VI doesn’t need a remake, it’s perfect as is. None of them need a remake. But, opinions, opinions.
"I can’t play this game, the graphics suck!!! Remake it, remake it!"
As opposed to people like me who are content with a game as is. Just keep remaking games everytime a new level of graphics and game-play is achieved, and we’ll see if we end up with more energies going into remakes than original product.
May end up looking like the movie industry, innit? ๐ฎ :p
EDIT: This is aimed at TM, not you Hynad.
lol
Yes, I know why they make remakes: money and better graphics/gameplay. If those are commodities that are worth it to you, go right ahead.
I want a remake of FFVII, like most fans of the game. Not only because I want better graphics, but because if they end up doing it, maybe they can fix the game’s flaws and I’m sure we’ll get a better translation if they re-do it.
As for the remake of FFIV, as I said, I’m a retro gamer. I still enjoy the new games that are made. But the SNES era holds a really special spot in my heart, those were good days back then, and since FF IV is one of my favorite FF, I welcome this souped-up remake with open arms. I’ve been wondering for years what they could do with this game’s mood and universe (as well as FF VI) if they were to remake it in 3D and using CGI cut-scenes and maybe voice acting… I just enjoy these games that much that I want to see an ultimate version of them. And seeing how they’re going to rework the game’s script by putting in stuff that were left out of the original game, I think it might be interesting to see just how much the original script was altered to be the FF IV we already know.
Anyways, I don’t think it is a bad thing to do remakes. What would be bad is if we only saw remakes after remakes… But we all know S-E are still creating new games so why should we be concerned? There’s a market for brand new games, and there’s a market for remakes, so why should the companies only please one of these markets?
I think people who don’t want remakes are the ones who want the world to revolve around them. People who want remakes don’t say they don’t want brand new games… But people who only want new games complain about remakes. That’s pretty easy to see where the egotistic ones are.
This IS an interesting way to look at it. As I said, if they are worth it to you, and they’re willing to make them, have at it. As you said, if they get to the point of doing remakes of remakes that could be problematic as I mentioned in my movie analogy. Short of that, if you feel a need for a remake I won’t stand in your way. I’m a sucker for the old-school FFs as well and FOR ME, changing VI in particular doesn’t seem necessary and seems TO ME like it would take away a large part of what I love about it. As I said in the other thread, VI is still gorgeous to me and I fear what a remake would do to its aesthetic. I don’t particularly care for III’s visual style and what little I’ve seen of in-game footage for IV.
But, again, if they do a remake, I’m certainly not indebted to buy it by any means.

… … …

That’s exactly what you should do if they were going to remake FF VI and you don’t like it’s new art style, or game mechanics, or whatever. Stick to the version you prefer.
Still, FF VI had a really cinematic feel to it even on the SNES. So I think if they do it well, it might be interesting to see how more dramatic they can make the games cut scenes.
But other than graphics, I don’t think there’s much things to improve in FF VI. I give you that.
I’m with Hynad on the thought of making remakes of remakes. That would be ridiculous. I doubt SE would do that though.
Remakes can improve old games to make them fit with today’s games standards. While they might screw up in the process of remaking some games, other can turn up to be great improvements or at least feel just enough different in its own ways so it makes you feel like you’re playing the same games you’d play anyways on the SNES (for example) but the added tough like better sound or graphics just makes the enjoyment of that game better.
In the end, I really enjoy re-exploring these games from new angles. There are so many games from the past that I’d like to see remakes of.
One of my all time most wanted remakes is Maniac Mansion. And I think anyone who loved that game should agree that a remake for this awesome game is long overdue.
LucasArt, get over Star Wars and come back to more original franchises. I WANT MANIAC MANSION REMADE BEFORE I FUCKIN DIE!!!
(It’s late here —5:15am— so pardon me for getting carried away a little here.)
Lol. Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. I dunno why, but I found that game to be fun. I doubt that will ever be remade but that would be pretty awesome. I guess it doesn’t have a big fan base though.
Maniac Mansion is also something that needs to hit the VC and soon. Sigh, I remember blowing that house up just for the hell of it. Again, and again, and again.
Actually, i’m sort of glad they have chosen to redo fairly unknown titles of the series that i’ve never played (FF3 and FF4.) If they had chosen to remake FF6, then i’d probably be forced to buy a DS to play it on.
As a FF Fans I really love all of there games.
Especially FFIV – Story-Wise.
So sad really. Square has no imagination left. ๐
