Mention outstanding songs, albums, things like that. Remember, everyone can find and discover new music in this. Also, if you havent heard of one(or both bands) do make an effort to find some of their work to try. last.fm, torrents or something like that will help in this.
Battle 1:
Opeth: Opeth is an extreme progressive metal band from Sweden. Opeth adds several lighter elements to their music with acoustic guitar interludes, and influences from jazz, 1970s progressive rock, blues and folk on top of a fast, churning death metalesque sound.
Nominated by dr.tchocky(Pop Rocks).
vs
Jamiroquai: Jamiroquai was initially the most prominent component in the early-1990s London-based acid jazz movement, alongside groups such as Incognito, the Brand New Heavies, Galliano, and Corduroy. Subsequent albums have explored other musical directions.
Nominated by Ebichu.
Oh boy, JK is pretty cool and I grew up watching Virtual Insanity on the TV, and all those Lambos :swoon:. But Opeth is top-drawer and easily secures my vote. Easily the best Melodic Death Metal band out there. Albums like Blackwater Park, Deliverence and Still Life are a must for any metal fan.
Jamiroquai-5
The Swedish death metal merchants take our first battle down!
Battle 2:
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds:Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds is a successful rock/post-punk band with international personnel. It was originally formed in 1984 by two former members of the Australian band The Birthday Party: Nick Cave (singer, songwriter) and Mick Harvey (drums). They were joined by Einst???rzende Neubauten member Blixa Bargeld (guitar), Hugo Race (guitar), and former Magazine member Barry Adamson (bass, piano). With this line-up, the band recorded and released their debut album, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – From Her To Eternity (1984).
Nominated by Trent.
Gwen Stefani:Gwen Ren???e Stefani Rossdale (born October 3, 1969) is an American singer, songwriter, fashion designer, and frontwoman of the ska/rock band No Doubt. One of her first breaks came when she performed a duet with Sublime. Stefani first experienced mainstream success with the release of 1995’s Tragic Kingdom, which spawned hits such as Just a Girl, Spiderwebs, and Don’t Speak. Follow-up albums did not match the sales of Tragic Kingdom, but were successful on different levels of popularity and genre.
Nominated by Gina.
I don’t really care for Cave & the Seeds, and Stefani is fairly decent, so Gwen Stefani it is. I pretty much love any female vocalist, bar that screechy Evanescene whore.
anyhoo,
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
I can’t believe I didn’t even vote on my own nomination. I’m such a cunt.
Sorry to you bad seeds voters ๐
Also, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, of course!!
Sorry to you bad seeds voters ๐
Yeah! You’ll be sorry!
Anyway, what have we got;
Gwen Stefani – 8
Nick Cave – 6
Close battle, but Gwen shades it by two.
Battle Three:
The Lillingtons: The Lillingtons (1995-2001, 2006-present) are a rock and roll band from Newcastle, Wyoming who made a mark on the world of punk rock. Considered a pop punk act by contemporaries, they self-released their first full-length album titled Shit Outta Luck in 1996. After a series of vinyl-only releases the band decided to change their sound, and in 1999 they went into the studio with legendary producer-engineer Mass Giorgini to record a new LP. The result was Death By Television, an album which took sci-fi movie-themed songs such as "War Of The Worlds" and "Invasion Of The Saucermen" and combined them with tracks that made references to other schlocky retro themes, such as "X-Ray Specs" and "I Need Some Brain Damage". The band would spent the next two years touring heavily within the underground punk scene.
Nominated by T66
vs
Black Sabbath: Black Sabbath are an English heavy metal band from Birmingham. The original band line up of Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Terence "Geezer" Butler (bass), and Bill Ward (drums) is the same as the current line up (2007) although there have been shifts of personnel in between. Black Sabbath remain a dominant influence in the genre they helped create. VH1’s 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock ranks them second, behind Led Zeppelin
Nominated by Kailas.
Going for the Lillingtons, cos I cant stand Black Sabbath, and the Lillingtons have some good stuff.
It’s Heaven and Hell
Black Sabbath-10
A not at all surprising near whitewash for Sabbath there.
Battle 4:
The Frames: band based mainly in Dublin. As of late 2004, the band consists of Glen Hansard (vocals, guitar), Joe Doyle (bass guitar, vocals), Colm Mac Con Iomaire (violin, keyboard and vocals), Rob Bochnik (lead guitar) and Johnny Boyle (drums). Various people played drums during 2004, including Graham Hopkins who drummed on Dance the Devil, Burn the Maps and the band’s latest album The Cost. On both versions of the album Fitzcarraldo the band went by the moniker "The Frames DC", to avoid confusion with a United States band. The band has existed since 1990 and is a survivor of Dublin’s prolific early 90s rock and roll scene.
Nominated by me.
vs
PJ Harvey: Polly Jean Harvey, born October 9, 1969 in yeovil and raised in nearby corscombe (dorset), is a British singer-songwriter. She has recorded as a solo artist under the name PJ Harvey, but she began her career as part of a trio (with drummer Rob Ellis and bassist Steve Vaughan) also named PJ Harvey. Early material released by the trio on "Dry," "4 Track Demos," and "Rid of Me" was praised by critics for its raw blues and punk influenced lo-fi rock sound and dark, witty lyrics. After the trio broke up, Harvey released "To Bring You My Love," a blues-heavy album that expanded the range of her sound through the incorporation of strings, organs, and electronic sound effects. Her stage show became more theatrical, with Harvey performing in ballgowns, pink catsuits, wigs and garish and vampirish make-up.
Nominated by Ktulu.
Gotta be the Frames, cos they are just about the best Irish band ever, and probably the best live band i’ve ever seen. I can’t deny PJ is fantastic too though, and will probably win this round.
Well, I’m going to follow my current gut feeling: THE FRAMES!
PJ Harvey is dull, and never heard anything by The Frames D:
Damn it ๐
PJ Harvey
PJ Harvey-6
Closest contest so far, Frames take it by 1.
Battle 5:
AC/DC: AC/DC is a hard rock band formed in Australia. The group formed in sydney, australia in December 1973. Their albums have sold in colossal numbers; the total is now estimated at well over 150 million copies worldwide, with the 1980 album Back In Black selling over 21 million in the US alone and 40+ million world wide. The band has had two distinctive lead singers, and fans tend to divide its history into the "Bon Scott era (1974-80)" and the "Brian Johnson era (1980-present)".
vs
The Unicorns: The montreal-based Unicorns were originally formed in December 2000 by Nicholas Thorburn (stage name Nick "Neil" Diamonds, as well as a host of other aliases) and Alden Penner (stage name, Alden Ginger; Elvis Presley’s fianc???e when he died was Ginger Alden). They were later joined by drummer Jamie Thompson (stage name J’aime Tambeur) and Max Groadie ("the American Roadie, n??? Bill Horwood"). The band self-released their debut album Unicorns Are People Too in March 2003 through their own record label Caterpillars of the Community, with a limited press run of 500 copies.
Easy vote for the Unicorns here.
AC/DC
If you are not heartless I would check out some music videos. The video portions are not the greatest. The only one that had any kind of budget was Jellybones and that was not much. But the songs are totally awesome. The bass in Tuff Ghost is crazy cool.
Jellybones (http://youtube.com/watch?v=3mIZooCIQ3o)
I Was Born a Unicorn (http://youtube.com/watch?v=qutcmPmYUpg)
Tuff Ghost (http://youtube.com/watch?v=_BcT3jQl9h0)
I’d pay to see that.
It’s obvious AC/DC are going to seal a victory here though. Suck or not the tally says it all.
AC/DC-11
You people make me sick.
Battle 6:
Dream Theater: Dream Theater (often abbreviated to DT) is a progressive metal and rock band, formed by three students at the Berklee College of Music in 1985. In the twenty years since their inception, they have become one of the most commercially successful progressive bands since the height of progressive rock in the mid-1970s, despite being relatively unknown in mainstream pop and mainstream rock circles. Their two highest selling albums are 1992’s "Images and Words", which was awarded a gold record and is consistently regarded as a seminal progressive metal release; and 2005’s deeply conceptual "Octavarium".
vs
Cher: Cher (born Cherilyn Sarkisian on May 20, 1946) is an American actress and singer of Armenian descent (from father’s side). She rose to prominence in the 1960s as a member of the duo Sonny & Cher, then as a solo artist when the duo ended in 1974. She has sold over 100 million records worldwide since the start of her solo career. In a career that has now surpassed 40 years, Cher has established herself as a pop icon. She is one of the most enduring entertainers of her time, having sold over 100 million records.
No decision here. Dream Theater are probably my favourite band(fuck you Chris) and possibly the best band ive ever heard from a techincal point of view.
Vote for Cher at your own risk. You’ve been warned.
Dream Theater, lol, and, I really am not going to dignify this choice with a reason.
oh ๐
Dream Theater
I despise the vocalist, I cannot stand the way he sings or even sounds but the musical talent of the keyboardist and guitarist is what is making me vote for them.
me no like cher
I despise the vocalist, I cannot stand the way he sings or even sounds but the musical talent of the keyboardist and guitarist is what is making me vote for them.
James La Brie is one of the best vocalists out there ๐ก
And the fact you didnt mention the the drummer earns you another healthy slice of -rep also.
And the fact you didnt mention the the drummer earns you another healthy slice of -rep also.
The drummer may have immense, unmatchable talent to your ears but I’ve heard better to my ears: Paice, Vinny Appice and Cozy Powell. Nobody has the same set of years so in the end it’s a matter of opinion.
The Vocalist is the same kind of thing but slightly different, I don’t like his voice at all, again I’ve heard much better, better IMO that is: Ronnie James Dio, Joe Lynn Turner, Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford, Ian Gillan.
The drummer just fails to stand out to me, that’s why I missed him out, it’s all opinion in the end, it’s not as if you’d get shot for thinking otherwise. I think…
The Keyboard + Guitar combos in DT remind me of 80’s Deep Purple after Blackmore left (Steve Morse sucks, bad btw, so it’s not hard to black him out)
It’s obvious a pop singer can’t beat a band with talent.
dull ginger wanker ๐ i know one of hansard’s school friends, and the guy is lame to the max, therefore, vis a vis, ergo, => frames suck.
I QUIT THE INTERNET
also : i vote cher. ๐
The most accurate answer would be because I didn’t care about either and my vote was solicited by someone who wanted the frames to win. I can make up a more interesting one if you like.
Cher-2
DT moves on. Onwards..
Battle 7:
Kings of Leon: Kings of Leon is a rock band made up of three brothers and a cousin, based in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, who play a cross between Southern rock and garage rock. The group’s name is derived from Nathan, Caleb, and Jared’s father and grandfather, both named Leon. Jared and Caleb were born in Tennessee, while Nathan and Matthew were born in Oklahoma.
vs
Less then Jake: Less Than Jake is a popular band from Gainesville, Florida. They are currently on the roster of Warner Brothers Records. Their current line-up includes Chris (vocals, guitar), Roger (bass, vocals, guitar at certain live shows), Vinnie (drums, lyricist), Buddy (trombone, bass at certain live shows) and JR (saxophone). The band’s name derives from a dog Vinnie had while growing up, which was treated better than the rest of the family. It’s also a reference to the phrase "everything is jake," which is an old phrase meaning everything is cool.
One for Less then Jake here. Always a band I enjoy to listen to.
I vote Cher, ‘cos I scoff at the threats of the Irish.
Kings of Leon.
splooge man splooge they were one of my nominations
Kings of Leon-9
Much to my disgust, LTJ falls on its sword. Alas, we move on.
Battle 8:
Tool: Tool is a progressive rock band from Los Angeles, California. Tool is most noted for combining hard rock with progressive structures, strange time signatures and lyrics that range from anger to philosophical matters. Currently the band consists of: Danny Carey (Drums), Justin Chancellor (Bass), Adam Jones (Guitar) and Maynard James Keenan (Vocals). Formerly included Paul d’Amour (Bass) who left the band over "creative differences."
vs
Django Reinhardt: Django Reinhardt (1910-1953) was a gypsy jazz guitarist from Belgium, who managed to develop a highly individual and virtuosic style of jazz guitar despite losing the use of two fingers in a caravan fire. His guitar wizardry and ear for melody has provided the standard against which many modern gypsy jazz guitarists (such as Martin Taylor) are compared today. Reinhardt was also a member of Quintette du Hot Club de France, where he played with violinist St???phane Grappelli. He has been highly influential, particularly to the worlds of jazz and guitar, and has been cited as an influence by the likes of Chet Atkins, Les Paul, Carlos Santana and Charlie Christian, to name but a few.
Django is cool beans, but Tool secures my vote. A band I really dont listen to enough ๐
And Danny Carey is a superb drummer.
I fail ๐
Biasm for the win.
I can do amazing things with two fingers as well. :smut:
VOTING TOOL
When I read back my comment I thought the same thing, so I just left it. Smut is cool.
Django Reinhardt-8
Tool crawls back and shades it by one.
Battle 9:
Bob Dylan: Bob Dylan (born Robert Allen Zimmerman on May 24, 1941) is an American singer-songwriter, musician and poet whose enduring contributions to American song are often compared, in fame and influence, to those of Stephen Foster, Irving Berlin, Woody Guthrie, and Hank Williams. His place in American and European culture in the 1960s through to the present is unique. Much of Dylan’s best known work is from the 1960s, when he became an informal documentarian and reluctant figurehead of American unrest. Some of his songs, such as "Blowin’ in the Wind" and "The Times They Are A-Changin’", became anthems of the anti-war and civil rights movements.
The Underwolves: The Underwolves shot to fame with their genre-bending ’96 single "Nine Lives" on Dorado sub Filter (home to DJ Q and The Amalgamation Of Soundz) and were promptly signed to Island. Unfortunately, their debut album Under Your Sky languished in major label limbo while Island was bought out not once but twice (the label is now under the Universal umbrella). Finally reunited with their work, the Wolves approached Munich’s Jazzanova. With their keen ear for the unique, the German collective of nu-jazz DJs, producers, and remixers was more than happy to release the album on their JCR imprint.
Never even heard of the Underwolves, so Bob Dylan by default.
I’m too lazy to go back and look through all of the bands again, but I don’t remember seeing King Crimson or Rush. =\
also: nick drake
But now:
Bawb. ๐
_hahaha_
The Underwolves-1
Total demolition, as expected.
Battle 9:
Tokyo Jihen: (Tokyo Jihen) The Tokyo Incidents is a Japanese band created by Shiina Ringo, after leaving her solo career. The band’s debut single was released in September 2004. Shiina had always wished to work with a band and selected her band members while working on her last album, Karuki Zamen Kuri no Hana. The tour band was first introduced as Tokyo Jihen during her Sugoroku Ecstasy tour, featuring guitarist Hirama, PE’Z keyboardist HZM, drummer Hata, and familiar bassist Kameda.
vs
Frank Zappa: Frank Vincent Zappa (December 21, 1940 – December 4, 1993) was an American composer, guitarist, singer and satirist. In his 33-year musical career, Zappa proved to be one of the most prolific musician-composers of his era, releasing over 75 albums (including live performances) during his lifetime, almost all of which consisted of original compositions. He was also a renowned electric guitarist and a gifted producer-engineer who self-produced almost every recording he made after his 1966 debut.
Easy vote for Zappa here.
someone had a stun gun named frank after him

No point keeping this open. Ebichu’s nominations arent exactly doing well, lol.
Battle 10:
Weird Al Yankovic: Alfred Matthew "Weird Al" Yankovic (born October 23, 1959) is an American musician best known for his parodies of contemporary radio hits. His lyrics depend largely on the satirizing of popular culture including television, movies, food, music, and news stories. Though parodies earned him his fame, Yankovic has recorded a greater number of humorous songs with original tunes. Some of these pieces are pastiches (or style parodies), where he chooses a band’s entire body of work to emulate rather than any single hit. Most of his albums include a medley which juxtaposes the choruses of various songs in a polka style to accordion music.
vs
The Andrews Sister: The Andrews Sisters were a group of singing sisters: LaVerne Andrews (contralto; July 6, 1911-May 8, 1967), Maxene Anglyn Andrews (high harmony; January 3, 1916-October 21, 1995) and Patti Andrews (lead; born February 16, 1918). All were born in Minnesota to a Greek immigrant father and a Norwegian American mother. “Patty Andrews, the lead singer of the Andrews sisters group was born in Mound, Minnesota on February 16, 1918 in a house that occupied the property where The Gillespie Center stands today.

Battle 12:
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah is a Brooklyn and Philadelphia based indie-rock band consisting of Alec Ounsworth, Lee Sargent, Robbie Guertin, Tyler Sargent, and Sean Greenhalgh. All the band members attended Connecticut College,in New London, CT. Their debut album, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, recorded by Adam Lasus (Yo La Tengo – Genius + Love = Yo La Tengo/Helium – The Dirt of Luck), was self-released in 2005, receiving attention from numerous MP3 blogs and a favorable review from Pitchfork Media, who gave the band a "Best New Music" commendation. The ensuing demand for the album was so great that the band was visibly forced to repress the CD, as the initial production run was too small. David Bowie and David Byrne have recently been spotted at some of the band’s shows, garnering them even more press. Most recently, they received praise from Rolling Stone as the ‘Hot New Band’ for 2005. On October 3, 2005, they were signed to Wichita Recordings in the UK.
vs
Jeff Buckley: Jeff Buckley (17 November 1966 – 29 May 1997) was the son of musician Tim Buckley and Mary Guibert. The influences of artists as diverse as ???dith Piaf, Nina Simone, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and Led Zeppelin may be found in Buckley’s music. His textured, dynamic voice and personal, powerful lyrics, commanding stage presence, and rich and unique orchestration have made his 1994 debut album Grace, regarded by many as a modern rock classic. Highlights include ‘Last Goodbye’, ‘Lover, You Should’ve Come Over’, and his cover version of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’. Jeff passed away in a drowning accident in the Wolf River, a Memphis, Tennessee tributary of the Mississippi River, on May 29, 1997.
Voting for Buckley here.

An early string of vote for Buckley means he takes this one.
Battle 13:
Super Furry Animals: Formed in Cardiff, Wales in 1993 by Gruff Rhys (lead vocals, guitar), Huw "Bunf" Bunford (guitar, vocals), Guto Pryce (bass), Cian Ciaran (keyboards, electronics) and Dafydd Ieuan (drums), Super Furry Animals (also known as "SFA", the "Furries" and the "Super Furries") are a welsh rock band, with leanings towards psychedelic rock and electronic experimentation.

Norah Jones was listed among the most influential people of 2004 by the Time Magazine.
SFA are one of my fav bands, and miles better then anything in the genre, so SFA it is.
I also simply don’t listen to the other one ๐ฎ
Norah Jones-2
Expected that to be a lot closer, but SFA romps into Round 2.
Battle 14:
Rage Against the Machine: Rage Against The Machine is an American rock band noted both for its diligent political conscience and for its blend of hard rock and rap. By the time point of the band’s break-up in 2000, Rage Against the Machine had become one of the most popular political hard rock bands of all time, and certainly of the 1990s. Following the break-up of the band, Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk formed Audioslave with singer Chris Cornell, formerly of Soundgarden, which recently disbanded. The band is now at least temporarily reunited for a series of concerts. Rage Against the Machine drew inspiration from early metallic instrumentation, as well as rap acts such as Public Enemy, and Afrika Bambaataa.
vs
Grandaddy: Solar-powered space pop combo Grandaddy was formed in Modesto, CA in 1992 by singer/guitarist/keyboardist Jason Lytle, bassist Kevin Garcia, and drummer Aaron Burtch; although a noisy, lo-fi approach characterized early recordings like 1994’s Grandaddy – Complex Party Come Along Theories, with the 1995 additions of guitarist Jim Fairchild and keyboardist Tim Dryden the group’s sound expanded exponentially over the course of subsequent efforts including the unreleased Grandaddy – Don’t Sock the Tryer and the 1996 EP Grandaddy – A Pretty Mess By This One Band.
I’ve heard good things about Grandaddy, but Rage for me.
And its not about the politics, its about the sore neck you wake up with the next day!
vote for Grandaddy
Grandaddy-9
Grandaddy shades a close fought round.
Battle 15:
Depeche Mode: Depeche Mode are an English synthpop band, founded in 1980, originally from the town of Basildon. They have been one of the longest-lived and most successful bands to have emerged during the new wave/new romantic era. As of 2005, it is estimated that Depeche Mode has sold over 70 million albums worldwide. They have been highly influential in the electronic music scene, in part due to their innovative work, recording techniques and use of sampling. The three current members of Depeche Mode are: Martin L. Gore (songwriting, vocals, guitars, keyboards), Dave Gahan (lead vocals, recent songwriting, occasional instruments), Andrew Fletcher (keyboards).
vs
Azure Ray: Azure Ray is an American indie duo, consisting of musicians Maria Taylor and Orenda Fink. Azure Ray started in Athens, Georgia, but has since relocated to Omaha, Nebraska and joined the music scene there. Their sound is sparse and understated, with intimate lyrics, elements of alt-country and folk Americana, and occasional forays into minimalist electronica territory. Both Maria and Orenda have recently released solo albums on Saddle Creek Records.
Not mad about either, but Depeche Mode I guess.
If you want to hear some songs before posting http://www.myspace.com/azureray
Depeche Mode, cause they’re pretty damn funky
Basildon is not very far away from me !_!

Landslide win for Depeche Mode. Onwards…
Battle 16:
Primus: Primus is a rock band formed in California in the mid-1980s by two ex-members of thrash band Blind Illusion by Les Claypool and Larry LaLonde. Larry’s band before Blind Illusion was death metal pioneers Posessed. Les (vocals and bass guitar) has been the only constant member. They have had two guitar players (although Larry has held onto the role for the past 16 years) and many different drummers (although Tim Alexander and Bryan "Brain" Mantia were the only ones who recorded with the band, and Jay Lane, the only other one who had creative impact) in the past. Their music has proven difficult to define; while usually considered by critics to be funk-metal or alternative metal, Primus has been called everything from "thrash funk" (as the band blends funk-style bass technique with thrash influenced guitar riffs and songs tempos), to "alternative rock" to "the Freak Brothers set to music." Les Claypool himself once described their music as "psychedelic polka."
vs
British Sea Power: British Sea Power are a four-man band based in Brighton, England. Yan and Hamilton are brothers, brought up in Kendal, Cumbria, and went to the same school as drummer Woody. When Yan moved to Reading, he met guitarist Noble, who hailed from Leeds. The entire merry group gathered in Reading and converged upon Brighton. Eamon recently left the band to create his own band Brakes. They are an indie rock band with a sweeping, often epic, guitar pop sound, often compared to that of Echo & The Bunnymen and The Smiths. They have released two albums, The Decline Of British Sea Power (2003) and Open Season (2005), which focus on 2 themes, nature and memory.
Primus for me. One of my favourite bands, although I have to acknowledge BSP are great too.
Unique guitarist, phenomenal bass player, and one of my favorite drummers (Alexander).

Be Your Own Pet: be your own PET (often abbreviated to BYOP) are a four-piece post-punk group from Nashville, Tennessee, USA.
The teenage band consists of lead singer Jemina Pearl Abegg, the daughter of Christian artist/photographer Jimmy Abegg; guitarist Jonas Stein, the son of manager Burt Stein; Jamin Orrall (drums), the son of producer/songwriter Robert Ellis Orrall; and Nathan Vasquez (bass), the son of acclaimed latin jazz guitarist Rafael Vasquez. Vasquez replaced Jake Orrall, a founding member of BYOP, who left the band to spend a year in Iceland.
vs
Rammstein: Rammstein is a German band formed in 1994. Their musical style, which they have dubbed "Tanz-Metall" ("Dance Metal"), incorporates elements of metal, industrial and electronic music. Rammstein took their name indirectly from the western German town of Ramstein, site of an airshow disaster in 1988. The band’s signature song, the eponymous "Rammstein", is a commemoration of the tragedy that took place at the Ramstein Air Base. The extra "m" in the band’s name means that it translates literally as "ramming stone" or "battering ram", reinforcing the style of music the band plays. Even though the lyrics are in German, the band has enjoyed success outside of Germany, both in Europe, North America as well as Australia and New Zealand. With the album Rammstein – Reise, Reise (2004), they became the most successful German-language band of all time internationally.
BYOP. No decision whatsoever. Jemina :swoon:
byop
I do not like either as a rule, but to be honest, Rammstein are the more hideously hilarious, which is why they get my vote.
Rammstein-4
May the 4 nit-wits that voted for Rammstein be damned for all eternity.
Moving on;
The Beatles: If you dont know who these guys are, what the fuck are doing voting?
vs
Iron Maiden: See above.
Easy vote for Iron Maiden, cos im a metalhead, and the Beatles are over-rated pish.
Also cause:
"Put them in the iron maiden."
"Iron Maiden! Excellent!"
"Execute them!"
"Bogus."
I do like Iron Maiden however, so they get my vote..
Yes, I like metal but The Beatles were far more important to the development of music as a whole than Iron Maiden, who only have about 3 really good albums.
Fucking obvious, any ‘nitwit’ knows that.
iron maiden are decent sometimes but you know, whatever.
i vote for neither.
A band can be overrated and still be great.
also: bruce dickenson from maiden is a twat.
I’m pretty much against all the elitist bullshit spewed by people anyway, even if it’s in terms of something like Limp Bizkit. I really don’t care what it’s about, even if I don’t like it myself, I’m just sick and tired of hearing "that sucks, that’s overrated!" No music is good or bad, it’s just relative to whether or not the person listening likes it. When you DON’T like it, well, so what? Why is there some need to act like an ass and put it down, belittle the people who created it, and insult the fans of it? I don’t get why people can’t just listen to and talk about shit they do like rather than bitching all the time.
They rule.

Yeah I really don’t like the "indie" type hipster scene. It was something I will admit that I bought into for awhile but then I got undumb and realized that most of the people that hang in that crowd or whatever are kind of pretentious assholes. There are of course cool people to be found, very cool people even, but the same can be said about any group of people really. There are cool people and assholes every where, its how the world works and so on. So I now try not to get on people about their music. (However when people get on me for my music I then do get pretty crazy frustrated.)
So… yeah.
nuh uh.
Limp Bizkit are cunting bullshit though.
The Beatles, of course! No hair metal band would get my favour in this battle!
Plus nowadays, youngsters only seem to like the Beatles because it’s the "cool" thing to do.
being overrated just kind of means you own anyways.
Plus nowadays, youngsters only seem to like the Beatles because it’s the "cool" thing to do.
I think there’s probably just as many "youngsters" going the underground way because it’s the "cool" thing to do, anti-mainstream and all that.
Fuck it, music is music, who cares how popular it is, judge it based on how it fucking sounds and whether or not that strikes a chord within you, not other petty shit such as how much money the fucking band is making off of it.
Iron Maiden-10
Fucking bullshit.
At the Drive-In: At the Drive-In (ATDI) was a post-hardcore band from El Paso, Texas from 1993 until 2001 and was one of the most influential bands of the genre. The band takes their name from a lyric in the song "Talk Dirty To Me" by Poison. Influenced primarily by the likes of Fugazi and Drive Like Jehu as well as their native Texas hardcore scene, At The Drive-in crafted epic, musically complex songs, each one laced with cryptic and strongly metaphorical lyrics. Founded in 1993 by guitarist Jim Ward and vocalist Cedric Bixler Zavala, who were at the time members of a punk band called the El Paso Pussycats where Jim sang and Cedric played drums but left to pursue music more seriously with some friends. ATD-I’s first studio recording was Hell Paso (Western Breed), an EP issued in 1994.

Dredg: Dredg is a progressive alternative band from Los Gatos, California. Their first studio album, Leitmotif, was released by the Universal music label on September 11, 2001. There has also been a movie planned for release as a music video for the entire album, though the project has been stalled. El Cielo, dredg’s proper Interscope debut, arrived in autumn 2002, and Deftones producer Terry Date was at the helm for their 2005 effort Catch Without Arms. A video for the single "Bug Eyes" was released. In the spring of 2006, dredg played on the Taste of Chaos tour. In November of 2006, dredg released "Live at the Fillmore.

Pink Floyd. And it’s utter sacrilege to vote otherwise.

The Velvet Underground: The Velvet Underground was an American rock band first active from 1965 to 1973. Its best-known alumni are Lou Reed and John Cale. Some see Velvet Underground as being a bridge between the pacifist themes of the late 60s and the sheer chaos and indifference of the mid-70s punk rock movement. The Velvet Underground was one of the first rock music groups to experiment heavily with the form by incorporating avant-garde influences. The group’s often raw, sometimes difficult sound would influence many later punk, noise rock, and alternative music performers, and singer Lou Reed’s lyrics brought new levels of social realism and sleaze to rock. Critics Scott Isler and Ira Robbins argue that "The Velvet Underground marked a turning point in rock history. After the release of The Velvet Underground and Nico, knowing the power of which it was capable, the music could never be as innocent, as unselfconscious as before."
Nat King Cole is great and all, buts its an easy vote for The Velvet Underground, one for the sheer influence they’ve had on the music industry and two cos Cale and Reed are 1337.
In light of recent events I am going to change my vote to The Velvet Underground because I really do think they are the more important musical entity I just thought Nat was going to get blown away and I didn’t want that to happen.
Sorry to the Velvet Underground supporters, I tried really hard to like them when checking them out but it just isn’t for me ๐
edit: NEVER MIND HOGAN ALREADY HAS
I WANT MY RUMBLE.
