Rules in a nutshell:
1) At the start of each match, two entries will be presented.
2) You vote for one of the two in the current match.
3) The one with the most votes moves on to the next round.
4) If you vote for something that is not currently on the ballot, you will be subject to vicious mockery.
5) Bold your votes.
6) Updates will be made on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. (subject to change without notice)
Other stuff:
In the event of a tie, there are two methods that will be used to break it. Throughout the first round of competition, I will withhold my own votes and use them to break ties. Starting with the second round, I’ll start casting my own vote at the start of every match and use the percentage of votes each entry has received to date to determine the winner.
If you’ve thought of a group I didn’t and want it included, the list as it stands is now final. Plenty of notice was given to nominate entries. Don’t lose hope, however, for regular voting may earn you a chance to nominate a wild card entry later on.
Kicking off the first round:
Danger Service Agency (Mezzo DSA/Mezzo Forte) – They’ll take on any job as long as it meets two criteria: pays well and might get them all killed. Their members include Mikura, a female combat expert; Kurokawa, also called "Pops," who thinks of himself as the boss and has underworld connections; and Harada, the technical genius.
VS
Magic Club (Magic Users Club) – Though everyone thinks they’re only performing simple tricks, the magic club is actually performing real magic. It’s not all fun and games though, as they occasionally find themselves called upon (usually by their own president) to right the world’s wrongs. Members include: Takeo Takakura, the perverted club president; Ayanojyo Aburatsubo, the homosexual vice president who continually makes advances toward the extremely heterosexual Takakura; Sae Sawanoguchi, a new member of the club who’s short on brains, but long on enthusiasm; Nanaka Nakatomi, another new member who joined with Sae, but would rather be somewhere else; and Akane Aikawa, who generally just isn’t there, despite being extremely talented.

Man Ndi and I helped out too ๐
Ouch….. that hit the spot……
i know, but i pestered him daily to actully post it.
Yes.
Yes, indeed.
Danger Service Agency (Mezzo DSA/Mezzo Forte) – 6
Magic Club (Magic Users Club) – 3
Moving on.
TAC (Blue Seed) – The Terrestrial Administration Center may have an impressive-sounding name, but they’re actually an underfunded ragtag government agency dedicated to studying and fighting mythical monsters called Aragami. Their members include: Kunikida, the gruff middle-aged leader; Matsudaira, an accomplished scientist who studies the enemy and creates biological weapons to fight them; Takeuchi, a former cop; Sawaguchi, the hot-headed munitions expert; Yaegashi, the stereotypical nerdy computer genius; and Momiji, the descendant of the mythical Princess Kushinada, possessing the power to sense Aragami, though she can also be used as a human sacrifice to seal them away completely.
VS
Section 9 (Ghost in the Shell) – Originally organized for search and rescue operations, Section 9 grew into a counter-terrorist force, often taking cases related to cyber-terrorism and hacking. Their members include: Ishikawa, the intelligence and technology specialist; Togusa, the director of field operations; Batou, the lead investigator and a master of melee combat; and Kusanagi, a full-body cyborg specializing in combat and hacking.
Two government agencies this time. Big difference between them though.
Haven’t yet seen Blue Seed.
I’ll never get the GitS love, sorry guys.
yes i went THERE.
I liked some of the GiTS tv series episodes, and I dig the music, but the two films gave me a distinct "that’s it?" feeling
I liked some of the GiTS tv series episodes, and I dig the music, but the two films gave me a distinct "that’s it?" feeling
there’s 3 movies d00d.
smartass, imo. lolololololol
Section 9 (Ghost in the Shell) – 6
Let’s not have another 6-3 win guys. A little variety is good.
Millennion (Gungrave) – A huge crime syndicate built by the man called Big Daddy. At the core of the organization is the Millennion Family, the inner circle, personally selected by Big Daddy for their loyalty, skills, and faithful service. Key members include: Bear Walken, the organization’s most experienced sweeper; Bob Poundmax, gluttonous intelligence expert; Big Daddy, who founded the syndicate and works tirelessly for its properity; Harry MacDowell, an ambitious genius intent on climbing the ranks, who eventually succeeds in usurping control of Millennion; and Brandon Heat, a quiet and introspective man whose fierce loyalty and deadly skill quickly earn him a place as the organization’s top sweeper.
VS
The Host Club (Ouran High School Host Club) – A group of (mostly) male students who make money charming and entertaining the Ouran Academy’s female students. The members: Tamaki Suou, the club’s founder and president, is narcissistic, naive, and talks too much for his own good, but has a big heart and is completely dedicated to his host duties; Kyoya Ohtori, the vice president, is brilliant but abrasive; the Hitachiin twins, Hikaru and Kaoru, and cunning and michievous, using brotherly love as a gimmick to attract customers; Mitsukuni Haninozuka, short and cute, loves sweets and stuffed animals; Takashi Morinozuka, the silent and mysterious senior; and Haruhi Fujioka, a poor first-year girl who got pressed into the club’s service (for which she has to pretend to be a boy) after breaking an expensive vase.
There’s no parallel at all between these groups, so I have nothing to say.
The yaoi material from this group is overwhelming but also lollin’.
Poor Blue Seed ๐
Anyway….
Millennion
k.
Voting for Millennion.
Even my deeply puritanical nature can’t help but be corrupted by twincest, Hunny/Mori, Kyouya/Tamaki seme speculation.
Millennion (Gungrave) – 6
The Host Club (Ouran High School Host Club) – 5
Ginyu Force (Dragonball Z) – Although they’re the top minions of the interstellar tyrant, Frieza, how they got to that point is something of a mystery, since they seemingly spend more time practicing ridiculous poses than actually training. In the Japanese version, they’re all named after dairy products. The members are: Captain Ginyu, the body-switching leader; Burter/Butta, the tallest member of the team, who prides himself on his speed; Jeice/Jheese, an unremarkable pretty boy character; Recoome/Reacoom, big and dumb-looking, and tends to pose more often than the others; and Guldo/Gurd, small and comparatively weak, but possessing powerful psychic abilities.
VS
Paper Sisters (R.O.D the TV) – Though not related by blood, they maintain a stronger bond than most real siblings. They usually work as private detectives or bodyguards, but moonlight as agents for a powerful organization called Dokusensha, using their abilities to manipulate paper to hunt down and acquire rare books. The sisters are: Michelle Cheung, the oldest and leader of the group, who tends to be flighty and selfish, and specializes in ranged support; Maggie Mui, the shy and quiet middle sister, whose powers allow her to create a variety of paper "familiars" and form strong defensive barriers; and Anita King, the youngest sister, who forms the backbone of the team’s offense with her martial arts skills and paper blades, as well as keeps her more scatterbrained sisters from running wild.
Well, at least a DBZ group got included, even if they are about to get squashed.
Well, at least a DBZ group got included, even if they are about to get squashed.
Yes, yes they are.
I’m going to lol so bad when you get your legs ripped off by an adorable stuffed rabbit named Bun-Bun. Make sure you get a nice squishy wheelchair so you can update the Rumble in comfort.
Ginyu Force; Ginyu – yu + a = Gina.
Find the concept behind that one more interesting.
Gina Force is quite a terrifying prospect. jews and niggers accross the world beware!
voting for Paper Sisters, cos they arent the Ginyu Force.
Paper Sisters (R.O.D the TV) – 6
As expected, the Ginyu force is thoroughly (and deservedly) destroyed.
Next up:
Soyokaze Crew (Irresponsible Captain Tylor) – The misfits and rejects of the United Planets Space Force, assigned to a broken-down destroyer. Notable members include: Captain Justy Ueki Tylor, the ship’s captain, as well as the most lazy, irresponsible, and astonishingly lucky man alive; Lt. Commander Yamamoto, a straight-laced and ambitious military officer serving as second-in-command, constantly lamenting what a lousy captain he’s been cursed with; Lt. Commander Yuriko Star, another by-the-book officer and the only person who can keep Tylor in line; Harumi, the ship’s beautiful nurse, as well as a Raalgon spy sent to watch and eventually kill Tylor; and Jason, one of the marines stationed on the Soyokaze who wears a hockey mask and is sometimes seen carrying a chainsaw for no apparent reason.
VS
Project D (Initial D) – A street racing team comprised of the best drivers and mechanics in Japan’s Gunma prefecture, assembled to challenge and defeat other teams from around Japan. Notable members include: Ryosuke Takahashi, a famous street racer who, although capable of driving, is content to merely manage the team; Keisuke Takahashi, a hot-headed, but remarkably skilled driver specializing in uphill runs; and Takumi Fujiwara, a prodigious, albeit reluctant at first, racer who has defeated every opponent he’s faced.
I listed less than half of the Soyokaze crew, but I hope it’s enough to get the point across.
Played Initial D in arcade?
What kind of story/series can you get out of street racing? Fast/Furious :/
Wikipedia’d Soyokaze Crew.
Project D (Initial D) – 3
I am certainly glad I didn’t have to vote in this one. One way or another, if I had to break a tie there, someone was going to kill me in my sleep.
State Military (Fullmetal Alchemist) – Under the command of F???hrer Bradley, they go and wage wars and kill people and other military stuff that military types do. A few notable members are: Colonel Roy Mustang, a powerful alchemist, driven by guilt to climb through the ranks and change the country; Lieutenant Colonel Maes Hughes, a member of the Investigations Division, as well as an annoyingly doting father who never misses an opportunity to show off pictures of his daughter; Sheska, a former librarian whose love of reading and photographic memory allow her to reproduce virtually every document she’s ever seen; Zolf J. Kimblee, a cruel alchemist who was imprisoned for war crimes, but later pardoned and put back to work for the military; and Edward Elric, a gifted young alchemist known for siding with ordinary people where their interests conflict with the military’s.
VS
ACROSS (Excel Saga) – To save the world from the corruption eating away at its innards, ACROSS is determined to conquer it. Of course, such a grand scheme must naturally start small to see what obstructions may lie in wait on a larger scale, so they’ve decided to begin their conquest of the world with a single city. The Members are: Lord Ilpalazzo, the charismatic yet overdressed leader who sits on his "throne" in their sewer lair while his minions carry out his plans; Hyatt, a Martian princess with a bad habit of dying frequently; and Excel, a certifiably insane, excessively hyper, and obscenely enthusiastic teenage girl whose stupidity is the downfall of almost all of Ilpalazzo’s schemes.
This could be pretty tough. Sure the State Military has a diverse and well-developed bunch, but ACROSS is funny enough to have a chance if they can get past the whole never being on American television thing.
BUT, I’ve got to go where my heart lies, which means Roy Mustang… and Riza and Black Hayate ^__^
State Military!
ACROSS (Excel Saga) – 3
A completely undeserved, although not unexpected, thrashing of an entirely awesome organization.
No descriptions today due to time constraints. I’ll try to add them in tomorrow.
Dragons of Heaven (X)
VS
Magic Knights (Magic Knight Rayearth)
Have at it. Look them up if you’re not familiar with them.
Magic Knights
Tough choice though
Tough choice though
Dragons of Heaven (X) – 4
Magic Knights (Magic Knight Rayearth) – 5
It’s a battle of femme fatale duos this time. I’m not even going to bother listing the names of the shows this time, for what should be an extremely obvious reason.
Noir – The name Noir is famous in the underworld, having been held by some of the world’s finest assassins over the years. The newest Noir is a pair of young women, both fearsome killers in their own right, who have teamed up to unlock the mysteries of their respective and shared histories. Kirika Yuumura is a teenage girl with no memory of the past, but possessing extraordinary combat skills, driven to find out who she is and why murder comes as easily to her as breathing. Mireille Bouquet was born to an affluent family in Corsica, the leaders of a local crime syndicate, but was driven into exile after the murder of her parents and brother. After settling in Paris, she began learning her violent trade from her uncle.
VS
The Dirty Pair – Although their official codename is The Lovely Angels, they’re more often referred to by this moniker due to their nasty habit of leaving huge trails of collateral damage in their wake, a practice that isn’t well regarded for agents of a legitimate law enforcement agency. Yuri is the more even-tempered and feminine half of the duo, often paying more attention to her goal of marrying a rich and handsome man than her job, but she can dish out punishment with the best of them when needed. Kei is a fiery redhead with a love of heavy weapons and muscular men, most of whom are complete jerks.
This one ought to be interesting.
Tough choice once again.
Also Prak :-* to you for the Magic Knight vote
Also: I’m aware that my solitary vote would have been too little, too late, but still… voting down ACROSS?!
THE WORLD IS CORRUPT!!!
sorry for being shouty…
>.< damn it all to hell i missed like 5 rounds…
anyway. luckily, 99% of them all went according to what i was gonna vote anyway. with the only tough ones being ginyuVSpaper because how can you compare a group of awesome (paper) with a group of superhappyfuntimelaughs? i swear sometimes it’s like the sense of humor inside you all died. -_-
oh and yes, prak is very fortunate i didn’t have to kill him in that soyokaze round either. >=D
now i’m here to make sure future travesties don’t occur. and i hate you all if you vote the other way on account of me! (which i think happens always haha)
NOIR IS GAY! that show is so fucking lame. name one thing oriignal about it…boom! nothing.
DIRTY PAIR you fags!
The Dirty Pair – 5
Ktulu will be sad he missed this one. Also, welcome back, Tact.
Lagoon Company (Black Lagoon)
VS
Sorcerer Hunters (Sorcerer Hunters/Bakuretsu Hunter)
No descriptions again today. Sorry. Too busy to give it the works. If someone cares enough to write out a full entry, you can PM it to me and I’ll add it straight away.
Also, I’m putting rezo on notice. One of yours is up Wednesday, so you better show up to vote.
Lagoon Comp.
/me does a bit of research on the groups and their anime before voting
/me suggests everyone at LEAST watch a few random videos on the anime even to vote for those of us who have not seen either. an amv or two, opening credits. whatever. do it some decent justice!
lets see…apparently black lagoon also has chicks with guns (one?), but at least she doesn’t seem to have some stupid lame ass cliche problem of losing her memory or some bullcrap like that. (coughnoirisgaycough) oh and she’s fully developed too. better for us fanservice loving types. :p
and sorcerer hunters. ooh, loving the classic anime style. circa 1990’s. (lol at me trying to be all knowledgeable) has a very loyal dedicated fanbase… hmm. this is tough.
i vote for the veteran.
Sorcerer Hunters
No problem. I hope you feel better Prak.
Sorcerer Hunters (Sorcerer Hunters/Bakuretsu Hunter) – 3
Easy win for Lagoon Company. Also, everyone point and laugh at Arcanine for his retarded "maturity" comment.
Mitsuba Girls Junior College Judo Club (YAWARA!) – Okay, I’m sorry to say it, but info on this one is really scarce, but rezo recommended it, so it must be out there and I’m sure it’s good stuff. Hell, just what I’ve found so far has me really eager to actually see the show. Rezo, if you could write up something about it, that would be much appreciated.
VS
08th MS Team (Mobile Suit Gundam: 08th MS Team) – Engaged in a guerilla war in the jungles of southeast Asia, these soldiers must learn to fight under a new commander and stand against Zeon’s newest armaments in order to maintain control over the region and its valuable resources. Members include: Shiro Amada, the inexperienced and hopelessly idealistic young commander; Karen Joshua, the team’s hard-boiled second-in-command, doubling as a field medic; Terry Sanders Jr, also known as "Shinigami Sanders" or "Sanders the Reaper" due to his being the only survivor of several prior teams; Eledore Massis, operator of the team’s support vehicle.
Again, if rezo would be so kind as to write something up for the Yawara group, I’m sure we’d all appreciate it.
Also Prak, you forgot your [ /b]s
Also, that vote is a bit dubious since you voted for the show title instead of the group itself. I recommend correcting that since you can never tell when I’ll start being a stickler about that.
Also, that vote is a bit dubious since you voted for the show title instead of the group itself. I recommend correcting that since you can never tell when I’ll start being a stickler about that.
I’ll wait untill you get some more info on YAWARA! from rezo then, untill I make my final vote. *edits*
I started subbing the episode where they begin forming the club as a preview of the series for you guys, but it’s in the middle of the series(episode 58) and so it would spoil a whole lot for anyone who might be planning to watch it from the beginning later. Should I finish or just make a quick description instead?
08th MS team
Sure! I only regret not being able to show you all the jokes about what a strange and mysterious place Canada is.
Mitsuba Girls Junior College Judo Club- Inokuma Yawara is a Judo genius who is constantly wrangled into competitive competition even though she has no interest in it.She decides to quit to focus on school, and her similarly gifted(at ballet) friend Itou Fujiko who was forced to give up dancing because of her height* feels like Yawara is wasting her talent, so she forms a Judo club at their school to coax her back into the sport. It’s an all girl school and most of the people there pick fashionable clubs to meet guys, so no one wants to join… except for Hikage Kyouko: who is tiny and weak and wants to build up her strength, Yoshinagawa Sayuri: who is giant and wants to lose weight, Minamida Youko: who gets dumped a lot and is pulled into the club because she’s mistaken for being a Judo master and Oda Mari who wants to be able to fight off guys who grope her on buses. They aren’t all whipped into comically strong fighters who become the best in the world or anything, they mostly suck the whole time and the club ends when they have to start looking for work before graduation.
*Is 5’8" too tall for ballet?
08th MS Team (Mobile Suit Gundam: 08th MS Team) – 2
The Judo Club wins! Or is it that rezo wins? Either way, same result and everybody’s happy.
Close call for rezo himself though, as it did not appear he actually voted, but he bolded the name in the description he wrote, and that’s close enough for me!
Mithril (Full Metal Panic!) – Exactly why this mercenary group protects the Whispered and who pays them to do so, nobody knows. But they do it, and that’s enough for the story to go forward! Notable members include: Captain Teletha Testarossa, the young (and rather klutzy) genius captain of the Tuatha De Danaan; Andrei Kalinin, an old special forces soldier now serving as Operations Director on the De Danaan; Kurz Weber, mecha pilot and gifted marksman; and Sousuke Sagara, a young man who’s spent his childhood fighting wars and has no knowledge of civilian life, yet is chosen anyway to infiltrate a civilian school and protect one of the Whispered.
VS
L’s Investigative Team (Death Note) – To hunt down a supernatural killer, the legendary detective L recruits a bunch of mostly useless cops to do his legwork. Members include: L, an eccentric (to put it mildly) young detective who’s never failed to solve a difficult case; Soichiro Yagami, a middle-aged detective with a strong justice streak who serves as the official head of the investigation within the police force and also just happens to be the father of the killer they’re tracking; Tato Matsuda, a young, naive, and easily excitable cop who drives story progression by doing stupid things; and Watari, an old man who works alongside L, serving as a go-between between he and the police.
Mithril is better. I would vote for them if I could. The other doesn’t even fully meet my standards for admission.
anyway. going to give mithril some video look throughs before settling on anything. brb with an edit
edit: ok. i saw a few amv’s for FMP. yah prolly doesn’t do it justice at all i know. -_- sometimes a really good one really brings out the awesomness of some animes. but not impressed really. shit the damn wiki page couldn’t even explain wtf the whispered are.
plus i love the suspense and mind games between L and light and all those damn cliffhangers were fun as hell. lol "nooo! but what will happen next? what’s his plan? omg!" rofl. i love feeling emotions. :p
L’s Investigative Team
L’s Investigative Team (Death Note) – 2
And Tifa Rinoa wins the commemorative plaque for First Discarded Vote, although it didn’t affect the outcome at all. As I said before, don’t vote for a show, vote for the group. All future votes cast for a series will also be tossed into the dustbin.
Keroro Platoon (Sgt. Frog/Keroro) – After botching their race’s invasion of Earth, the five members of Keroro Platoon were left behind with no recourse but to reunite, find a way to survive on Earth, and finish the invasion on their own. The members are: Sergeant Keroro, the platoon’s lazy, yet clever and charismatic leader who’d rather spend his time building models than working; Corporal Giroro, the grizzled combat specialist; Private Tamama, the young physical combatant with a homosexual crush on Keroro; Seargeant Major Kururu, technically the highest-ranking member of the platoon, he serves as the intelligence officer when not indulging himself in juvenile pranks or perverted pursuits; and Lance Corporal Dororo, formerly trained as an assassin and now learning the way of the ninja.
VS
HOLY (s-CRY-ed) – To bring order to the Lost Ground, the home of super-powered Alter users, a special team of government-sanctioned Alter users, known as HOLY, was formed. Members include: Ryuho, a child of a wealthy family, driven to find and eliminate the Alter user who killed his mother; Mimori Kiryu, a young and idealistic scientist; Straight Cougar, the resident speed freak and rule-breaker; Urizane, a silly fat guy who makes watermelons do a lot of really weird things; Martin Sigmar, commander of HOLY and one of the oldest known Alter users.
i especially hated shirecee or whatever. aah! it was maddening how they looked down upon anyone who wasn’t in holy like some trash. that just made me wanna kick them all in their face. >.<
keroro platoon
I lol’d.
But my vote still goes to Keroro Platoon
I don’t really win until the Judo Club wins the entire competition. Eh? Eh? If you put the Tokyo Mets in let me know and I can try to get an episode ready for you guys to watch before it comes up. If not then ignore that.
Also:
Someone pointed out to me that the fansubs for episodes 2-20 or Yawara! are up on Veoh, so you can check them out. The Judo club doesn’t show up until episode 58(which supposedly is also the last episode that was subbed) but it’s a chance to get an idea of what the series is like before the official release.
The site is acting up for me right now so I’m not sure, but I think this is the link (http://www.veoh.com/channels/Yawara) to the page that has the episodes; if not then they’ll come up in a regular search. If the link works then the one that starts showing when you first get there might be episode 20.
HOLY (s-CRY-ed) – 1
Big win.
Squad 7 (Naruto) VS The Genshiken (Genshiken)
Another day with no descriptions, this time because I’m lazy. If anyone cares, they can fill it in. I would recommend that you guys read up on them before you vote, but I’m sure everyone is either going to vote for or against the Naruto group regardless of what the other is, so it probably doesn’t matter this time.
But I did some reading up on Genshiken and it seemed more interesting and more like something I can relate to (because I’m also a college student who loves anime).
So it looks like I’ll be voting for Genshiken.
read up on both. like this more.
Genshiken, btw.
Squad 7 (Naruto) – 1
The Genshiken (Genshiken) – 7
The problem, Wraith, is that you seem to like the sort of thing where the majority of fans never read what anyone else posts. Therefore, they don’t vote in this rumble since posting in here without reading anything is pretty much impossible.
Gunsmith Cats (Gunsmith Cats) – These two young women run a successful gun shop by day, but their real income is earned through bounty hunting, and they’re damn good at it. They also make a lot of really dangerous enemies, but that’s half the fun. Rally Vincent knows everything there is to know about firearms, loves driving her GT500 really recklessly, and has a reputation as the best bounty hunter in Chicago. "Minnie" May Hopkins is a diminutive former prostitute and explosives expert whose exuberant personality gets her in trouble as often as it charms someone.
VS
Area 88 mercs (Area 88) – Bound by a strict three-year service contract, these skilled pilots live and work together on the Area 88 airbase, fighting on the front lines of a long and bloody war. Though they’re essentially in competition with one another for money earned from shooting down enemies, these mercenaries work together enough to qualify as a team. Some of the pilots are: Shin Kazama, perhaps the best pilot at the base, was tricked into signing the contract by his best friend and has to earn a ridiculous amount of money to buy his freedom; Mickey Simon, an arrogant, yet undeniably skilled American pilot who signed on due to doubts about his ability to return to civilian life after serving in Vietnam; Kim Aoba, a young boy whose inexperience limits his acceptance on the base, yet is able to fly with the best; and Greg Gates, a Danish mercenary who seems to be impossible to kill, yet seems to try pretty hard to make it happen with his oft-annoying antics.
I really hate to see one of these go.
Gunsmith Cats (Gunsmith Cats)
Sorry Prak, but one has to go!
Area 88 mercs
either way i couldn’t get into it.
gunsmith cats
Area 88 mercs (Area 88) – 2
Nice turnout this time, although I guess that’s no shock since I’m rather late with the update again.
Another quickie this time. Most people are probably familiar with both groups or will at least be able to get info on them easily.
Straw Hat Pirates (One Piece) VS Team Rocket (Pokemon)
I hope this one is a little more competitive.
All the giant robots and stuff they had unlimited access to was awesome.
James: And make it double!
Jessie: To protect the world from devastation!
James: To unite all peoples within our nation.
Jessie: To denounce the evils of truth and love!
James: To extend our reach to the stars above!
Jessie: Jessie!
James: James!
Jessie: Team Rocket, blast off at the speed of light!
James: Surrender now or prepare to fight!
Meowth: Me-owth! Dat’s right!
Wobbuffet: Wooooooooobbuffet!
Chimecho: Chime, Chime!
you can’t go wrong with team rocket.

Team Rocket (Pokemon) – 5+1
So it comes to me again. I honestly don’t care which one wins and I think they both have pretty equal merit, so it comes to the great equalizer. No, not the coin. Team Rocket gets my vote because I’ve watched some Pokemon episodes and they’ve made me laugh. I’ve never watched One Piece, so the Straw Hats have never made me laugh. Laughs win, therefore Team Rocket Wins.
Jindai High Rugby Club (Full Metal Panic! Fumoffu) – They may be big guys, but the rugby club are all sissies who spend their time cleaning and decorating the club room or doing calisthenics and picking up small rocks from the rugby field because they’re too afraid of getting hurt to practice tackling. However, the combined problems of abuse from an opposing team and the threat of their club being disbanded bring them under the guidance of Sosuke Sagara, whose boot-camp-like training turns them into vicious (and rather hilarious) killers. The individual members are irrelevant.
VS
Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (Gatchaman/G-Force/Battle of The Planets/etc) – Formed by Dr. Nambu to oppose the evil organization known as Galactor, this group of teenage superheroes wields a vast array of gadgets and mecha in their fight to save Earth’s natural resources. The members are: Ken, the team’s reckless leader; Joe, the team’s chief gunner and second-in-command; Jun, specializing in hacking and demolitions; Jinpei, the pre-teen reconaissance expert; and Ryu, who pilots their main vehicle and serves as a back-up combatant.
The rugby club is kind of an odd thing to include, but I did it for two reasons. One is that it’s a gift to Bryan for his efforts in getting this rumble running. The other is that I laughed for about half an hour after watching the episode they were in.

Jindai High Rugby Club (Full Metal Panic! Fumoffu) – 7
Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (Gatchaman/G-Force/Battle of The Planets/etc) – 5
What a startling upset…
Class 4 (Great Teacher Onizuka) – Though they seem perfectly normal at first glance, this junior high class is well-renowned for their ability to terrorize teachers into madness, at least until they cross paths with Onizuka. Notable members include: Noboru Yoshikawa, a relatively small and weak kid who gets bullied frequently and is good at video games; Kunio Murai, an easily excitable jock with a mother complex; Yoshito Kikuchi, resident genius and computer whiz; and Urumi Kanzaki, a malevolent super-genius with a massive grudge against teachers.
VS
Those Who Hunt Elves (Those Who Hunt Elves) – After three random people are accidentally teleported from earth to a strange alternate universe, the spell meant to send them back goes awry, splits into several fragments, and imprints itself on the skin of several elves across the world. Now in order to get home, this trio (and the elf priestess accompanying them) must travel the lands in their tank (yes, they have a tank), seeking out and stripping elves to recover the spell fragments. The members are: Junpei Ryuzouji, a 19 year old curry-obsessed martial artist; Ritsuko Inoue, a 16 year old high school student and gun nut; Airi Komiyama, a 24 year old American-born actress who uses her intelligence and acting/disguise talents when trickery is needed; and Celcia Marie Claire, the elven high priestess who botched the spell to send the travellers home and and now must gather the spell fragments they find onto her own body, which has unfortunately become stuck in the shape of a dog until the pieces are all gathered.
Has anyone actually seen Those Who Hunt Elves? If you haven’t, you should. Same with GTO, but more so for TWHE.
and i’ve read about twhe before and loved the idea. but have yet to see it. the reason i’m still very exited about it is cause i think i’ll get lots of good fanservice as they strip elves left and right. ๐ not sure if there really is that though. but hoping there is. :p
those who hunt elves
Class 4 (Great Teacher Onizuka) – 8
Those Who Hunt Elves (Those Who Hunt Elves) – 7
A very close round there, but now we’ll get back to the slaughterhouse.
Knight Sabers (Bubblegum Crisis)
VS
Star Leaf crew (Gall Force)
I guess everyone’s used to half-assed updates by now.
Knight Sabers
<—-Is a Bubblegum Crisis fan.
Knight Sabers (Bubblegum Crisis) – 10
Star Leaf crew (Gall Force) – 0
For the record, the Knight Sabers are one of my predicted top three contenders for the final victory. Moving along…
The God Hand (Berserk)
VS
The Get Backers (Get Backers)
I’d say the God Hand’s inclusion is a bit questionable, but no matter really. They may lack in characterization, but they have plenty of style, gruesome as that style may be.
I’m probably not bothering with basic descriptions anymore at this point. Anyone who wants to know more can wiki it. I’ll probably do some more of the (hopefully) humorous ones later on though.
I was never a big fan of Berserk and Get Backers actually sounds pretty good
and i don’t care for the other thing either even though it sounds cool from the wiki descriptions.
thanks. helps a lot. still not voting though. :p unless guts himself is in a group then we got something. :p
The God Hand (Berserk) – 5
The Get Backers (Get Backers) – 3
Juppongatana (Rurouni Kenshin)
VS
Angel Brigade (Galaxy Angel)
This one is hella easy to predict.
Angel Brigade
how can i NOT vote for a dating sim. :p (i knew it sounded familiar…) hehe
Juppongatana (Rurouni Kenshin) – 2
Angel Brigade (Galaxy Angel) – 4
NERV – Evangelion
VS
Dragons of Earth – X
I expect more votes this time, if only because everyone and their pet goldfish has seen Evangelion.
This is going to be extremely one sided
dragons of earth vs dreagons of heaven. :p
btw. when we say nerv, doens’t that automatically mean like every single damn character in the whole anime? or at least that fucking matters? O_o lol. it’s like "evangelion" vs "some people".
ah well. i know who i’m going for.
dragons of earth
Dragons of Earth (X) – 7
Pretty much exactly what I was expecting. Man, if I were a less scrupulous sort, I could stack these matches to come up with the winner I want every time.
Baka Rangers (Negima!)
VS
The Miko Council (Shrine of the Morning Mist)
Dragons of Earth (X) – 7
Pretty much exactly what I was expecting. Man, if I were a less scrupulous sort, I could stack these matches to come up with the winner I want every time.
Baka Rangers (Negima!)
VS
The Miko Council (Shrine of the Morning Mist)
fine by me if you make the sailor scouts win. :p
no vote for me. woudln’t be fair.
The Miko Council (Shrine of the Morning Mist) – 0
One cannon fodder group eliminates another cannon fodder group in an entirely forgettable round. Moving on to something more interesting.
SOS Brigade (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya)
VS
Basroil Crew (Banner of the Stars)
What an unfortunate draw for me. If this one somehow comes to a tiebreaker, I will do whatever it takes to not have to choose.
Sorry for not voting last time
And incidentally, if neither group in a match gets a single vote, I’ll just eliminate both of them and put something new in.
Basroil Crew
SOS Brigade (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) – 5 6
Basroil Crew (Banner of the Stars) – 5
Division 2 (Patlabor)
VS
DS-12 "Toy Box" (Planetes)
This is probably going to be a tough choice for some people. Feel my pain, you bastards!
Division 2
Division 2
Division 2 (Patlabor) – 5
DS-12 "Toy Box" (Planetes) – 2
Hellsing (Hellsing)
VS
TERRA (RahXephon)
I anticipate a crushing victory in favor of Hellsing, although a couple of people that I don’t usually like to associate with are bound to vote for TERRA.
TERRA (RahXephon) – 0
So much for my legendary prediction accuracy.
Tank Police (Dominion: Tank Police)
VS
Sailor Soldiers/Warriors/Scouts/Whatthefuckever (Sailor Moon)
gogogo
Soliders
lol’d
Sailor Soldiers/Warriors/Scouts/Whatthefuckever (Sailor Moon) – 5
Quite a slaughter. Let’s do it again.
Samurai Troopers/Ronin Warriors
VS
Anti-Earth Union Group/AEUG (Zeta Gundam)
Anyone not voting for AEUG risks me frowning at them very disappointedly.
AEUG
this here is my contribution to "the cause". details of "the cause" should already be known to prak. and this here…"favor" should serve as payment for "the cause" if you know what i mean.
smftw
Anti-Earth Union Group/AEUG (Zeta Gundam) – 7
Trent and Anyname, I am frowning at you. Bryan does not get a special frown since I always do that at him anyway.
STN-J (Witch Hunter Robin)
VS
The Four Divine Kings (Bastard!!)
Once more unto the breach.
Love the Shakespeare quote btw.
i love you too <3
for sure!
The Four Divine Kings (Bastard!!) – 5
This is unexpectedly decisive.
Space Knights (Tekkaman Blade)
VS
Great Gurren Brigade (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann)
So you like Shakespeare references, Erebus? Wanna know how often you’ll see them?
Quoth the raven, "Nevermore."
 *Sigh* too bad
Great Gurren Brigade
tits. i mean…yah i vote for tits
Space Knights (Tekkaman Blade) – 3
Great Gurren Brigade (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann) – 6
Tits – 1
Tits lose? What kind of faggotry is this?
Dangaioh team (Dangaioh)
VS
Attacked Mystification Police Force (Silent Mobius)
I hate to come back into this after a delay with such a weak match, but I want to keep the big one to close out round 1.
lol @ prak’s post
I’d vote tits but I got to keep this serious
Attacked Mystification Police Force (Silent Mobius) – 6
Weirdness abounds this time. I honestly have no idea how these two wound up in here (probably requested by someone) but it should make for a somewhat amusing round. Adding a description again this time because it’s probably needed.
Zein Organization (Slayers Return) – Hardcore spoilers here. I mean it. Seriously.A criminal syndicate bent on world domination, but turns out to be nothing more than two guys scheming in a run-down shack, hiring mercenaries they can’t afford to pay to do their dirty work. The leader’s ultimate attack spell summons a meteor from space to hurtle toward the earth, which does nothing but streak through the atmosphere so he can wish on a falling star for victory.
VS
Gung-Ho Guns (Trigun)
Yeah, this round is pretty screwy. I honestly have no idea how the Zein Organization got on the list (although it’s funny that they did) and I really don’t think the Gung-Ho-Guns have a strong enough group dynamic to qualify, but I really can’t be arsed to dig up new entries.
In other news, Monday’s update will be the final match of Round 1.
cus Slayers > Trigun
fucking slayers forever!
I think ffs has a fair amount of Slayers nuts!
Gung-Ho Guns (Trigun) – 2
Astonishing stupidity wins the day and all’s right with the world. EDIT: Nice last-minute vote, Ndi.
Band of the Hawk (Berserk)
VS
Student Council (Revolutionary Girl Utena)
And this one will close out the first round. Update may be late.
band of the hawk
Band of the Hawk
Student Council (Revolutionary Girl Utena) – 1
Yeah, the update is a bit tardy, but I’ve been busy. If you don’t like it, go sob quietly in a secluded corner where I won’t have to watch and feel guilty.
While trying to come up with a theme for this round, the best I could think of was "Anime vs Chuck Norris". If this sucks, let me know. If you like Chuck Norris and don’t want me to kill him 6 times a week, your opinion is discounted.
Millennion (Gungrave) – Having become aware of Chuck’s assault well in advance, Bob Poundmax has prepared a special greeting for him. Though Chuck valiantly battles his way through a horde of vicious Orgmen, he is no match for the wall of bullets that greets him on the other side.
VS
The Four Divine Kings (Bastard!!) – Before Chuck even takes two steps forward, he has been incinerated by Arshes Nei and diced by Gara. Kall-Su gets pissy about not getting a turn, while Abigail blathers to no one in particular about something else entirely.
I think everyone knows how this will end.
(also millennion)
The Four Divine Kings (Bastard!!) – 0
A more thorough ass-kicking, I have seldom seen.
Chuck Norris failed to amuse me significantly, so trying something else. I guess I’ll just point out moments of glory for each group.
Class 4 (Great Teacher Onizuka) – Although their plans are usually foiled by Onizuka, they have pulled some neat stunts. The one that stands out most to me is probably the perverse composite photos of Onizuka.
VS
Band of the Hawk (Berserk) – Oh screw it. When I think of Berserk, I keep coming back to that dubbing outtake where Sir Adon looks at the incoming Hawks and yells "Dammit! All my base are belong to them!" That was infinitely better than anything in the actual show.
Sorry for the late update. I’ll try to do better, even though you all know I’ll miss more updates no matter what I say.
Band of the Hawk (Berserk) – 4
I make an update on time for once and there’s only four votes? Are you all just expecting me to be late now and not bothering to make sure you vote on time?
Attacked Mystification Police Force (Silent Mobius) – As I have not seen any of Silent Mobius, the only accomplishment of theirs I’m familiar with is their unremarkable feat of staying beneath my radar.
VS
Magic Knights (Magic Knight Rayearth) – Lots of heroes in lots of tales have saved lots of princesses from lots of perils by killing lots of nasty bad guys. These three, however, are the only heroes I know of who got so kill-crazed that they whacked the princess they were trying to save.
If there are only four votes again, I’m going to frown disapprovingly. I mean it.
Going with Magic Knights
I really thought I’d voted in the last one. I must’ve just checked and not voted. ๐ My apologies!
Attacked Mystification Police Force (Silent Mobius) – 2
Magic Knights (Magic Knight Rayearth) – 7
Not a surprising result at all. And I expect a repeat here.
SOS Brigade (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) – Well, I could list various bits of awesomeness like the battle against the giant camel cricket or the most thoroughly rigged baseball game since an old movie called It Happens Every Spring, but I think the thing that stood out most to me was the outrageously/hilariously bad student film the brigade produced.
VS
Lagoon Company (Black Lagoon) – I haven’t seen much of this show, but I have to admit (for better or worse) that I’ve never seen another show where people in a boat shot down a helicopter with a torpedo.
Yeah, not much of a contest here for me. I’ll throw in the first vote for the SOS Brigade.
YOU WONT GET ANY BANDWAGONING FROM ME CAPS
Though I do like Black Lagoon.
Lagoon Company (Black Lagoon) – 1
Butts have been liberally kicked in good measure! If you don’t get that reference, kill yourself now.
Mitsuba Girls Junior College Judo Club (YAWARA!) – Well, there was the time they did the thing with the people at the place because someone did something and I don’t have a fricking clue because I can’t find the show to watch it.
VS
The God Hand (Berserk) – Anyone remember that time they sent their legion of monsters out to slaughter the Band of the Hawk while they turned Griffith into one of them? You bloody well better, as it’s pretty much the only thing they did in the show.
Even with Rezo’s support, I just can’t vote for a show that’s so scarce, making this probably the only time I’ll vote for the God Hand.
The God Hand (Berserk) – 6
Judo doesn’t seem to work on demons.
Jindai High Rugby Club (Full Metal Panic! Fumoffu) – I could talk about them picking pebbles off the rugby field so none of them will trip while they practice or training for the big game, but I think the part everyone remembers most is them marching onto the field in combat fatigues and proceeding to mercilessly destroy their rivals in ways that would make John Madden look like Richard Simmons.
VS
Gunsmith Cats (Gunsmith Cats) – If only the manga counted, I could talk about how they’ve practically blown up half of Chicago over its run. Alas, only the 3 episode OVA series counts here, so I guess the big moment for them is chasing a Russian assassin through a construction site in a scenario that reminds me a bit of a long Spy Vs Spy strip.
I really like GSC, but I don’t know if I can justify voting for them just on the merits of the OVA, and Bryan would sent a Russian assassin my way if I didn’t vote for the rugby club. Therefore, Rugby Club it is.
I cannot imagine how awesomely hilarious it would be if they won another round.
Gunsmith Cats (Gunsmith Cats) – 3
Looks like a CZ-75 and hand grenade don’t actually have enough power to knock down a charging rugby player. And the underdogs plow forward once again.
Knight Sabers (Bubblegum Crisis) – Most of their battles are pretty similar, but since they all involve chicks in form-fitting powered armor suits whomping (That’s such a fun word to say aloud. Go ahead and try it!) mutated robots, the cool factor is consistently high.
VS
Anti-Earth Union Group/AEUG (Zeta Gundam) – If you’ve seen one epic Gundam battle, you’ve pretty much seen em all. Outnumbered heroes wage a desperate struggle against an enemy who’s just pulled a giant superweapon out of their ass. The AEUG’s big battle, however, is notable because more annoying characters get arbitrarily killed off than in most other shows.
Voting for Knight Sabers.
The God Hand (Berserk) – 6
Judo doesn’t seem to work on demons.
YOU’RE ALL JERKS. EXCEPT FOR ASAMIYA.
Asamiya isn’t a jerk.
I’m tired of pointing out that eltonjohn24 is a moron. Someone else can do it from now on.
Knight Sabers (Bubblegum Crisis) – 5
Anti-Earth Union Group/AEUG (Zeta Gundam) – 0
Yowch. After two rounds, the Knight Sabers still have a perfect record.
Sailor Soldiers/Warriors/Scouts/Whatthefuckever (Sailor Moon) – What’s to tell? They spend all their combat time either running from monsters or shooting repetitive attacks at them… episode after episode after episode, season after season after season.
VS
Dragons of Earth (X) – Not much to talk about when they hardly did anything as a group.
I’d vote for the Dragons of Heaven if they were in it, but given the choices, I have to vote for the Sailor Whatsits.
Sailor Things
:p
Dragons of Earth (X) – 3
Back to the grind I go.
Great Gurren Brigade (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann) – In one of the greatest stealth operations in history, they managed to sneak onto the scene while staying off my radar. In other words, I’ve never watched the show, so I can’t comment.
VS
Mithril (Full Metal Panic!) – Oh, so many fantastic moments of glory, like the one where they went in to support Sosuke as he saved the day. Or the one where they got their butts kicked until Sosuke came to save the day. And there was the one where Sosuke got his butt kicked and they showed up just in time to get their butts kicked, giving Sosuke the time he needed to save the day.
Voting for Mithril.
Great Gurren Brigade
If they produce Tetogulaffu, I may reconsider.
Mithril (Full Metal Panic!) – 7
Pretty thorough smashing there.
Section 9 (Ghost in the Shell)
VS
Danger Service Agency (Mezzo DSA/Mezzo Forte)
None of my usual pathetic attempts at humor because I’m way too busy for it. Next update will be on Friday.
I don’t really care which one wins, but I’m obligated to cast a vote, so I’ll vote for the DSA in protest against Gina’s disappearance. If she emerges before this match ends, I’ll change my vote.
VS.
The Sekihotai (赤報隊) (Japanese political extremists in the Bakumatsu (幕末), the Japanese civil war in the 1860’s.)
from Rurouni Kenshin
I am not sure whether this pairing has been suggested. (If so, ignore it) But thanks anyway.
I apologize, I did read the initial post but I misinterpreted.
Sorry again.
That having been said I cast my vote for SECTION 9
Had a busy week. Here is my vote.
Danger Service Agency (Mezzo DSA/Mezzo Forte) – 4
What a shocker, eh?
State Military (Fullmetal Alchemist)
VS
Baka Rangers (Negima!)
Ok, now that the site’s problems seem to be ironed out and I have a little free time, I’ll try to get back on pace here.
It begins and ends with the State Military.
State Military (Fullmetal Alchemist) – 7
Baka Rangers (Negima!) – 2
Keroro Platoon (Sgt. Frog/Keroro)
VS
Team Rocket (Pokemon)
I’ll probably resume writing out descriptions on Friday, but I just can’t be bothered today.
Also, I’d like to take this opportunity to announce that this will likely be my last anime rumble. I’m not going to pick someone to take over just yet, but feel free to toss your name into the hat if you want to try it.
also. for whatever happens to the rumbling in general, i think it’d be great if we just dind’t have one for a good while. i think even i’m getting a bit tired of it. so imagine the ones responsible for it.
lets plan one for next year. :p
For now, I’m closing the thread, but if anyone wants to finish it off, you can send me a PM asking for my materials. Alternatively, someone can start a new rumble. Just remember that I’m not putting it in the hands of someone who isn’t an established regular or anyone that won’t put a bit of effort into it.
