I really feel that with this soundtrack 1 loop is better than 2, especially for vocal tracks.

Why? Does FileFactory not work for you?
You’re welcome. I hope you are enjoying the music. =)
I think FileFactory doesn’t work for him because you have to pay a membership fee before you can join and download the songs. At least that’s my problem.
…Whoops. My bad. Ok I figured it out now.
No, just get WinRAR (http://www.rarsoft.com) it’s free and easy to use.
I’ll break the other two files up into multiple archives so I can upload them to RapidShare tomorrow.
Hm… I can’t get WinRAR to work… What exactly do I click on the page?
I’m using Mac. That might be the problem.
At the WinRAR homepage, go to Downloads, and download WinRAR 3.71.
It should look like this:
WinRAR 3.71 Graphic and command line Trial 1178 KB
Once you do, install it and you’re all set. Right click the file and extract…I suppose that’s really it.
EDIT: Oh, thanks. XD
RAR 3.71 for Mac OS X Command line only Trial 607 KB
Use that I suppose…Though it may be incompatible? o.o

I ended up downloading UnRarX but thanks anyways. =)
What is the most popular section then? :3
And I feel offended that Kirby’s so low. I would do something about it when I feel like it. XD
So did that Famicom Medley list check out or you’re still seeing? Soccer I know is correct, and the others sound reasonable. But the only source is by really verifying it.
I think the Zelda and Fire Emblem ones are my favorite.
The most popular are the first pack which is mostly original music for Super Smash Bros. Brawl and second place goes to the Super Mario Bros. tracks.

I’ve been able to confirm all of the tracks, your information was spot on, good job!

Just about any remix of music from a game I’ve played is my favorite. This is a great soundtrack and it sounds so much better as a whole with only one loop, I’m glad you think so too. =)
And yeah I’ve tried to Kirby files from FileFactory and it works fine.
But one thing, I know this is kind of small, but you kind of mixed up the two Jungle Levels. Ver. 2 should be the one with the people chanting at the beginning, but you have it the other way around.
I just downloaded everything from Skunk’s set and now I find something tagged even better? How did you tag the artist on non-arranged tracks? ;_;
(This soundtrack searching is frustrating)

I didn’t. The game doesn’t list an artist and neither do I, this make it much easier to figure out which tracks are arranged and which one are not. These are all taken directly from the information given in the in-game sound test so they are completely accurate. Also each song only loops once, which makes things much more amazing, especially because vocal tracks have very obvious loops. Having each track play once and fade-out makes things much better.

Wow, thanks so much for pointing this out! The problem has been corrected and the files have been reuploaded. =D
Thanks! :3
Thanks! :3
I don’t think you need to upload anything if all you’re doing is changing the tags. Lots of people are going to tweak the tags of anything they download anyway. Besides there are already so many different versions of this soundtrack floating around, that throwing another into the mix would be a little redundant.
Also I prefer to not mix and match the artist because in the case of this soundtrack artist = arranger, not composer. That’s my personal preference. If the game gave credit to both the composer and the arranger, I’d have tag them differently, but sadly it does not. If a track has not been arranged it is simply listed as "Original", meaning the original version of the song without any arrangement.
Oh, and I’d rather not tag anything as "Original" cuz that’d look real ugly on my last.fm feed
Yeah, I didn’t either. I’d rather have it blank. That is just how Nintendo listed those tracks in the sound test, rather than dig up the information on who originally composed each tune. =/
Uh, so I have an odd request for you. Don’t feel like I’m trying to obligate you or anything, but can you zip up all the tracks with vocals into one folder and upload it? I don’t mind the multiple loops as long as there’s no words and it would be a real pain to download all of yours just to pick out those ones.
Of course, if it would take too long to do by all means don’t do it, it’s just a request ^_^
For the rest I’m just going to edit the tracknames to match yours. Yours look a hell of a lot neater to me 😀
May I ask why you want to just pick out the vocal tracks?
And yeah, any vocal tracks, regardless of language and stuff please 🙂
EDIT: Oh, and can you throw melee stages – Battlefield in there too? Skunk’s was corrupted.
That would be a cool idea, Cyantre.
It will take me time to finish the remaining tracks, but soon you’ll be able to pick and choose the tracks you wish to download, just give me a little time. =)
Thanks, you’re a doll 😀
EDIT: Oh wait, still Filefactory. Couldn’t you just put them up on your hosting or do you think you’d end up with too much server strain?
Well…
Well there are a few songs from Metroid that have short vocal intros. A majority of the vocal tracks are from Sonic the Hedgehog. However, Pikmin and WarioWare, Inc. have some vocal songs too, but some in Japanese and French. Do you want those too?
May I ask why you want to just pick out the vocal tracks?
Considering those are the ones I need… Metroid, Sonic, Pikmin, Fire Emblem and WarioWare I guess ^.^
that would make my life complete 😀
Well I have a completely different track order and my names match those given in the US version of the game. I don’t think anyone here besides me has the correct and updated English titles. If you’re going to try and mix and match it’s going to take you quite a while. You’d probably just be better off getting my version, as everything is already tagged correctly and the quality of the MP3s are higher. If you want to listen to a song twice, just listen to it twice. Most of the tracks are long enough in just the one loop, which is why the two loops version felt excessive, it also took up 2x as much space.
Oh well! I’ll get as much as I can done and then tackle the rest when I’m reunited with my Wii 🙂
Well Skunk has been too busy with SFX to update the tracks names, though I think someone else in that thread is suppose to manage that. Whatever the case, I wasn’t happy with what was offered so I re-encoded and re-organzied everything.
This is fun. I love retagging!
Squeak Battle – Kirby: Squeak Squad
Easton Kingdom – Super Mario Land
Super Mario Bros. Medley
Bob-Omb Battle field
(You have
3-05 | Main Theme (Super Mario 64)
3-07 | Ground Theme 2 (Super Mario Bros.)
3-11 | Underground Theme (Super Mario Land)
)
Donkey Kong Medley – Donkey Kong
Stickerbrush Symphony – Donkey Kong Country
(You have
5-04 | Bramble Blast
5-09 | Opening (Donkey Kong)
)
Skunk’s 3 Subspace steps are named wrong, and she has something tagged Danger Ahead! I can’t match just yet. There’s a disproportionate number of Boss Battle themes, or I was just too hasty. Couldn’t find her All-Star Rest Area or Battlefield Ver.2. And then her Battlefield (Melee) was corrupt.
Other than that, she seems to have a myriad of things not included in sound test, extra theme for Sonic, KK themes, different arrangements and the like). A lot of this can be my human error too.
Thanks so much for your help though! I’m down to around 20 that need fixings, and that’s a good shot down from 250-some.
If you look at the track list in my thread and Skunk’s thread it shouldn’t be too hard to decipher which track correlates to which. Just make sure you don’t forget about the miscellaneous post in my thread when you’re collecting songs. Most of those songs were left out of the sound test because they are short sound clips. Though some appear in the game elsewhere, like the Animal Crossing songs, but I have them listed in the miscellanous section with a prefix of N.
I’m basically bogged down to my three mismatched Mario themes, two mismatched DK themes and than all the Subspace stuff.
Thank god for your individual tracks too. Fixing tags is almost done for non-subspace stuff.
This is all I seem to have left, and strangely enough these don’t exactly match any of your other things so I assume they’re out of sound test:
DK Island Swing (Subspace Emissary Version)
Airship Fortress (Subspace Emissary Version)
Data Selection Screen (Subspace Emissary Version)
Brinstar (Subspace Emissary Version)
Ambient Sounds
There’s also a couple of results screens, but I named them with my own discretion. All this sound plausible for sound-test tracks?
I’ll be back tomorrow- I need to get the Battlefield Melee track, vocal tracks and a couple of songs (like Boss Battle Song 1) that really do sound annoying looped too much.
Thanks! I should sleep now :3
EDIT: Self-reminder, grab Battlefield (Melee) and delete my old Melee soundtrack where applicable.
that would make my life complete 😀
Skunk updated her thread, so I also updated the links here accordingly. The files you requested are available for download.
Can you indicate which songs come from the Subspace Emissary Solo game play? Been playing through that part of the game and it has a lot of cool songs, but your soundtrack is freakin’ huge and can’t tell which comes from where in the game. 🙂
Whatever you want to download, now you can pick and choose the tracks you want to download. I hope more people find this useful as well.
I’ll try and match the other songs I have with the ones in your misc section to be sure I have everything alright.
EDIT: Damn, what are all those Fs? I guess I have to download the misc zip

I appreciate the suggestion, but I’m using the official track names or nothing. I’m meticulous like that. =/
However all of the KK songs are tagged correctly as they do appear tagged in the game, they just aren’t in the sound test.
Now that I’m done tagging (for the most part), the hunt for tracks to replace begins. Woo!
@mattgcn
if you could, could you edit your post too, just to avoid confusion.
Gosh, not many people on last.fm put effort in their tags. Most of them are like… "SSB X Sound Team" or "Super Smash Bros. Brawl" ._.
Yes, everything with a "—" for artist is not an arranged track, but the original version of the song.
I meant most of your post from before about the miscellaneous data, all that snd_bgm stuff.

1-06 | Final Destination

I don’t know where you people are getting this from. Everything sounds perfectly fine to me. I’ll tell you what I told the person before you I used the original .brstm files which contain the sound data taken off of the disc, then I convereted them into .wav files at 44.100 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo. After that I encoded them into .mp3 files using LAME 3.97 with the following method (-V 0 –vbr-new)
Every effort has been made to ensure the highest quality for each file. Perhaps the quality is scratchy because of your conversion by changing them into AAC files.
Every effort has been made to ensure the highest quality for each file. Perhaps the quality is scratchy because of your conversion by changing them into AAC files.
If I don’t convert them to AAC and exit the ZIP folder with the music files, the music will not play on iTunes. Besides, it’s scratchy even when I put them on iTunes as MPEG files (the MPEG files come from the download)
I’m going to try a different RAR extractor.
Thanks for the help 🙂
Has anyone here take any cool snapshots from the game? Any stage builders out there?
No and yes. I’ve made some truly weird creations on that.
In other news, so far I’ve found 55 files that are either too long when looped more than twice, or have vocals. I’m almost there, man! 🙂
Have fun with your tagging, glad to see you are almost there. Putting up all of the tracks individually seems to be a popular choice for a lot of people. I’m definitely noticing an increase in downloads since I added those. It took a while, but now that it’s done I can see that it was worth it.

or here: Thread 51759
And to comment on your encoding -V0 doesn’t help quality at all, it in fact hurts it as you are making it use more bits on parts you cant hear depriving the parts that need the quality. For any high bitrate (160kbps+) encodes -V2 –vbr-new -q0 is generally agreed to be the best. Some people like a –lowpass 19.7 as well to give VBR even more breathing room.
There is no definitive thread.
My list is organized differently, tagged with the official track names, loops only once, the first post on the thread is organized better, and you may also download individual songs.
I wish I would have known that a few weeks ago. >_<
I could re-do this, but everyone is going to have their personal audio preference. Also it would take days to start from scratch to make this minor change.
Thanks for the link to the Official Site’s Music List site. That’ll be very helpful in knowing what to download. Mostly interested in the re-arranged songs than the originals. 🙂

No problem, it also shows more information such as which music plays on which stage, as well as letting you know which game the music originally came from.
I believe that songs come from (and is also called) Cruel Brawl. I recognize it from all those (agonizing) tries to get the Liquid Snake sticker.
Also Cyantre, I think you have the Shin Onigashima song looped twice, I believe the first loop ends around 1:48.
And the Battle Scene / Final Boss (Golden Sun) seems to be extended an extra minute. The first loop should end around 2:17, but it’s kind of hard to tell since apparently, it doesn’t loop back to the "Battle Scene" part of the song.
Sorry if I sound a little nit-picky, but it doesn’t bother me much since those are both awesome songs! (And at least you know that someone is actively listening to them. 🙂 )

Hmm or possibly "Multi-Man Brawl"? It could be used in more than one of them, perhaps, since the name says "HUNDRED" it could have been made for hundred man brawl first.
Anyone wanna confirm?
Sorry for complaining before, Cyantre. I listen to the files again and the scratchyness is barely noticeable. Thank you for the organized downloads. 🙂

No problem. I don’t mind the complaints, I just wanted you to know the process I went through in making them. I’m glad that they sound better now.
Being a sound tech myself, I have a very sensitive ear for these types of things, and I can’t stand listening to poor quality audio.
Thanks for all the work you’ve done though. Just wish the other guy was as organized as you.
And yeah, I’d buy an official soundtrack mini-release (like highlight tracks), but I probably wouldn’t spend my money on a full release.
Of course, the quality may also be entirely dependent on what hardware you used to do the actual ripping.
If I were to encode them using LAME what settings should I use for the best quality?
Also, since the master files have already been saved as PCM 16 bit, re-encoding won’t make much of a difference in audio quality. I think the root of the poor quality is from the method you used to rip the files in the first place.
How did you do it anyways? Did you just record them using your mic/line in on your sound card? If so, what kind of sound card is it?
Winamp has an option to convert any files to .wav files. So if I could figure out a way to go straight from .brstm to .mp3 I could probably improve the quality signifigantly.
Yes, I know. All of the links are broken, that’s because I took all of the files down. Expect a new higher-quality version in the next few days.
Thanks. ^^
The new version will also loop once, but the increase in quality is dramatic. For anyone who is familar with LAME, I used the –preset insane settings, which is basically the next best thing to loseless.
–preset insane is all kinds of overkill, it’ll make your rip huge with next to no benefits. As I said before you should be using VBR with something other than -V0 for the bitrates you should be aiming for.
As I said on the last page the standard switch for home listening is -V2 –vbr-new which is conveniently –preset fast standard. If you want to go down to the 160-180kbps range do -V3 –vbr-new and if you want to go up above 220kbps do -V1 –vbr-new
There have been several listening tests and as far as 16-bit audio is concerned "fast standard" is pretty much transparent.
The links are dead
Actually, it does. The way Winamp creates .wav files, it does it in a way that degrades the quality. Once I went straight from .brstm to .mp3 the quality improved immensely. There are so many different options with LAME, and I did a bunch of research on the different settings. In the end I decided to go with the –preset insane option for a few reasons. First off it’s the hightest possible quality next to loseless. The second reason is that this third or forth time I’ve tagged and organized these files from scratch, and I don’t want to have to do it again.
It might be overkill, but everyone seems to have a specific preference for which encoding option to use. At least this way the quality is there, and if anyone really wants to down convert the files to save a little space, they can. So far everyone I’ve encounted cares more about the quality than anything else.
Once I finish this time, I’m done. Seriously.
Seriously please read this hydrogenaudio take on the matter (http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=Lame#Best_quality:_.22archiving.22 ). They know better than both you or I.
The rule of thumb when considering encoding options: at a given bitrate, VBR is higher quality than ABR, which is higher quality than CBR (VBR > ABR > CBR in terms of quality). The exception to this is when you choose the highest possible CBR bitrate, which is 320 kbps (-b 320 = –alt-preset insane), but this produces very large filesizes for very little audible benefit.
High quality: HiFi, home or quiet listening
-V3 –vbr-new (~175 kbps), -V2 –vbr-new (~190 kbps), -V1 –vbr-new (~210 kbps) or -V0 –vbr-new (~230 kbps) are recommended. These settings will produce transparent encoding (transparent = most people cannot distinguish the MP3 from the original in an ABX blind test). Audible differences between these presets exist, but are extremely rare.
I care about quality a lot, so does mattgcn and all he wanted is 196kbps. You can do insane if you want but I think it is only going to push more people to the other rip. I’d seriously eat my hat if you could tell the difference between -preset insane and -preset fast extreme.
There are also plenty of tools for extracting and inserting tags from/into MP3s. You shouldn’t have to redo anything other than the file names which needed redoing anyway.
Yes, I would have to rename everything again, and being that I just finished re-tagging and re-organizing, I’m done. If you don’t want to download my version, don’t download it. I’m tired of trying to please everyone. Like I said before, this is the last time I’m going back to encode the music from this game.
Songs are still going to be available for individual download once I re-upload everything, so it’s not going to be an issue for those with a slow-connection. The overall file size hasn’t jumped that dramatically, especially considering the huge increase in quality. Again, if you don’t like it, don’t download it, or down convert the files. I don’t care anymore.
Blargh! (Thanks for the help, but understand my frustrations.)
I do understand your frustrations, for something that sounds reasonably easy, ripping a game can be quite a difficult task. If I can recommend one thing for next time you try this it would be to automate the process. Doesn’t seem that the brstm to wav tool is very stable yet sadly.
EDIT: Could you upload a sample brstm file for me?
in_cube.dll is stable, it’s just that Nullsoft DirectSound Output isn’t that fantastic.
Honestly, I plan to convert these to 256kbps AAC files, because that’s just my personal preference (for the 16,000 songs in my music library). So for any space-saving audiophiles out there, you can convert these to a lower bitrate if you choose. It’ll be a hell of a lot easier than re-encoding, re-tagging, re-organizing, re-uploading, and re-posting all of this again.
As for the brstm tool, I was talking about vgmstream which is looking to replace in_cube and has a command line tool that could be used to automate the conversion.
Isn’t there a Nullsoft Diskwriter plugin for WAV out? I wasn’t aware out_ds could dump to file.
Plus I’m sure "space-saving audiophile" is a high order paradox. 😉
I’m only posting here to educate so I hope I’ve done my job.
No, not it’s not! The method I’ve chosen is the absoultely highest possible quality you can set LAME to encode MP3 files. The website you linked to even confirmed this. I don’t care to use –preset fast extreme because it isn’t the absolute best quality. Just because you may not be able to hear any imperfections using –preset fast extreme, doesn’t mean they don’t exist. I know the same is true of an lossy format, but…
-b 320. This is the strongest setting for MP3, with the lowest risk of artifacts.
…and what the hell? The last time I used -V 0 –vbr-new which is the exact same f**ing thing as –preset fast extreme, and people were bitching at me! AAAHHHHHHH!
My suggestions is before you invest in huge amounts of effort just do a sample track and see what people here think.
I already told you in my last post that I finished everything already.
Do you know what? It’s done, you’re getting -b 320, it’s done!
(Actually I just have to upload the .rar files and link to them, then it’s done!)

out_ds.dll can’t out_disk.dll

*sigh* Did you see the first post of this thread? I even added it in to the last post in this thread as well. The new thread is also currently on the front page. >_<;
Hm. Is this music or voicepacks or character sound effects?
If it is character SFX I could use them for my videos.
I might not check back here, so email me at [email protected] if they are CSFX and you upload them. Needed in next 3 days. THANKS!
