I’m going to dignify this with a serious answer.

The colors are slightly more muted and I think it really helps convey the more serious air of the plot and game in general. They are in a more "realistically" dire situation, so it only makes sense that our perception of their world should match their own. Hope comes in small doses, as do bright colors and pastels. The look is often very somber, and that is appropriate.

The colors in X and X-2 are okay for those games, but would probably appear overly garish if they were used in XII.

I do agree that X and X-2’s colors r good for those games, but that doesn’t change my outlook on XII! I walked into the video rental store, excited to play XII and when I saw the cover, I thought two things:

1. What’s up with the color?
and
2. That guy looks like a chick!

So I stand by my remarks.

Then please make that clear when you comment. Be specific as to which part you are agreeing with, as no qualification will make others assume that you agree wholeheartedly.

Androgeny is not uncommon in video games, or Final Fantasy games in specific. Some have said Tidus looks like Meg Ryan, after all 😛 Plus, you were able to tell it was a guy based on the lack of secondary female sex characteristics, so it isn’t totally unclear. This, however, is a topic for another thread.

Character design is part of a game’s style, I suppose, but You focused on color in your poll. It would be appreciated if you could clarify what you are after in future polls, and be consistent in defining the voting options, so members can respond intelligently to what is being addressed.

I will also note that my favorite FF games r VII, VIII, X and X-2. So as you can see, my point of view is from someone who thinks that XII is a second line to VII, VIII, X and X-2.

You listed VII-X, skipping IX. You sounded suspiciously like a person who had never played a FF prior to VII.

Sounds like I was right in spirit, if not in letter. IX is one of the better FF games, if not the best. The actions of the characters are, ultimately, far from childish and I would argue take a more mature viewpoint to understand and appreciate.

I could go into specifics, but I won’t as this isn’t the forum for this particular discussion.

I’m going to second Bergan on this. I’ve come to dislike X-2 since I posted on this forum that I was okay with it. I am not a fan of "job" games like III, V, and X-2. That is a personal preference about gameplay issue, not an issue of masculinity, and has nothing to do with the quality of the game itself.

Dude, I have to agree with you too here, I ain’t sexist or anything, but I guess throughout the other Final Fantasies, you kinda get used to being a male character rather than a female one, and it kinda sticks.

It was kind of a fantasy to play as auron or Tidus.

But the game had a all female cast, and that is what makes it unique.

I’m not wrong with someone disliking the job style, but I’m just saying about the "girl" thing

I would love to play a female-led game that I actually enjoyed.

I’ll accept arguments that XII is actually centered around Ashe, moreso than Vaan. I haven’t finished the game, but right now her actions are driving the plot progression.

FFXII is a more mature game and I love it for that reason. Some parts of X and nearly all of X-2 made me cringe because of the amount of cheese, and XII doesnt seem to have much of that, in fact any of that. I would love the next in the series to be more serious and dark etc but thats just me.

Don’t like the music in XII though, I must say.
