Improvements Upon Galbadia Hotel

I know I’m new, but I couldn’t but notice quite a few flaws regarding the Galbadia Hotel website. First off, I’d like to say, I love the website, and I am loving what you guys are contributing to society.

I know you guys don’t have much time on your hands to just go around fixing your site instead of just adding on, but here’s some suggestions:

1. Organize by system, not just by alphabetical order. That may have been fine when you had a limited amount of soundtracks, but now you have a huge archive full of them. This needs fixing. Go to www.ocremix.org for a good example of what I’m trying to say or www.vgmusic.com.

2. You have some soundtracks that are the same, but under a totally different listing, or series that pop up under a different letter. For example: To find The Legend of Zelda series soundtracks, you have to search under L, T, or Z. This is quite annoying. Or for doubling of soundtracks with different names, New Super Mario Bros. is labeled under the latter and as The New Super Mario Bros. Last time I checked, it was just New. This can be confusing, and just adding on top of the previous complaint.

3. The site overall has a thrown together feel. It feels unorganized and messy, and the text is all over the place. Your Final Fantasy Shrine site looks great, but in comparison, Galbadia Hotel seems an afterthought, especially since it’s portraying a site with an abundance of video game music.

I know it’s still new, and pretty much a work in progress, but I think these changes will improve the site altogether.

i like the style of it. it’s simple and easy to use.

the problems you mentioned are really only small preferences. i don’t think any of them restrict the use of the website.

Sure, they usually are. But I’m sure that a new organization process will come in more useful when even more soundtracks are added. Especially more anime.

Here’s another thing. That MPire ad really slows down the site, and it gets in the way. I know a solution for this. Take a look-see here (www.oasections.com) to see how my friend did a similar kind of ad with ebay without slowing the site at all.

Just a suggestion, because it’s really getting on my nerves. The smilies one doesn’t even bother me this much. It’s not pretty, but it fits on the side, and you get money for it. So how bout it guys, can you replace that stupid MPire ad with something like this?

Note: I know his site isn’t anything pretty, but you get the basic idea.

I can’t… when I try to open up the soundtrack list page, my entire internet starts hanging for about a minute before I can actually do anything. That might just be my internet, though.

I thoroughly support this idea. I think a bit more organization would make the site great. The fact that an advanced sorting system is needed is a testament to just how much music is there.

True, true. I would suggest, that if you were to do something about the ads, especially if they’re supporting you, use the point system.

You know how, if you gather points, you might have the privilege of downloading a whole album instead of one by one. Use this method to allow users to get rid of the ads. So many points allows you to disable certain ads, and eventually, all of them.

you wouldn’t be paying for the music, the music’s there for free and always will be. you’re paying for the ability to view the site without ads.

we can’t use ebay for a number of reasons. the most important of which: they just don’t make enough money to justify using.

As a thought, perhaps you could do one of a few things for additional fundraising.

#1: GH Merchandise. I’d buy a T shirt, coffee mug, or other merchandise in support of the site.

#2: Delivered content: Blue Laguna found some legal way to host and sell copies of FMV’s on CD at a cost, possibly by merely charging for the cd/shipping/labour and not the songs. I’d happily pay to have firm backups of the music on the site.

#3: A purchasable download manager that allows you to download multiple albums at a time, rather than songs (Since I don’t think all albums are available for mass download).

Just a few concepts.

Those sound good to me. An alternative to what’s going on would be welcomed though. I like the merchandising idea. That’s pretty much what everyone else is doing. But one problem–I haven’t seen a new soundtrack on the site for about five months now. What gives? Did the site run out of space? Are you working on it?

I think they just had an update recently. Like in the past month.

see the "updates with gh" thread in the vgm forum. long story short: we’re working on rehauling the entire site, buying new hardware, and adding thousands of soundtracks.
