I’m not sure what to really say about this.
I personally thing that’s stupid. I don’t think that those people should have gotten fired. Fucking moron holding her pee and dying from it.. THAT’S FUCKING COMMON SENSE!! I couldn’t imagine the level of discomfort that would have been. I can’t even wake up in the morning without taking a leak. But some moron is gonna hold her pee THAT long and die from it just for a stupid gaming console? LAME!! It was her choice to do it… no one else should get punished for it. No one held a gun to her head and told her not to take a leak. Her choice.. CONGRATULATIONS!!! YOU JUST WON THE DARWIN AWARD!
Putting humor ina rather sad thread…Nice 😛
$600 > $250
Even though I wouldn’t do it, I’d much rather hold my piss for something of more value.

People deserved to lose their jobs over this. When health concerns were brought up, they turned a blind eye to it, and just used the ‘well we are just having fun’ excuse.
I’ll give 250 dollars to anyone who can jump off of hoover dam and survive…
GO!!!!
so you’re telling me if some stupid mofo goes and does this.. that.. I’m responsible? I don’t think so. Again.. no one FORCED her to do this. EEEEEVERYONE could have just as easily said.. man.. that’s lame and not to mention.. unhealthy. Oh well, there’s got to be another way to get a Wii. I’m trying to get one right now, but you don’t see me doing something completely retarded in the effort.
In many cases, people don’t know that things can be harmful to them. Look at smoking, for example. For centuries, no one knew that smoking caused cancer. If that woman didn’t know that holding urine for a long time could be unhealthy (and don’t discount that just because you happen to know it), how could she possibly be aware of the danger? And you say that people could have told her? Then does that make it their fault that they didn’t? In that case, you agree with me completely because the people with the greatest obligation to let people know about health risks are the people running the fucking contest.

It’s only labeled as completely retarded when someone dies or gets injured from doing it. I bet if this woman won the Wii, and no one participating suffered any injuries, there wouldn’t be a single person saying that it’s stupid to do something like this. But when something bad happens, that’s when people start talking about it. It’s either retarded to begin with, or isn’t; it doesn’t become so because a woman died.
just sad imo. i don’t think she was stupid.
I’m not saying that the radio station had a brilliant idea, but no one was forced to compete. It was all free will.
But then again you never know what the exact details are. It mainly depends on the exact text of the waiver that the contestants signed.
Radio station people were kinda dumb… but … it was an event that was approved by officials and it was still her choice to compete in this lame event. If i was offered to do it.. I’d have to pass.

I never knew that drinking a lot of water can cause you to get sick or die, but then again I never really thought about it.
x 2
its not like you can gain expierence in dying..
tragic case, like most people(i guess) i didnt knew shit like this could end up that bad
heard she had 3 kids aswel so thats really fuckedup
Oh the guilt.
Looks like someone failed Biology class! 😛
That also goes back to her knowledge about her health. I acknowledge what you are saying though. Nintendo Wii is not worth that kind of physical suffering.
I meant that the kids must feel pretty crappy that their mom died for them.
its not like you can gain expierence in dying..
No, but she must have, at least, been in alot of discomfort. At that point, she could have stopped.
Paralysis caused when the potassium and sodium ion channels from the nerves to the muscle gets too diluted to function properly. Asphyxiation is a probable cause, but judging by her pain, I’d say cardiac arrest.
Does 10 people losing their job = a human soul?
Does 10 people losing their job = a human soul?
No, but I think they had to fire a few extra to keep the family satisfied.
Nevertheless, her kids would probably grow up thinking their mom was either horribly stupid or clinically insane for doing such a thing to her own body.

See the above article… A case that was exactly identical to this happened in a fraternity about two years ago. Instead of forcing pledges to drink endless amounts of alcohol, which clearly shows signs of sickening you/possibly killing you, they thought that using water would be safer, but still just as challenging. …not to mention just as fucking idiotic, but that’s beside the point. This case actually got a law passed that said if your greek organization was caught hazing, the president and the pledge brother/sister educators can be arrested and put in jail.
Now, this was a widely known case, at least in the world of greeks and most college students. If the radio station had decided to do any sort of research, they might have come across this. Let’s not forget that the article said a nurse called into the station, warning them that the contest would be potentially life threatening. Those at the radio station are responsible for this woman’s death. There were warning signs that they neglected to heed.
I’m not saying that Mrs. Strange (whatever her name is) isn’t at fault, but highly doubt water intoxication is common knowledge. As with most things, people just dont’ know their limits. If she saw the other contestants didn’t look like they were about keel over, maybe she convinced herself she was simply exaggerating her own discomfort?

Ethyl alcohol is a known poison.
And too much of anything is bad for you, and too much of things that are bad for you can kill you.
Mrs. Strange was at fault for her own death, since she clearly payed no heed to her bodily limits and voluntarily participated in such a crude stunt to the point of death.
Yes, which is why the radio officials should have relayed the nurse’s warning to the contestants when she called the station. No one can say if that would have made people stand up and leave, but at least feed people the proper information when you’re in the charge of an event. It’s called covering your ass and the radio officials didn’t try to do that until after the fact.
Negligance doesn’t equal innocence.
This woman drank 2 gallons of water.
idiot….
I am going to put into a really lame analogy.
It is like your friend daring you to do something totally stupid like go hit that guy in the face. If you follow through with it, that guy will come after you because the onus is on you to face consequence.
Sorry if that made no sense whatsoever.
I have never read a news story (actual or made-up) like that before. I guess it just goes to show you that the truth is often stranger then fiction, very sad indeed.
I feel sorry for the person that died, yet… it was their own fault.
-_-;;
It’s so hard for me to take death seriously -_-;;
(resists temptation to make stupid comment)

Great. Another stupid teen shitting things up.
Might not be a teen, I once met a 30 year old who was the most childish and immature person I’ve ever known. Age sometimes doesn’t define maturity sadly.
Ok, i said i was sorry for the person that died, although it was their own fault.
If you ask me that’s gotta be the most idiotic person I’ve ever heard of.
Although those competition holders come close.
Our generation has been desensitized to violence and death. For some reason a majority of our generation can’t take death seriously. Maybe coz of the movies or video games or just how we grew up, but in the end it’s not our fault. I tried taking it seriously, but i just couldn’t, so give me a break.
Ditto.
And I sincerely hope that the majority of you never, EVER have to be in charge of any kind of event. Only God knows what kinds of tragedies would occur. Yes, she was foolish for drinking that much water, but the radio station cannot just wash their hands of it. It’s frightening to see how many posters believe she is at fault and that’s all there is to the story.
I feel sincerity for the kids she left behind of course, but I’m not going to feel bad for someone who delayed a natural process of life until she died for pure insanity. Look at it this way she tried to get her kids a Wii, and got them a funeral and a life filled with remorse. And I hold her kids accountable to some point either she was one awesome mom, or they drove her into eroding her bladder. Those kids wanted a Wii so badly, no they have no mom, they need to get their priorities in order, all things will come in time, rushing them just causes inevitable pain.
1. The majority of my generation 😛 (Apparently known as generation Y (or ‘why?’ as some people say))
2. I’m 16
3.
Adjective: Desensitized
a) Make less sensitive
"desensitized to the allergen"; "desensitized photographic film is less sensitive to light"
b) Rendered emotionally insensitive
"a desensitized public indifferent to the violence in films"
4. I mean we as in my generation
5. And yes I believe there have been studies to prove this, and no i can’t give you any links, quotes or any sort of confirmation of this. I’m not even positive if there were studies, I’m just using what i was told by several people (Including my parents who watch the news and read the newspaper etc.). Also, I find when i speak about death to most of my peers, they either find it funny, or don’t really care.
And the local sheriff claimed that there were no grounds on which to press charges… sounds like the event planners already had their bribes paid out.
However, even if, by some technicality the state has no grounds on which to press charges, Nintendo does have grounds to sue.
meh… after hearing the audio tape of what the radio guys were saying, yeah they were morons. But .. them being total ass clowns doesn’t excuse the chick that died from this in the first place.
