Either the guy is really weak or the PS3 is tough as fuck to take 5 hits with a sledgehammer before shattering.
But, not my money!
a guy even asked for the controller that time too.
J/K.. no but seriously I doubt it. Wii hasn’t been getting as much hype as the PS3 and the 360. It’s more of a gimic than a next gen console.
Except the fact that you’re, you know, wrong.
The Wii release has been getting the most hype out of all three consoles, and definitely the most this year; just probably in outlets that you’re not used to. The Wii has been covered on standard news outlets, hyped on the internet, and even parodied on South Park.
The difference is, this won’t happen to the Wii because Nintendo always ensures there are enough consoles on release to satisfy demand, and if they sell out due to unforeseen sales (hello DS lite), they are always back on the shelves a fortnight later.
Ditto.
I hope it wont happen with Wii:-P
You probably wouldn’t even need a sledgehammer.

Wii is not nearly as muhch talked about as the PS3 or the 360.. i’m sorry.. even on G4..
PS3 and XBox 360 both had alot of issues around launch time…but if you look at the long road ahead…. the Wii will probably once again sink under the radar once the other two systems establish a greater library of overall "better" games. (by better .. I base that off of .. more games that adults or older teens would buy)
The same thing happend with the game cube. Cheaper, sleeker, smaller… with great games. It just .. didn’t hold up so well against the Xbox and PS2. It’s all about 3rd party support. Nintendo just .. can’t seem to get alot of it.

Well geez, it sure looks like the Wii has more third-party support to me.
I think the Wii is a great addition to the next gen lineup. But if you look at those games.. there isn’t ALOT to offer in terms of mature entertainment.
Call of Duty 3 is actually a port of a PC game as it was released on the PC before even the Xbox 360 title.. thanks. You can’t say alot of those games are PORTS from the 360. Mainly because had the PS3 been out at the time those games were released they would have been released to both systems simultaneously.
I look more down the road to see how a console will do. Not how it looks at launch. The capabilities of a gaming system, rather than what people see first generation.
Heavenly Sword
Final Fantasy XIII (both of em)
Metal Gear Solid 4
Resident Evil 5
God of War 3 (it’s already been confirmed that they are putting it on the PS3)
Gran Turismo 5
Kill Zone 2
All these games are what’s gonna keep the system alive and goin for a wider audience. I do not disagree with ANYONE that would say that the PS3 is not doing well so far. The price, limited availability, problems that are already arising…limited launch titles…I won’t argue, because it’s obvious to see. However.. what I was discussing was the lifespan of the three systems. As the past has shown….. I personally feel that the Nintendo Wii will fall under the radar first due to it’s .. lack luster game choices.
Nobody can predict the future, and you’re arrogant for thinking you can. The only judgment about third-party support can be made by looking at the current evidence, and the current evidence is that there are a large number of companies supporting the Wii.
I think the Wii is a great addition to the next gen lineup. But if you look at those games.. there isn’t ALOT to offer in terms of mature entertainment.
Most of the Wii games that are multi-platform also comprise the PS3 lineup as well. So, by your statement, you’re claiming that the PS3 doesn’t have a lot of offer in terms of ‘mature entertainment’ either; whatever you define that as.

You’re thinking of Call of Duty 2. Call of Duty 3 was specifically designed for the 360 due to CoD2’s popularity, and subsequently readied for the PS3’s launch. Once again, you’re making a statement that can’t be proven. I’m only interested in facts.
I look more down the road to see how a console will do. Not how it looks at launch. The capabilities of a gaming system, rather than what people see first generation.

I’m not going to disagree that the above games are a very good reason to own a PS3; but I thought we were talking about third party support. Four out of those seven games are being made in-house at Sony, Resident Evil 5 is being released on the X360 as well, which leaves MGS4 and FF13. And to be honest, they aren’t the sort of titles which will ‘widen the audience’. They appeal to current gamers, and that’s it.

You’ve yet to prove your claim of lackluster game choices, seeing as the system is debuting with the most eagerly awaited game in recent gaming history, Twilight Princess. Considering that Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess’ spiritual precursor, is considered the best game of all time by many, many gamers, one could argue that it is the best launch title in history.
You are basing your argument on the assumption that history will repeat itself, which is a foolish mistake. The PlayStation 3 is NOT the PlayStation 2, and the Wii is not the GameCube. If you actually can provide any solid facts to back up your opinion, please, reply. Otherwise don’t bother posting here again.

Well geez, it sure looks like the Wii has more third-party support to me.
Edited some minor parts for clarity.
Also:
[Squashed Rumors]
Sony is not trying to fuck gamers out of the used game market.
Please stop regurgitating this rumor. It only gives Games Radar more juice to make something else up as news.
Games will not cost you $100 apiece.
They’re $60 for most titles (and all first-party ones), just like 360 games. If you need proof, Sony’s own online store has a list of games for pre-order right now (http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_BrowseCatalog-Start?CategoryName=games_ps3&Dept=moviesmusic&INT=sstyle-ps3games-footer-preorder_ps3_games#). You can also giggle at the box art and shape.
You can still get full HD without HDMI
Both component and DVI will allow 1080p signals, the only catch is that Blu-ray movies will at some point (either at launch or a few years down the line) require HDMI output for full hi-def viewing. For games, your trusty PS2 component cables will work just fine — for that matter all PS2 cables will work. However, if you are using an HDMI cable, it needs to be connected to a HDCP-compliant device or you’ll get no video/audio. If your TV doesn’t support HDCP via HDMI, you’ll have to use one of the above-mentioned connections.
There are no overheating issues
Enclosing the thing in some kind of carpet tortilla aside, the PS3 not only runs nearly silent, but after having the system on for a good 10 hours, it was still cool to the touch on either side. The system does a wonderful job of shunting heat out all those little vents you see on the top/back (that, however, was quite warm). It’s almost scary how cool the system runs considering the kind of power it draws.
The PS3 does not upscale currently
Hey, not all squashed rumors have to be positive. As of launch, the PS3 sticks you with one output resolution for most games and downscales anything if you have it set higher. This means if you’ve got an older HDTV that’s locked at 1080i, and the game only outputs at 720p, you’re going to be playing games at 480p. DVDs and PS one/PS2 games also play at their standard resolution. It’s entirely possible that future firmware updates will fix this problem, but don’t say I didn’t warn ya…
EDIT: Good to know that when I’m at a friend’s house and they’re playing their PS3, I won’t go death due to the fan. I figured it would be as loud, or louder, than the 360’s.
GUYS, ITS ON G4, IT MUST BE RIGHT!!!1!
But anyway about that smashing PS3, umm yeeeeeaaah, for some reason if it takes 5 hits with a sledgehammer, it looks at least somewhat durable. People aren’t going to buy one to take it home and throw it against the wall.
In another town a woman buys a PS3 then is stocked by 2 men for 2 blocks where she is robbed.
The terrorist have finaly won. :notgood:
edit: oops.
hahaha
think of all the cheeseburgers they coulda bought instead of smashing up a poor PS3, oh the inhumanity. >=O
You probably wouldn’t even need a sledgehammer.
tru,very tru.
That dude’s sig was fantastic.
For the past couple of months the wii has been the most talked about. I think the ps3 is getting so much attention right now because its so hard to get one.
Nevermind the hype behind the games and the system capabilities. What does the Wii have to offer? A controller that can be doubled as a weapon? Now.. again.. I’m not BASHING THE WII!!! Just based on the mags that I read, the shows that I watch and the crap that I’ve read on the internet, the Wii hasn’t been getting as much attention.. COMPARED to the other two systems around launch time and before.
They’re Torontonians lol. They were doing it infront of a best buy downtown I think.
Don`t get me wrong, i love when things get smashed or bebungled but that was just embarrassing.
FIRST DUDE- "Dude, i just got a my PS3 dude!. What a pile of fucking lass ass douche shit, dude. Let`s get this motherfucking douche and trash the shit out of it!."
SECOND DUDE- "Dude, that`s like a fucking holy message or something, dude!. Fucking hell man, you`re fucking wesome, dude!."
FIRST DUDE- "Fuck yeah!’
SECOND DUDE- "Dude, Ken Kutaragi can suck my left fucking nut man, that motherfucking dumb ass noob douche!."
-_-

It was getting attention but its getting so much now because of the limited amount going around. Everytime I hear about it that is all thats metnioned, the lines and the amount being shipped. I dont hear to much buzz about any of the launch titles.
Besides, the PS3 six axis of movement controller is enough for me. I’m not planning on playing any tennis video games, thats what the tennis courts here at my appartments are for.
You think that the PS3 is getting so much attention because.. ok.. that’s the dumbest thing I’ve heard.
It does make logical sense, actually. Especially with those damn people out there intend on scalping it. This is one aspect that’s currently amplifying attention, because indeed, there is a dearth of them afloat in the world for the moment, alluring people for the next batch to arrive.
Either the guy is really weak or the PS3 is tough as fuck to take 5 hits with a sledgehammer before shattering.
Why would someone waste 500 dollars for a 30 second laugh. What dumbshits. I love how the dumbfucks who made this site keep little updates.
Nov 11th 2006 – 2am – The launch date is coming, and things seem very shaky at this point. For the moment, everything is according to plan, but it can change very quickly. Check back for more details!
The only thing I wonder about this is how these dumbasses manage to breathe.

What the fuck are you talking about? Everyone I talked to online and off are planning to get a Wii. Only a handful planned to get a PS3, and all of them are rich bastards who has no idea what to do with their money.
seriously…wtf?
Haha. "Even" on G4? You’re pretty amusing.
seriously…wtf?
They seem to be pretty neutral towards the companies themselves. They just hate the fanboys, so they wreck it in front of the launch lineup full of them to piss them off. Coupled with the fact that there’s only 2-4 PS3 units in the store makes it very much more painful for the fanboys because they’ll most likely have to search and pay 2-3 times more on EBay for the units.
…however, I agree with the notion that this’ll be the most expensive laugh they’ll ever get out of pissing off fanboys.
Truth.
…however, I agree with the notion that this’ll be the most expensive laugh they’ll ever get out of pissing off fanboys.
oooh. ok.. lol actually if that’s the case, that’s freaking hilarious! lol i seriously didn’t get it like that at all. rofl. that just rules. lol
Doesn’t change the fact that they were complete morons for doing it.
LOL LOOK AT THOSE STUPID FAN BOYS!!!11ONE
HEY GUYS LET’S GO BUY ONE AND SMASH IT IN FRONT OF THEM, LOLOLOLOL

Did those dumbasses even consider the outcome? Say i’m a fanboy waiting in line for a PS3 and some dumbass takes his and smashes with a sledge hammer. Who gives a shit? I’m still getting mine.
It can potentially enrage them, as that means minus one (Two, as the irate commentator mentioned they were going to ‘Ebay’ their second unit.) PS3 going to a customer whom is resolute on playing it. Essentially, they’re subtracting the supply from people that are awaiting it, undermining their determination, and forcing them to purchase one elsewhere.
That won’t work if there’s only 2 units on the store and the other unit is going to eBay for double-triple the price. ๐
Oh, in that case. Those bastards!
I saw the line today at Best buy… there were more people lined up to get Final Fantasy XII than there were there to get the Wii.. same with gamestop and at walmart.. I kinda laughed considering the PS3 and Xbox had hundreds of people lined up.. people lined up even KNOWING they won’t get a system. lol

With the Nintendo Wii in my area, there were roughly 100 people by eventide. (Told to me when I asked the manager keeping count at the end.) There were five people camped, in addition. I, amongst them, was number 18, as I got there at 1:00P.M. The ratio of Nintendo Wiis (63) were inadequate, however, greatly surpassed the ratio of PS3’s available. (On release, a nearby Gamestop got 8, a Target, 6, whereas the Wal-Mart where I was situated, only had 20. Whether they were the 20 or 40 GB models, or combined, I’m unsure.) The first 63 people, were given a ticket, guaranteeing a purchase. Then, the 63 ticket holders proceeded inside to purchase the Wiis. The rest were probably informed when the shipment of Wiis were due to arrive, and I would presume that the number of Wiis will definitely be higher. The attitude of the queue waiting until 12:01, was overall, peaceful, and the only real disturbance was that someone tried cutting in line towards the end, aside from nagging Sony or Xbox fan boys sporadically driving by and heckling the line with baseless insults. To ensue safety after purchasing the Wiis, we all headed out in a group by suggestion of the store manager, and then parceled out to our cars. I am glad to say that everything worked out with minimal trouble, and the majority of buyers obtained their Wiis.

Uh, yeah sure. More people were lined up to get a game that’s nearing a month of being on the shelves, compared to a console that is recieving an incredible amount of hype. Riiiiight.
Actually it was through donations.
OF COURSE THIS COULD BE BECAUSE I WENT TO KFC AND VONS, BUT REALLY I DON’T THINK THAT’S THE REASON
Uhm.. yeah actually. There WERE more people at the FFXII midnight launch here in San Jose than what I saw at Best Buy, Wal-Mart and Gamestop in Vacaville (not all together of course). This was the next morning though, so I don’t know if these stores participated in any midnight sales. That was only three stores that I observed. I was just surprised I didn’t see more people.
Look.. I’m not DOUBTING the Wii. OMFG! Yes you’re absolutely right that the availability of the Wii was greater than what was available for the PS3.. I don’t doubt that. Nor will I say that the PS3 is a perfect system or just overall SOOOO much better than the PS3 or the 360. Based on my observations, reading and viewing.. the Wii wasn’t as talked about as the other systems. No one got shot over the Wii… no one got stampeded over the Wii.. that’s all I’m sayin.
Again.. the only reason why I personally wouldn’t want to buy it is because of the controller.. i just don’t like it.
Believe me.. I was tempted to try to get it myself seeing Zelda sitting there. hehe… I love the Zelda series.
Wal-Mart, Target and Best Buy did participate in midnight sales, as I heard from other people whom came from there, and that said that the lines were about if not longer to Wal-Mart’s. Those who came in the morning, probably were hoping for another shipment to arrive. Maybe it did, or maybe it didn’t. (Yes, I live in Vacaville.)
No one got shot over the Wii… no one got stampeded over the Wii.. that’s all I’m sayin.
That’s not meant to be good for the Sony’s reputation, you know. As the publics’ impatience is affixed to Sony’s lack of systems available, and delaying the release for two times. For extraneous causes that confounded the shortage futhermore: scalpers detracted from the supply, some stores didn’t have a ‘One console per customer’ ratio in effect, and some stores foolishly staged events to obtain a PS3, other than waiting in a line (A race to ten chairs, or a lottery.) Sony should have foreseen this, and it is appearing (If not already) Sony was definitely caught asleep.
More people were lined up to get a game that’s nearing a month of being on the shelves, compared to a console that is recieving an incredible amount of hype.
What the Professor is saying, is that there isn’t going to be people still waiting in a line for a game that’s already been out for a month, (And if there is, it’s utterly doubtful as it’s going to emulate the line waiting for a new system.) as you, Gilthanos, were implying. Now, as to whether or not the lines, compared to the Nintendo Wii’s and FFXII release date, were the same or not, is a different story.
BUT alas, I waited for the 360 to fix most of their bugs, and I’m gonna do the same for the PS3. Just wait a year for more titles to come out and let them fix the bugs in the mean time. THEN i’ll have my day with the system. ๐
I did not know that those stores participated in a midnight launch.. although it makes sense. Seeing people camped out there just made me think that there wasn’t one. At first I thought that they were out there waiting for PS3’s to come in.
The new Best Buy store near the Nut Tree did get new shipments in as most of everyone came out with a console.
Well no kidding that people still aren’t waiting in line for a game that’s been out for a month. I was talking about launch day. That’s what I was talking about. Not lines for the game RIGHT THIS MINUTE.. of course there are no lines. Jeezes.. i’m not THAT stupid.
Ha ha. I love how someone always asked about the controller regarding all three systems.
I guess they needed the sledgehammer after all. ๐
http://www.planetboredom.net/smx_videos.php – Xbox360. Only four smashes. =(
Shit dude, you made it sound like more people were lining up for FFXII than a Wii on WII LAUNCH DAY. But if you tell me that there were more people buying a Final Fantasy game on the launch of the Wii, I’ll say you’re full of shit.
Look.. I’m not DOUBTING the Wii. OMFG! Yes you’re absolutely right that the availability of the Wii was greater than what was available for the PS3.. I don’t doubt that. What the piss are you reading, Woman’s Digest?
Don’t base your judgments on people shooting each other. There was FAR LESS PS3 units at launch than Wii units, so that is why people were stampeding each other. When the Wii had roughly 5-6x more launch units than the PS3, people aren’t going to go bonkers and run over each other to get one.
Believe me.. I was tempted to try to get it myself seeing Zelda sitting there. hehe… I love the Zelda series.
Don’t be tempted, take action. Twilight Princess feels really natural with the controller. I feel like I’ve been using this type of control for years.
Pretty amusing, but not as effective as smashing a PS3 since stores are pretty much loaded with them Wiis. ๐

Yes there were much less PS3’s…
My wife wouldn’t let me get a Wii right now anyway.. even if I wanted one. (she’s not a gamer)
epic win
my buddy got a PS3 from work for free…when it kicks the bucket we’re gonna make a video of us pissing and defecating all over it in a mad attempt to improve on Sony’s bullshit
epic win
Holy shit, I hope my marriage will be as fucking awsome. good job. sexpot
epic win
My wife insisted we scour the town when I couldn’t get my Wii. Then when we got home, she helped me search eBay.
he’s a game tester…so he got to keep one of the consoles they used as a compliment to their checks
I’d be willing to bet that at least 50% of the people who purchased a PS3 turned around and sold it on ebay the next day.
EDIT: Lee, you poor bastard, having your woman do everything for you.
I’d be willing to bet that at least 50% of the people who purchased a PS3 turned around and sold it on ebay the next day.
Which is also why people were stomping on each other. It’s like they were yelling from the store, "FREE MONEY!!!". Totaly sucks for those who work hard and just want to enjoy a PS3 or Wii. People with the money to spend over a thousand dollars make it unfair for the rest of us.
Comedy Central is giving Wii’s out every hour all weekend long. I believe for the whole 4 day weekend.
I wouldn’t have minded if they had used a pickax instead of a sledgehammer. =)
i would’ve jizzed in it and sold it on eBay as like-new
Id fit a poison snake in the disc drive then sell it on eBay,lol. Someone would have a bad day.
yeah…that someone would be the snake
… have!
lol ;-;
Actually it was through donations.
i already said! … nobody noticed. i dont see smashing it as particularly funny, but it isnt especially dumb either. eh. actually, it is a BIT funny,
Is sony a little arrogant for not having more launch games, more consoles for launch, and alleged (again, alleged) problems at launch? Absolutely. I think sony has gotten cocky with it’s success. But do I see it sinking? In all probablity, I don’t. I think with the reverse compatability of all PS1 and PS2 games, the fact it can play CDs and DVDs along with the great Blu-Ray (which certain ones can hold up to 200 GB). Additionally, the sales indicate they are in high demand, especially ebay where people are willing to pay outrageous prices. I think it’s going to lag behind for a while because of the reasons I listed and the price, but once more games start coming out, the alleged bugs are fixed, and the off possibility of a price drop after a year, I see Sony doing very well for itself.

Actually, I’ve been noticing that PS3 on eBay are only selling at about $1,000-1500 lately. I guess all the people who actually wanted one got one ๐
But time will tell and there will are a lot of variables in these sort of things. Also consider the fact that PlayStation does have a pretty large brand recognition thing going on. I am reluctant to give Sony my custom these day, however.
