This has been highly requested over the years, so me and Magusstorm decided to work on a complete rip. Magusstorm was mainly responsible for creating the tracklist, without his expertise and knowledge of the game this rip would not have been possible. Huge thanks go to him.
Hope everyone enjoys the rip.

–____– Im too late.
–____– Im too late.
Yeah, me too.
I also waited so long for this soundtrack…
I also waited so long for this soundtrack…
Yeah, because there isnt a official or original soundtrack. -_-
Ditto for me as well… I just saw this thread listed on the front page today, and went "Woohoo!" I’d long ago given up hope on ever finding this soundtrack, and here it was.
Unfortunately, as the rest of you, I found this thread too late as well.
Thalin… If at all possible, I would very much appreciate a reuploading of the files to make them available for those of us who unfortunately missed it the first time around. (Judging by the several postings just from today, it looks like many other folks would be most appreciative of this as well!)
I would also like to say that I’m definitely interested in a rip of SUMMONER 2 as well. (Any idea if the subsequent GameCube port — SUMMONER: A GODDESS REBORN — retained the same score as the PS2 edition, or did if include any new/different cues?)
In any event Thalin, many thanks for taking the time to do this rip of SUMMONER, and many thanks in advance for SUMMONER 2 (should you decide to do it, of course…)!
I also hope you are able to put SUMMONER back up there for those of us who missed it earlier.
Regards to all…
Thaaaank you! You’re great! *hug*
Thalin… many many thanks for the repost! Words cannot even begin to express my gratitude for your efforts on doing this.
I sincerely hope you’ll undertake SUMMONER 2/SUMMONER: A GODDESS REBORN someday…
Thanks again!
Thalin can you please by any chance by kind enough to re upload it again? Pretty please?
I soo so want this so badly >,<
Could someone reupload? Please?
I’ve searched and I’ve searched everywhere. If I get the tracks I can post them up on my website, and share them via Limewire. I’d be only too happy, as I believe the world needs to be awakened in regards to this wonderful, inspiring, fantastic music by Scott Lee. I even emailed the guy a while back, but he reckons he hasn’t got it any longer. I can’t believe it, but he only ever posted about seven tracks on his website – a website which doesn’t seem to exist anymore, btw.
Please Thalin. From a genuine fanatic that owns the original game, and wants to be able to play the music everywhere… not just on a tv.
XD
The soundtrack needs to be online 24/7, 7 days a week. Glory be to the person that makes this possible. My eternal gratitude and undying worship too, if need be…
By the way, is this a rip from the PC version? Although I know that (from Mobygames), the PC version is "a complete conversion (with a few improvements) of the PS2 title of the same name", I’m just curious about it. Thanks again for the rip. Looking forward to listening to it when my download is complete!
I am sure many others aside from myself would love to see the second games OST as well.
I leave Limewire on whenever I’m on the computer now. This is really just for when the upload no longer works, and to keep a copy of it available elsewhere. It may also be handy for people after only selected tracks (my favourites are Jade Temple, End Credits, Masad, Machival Battle), but do not want to download the whole lot to get them.
Signing out,
Malphregor
*sigh*
Would be super mega hyper appreciative if this gets another upload 🙂
I’ll upload it on my Rapidshare premium account when i’ve downloaded it so it wont get deleted.

A lot of us often wonder these same things. I’ll just leave it at that… :-\
Either that or they’re enchanted by the music – Place your bets 😉
Still though, it’s a soundtrack very well worth a listen (for those who haven’t heard it) – Been after it for ages, so thank you 🙂
But say, are there any plans to rip the music of "Summoner 2"? Would be so cool. I own the game myself, but sadly I don’t know how to rip music out of it.
I’ve tried to rip the music of Summoner 2 by myself but was unsuccessful.
First I used a typical PS2 sound rip programm (MFAudio) and opend the music.vpp. But the sound was very choppy and it seemed, that not all music was included (the big part was fighting sound).
Then there is a VPP Builder for games like Red Faction and Summoner, unfortunately it can’t open the Summoner 2 vpp files.
I contacted the programmer, but got no response since today.
It’s no problem to open the videos and extract the music, but that’s not nearly enough. I even coudn’t find the credits for the Halassar theme.
That’s so depressing.:(
I’m so happy to finally get my hands on this one, that I decided to upload a quite rare Preview Video Track I converted some time ago:
Preview Video Music (http://massmirror.com/2bbdc010d61aa259873f3daecff6a7c3.html)
Hope, that adds nicely to the wonderful rip Thalin has brought us here! =)
They offer some of the movies and more soundclips than the official Summoner 2 site for download.

=)
Any progress with the Summoner 2 rip?
I recorded the Credits theme via line-in and converted the file to mp3.
The quality is not high and there is no fading out at the end. The original music loops, so maybe I should shorten or lenghten it, I don’t know.
Anyway, here is the link (http://massmirror.com/293121a8918e6e069999b25836cdd784.html).

I went the same route with that track and most of the others. I also have the tracks from Volition’s site before they took it down. Palace theme, world map, hopiris, munari city, miridan’s pass, eye of the storm, tamirath citadel, trailer, intro, title screen, arena, and sharangir.
Have you already seen the music files from absolute-video-games.com (http://www.absolute-video-games.com/downloads/media/summoner_2/#audio)?
There you can get the themes of "Tomb of the Nhuvasarim", "The Realm of Twilight" and "Eleh Caverns".

Please, if possible, make a summoner 2 rip. Love that game too!

Hi Cloudyboy,
That’s one that I did tv rip while I was sitting in the palace. Is the track very different or just slightly? I wonder if the music changes a little depending on where you are in the story, because I was on a save file that was towards the end of the game.
That one and the world map music are the only variations that I know of for that theme, does anyone else have one?
Lemme know what you think guys, enjoy!
Cloudyboy.
Good find!
Good find!
It does remind me of ff7! Now you remind me of it Zephon I think it’s time to take the dust off the playstation 1, find the cables for it and a control pad, prepare to use the directional buttons and have a long awaited rerun of the best game ever created!!!
The music left a big impression on me. For Summoner 1 & Summoner 2, not many developers can come up with a good set of tracks that is both ambient, yet original.
Scott Lee, thank you for the good times.
And thank you for the rip, Thalin.

Thanks, but I was requesting the soundtrack to the sequel, Summoner 2. It looks like extraction from the .VPP for Summoner 2 has tripped up several people. Some folks have made progress on <a href = http://forums.ffshrine.org/f72/red-faction-ii-alpha23s-streamed-vgm-thread-81751/>this</a> thread.
Summoner 2 [Alpha23’s streamed VGM thread] (Thread 81996)
Summoner was the first PS2 RPG I played, while waiting for some JPN ones to get released. The graphics were memorable more for how bad they were 😛 but the game had a ton of great little details. And I didn’t notice the music on the first playthrough, but from the second on, it was a vital part of the game. Really reminds me of Trentemoller in some places, or maybe they just use some similar sounds.

Alright, folks. I have 3+ GB of Summoner&Summoner2 music data (nothing exclusive, just the stuff I managed to rip or find on the Web) – and since the links seem to be down, I decided to share it all here.
This post will cover the original Summoner. I don’t know if I’ll have the time OR patience to upload the music from sequel today as well, but rest assured I’ll share it here as soon as possible. Also, be sure to preserve these archives and to establish as many mirrors to this release (maybe even the torrent ones, like ThePirateBay and UndergroundGamer and whatnot) as possible, since I honestly don’t know IF I’ll have the patience to reupload ALL that stuff in case links go down.
AFTER I share the Summoner_2’s tracks here, I’ll make an announcement which would be extremely interesting for all the Summoner fans out here, but for now, that announcement will remain a little secret. If you happen to know, what particular event I’m most likely talking about right now, please don’t spoil it.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation – and enjoy!

Preliminary notes about the release:
1) The format used is APE (ADPCM/ADPCM_WAV -> PCM_WAV -> APE, so that not to lose quality; original sample rates are preserved). If you happen not to like that format – tough luck, as I don’t feel like reencoding all that stuff, sorry.
2) Original filenames are preserved.
3) The archives are NOT multipart. In order to successfully extract any given part you DON’T need any other parts.

First, we’ll cover the PS2 version of Summoner since it was released first.

That’s it for now! Take care!
As for the extra PS2 tracks, most of them are basically remixes of the already existing tracks. So my theory is that some of them are just discarded versions of some other tracks – and were just forgotten in the released version of the game by the developers.
You’re probably right and thanks for the great rip. Another advantage of the PS2 version is that with the help of an emulator it can be played on higher resolutions than 1024×768, something that is not possible (at least I think so) with the PC version.

Just wanted to give all of you a heads up about the current state of affairs. I AM currently working on THE second release. There are still some small issues to resolve (they do not concern the rips themselves, since I took those rips nearly a year ago), but all in all I’ll soon be ready to begin the upload.
Also, I nearly forgot, just how incredibly stylish the cutscenes in this game are (the image above doesn’t represent the really good stuff, but I’ll leave that to the release itself)!
P.S. Also, one anecdote concerning the release. Needed to mux a MPEG-2 video track with a lossless audio track today. Should be easy enough, right? Any muxer could do such a trick, right? WRONG. Wasted 4 or 5 hours investigating the damn issue. Thank God it’s finally over.
Sounds familiar (http://rghost.net/41922580)? 😉

Greetings once again! That sure took much longer than I originally anticipated.
This post will cover the soundtrack and extras for "Summoner 2". Before we begin though, I have a few words for those of you who loved the soundtrack to the first game, but haven’t played the sequel, haven’t heard its soundtrack and who are curious right now what it’s all about.
You see, Summoner 2 is a very, very, very weird game. And, to be perfectly clear on that one, when I say weird, I am talking about at least Planescape levels of weird out there. The first game, despite having absolutely brilliant soundtrack, felt a bit shallow, mish-mashed and maybe even a bit generic in places. In the second one though the developers seemed to go completely and utterly out of their way to make the game as unique and as capable of standing out on its own design-wise, as possible. And they also greatly and organically expanded the in-game mythology. And there is a much better game (you know, from a gameplay/fun perspective) out there too. But that’s not really the point.
What DOES constitute the point though, is that such magnificent accomplishments came at a price. You see, in order to convey a really weird atmosphere, one would generally need an accordingly weird soundtrack. And while soundtrack in Summoner 2 definitely explores some seriously new grounds and really does a lot for that unique feel of the game, I wouldn’t say it is as fully fleshed out as the soundtrack from the first game was. It serves a much more background role and it doesn’t really shine as brightly on its own as the soundtrack to the original Summoner did. Of course, there are still many ties to the Summoner’s music, and there are still glimpses and moments of pure brilliance here and there, but for all intents and purposes, S2’s soundtrack is just too busy being weird for the sake of being weird. It would be pretty interesting to see the motifs of the second Summoner being further developed and shaped into a more coherent whole in the third Summoner, but alas, Summoner 3 just never happened. To be completely honest though, the game DOES have that one track… but we’ll discuss it a bit further along the way.
I also have a pretty embarrassing confession to make. I never finished Summoner 2. This has nothing to do with the quality of the game (I DID enjoy the game immensely), but it just so happens, that (as of this moment) I have absolutely no idea about the stuff happening in the second half of the game.UPDATE: This is no longer true. I finished the game in January. The ending level was absolutely awesome in terms of story pacing, and overall, this game is one of the best (if not the best) h&s RPGs I’ve ever played.
But enough of that talk! Onto the rip itself!
As with the previous rip, the format of audio files (except for those in extras) is APE (ADPCM -> PCM_WAV -> APE). The sampling rates are also preserved everywhere. There are some exceptions to the "original filenames only" rule – in that case any "non-canon" additions are contained inside the [brackets]. Archives are NOT multi-part once again, so in order to extract any given part, you won’t need any other parts. And yes, 10% recovery record everywhere, unless stated otherwise.
The PS2 is once again the first version to go.

One interesting thing about the game is that you had your own palace there. That’s right, an entire palace, with its secrets, different people and an ability to make all sorts of decisions about all matters political (well, all of that – in a pretty simplified manner, but still…). In the palace, there was court musician, called Falin, who played an instrument, named "bodril". Now, during your journeys, you could find some sheet music of different compositions written specifically for bodril. You could turn those compositions to Falin – and in return he would perform a new tune for you (via a short cutscene). To tell you the truth, I completely forgot about those little pieces of music, but thankfully ShardofTruth (http://forums.ffshrine.org/members/shardoftruth-226229) managed to remind me about them just in time. As it happens, there are 10 bodril songs in the game, BUT, while Gamecube version contains those exact 10 tunes, the PS2 version in fact contains 11 of those pieces (11th one being the shortest and seemingly not used anywhere in the game; it’s designated with zero – you’ll see what I’m talking about – in the archive).
Now, I DIDN’T manage to "crack" the format these songs were in Gamecube version. But I DID manage to successfully extract and decode all 11 songs from the PS2 version (and it wasn’t pretty; also, naturally, those bodril songs are also included in the PS2 version release – see above). Now, there is a bit of clipping, which originates from either the source files or the MFAudio, but it isn’t so bad.
So, here are all the bodril songs from the game (11 tracks from PS2 version + source files from both PS2 and NGC version; 32 files, 7 MB total):
Mediafire (http://www.mediafire.com/?oec0rwfx1namsjf) | Multiupload (http://www.multiupload.nl/A02ABSD2OJ)
Now, to the differences between the PS2 and NGC music releases above. First, as I’ve already said, NGC release doesn’t contain the bodril songs.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Second, it’s really weird, but I wasn’t able to locate the Arena track in the PS2 version of the game. It IS where it’s supposed to be in the NGC version though.
So, here is the Arena track specifically (NGC version, NOT contained in the PS2 release above, 16 MB total):
Mediafire (http://www.mediafire.com/?2kcm007k7fcfbar) | Multiupload (http://www.multiupload.nl/PAHLOJ5FGB)
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
At the same time, PS2 version contains one track that is missing from the NGC version: teomura-intro.
So, here is this specific track (PS2 version, NOT contained in the NGC release above, 2 MB total):

Now, to some shiny audio extras.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
First, the complete audio rip from Summoner2 page on absolute-video-games (http://anonym.to/?http://www.absolute-video-games.com/album/9/summoner-2-soundtrack); it’s in AAC (AC3) format and pretty LQ though (31 tracks, 45 MB total):
Mediafire (http://www.mediafire.com/?7q28vhxwuotk7e0) | Multiupload (http://www.multiupload.nl/JJJ9ULB0Z7)
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Second, here are some promo tracks (16 tracks, 62 MB total):
Mediafire (http://www.mediafire.com/?e1xntag5lrlm725) | Multiupload (http://www.multiupload.nl/50PBX9BEZB)
And now – to the shiniest of all extras. The prerendered videos from the game. Summoner 2 greatly improved upon the "hand-drawn" cutscenes of the original and managed to crank up some of the most mindblowingly stylish 2D (or pseudo-2D) cutscenes I’ve seen in any game ever (could be longer and more numerous though). Some of that can be seen on the images which supplement this release. Still, I think those videos truly deserve to be seen in a really good (as in "original") quality – so here you go. In both PS2 and NGC releases, hard-subbed videos take (almost) exactly as much space as non-subbed ones, so in order to have a little better quality on imagery, you should probably go with the non-subbed pack.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
PS2 version of the game. The original files were PSS containers with M2V (MPEG2) video track and SS2 (PS2 PCM) audio track. I left the video stream untouched, reencoded audio track into LPCM (with the identical sample rate) and fused them into MPG (MPEG2) file. Intro (which doesn’t have any speech and, thus, subtitles) is present in both non-subbed and hard-subbed packs.

UPDATE: It appears I forgot to include a couple of PS2 cutscenes, namely, EBD (plays after you destroy the parasite in Eleh), PATTRACT (the official teaser/trailer – it’s absolutely kickass, by the way) and PLOGOS (animated logotypes of THQ and Volition). Neither of them has subtitles.
So, here they are (3 videos, 103 MB total):

NGC version of the game. The videos were originally in BIK (BINK) format, so I didn’t touch them. In order to view them, you’ll need RAD Video Tools from here (http://anonym.to/?http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm). All the files, that don’t have speech (and, thus, subtitles) are included both in non-subbed and hard-subbed packs. Oh, and since the NGC port was handled by a third-party developer studio (named "Cranky Pants", believe it or not), Maia (the main heroine) ended up being heavily remodelled. And, frankly, I don’t like the remodelled version at all. Actually, I would really advise you to watch the PS2 versions of those videos – but for the completion’s sake, here you go.

All of that leaves only one more issue to cover. A small one, seemingly insignificant really.
You see, in the very beginning of this post I mentioned there was one specific track in this game. One very, very special track, one that could easily match even the most memorable tracks from the first Summoner game, one that is undeniably the best in the entire game and one I love about this game the most. One track that really proves Summoner 2 to be first and foremost the Summoner game.
Of course, I’m talking about Halassar palace theme.
I took the liberty to compile all the instances of this track (and its variations) from all the previous packs posted above into a standalone archive (8 tracks, 78 MB total):
Mediafire (http://www.mediafire.com/?1m6fsr5iyp3c30c) | Multiupload (http://www.multiupload.nl/USERPO9BVQ)
So, yes, by all means, enjoy this magnificent theme in any form you happen to find the best or most appropriate. For me personally, the best one quality-wise is the 44.1 kHz version from the PS2 release, named "s2_mx_halassar_level" (NGC version has sampling rate of 48 kHz, but if memory serves me right, the size of original ADPCM in the PS2 version was bigger than in NGC version), though you are welcome to disagree with me on that matter. And consider this specific archive to be the token of my deepest admiration to this specific track, to the entire game, to all of its development team in general and to its composing team in particular.
And, now, THAT would truly be all. Enjoy!
Despite having worse models for Maia and Taurgis and low resolution movies (and missing "Visit Teomura" one) the NGC version is definitely something to look at. Most textures get an overhaul and there is much better lighting and shadows, on top of that it’s possible to play this version in 16:9 with the Dolphin emulator. Another interesting tidbit is that only in the English speaking PS2 versions of the game the "Hall of Blasphemers" easter egg can be found, in every other version it’s cut and I haven’t been able to restore it.
For me Summoner 2 is one of the best RPGs ever made, I played through the game numerous times and (in contrast to the majority of the internet) I like the turn it took with the lore of the original Summoner.
I personally like the first game better btw, i never really like the fact they changed the combat mechanics in the second one.. it became so repetitive :/ never ended up finishing it either due to this.
Okay, so probably all of you know that Scott Lee was one of the main composers for the first Summoner, right? Now, he has a Youtube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/Dezacrator).
What happened not so long ago – is that he started sharing (on that channel) some very interesting materials and trivia on the projects he worked on. Including some materials on the first Summoner.
Now, for example, here is a surprisingly good unreleased Summoner track, named "Shadows" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEFSNigotNI). And here is the original cut of the track from Iona Catacombs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyUSAwQ1-F8).
Sure, currently, there is not all that much Summoner stuff there, but Scott wrote that he intends to share even more stuff eventually.
So, yeah, that’s the announcement I was talking about. Hopefully, it will get seen by as many Summoner fans out here as possible.
This Shadows track is awesome, I can’t wait to hear what else he releases.
Thanks on all accounts 🙂
Here’s an image of 15 tracks from the Summoner 1 PC rip compared to the same 15 tracks from the PS2 rip:
As you can see, the 15 tracks from the PS2 rip is 10 seconds less. They don’t loop well at all. What’s up with that?
Okay, here is the deal:
I extracted original ADPCMs from .VPP pack in the PS2 version of "Summoner 1" using RFkit. They were converted to PCM WAV using either "MFAudio" or "Cube Media Player".
I extracted original ADPCMs from .VPP pack in the PC version of "Summoner 1" using RFkit. They were converted to PCM WAV using… SoX, if I recall correctly?
I extracted original ADPCMs from .VPP pack in the PS2 version of "Summoner 2" manually, by hand, using hex editor. They were converted to PCM WAV using MFAudio/Cube.
I extracted original ADPCMs from the NGC version of "Summoner 2" using Cubeway+. They were converted to PCM WAV using VGMstream.
Now, since the tracks from PS2 versions of both Summoners feature the exact same cut-offs, while differing in the extraction method (RFkit in "Summoner 1", manual extraction in "Summoner 2") – it’s probably a MFAudio/Cube’s fault/bug/glitch. It isn’t the first one: in the PS2 version of "Red Faction 1", those tools gave me this (http://rghost.net/43167389) on a couple of tracks (the interesting part starts after 1:20 – and you would REALLY want to lower the volume prior to listening to that). Not to mention some generally unstable work (with the necessity to shut them down from Task Manager from time to time).
I don’t have proper replacements for those tools though (VGMstream, for example, doesn’t "understand" .VMUs from PS2 versions of both Summoners) – so there probably isn’t much I can do about those cut-offs. Moreover, even if I happen to stumble upon some tools which would be adequate replacements to MFAudio/Cube (in terms of "working with ADPCMs" functionality), I am not quite sure, if that would be worth my time. The end-beginning transitions in non-PS2 tracks aren’t perfect either (although I agree that on PS2 tracks they are much more jarring) – and we are talking about less than a second missing from each of the tracks anyway. On the other hand, remaking those rips would be a pretty hefty amount of work (severely worsened by the fact that I would need to extract those .VMUs from PS2-Summoner2 using hex editor once again, since I don’t have them on my HDDs anymore) which I frankly don’t see myself undertaking anytime soon.
And yes, I do feel genuinely sorry about those cut-offs for all that’s worth.
1) It appears, I was missing a couple of PS2 cutscenes in "Summoner 2" release. See the corresponding post (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f72/summoner-complete-gamerip-36540/6.html#post2219451) for more information.
2) I’ve also managed to complete the game quite some time ago.
3) Sadly, there were no more interesting Summoner-related releases from Dezacrator so far. DISREGARD THAT! Message from the Man himself (http://anonym.to/?[url=http://www.youtube.com/all_comments?v=lyUSAwQ1-F8):
Great news Summoner Fans! I have started production on a complete re-release of the soundtrack for the video game Summoner, a OST made in 1999, when I worked at Volition / THQ. This set will included completely redone music from the multitrack masters exclusively with all new songs never released from that era!

Great news Summoner Fans! I have started production on a complete re-release of the soundtrack for the video game Summoner, a OST I made in 1999, when I worked at Volition / THQ. This set will included completely redone music from the multitrack masters I own exclusively with all new songs never released from that era!
No release date announced. Please subscribe for more information and stay up to date!
P.S. Also, apparently, there was Summoner3 in the works, but it was cancelled after a year’s worth of production, right after RedFaction2’s miserable failure.
EDIT: New video from Scott (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCztHjFfSn0). This one – with the remaster apparently, not a remaster, just an HQ version of the "End Credits"/"Wolong Cave" theme.
EDIT2: Excerpt (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-JCv5SUVUY) from the Luminar/Riders battle theme (originally named "Devil’s Touch") with the original cutscene for which it was created (and which was NOT included into the final game) and the entirety of Medevan World Map theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RN0LiL4drgk) (originally named "Nightfall" – not the remastered version though, just the original one in high quality).
EDIT3: Ikaemos Palace theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5Khp96tsRM) (originally named "Lost in the Sewers II" – the original version, NOT a remaster) and Lenele Marketplace theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIgmlx9wPRQ) (originally named "Fate of the Gods" – again, the original HQ version, not a remaster). The latter in particular is especially interesting, since this version has some elements, which couldn’t be heard in the ingame version because of its low sampling rate (chimes, for example).
This breaks my heart, especially now that the Summoner IP is still in limbo and Volition is part of Koch Media since THQ’ demise.
But I’m glad that after all this time an official soundtrack is on it’s way.
LINK (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcTZpEj530I)
It doesn’t touch upon some of the shiftier themes like the tensions between him and Walter Shaw, but it is pretty interesting nevertheless.
Also, apparently, there is a possibility that he would record some new vocals with Clarissa Novales (the singer from Summoner’s soundtrack) for the extended remastered versions of the songs. I wonder how much has her voice changed during all this time…

Also, I was thinking about making a modded version of music.vpp archive (after the remastered soundtrack is released) in order to restore the correctly assigned and unabridged versions of tracks to each of the locations. For example, the End Credits tune was never meant for Wolong Caves – and Wolong Cave initially used the track that ended up in Iona Catacombs ("Passage of the Undead"), Luminar Battle theme ("Devil’s Touch") was never meant for Riders, etc. etc. But I’m having my doubts as to whether it would be possible. There are 41 tracks in the PC version of the game (and I simply don’t know if any of the extra PS2 tracks are used in the PS2 version of the game at all). Scott wrote however, that he composed only 27 or 28 tracks – and he has ~10 extra tracks ("Shadows", "Conjure", etc.) that weren’t released at all. I suspect that if I assign each of the remastered tracks to their respective place, some locations with no suitable tune assigned to them at all are bound to turn up (for example, if "Passage of the Undead" was never meant for Iona Catacombs, then what track was originally intended for "Iona Catacombs"? will the remastered soundtrack answer this question? will the remastered soundtrack answer ALL of the questions of this nature?) – and for some of those locations there could be simply no suitable music at all.
Of course, I could just switch every tune from music.vpp for its extended remastered 44kHz version (where there would be one) and call it a day, but it seems like a kind of a half-assed course of action to me.
And of course, none of it matters if I do not have the means to repack the VPP files. I think RFkit has such an option – I’ll try to test its abilities (and whether Summoner would recognize switched HQ tunes at all) on this matter when I have the time.
Nothing is currently known about any of the future plans of these guys regarding the series, except that the first Summoner will probably turn up on GOG now (GOG has a lot of Nordic’s games) and we probably won’t see any future Summoner sequels from Volition (seeing that it belongs to a competing publisher now – although, I am clearly not an expert to make such kinds of statements).
Anyways, Nordic guys created a section on their forum dedicated to discussion of the THQ’s IPs they’ve acquired – and I’ve created a Summoner thread there (http://forum.nordicgames.at/showthread.php?178162-Summoner). So, well, if you feel like you might have something to say there regarding the possible future of the series – here you go.
P.S. There weren’t any new developments regarding the upcoming Summoner OST as of this moment.
First of all – this interview (http://direman.com/columns/softwareslump/article.php?comicID=8), which I kind of missed until today – and which gives some insights as to what exactly happened between Scott Lee and Walter Shaw during Summoner development.
Second – Scott uploaded 3 previously unreleased short excerpts (the sad part being that they are indeed very short): "Mysticism (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nFqAS6oNuQ)", "Flesh (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3navdhtKnY)" (which was apparently the original tune for Iona Catacombs) and "Soulless (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GBgg9qIcYk)" (which was the original tune for Liangshan Forest). Why were the last two in particular (as well as that "Shadows" track I’ve posted earlier) omitted from the game – a don’t have a single freaking clue. Except that the person who cut them out must’ve been quite a bit soft in the head (especially considering how abysmal the final Liangshan track ended up in comparison to that "Soulless" excerpt).
Be sure to check out the comments too. Sadly, the short discussion of the "Flesh" video ended up being lost after the reupload, but it basically amounted to this: Scott’s tracks + DanWentz’ cutscene tracks would be enough to fully "map" the entire game. There would be no need for any new tracks and there would be no blank uncovered spots for which no "director’s cut" music exists. At least, that’s what Scott said. And for me personally, these are some tremendously good news.
I renewed the Multiupload link – and the Mediafire one will hopefully become available once again in a couple of hours/days.
Feel free to notify me of any other missing parts – best to do it via PM though.
Seems there’s an announcement by Scott Lee himself around a month ago about the release of a 20th Anniversary Album:
Summoner 20th Anniversary is a magical and nostalgic journey into a moment in gaming history for PlayStation 2 and PC. Over a four year period, Scott Lee, the original composer has modernized the entire production by meticulously and delicately rebuilding every song from scratch. Hear elements and sounds you couldn’t hear before, truly experience how the soundtrack was intended to be. Unreleased songs that were written for Summoner from 1999 to 2001 era complete the musical storyline. This album is a must-have for any Summoner fan!
* Reused original keyboard hardware from 1999 adding the perfect color accuracy faithful to the source material from Summoner.
* Recorded using industry top of the line DSP gear @ 96K 24 bit sample rate masters. Every sound was re-recorded for superb quality.
* Evaluated development notes, audio, midi, and design choices for Summoner from legacy media to maintain accuracy.
* Completed the musical storytelling with Summoner songs written from 1999 that were intended to be in the game.
* An enormous amount of time, love and effort was put into the final product, for the fans!
If someone is interested in this album, please reply in that thread.
