Is there any GOOD heavy metal bands of today without mindless idiots screaming?

this is getting on me quite a bit.

is there any good heavy metal music of today that does not have some guy randomly screaming his lungs out behind vocals?

I’m not much of a fan and my knowledge on the subject is extremely limited, but I actually got to hear some of Ozzy’s old stuff back in the early days and it was pretty good. Ozzy SANG and he did it quite good. Forget the stupid Osbournes and discover why he was one of the people who invented Heavy Metal.

There’s a lot of things really. One band that comes to mind is Lacuna Coil. Why they do have a male singer that screams a bit now and then, the majority of the vocals are sung by their female vocalist. It’s kind of "mainstream" sounding so if you’re bothered by that (which you shouldn’t be, it’s silly) you won’t like it, but otherwise, they have fairly well put together songs with great vocals.

Mastodon

I’m not sure if they’re considered heavy metal as i’m not that well versed in the differences between the different metal genres, but their one of the few metal bands i’ve heard recently that I like. There is some yelping in it, but it’s pretty good at best and tolerable at worst for someone who doesn’t care much for screaming like myself. Even if you don’t like the screaming, the music itself warrants a listen.

Yes, Mastodon. The vocals are gruff and guttural, but they aren’t screaming. Try some of these other bands, it’s recent metal with coherent lyrics.

Another power metal band most people like is DragonForce, I think they’re pretty meh, great guitarwork, just gets repetitive fast. Pick up any album by them, they’re all basically the same formula. I probably enjoyed Sonic Firestorm the most.

Kyuss I’m not so sure whether to place as stoner rock or stoner metal, either or you should pick up Blues For The Red Sun and Welcome To Sky Valley. …And The Circus Leaves Town is a good choice too, though it’s usually not as well-received by others. I liked it though.

No seriously, your smart ass remark really fucking pisses me off, so what if you don’t like the band I mentioned, they fit the category of "metal that doesn’t have idiotic screaming" just fine. I don’t like some of the bands you mentioned but I’m not going to be a fucking jerk about it.

Anyway, MarioMurderer, I’d also say check out The Sword. Probably my favorite newer metal band and they don’t scream at all. They sound a good bit like a modern Black Sabbath.

You may also like Nevermore, they have straight ahead vocals over fairly heavy/technical progressive metal.

Oh, I’m sorry, didn’t mean to offend. Personally, I don’t like Lacuna Coil, but I see your point, it was a pretty jerk-ass thing to do, and because I don’t like them doesn’t mean the OP won’t. Sorry.

And I have to second the Nevermore recommendations. Not really familiar with The Sword, but they look pretty decent.

Where to start… There’s Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Pantera, Godsmack, Judas Priest, and Black Sabbath to name a few. And by the by, I believe you’re thinking of death/black metal.

You might be talking about Death/Black Metal, but out of that genre, I still insist on recommending Ihsahn’s work. He’s one of the most musically talented artists in the genre, and when he isn’t sounding like a beast from Hell, he does have good vocalization skills.

Er, yes, actually. Many people have recommended quite decent bands. I am irritated as well by the recent trends toward growling, but… hey, there’s always something good out there.

If you want something melodic, try checking out some European power metal bands. They usually have decent vocals (and even ones that are opera-trained, like Roy Khan in Kamelot and Tarja, even though she got kicked out), but growling is very rare in this genre.

Though it seems that Mario Murderer has abandoned this thread, I’ll just give some recommendations anyway. So, I’d recommend to the progressive metal (Dream Theater etc..) fan the, ‘A Blessing In Disguise’ album by Green Carnation, ‘A Sceptic’s Universe’ by Spiral Architect and ‘Tyranny’ by Shadow Gallery.
