Wii Remote Related Help

Like the title says, I need a little help. I got my Wii, set up the internet, played Wii Sports, created a few Miis and then my controller fucked up. I’m gonna try to put this as coherently as possible, but try to bear with me. I’ll put this as simply as possible.

I started playing Wii Sports. I had already played it before and the remote worked like a charm. When I got in there, there weren’t any problems. I selected my character, picked the conditions of the tennis game and got ready to play. The game started. I was the server. I hit the A button. The ball was tossed above my character, and then I was supposed to hit it. I swung the remote, but nothing happened I tried all five of the games, but it was the same. All of the buttons work, but the sensor didn’t seem to pick up that the controller was moving. The weird thing is that the remote worked perfectly on the Wii menu screen, but would not work with the game. I tried synchronizing and re-synchronizing. I turned off the system, changed batteries, and fiddled with the position of and sensitivity of the Sensor Bar.

Any ideas as to what I might be able to do fix this (apart from going to Nintendo)?

Are you playing in a dark room? I know light rays from other things can mess with the system. But that is weird that it works on the menu but not in the game. If that doesn’t work, I’m sorry I don’t know what else it would be.

Bullshit. There have been very few problems reported with the console (mostly relating to updates), and absolutely none I’ve heard of that fit this description.

The sensor bar can’t possibly be the problem since its only function is to serve as a marker to let the remotes know where the tv is. If the pointer worked on the menu, then the bar is a-okay. Also, if the pointer continued to work on the menu screen after the problem started, then it isn’t a problem with the controller either.

As for what the actual problem might be, however, I have no clue. When you say you turned off the system, do you mean that you simply pressed the power button on the unit or actually unplugged the power cord. If you didn’t unplug it, do so. Also, be sure to eject the disc before that if it’s still in there.

Does it work for everything else but serving in tennis? Because that’s what it sounds like. Are you sure you’re timing it correctly? All of the Wii Sports games sans bowling have a tendency to be unresponsive at weird times.

Also, the sensor bar does not do anything for Wii Sports, or for Excite Truck, or for any other game that only uses motion sensing and not an on-screen cursor/crosshair.

Actually every forum I post on features people posting about problems with their Wiis, and I’ve seen several people also say they have friends who had similar problems, have seen similar complaints on other boards, etc. Problems with systems always look like they are more than they actually are because the people who have them make noise, but in this case I think it is definitely safe to say there have been far more Wii problems than is normal with a Nintendo console.

That’s not especially surprising, though, since it’s so new in so many ways.

Make sure there aren’t any heat sources, those tend to confuse the Wii a bit. Also, try not swinging the Wiimote at Mach 2. 😛

EDIT: I’ve figured out the problem. The gyroscope is busted. It makes sense. The sensor bar and all still works, but that explains the reason Wii Sports wouldn’t work.

I feel sorry for you. I can’t help with this problem since my WII works perfectly.

Have you read most of what those problems they are having with the Wii are? I know the only problem I’ve had with it is when I try to access the Wii Shop, and the same error code message comes up about half the time I get on there. I’d be willing to bet the majority of the problems are this same error code.

Shit, I don’t remember the exact number, but I think it’s like 207 or something. I know it has six digits and starts with two though. It always happens when it says ‘connecting to wii shop channel’, which is one step away from being there. It tells me to try again or try later.

It could be the Wii Sports Disc itself. Mine broke where it turns black and freezes after you select your Mii. Nintendo is sending a free Wii Sports to me with no shipping, so try calling them, best customer service ever.

I’m pretty sure he solved this problem 10 months ago, like shortly after it happened.

I was going to suggest that he possibly had set his Mii to play the opposite handedness (left handed instead of right), but I guess if it wasn’t swinging at all.
