat that you get to read this while seeing Zidane walking out of the Iifa Tree.
After that, we get to read all the character’s thoughts about Zidane. They basically say what they learned from their contact with him.
Nowhere is it mentioned that someone died. The only thing sure about Vivi is that somehow, he managed to have kids.
Thank You.
Farewell.
My memory will be part of the sky…"
So that’s the part you are referring to. Yeah, it could be interpreted as a farewell from Vivi.
The part just before it:
"I’m so happy I met everyone…
I wish I could have gone on
more adventures.
But I guess we all have to say goodbye someday."
You know what, you’re probably right. The more I watch and rewatch the ending, the more it is likely that everything that is written was from the same "letter" as you put it. Even if I always interpreted each seperate parts as coming from different characters…
Especially this one, which I thought was obviously from Eiko. Now that I think about it and watch and re-watch the ending sequence over and over again (first time I did that, lol) it could be from Vivi as well.
Here’s the part I always thought was from Eiko (You see her with Cid and Hilda, and she calls Cid "dad"):
"What to do when I felt lonely…
That’s the only thing you couldn’t teach me.
But we need to figure out
the answer for ourselves…"
This was especially difficult to associate this part to someone else since in the game intro (before you start playing) there is an image of her with the quote "I don’t wanna be alone anymore …" So yeah, I thought it was pretty obvious that part about loneliness would be from Eiko.
But he more I think about it, the more I think you’re right and that all those "letters" are in fact parts of the same on. Which is the "adios" letter from Vivi to the other characters.
"Kuja…
What you did was wrong…
But you gave us all one thing…
Hope…
We were all created for the wrong reason,
but you alone defied our fate.
We do not want to forget this.
We want your memory
to live on forever…
…To remind us that we were not
created for the wrong reason-
that our life has meaning."
I repeat that you get to read this while seeing Zidane walking out of the Iifa Tree.
Actually, that’s Mikoto. She was meant to be the third Angel of Death after Kuja failed. In a sense, she’s the leader of the Genomes now, since she’s the only one (other than Zidane) that has a soul. In that message she’s speaking of how Kuja taught all of the Genomes a valuable lesson.
LMAO
OMFG VIVI’S A GIRL AND SHE WAS PREGNANT THE WHOLE GAME? This must explain why she kept on running around all the time
Yes, Vivi dies by the time of the game’s ending. Foreshadowing earlier in the game hints toward his demise as it is revealed that the Black Mages have a far shorter lifespan than the rest of Gaia’s dominant races, usually dying around a year after being created. In Vivi’s case, of course, he has lived to be nine years old, but we learn that he was the prototype of the Black Mages, and — according to Kuja, the Black Mages’ maker — would live longer as a result. However, the indication offered is that Vivi’s lifespan is still more limited than that of races such as Dagger’s and Freya’s:
Vivi
"……"
"I wanna ask you something."
Black Mage No. 288
"What is it?"
Vivi
"A-Am I gonna stop pretty soon, too?"
Zidane
"!"
Black Mage No. 288
"I don’t know…"
"Kuja said the prototype built before us would last longer."
Vivi
"But…I am gonna stop eventually."
Black Mage No. 288
"……"
With this foreshadowing in mind, we must then consider the manner in which Vivi speaks during the game’s ending, and what it is that he is saying:
"I always talked about you, Zidane. How you were a very special person to us, because you taught us all how important life is."
"You taught me that life doesn’t last forever. That’s why we have to help each other and live life to the fullest."
"Even if you say goodbye, you’ll always be in our hearts. So, I know we’re not alone anymore."
"Why I was born… How I wanted to live… Thanks for giving me time to think."
"To keep doing what you set your heart on… It’s a very hard thing to do. We were all so courageous…"
"What to do when I felt lonely… That was the only thing you couldn’t teach me. But we need to figure out the answer for ourselves…"
"I’m so happy I met everyone… I wish we could’ve gone on more adventures. But I guess we all have to say goodbye someday."
"Everyone… Thank you. Farewell."
"My memories will be part of the sky…"
Here, we have him not only saying farewell to everyone, but adding in "My memories will be part of the sky…." This would certainly indicate that Vivi believed his death was near.
With these things in mind, we must finally consider that Vivi does not appear in the final aspect of the ending, and only the beings that bear his appearance and are said to be his sons do. Were Vivi present during the ending amongst all these other Black Mages that bear his appearance, it’s safe to assume that he would be pointed out. It’s likewise safe to assume that he would have been present in Alexandria were he alive, as everyone else in the controllable party is — and even some characters who weren’t.
With the story written as it is, there’s no evidence toward Vivi having survived, and the very method of the story telling leading up to and during the ending infers his death.

There is a big Vivi 1.5 times the size of the others
