FFSHRINE YOU ARE MY LAST HOPE

Ok so ive spent my weekend trying to get the tournesol.
if i remember correctly it requires 3 gemsteels, 3 serpentarius, and 3 empyreal souls,

montablanc gives you 1 of each for rewards, which ive sold immidiately.
so my logic is that i should only need 2 of each item right?

so i get all the necessary items selling them as i obtain them.
After awhile all i need are 2 empyreal souls, i get the items, i get the empyreal souls,
I sell them and….. no tournesol
wtf….
does anyone know what i did wrong?

Some of the items overlap. If you sell them in the right order, you can save yourself some items. If you sell them in the wrong order, you can screw yourself 🙁

This is why I kept everything until I had all the items for a given recipe. Sure, I went without money for some stretches, and my inventory was precarious and referred to as my precious, but I always got what I wanted.

So are you saying that silfur is screwed, Knegative?

Not TOTALLY. Though, it’ll be hard to tell what he has sold enough of already. Unless he suddenly remembers.

You have to be careful selling High Arcanas, as they’re used in several recipes. It’s highly likely the bazaar used them in a different package instead of the Tournesol. I don’t think the Serpentarius is used in anything else…I’m not sure about the Empyreal Soul, but the High Arcana is used in at least four recipes, I’m fairly certain.

This is off the top of my head, but if you bought an Elixir through the Bazaar, you’ve definitely used up that High Arcana.

Just to answer this question.

In the Bazaar many items overlap, thus if you sell and item used in more than one Bazaar loot package it will in fact go to everything. If two Bazaar loot packages required 1 wold pelt each and you sold one to the Bazaar, then both of those packages now have the wold pelt needed to create it.

You don’t need to sell two pelts just because two different packages require one each. The game creators aren’t that evil.

The overlapping items have to be sold at the same time in order to be used in multiple recipes. If you sell an excess number of anything, the extras are lost and the count is reset to zero after it fulfills a recipe. I experimented with some cheaper recipes and found it to be true. That’s why a lot of people are careful to sell the Gemsteels at the same time because they’re used in multiple recipes; instead of five, you’ll only need three (unless you sold them off one by one or sold either the two or three at different times). It’s annoying and confusing, but I do believe the game creators were evil at this aspect.

I wish I would have known this during my first playthrough, but the only way to fully utilize the bazaar is by being very careful about what you sell or you’ll get screwed.

So many of these little gotchas like this seem to be coming up in this game. Like this, the Zodiac Spear, the Viera you have to encourage in a certain way in Rabanastre, etc. Somebody should put together a document here listing them all.

Although people are very unhappy with the Brady Guide, when it comes to side quests and little needed things (such as the Zodiac Spear and the Viera) the game guide is quite useful. I do have one, but not with me at the moment. (Other wise I would post a side-quest thread).

The guide defiantly gives you the necessary actions to take in acquiring the many different side-quests.

If no one is up for the task I can defiantly take it over. I wouldn’t mind making and updating a side-quest thread. Let me know if I should. I don’t want to start one when someone else already is.

the conversations with ktjn are kind of a trick, your supposed to say the worst thing you can to her, until the last one, in order to get the best reward..i wont say what it is. but these are the answers you should give.

Q1…"yes,you should be ashamed".
Q2…"you should’ve thought it through".
Q3…"it’ll never happen".
Q4…"i think its a good idea".

i got a really good item from answering like this, i wont say what it was so as to not spoil it. but i think thats the way you answer for the best gift.

also if this needs to be moved to a side quest forum then il do that, but im not sure i can do it..

also, one other thing i know, when you defeat a mark, its the one in the mines thats like the snake, you get a loot called serpentine skin or something, i hadnt sold it and when i was giving ingredients to that women in the dalmasca villege place, she asked for it, so if you give her that i think it improves your award when you complete the task. sorry for all the also’s i did.

hahaha, I screwed up answering the Vierra’s questions AND I sold that damned Marilith Serpent Skin…My first playthrough was a giant "OH NOW I GET IT. DAMN IT."

Luckily I did a LOT of research before even BEGINNING my second game.
