As well, if you want to play Tetra Master, the card game from FFIX that is included with PlayOnline Viewer and FFXI, that also costs $1 a month to play. So, after reading your post, for you the monthly fees would be like this:
Main FFXI fee and one character: $12.95 USD a month
plus
Second FFXI character: $1 USD a month
plus
Tetra Master (card game) membership: $1 USD a month
Equals:
Total monthly fee: $14.95 USD a month
I’m not really sure about about additional premium services, like mail forwarding and character email addresses, but as you’re aware they have their own fees. These services are entirelly optional, and are not necessary at all to play FFXI, so it’s better to not bother with them (I don’t use them myself).
Also, for all these fees, the first month is free (which is pretty standard for most MMO games), so you can play it free as a trial and decide whether you want to continue to play it or not.
Hopefully, this hasn’t been too confusing for you. 🙂
However, a good way of knowing if your computer can run FFXI is to download, install and run the official FFXI Benchmark program, available free from here: http://www.playonline.com/ff11eu/download/media/benchmark01.html?pageID=media
If after running the Benchmark you get a score mentioned as ‘Easy Prey’ or over, then your computer can run FFXI reasonably well.
what do you suggest for a starter ? i was thinking of a red mage sicne that is mroe like ff8 and ff7 charaters witch is what i am mroe sue to is charaters that can use all the spells instead of just white or black so what do you think ??
As far as I’m aware, the PS2 version FFXI is still available for sale in the US though, but if you have a X-box 360, then the 360 version is preferable to the PS2 version. The 360 version also comes with all three expansion packs included on the one disk, where as the PS2 version only includes the first expansion Rise of the Zilart – you have to purchase the later two expansions Chains of Promathia and Treasures of Aht Urhgan for the PS2 version seperately.
As far as choice of starting Job, you can switch to any Job you like at any time in your Mog House, so whatever Job you start with you are not restricted to playing for the entire game. You start out with a choice of six Standard Jobs: Warrior, Thief, Monk, White Mage, Black Mage and Red Mage; and can later unlock up to twelve additional Advanced Jobs later in the game (some of these require the expansion packs to be installed and registered first however).
However, RDM (Red Mage) is definetely a good choice of Job when first starting out – you can wear armour, wield a sword and ranged weapons, and cast both Black and White Magic without a sub job, which can definetely be helpful, especially at the start.
So here’s my stats. Think I can swing it?
