Once a character purchases a Mist Knack on the License Board, that Mist Knack dissapears from all other Boards.
The first Mist Knack any character gains will require one entire MP bar to cast. When that character gets a second Mist Knack, each one will require only half the MP bar to cast. When a character has three, it only takes a third of an MP bar for each Knack.
These moves are ultra powerful specials, but there is no significant change in their power between characters (except for the addition of elemental damage for some characters). This means that it doesn’t really matter who gets which one.
Does this help?
It’s not exactly like that. I will explain Mist Knacks/Quickenings deeply.
First, when you earn the required License Points (LP) to "buy" a certain Quickening ability from the License Board, you can do it, and it doesn’t matter where the quckening is in the license board, every character gets his own quickening, in other words, from the 18 possible quickening spots, if you unlock the one at North West of the license board for Vaan, he will learn the same Mist Knack that if you unlock the one at South East of the board (the first one should be red spiral or something like that). Fran, Balthier and everyone else will have different lv1,2 and 3 mist knacks, and those are the ONLY attacks that can’t be used by all other chars.
With summons is basically the same, but you choose who gets which summon (not like Mist knacks, you can’t choose to give red spiral to Vaan or Fran, because it’s Vaan’s ability, but you can give Belias to any of them).
To be able to do a Mist ability (be it Summoning or Mist knack) you must have a full MP bar, then the game pauses and you enter the "mist mode".
During a Mist Knack you will notice 3 things:
-Time bar counting down
-The names of your other party members with a button assigned to them
-R2 button that says "shuffle"
The character that selected the mist ability will start to perform it, and before the time runs out, you can press the button that shows in the screen with the name of other party members and if that character is able to do a mist knack it will link both of them, making a combo. Those combos can be very, very long (I’ve made a 8-hit long one but i’m just starting), but the difficulty resides in 2 parts. First the counter is every time faster and faster, and second, sometimes no button is assigned to other characters of your active party, and that’s when you need to press R2 to shuffle things up and hope it assigns buttons to them now. If it doesn’t you can keep shuffling till it appears, but careful with the timer.
When a character has more than 1 mist knack learned, he multiplies his mp by the number of quickenings he has (if he had 200 mp and learns his second quickening, he now has 400 mp, and for the third he has 600 mp!!! that you can use on anything, not just mist knacks, so it’s a great, GREAT way to make some easy mp space) and it will divide in 2 or 3 bars. To make a lv1 quickening you empty just one bar, for a lv2 you need to have full 2 bars that empty themselves when you do it and the same for lv3, so when you have a boss fight and don’t want to be without mp after the mist ability is performed, you can make a lv2 mist knack even if you have 3 full bars, so you can keep one full bar to heal, do magic, or cast bubble (which is the BEST spell EVER).
And that’s all, most of the time quickenings have names that seem to be of some element but to this time i don’t think they have elemental properties (this has to be confirmed)
Anyway, I don’t even know how I did it, I all did is press R2 and when the triangle icon appear I spammed it. But another time the triangle didn’t appear and it ended up shooting one hit of 400 damage :/
it’s said that if you keep R2 pressed it keeps rolling and yo have to be superfast to hit the button, but I rather wait till it stops, see if there’s something to press and if not, R2 again.
