Anyways sorry i drifted there:
now for argument sake lets say that squall has 255 str base ive found out that with the lion heart equipped it doenst seem to do max damage
if how ever i downgrade to lets say flame sabre – 9999 all the time.
basicly what im saying , with the lion heart + high str = less dmg .
i have tested this out by manually changing my str to 150 and using the lion hart and im always hitting 9999’s
im so convinced about this that i would actually play the game with the flame sabre as i think its the best looking blade ( arguments arising here i can tell…) but lion heart limit break is too cool to go without.
so is this an official bug or is it just me…?
Ill post up in a day or two with more direct information.

I believe that having the Lionheart equipped in fact lowers the amount of damage with a Max str.
To prove or not prove this i have decided that the evidence shall be gained by using an ochy because these monsters have a fairly decent amount of health and mainly defense.
variables are as follows:
Str = 255
base Str = 171
10 attacks shall be done with and without the use of the trigger.
No elemental or status magic’s shall be equiped upon attack.
Results using 225 Str
LionHeart Flame Sabre because FS looks cool ๐

If you would like me to look into this again but this time using my base 171 str just ask.
i’ve attached the file i used.
Of cause in NORMAL situations i would cast meltdown.
i don’t want to seem big headed or anything but i really do consider my self an extremely experienced player when it comes down to Final Fantasy VIII.
Anyways cheers for confirming that this may just be my version of Final Fantasy on the PC.
==================
just though ill give people heads up on this file below if people want to download it.
the idea of this file is to only kill Omega with Rinoa!
Its possible I’ve done it, of cause i use squall and Irvine, in this case, as healers and so on. NO HOLY WARS or of the like are used; I’ve left item on squall for the sole purpose of Phoenix. I Though that people might like to have a go and ‘get’ how this is done using Rinoa only.
Warning this could be considered as a spoiler:
For those who just want to kill Omega for the sake of it but don’t know where to go: with the current party go left, in the next screen go down past the Green Switch point ( armory) you will now be in the library, you just keep heading down. when you are in the room where there is a flight of stairs don’t go up them, instead pull the rope on the left hand side of the screen, you will receive a message about you hearing monsters from far away, then go to the green switch point and switch to other party. Now you are with squall, head what appears to be north ( i believe its actually NW but ignore that) and walk through the doors into the clock tower, you will see omega right in front of you.
so thats 1: go left with Zell in the corridor; 2: head south until you meat a flight of steps; 3: pull rope to left of screen; 4: switch to other party; 5: launch your self at Omega inside the clock tower directly ahead of you.
have fun
Just remember that Rinoa will die first when you fight omega because she is not resilient to his lvl 5 death, if you cannot stand this just edit her level to 99 using… ( err help me here someone lol ) anyways , have fun have a laugh.

Edit — okay, you’re right, it does seem like there may be something to this. Do you have a version with Flame Sabre that I can test out?
Oh…
if you cannot stand this just edit her level to 99 using… ( err help me here someone lol )
Griever, maybe? That’s the only FFVIII savefile editor I know of.
You’re right there lol.
Umm i don’t quite understand what your asking me, i put two files in the slot 1 .zip one (save04 ) i used to test this thing out and two (save29) was to fight Omega which you can use to test the thing out aswell.
And about switching from lionheart to the flame sabre just use junk shop in my abilities list so just switch between the two like that ( on save file 04 anyways) i suppose you would edit your items on the omega file to test out with him though thats up to you ( also you may have to kill one of ultimecia’s servants to unlock the ability command – i think its Tiamat not entirely sure.)
and thank you "Griever" was the editor i was thinking of, used it once with my girlfriends save file so i cold put 100 blind on squall to kill off diablos hehe, anyways.
Good luck with it
Ciao
You can, Agent. I tried this out on my console save yesterday. I noticed the same thing. With Lionheart I’m hitting for about 7000 w/Trigger. I’m lvl 100 and have 255 Strength, of course. When I downgraded, my damage went up. So it would seem to happen on PSX as well–as one of M3’s friends has reported.
Perhaps there’s a third variable that isn’t being taken into account. We could compare all of Squall’s stats. Just a thought.
the files i posted are not my best set of game play you will ever see but they are fairly decent, and ive noticed this on many different save files as i usual get the lionheart in disk one anyways.
It shouldn’t be his Stats though they would except for attack stay the same and if you downgrade they attack should go down not up. The only thing I can think of is a glitch I heard about a long time ago for Super Nes what happened is if you Maxed your STR and had the most powerful weapon the game couldn’t calculate the damage right and you would get a lower number then if you had a slightly weaker weapon. It was for FFII-IV- I think I know it was a FF game but I don’t really rememeber which one.
Also For the PSX version I never noticed any thing like this before but I also didn’t put much thought into it since it wasn’t like past FFs where you had a lot of possible weapon choices and I never really studied it too much like I did with FFVI to find the best weapons because of the slim pickings.
As for a Possibilty are you fighting the same Monster like a control say Omega or some other boss monster? If you aren’t please post what you haven’t killed yet so we can set a base for the damage with the 2 weapons then begin to slowly work down the chain because their has to be a reason behind it.
Oh wait did you by any chance USE the spells linked to your STR? If you did it could lower the Damage rate and give the illusion on a weaker weapon.
And trust me i know exactly what i am talking about, i know this is what is happening on my game, im wondering weather this applies to all versions as there were multiple copies of the PC version, let alone the versions for the PS1.
Kind regards…

So lets state what you have used it on just to make sure. All attacks on Ochu, no Elm or staus affects added, you used Trigger for both, and you found that Lionnheart does less damage then Flame saber. Is that right so far?
The only difference that can be a possibility is the Monster levels Some Monsters are higher or weaker then the characters. So it is possible for you to have run into a stronger monster while Lionheart and a weaker with Flame saber. HMM but I think you said you were Max level somewhere.
Hmm intresting without the Pc version I really can’t figure it out. Nor find what is causing it.
I Dug out my copy of FFVIII PSX and removed my status and elms and I was doing 9999 damage on a cougar -the cat things outside ester that do Blaster-
and did 7000 roughly with Flame Saber.
2 = Avg for lionheart with the trigger
3 = Avg for Flame Sabre without the trigger
4 = Avg for Flame Sabre with the trigger
1) 4767
2) 7126
3) 4712
4) 7410 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< notice this people
im basically saying this is weird cause i did notice this before previously but i decided to ask if any1 else had noticed this.
see now the thing is with my psx version i always remmebr doing 9999 dmg no matter what … ok fine between 9000 and 9999 but with the pc version its never been like that and its just odd!
unfortunately i cant test with psx because all my save files are of NTSC an i now have the PAL version of the game so i cannot read them.
๐ oh well
