However, there WERE some tracks that stood out to me, that I liked. What are some of your favorite tracks on the *cough* X-2 soundtrack?
To be honest I think this soundtrack was hated by a lot including myself because it didn’t have any of the recurring Final Fantasy themes. So what if Uematsu left, he wasn’t around for XII yet they kept the Chocobo theme, the prelude, the fanfares… X-2 didn’t have ANY of those, I think ruined it. However, I played X-2 again recently paying close attention to the soundtrack (I’ve been playing all the games lately again this time going on a "soundtrack crusade") and I found that some tracks are actually pretty high-ranked and comparable to Uematsu’s work:
Eternity Memory of Lightwaves! – Sure there is no prelude, but I actually find this better than the recurring prelude. Same with the band performance version on it.
Guadosalaam – Better than X’s Guadosalam, that’s for sure. I still can’t figure out how X’s Guadosalam made the piano collection.
Under Bevelle – This is high up there as well, and definitely could pass for one of the "Hurry" tracks from previous games, as it is defintely comparable to them. (not to be confused with "Bevelle’s Secret", which is the slow temple-ish music. This is the fast chase music played during the Paragon fight and for some reason in the Cactuar Nation in Ch 5 when Angra Mainyuu attacks.)
Gullwings March – I couldn’t care less for the other two Gullwing themes, but I loved this one.
Mi’hen Highroad – It’s repetitive-ish, but it’s catchy. Sometimes I forget it’s even from X-2.
Summoned Beast – GREAT boss music. Best battle theme in a while.
"Infiltration" and "Labyrinth" – Two different tracks, but very similar like the first 40 seconds of them are identical up to a certain point. Either way, perfect Cave music.
Leblanc has Everything – Catchiness.

I hope you’re not taking me for one of those idiots that despises the game because of "nostalgia fanboyishness" like most people who hate X-2, because X-2 is actually one of my favorite games.
EDIT: And also, it’s not really about not recycling old tracks, it’s the fact that most of the tracks here sound like teenage pop. I mean, do you actually LIKE "Real Emotion"? No problem if you do, but while I see many reasons to defend this game (much like you do), "Real Emotion" is not one of them.
As for the tunes that I did like, though I’m not aware of all their names I’ll try to give a brief description.
1) The main menu theme; this is self explanatory.
2) Bevelle Theme (as in the theme which normally plays in the city itself) and also ‘Bevelle’s Secret’, though the latter sounds extremely clunky in MIDI form.
3) The music that plays at Clasko’s Chocobo ranch.
4) The piano theme that plays while you fight Bahamut at the end of Chapter 3 (?).
5) Zanarkand Ruins theme.
To be honest I’m going to have to play this again now next time I go back home, as it’s been a long while since I’ve done so and there are very possibly some notable tracks I’m missing from this little list.
Heh, you realize that’s the exact same theme played most of the times when Yuna is reminiscing ("Yuna’s Ballad")? and it’s Chapter 2.
X2
• Yuna’s Theme
• Sir Rupuran Has Everything!
• Besaid
• Rikku’s Theme
• Under Bevelle
• Yuna’s Ballad
• Nightmare of a Cave
• Vegnagun Starting
• Epilogue (Reunion)
I don’t know why the FFX-2 soundtrack has such a bad reputation. All the above tracks are great and most of the ones I haven’t listed were at least pretty good. I think the only really low-quality track is 1000 Words and even that has some decent piano arrangements.
As I said, it’s been a long time since I’ve played X-2.
rikku’s theme
paine’s theme
1000 words piano arrangement that plays in the farplane
shuyin’s theme
anything goes for leblanc
guadoslam
lol real emotion (stays in my head)
Like freeform Jazz?
Yeah that one was good. Favorite of all has to be Hadashi no kiseki (full version, not the orchestral version from the game)! Took me hours to get that damn song but it was worth it!
I agree, the BEST part was before you put the disk into your PS2. That bit cycled!
oh yeah that one is good It was one of the reasons I became a fan of marika matsumoto (the vocal version)
1000 words piano arrangement that plays in the farplane
This is called "A Wish That Spans the Ages" — I like it too. Also, "Hametsu," one of the ending battle themes.
Actually, I rather like a lot of this game’s soundtrack. Sure, it was marred by some mediocre / lame tracks that really shouldn’t have been in it at all, but there were a lot of good ones too.
Note: "Depressing" is a compliment.
I’m gonna be even tackier and second that.
Besaid, Yuna’s Ballad, and 1000 words – Like above, it’s beautiful, soothing, calming, and relaxing.
Eternity: Memories of Waves and Light
1000 Words, Orchestrated version with the full lyrics.
1,000 Words, from the cutscene
Most of all the zone music was irritating enough I couldn’t stand it, as in X, but these four were pretty good pieces in my opinion.
Zanarkand Ruins was probably the worst.
Also, Shuyin’s Battle Music was awesome.

1000 Words
Vegnagun Awakes
Memories of Lightwaves (although how come it’s called "memories of waves and light" on my game?)
Rikku’s Theme
Paine’s Theme
And I loathe the Gullwings march, if only for hearing that little sod Shinra singing "Gullwings go, la la la" or whatever…

In game:
Besaid
Boss Theme
Yuna’s Ballad
Under Bevelle
That’s it…
Wind Crest ~The Three Trails~ and A Wish That Spans the Ages. Mostly loves the mellow parts of the OST.
LeBlanc’s Theme and LeBlanc’s Battle Theme is super catchy as well.
Maybe most unique, but best? I respect your opinion, but mine is that X-2’s music (haven’t played the game yet, but heard most of the soundtrack already) pales in comparison to the rest of the series.
I really do think it’s the best. Which is funny considering how much I dislike the actual game. Of course, the rest aren’t far behind. I enjoy them all. Well, except the chiptune ones.
It creates the illusion of being a completely different world/game all together.
Everything else wasn’t that good.
Yuna’s Ballad, which is also used in any of a number of other sequences, including Yuna’s "I don’t like your plan, it sucks" speech and the Perfect Ending.
Anyway I’d like to add "I’ll Give You Something Hot" so fucking groovy.
No, instead they’re sappy songs with techno beats, pianos and cellos.
well, everyone has different tastes… ๐
its not the best but not the worst to me either ๐
Not sure why so many people hate the OST. Maybe some people have too high of expectations, or they just simply follow others opinions.
As for sad beautiful songs it’s definitely Wind Crest ~The Three Trials~ which I even learned to play on piano, try playing this song in the morning when the sun is coming up, no word to describe that.
The last would be Macalania Forest because it felt great along with the whole theme of that place.
The original track that plays on the title screen is sensational, but the three musicians covering it in happy ending Guadosalam is what stole my heart.
No. None of the tracks here are anywhere near the quality of the ones in FFX.
Matter of opinion. You can listen to all the tracks on YouTube (or by other means) before making a final decision.
