The new movie poster was released today

Being a huge fan of Drew Struzan I was really anticipating this thing, and it sure as hell didn’t let me down. I wasn’t THAT thrilled by the teaser-poster, since I thought Drew got Indy’s fedora all wrong, but after the comic-adaption-cover (the one used for the soundtrack mock-up in the opening post), I was sure the final theatrical artwork would look stunning. And well, it does!

The only real film I think that Spielberg has messed with JW’s music was The Lost World, so I doubt he will mess with Indy. And here’s hoping that the new Indy will bring the complete scores. And FYI, only a few minutes (definitely not 12) of Raiders is unreleased, but it is basically complete.

P.S.

Spielberg really "messed with JW’s music" in Temple of Doom (there’s 50 minutes of music missing from the album!!).

Its so light hearted and repetitive. Quite a let down. Not at all memorable, a few good bits though. There are also some moments where you’re convinced the Indy theme is gonna make an appearance, and it doesn’t. 🙁

Just been thinking about that – why don’t you like The Adventures of Mutt? It seems like classic Williams to me. And it quotes the Raiders’ theme.

Personally, to be honest, I’m pleased that the score isn’t a 70 minute restatement of the theme. It’s been done to death for twenty five years. Williams has stated previously that he didn’t want his score to become simply variations on the march – because a) audiences will get completely fed up with it, and b) it’s an easy way out of actually having to write some music. Williams isn’t lazy, and he’s not stupid.

I think it’s the perfect balance – give us the theme at the outset, then give us a rich, thematic score that alludes to it fairly regularly, but doesn’t beat us up with it.

Yes, but only Finale as far as I can tell…

I admit that the new soundtrack isn’t as good as the other 3. It feels like it’s missing something. But after seeing the movie (which was really good ^O^) I like the soundtrack a bit more but it ranks last among the others.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
The original soundtrack appeared in 1985 and it always was considered a rarity. Because it lacked many of the movie tracks some fans recorded the “Complete Album with SFX” which had poor quality. Not satisfied with it some fans (perhaps other ones) released the “Expanded Original Motion Picture Score” which contained exactly the same original tracks plus a mix of another ten tracks (don’t know but I think these were extracted directed from the DVD) and, as a bonus, the known orchestral piece released by John Williams “the parade of slave children”. Recently was released “The Complete Score” which has a very good quality and it’s quite complete in spite of lacking the slave children’s parade (and perhaps others from the expanded album). [it’s also here, but it would be nice to have the expanded OMP score too]

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
The original soundtrack came out in 1989 and like the previews ones it lacked many tracks. A few years latter some team recorded 16 new tracks with less quality (seams they are playing under water) than the original release; they called it “Vol. 2 – The Unreleased Music”. After that some fans merged the original tracks with the vol. 2 ones into a single album (I don’t remember the title of the album) however, another team had already recorded other 7 unreleased tracks and grouped all these music and into a CD called “Expanded Edition” (they also had the bad idea to rename some of the tracks – not only the unofficial but also the officials entitled by John Williams which brought some confusion).

[Now the part that matters]

There is also on the internet an album called “The Unreleased Tracks” which features not only all the unreleased tracks with their original name intact but also two bonus tracks (the book burning theme and another version of “escaping from Venice” performed by another orchestra). The latest version is called “The Complete Score” – it’s also here!- it has all tracks with chronological order, with titles untouched, but lacks the two bonus tracks from “The Unreleased Tracks”.

Fate of Atlantis, well – that’s not a very good version (it’s the Draggor’s Den ver.); in fact there are 6 different conversions of Fate of Atlantis soundtrack, I’ll describe them just in case someone has them. And if anyone has them, please post them =D

Yes it’s available, but not for everyone.
People more closed of the soundtrack markets and retailers, are already getting their advanced copies of this set.
Give it 1-2 weeks, and you probably should catch a leaked version.

The only missing music is from the desert chase cue on Raiders, and that’s only 45 seconds of missing music, at most.
This set producers, prefer to include the original LP version cue of Desert Chase (7:30), instead of the DCC CD/LP version (8:15).
We will get almost 6 hours of Indy music. All remastered. With long OOP CD’s getting expanded treatment, along with a bonus CD, and guess what, those people are still bitching.

How is it waaaay easier? All you do is put the disc into windows media players and click rip. It takes all of a couple of minutes. I really wish people would just buy releases like this so that we can get more of the same. There are many scores out there that have been given poor CD treatment that needs similar treatment, and buying this set will give incentive for studios to think about releasing such albums (I’m looking at you AOTC and ROTS).

Actually, you can rip 320kbs mp3 from Windows, quite good quality if you ask me. And all you have to do is click update album info before ripping and everything is tagged and good to go. Really not that hard. As for this set, I can’t wait to get my hands on my copy. Too bad I have a little bit of a wait on my hands.

Well, i now already bought it online, but i’m still downloading here. I am a really big Indiana Jones fan (i have sooo much stuff, from videos, dvds, cds, books, comic books, cards, figures, magazines, etc) but to be honest some of the stuff such as this CD collection i don’t like opening and using, i just like to have it unopened as part of my collection (if you know what i mean).

Trust me, if you were as big as a collector as i am, you’ll know what i mean. I take copyright rules very important, i don’t download something unless i own the soundtrack. The only exception i have had is games. A lot of games i own i really want the soundtrack to, so i download the soundtrack since i own the original game (sometimes they are not available, etc). However, if i REALLY like the game soundtrack (e.g. Lost Odyssey, Shenmue) then i will by the soundtrack straight away (if they are available. But in general with game soundtracks i just download them here because i own the original game anyway.

The quality is deplorable, but it’s still good to hear some of the sequences without dialogue and most sfx, although most tracks contain some SFX.

i have the original versions, bootlegs and these official expanded editions
the temple of doom has better quality than the last crusade bootleg
those tracks you mentioned are from the bootleg version, the ones i posted are from the official expanded editions with the bonus tracks from disc 5
maybe we all can mix the expanded editions with the bootleg versions to have the complete scores but it will have different quality
you will hear from high quality to low quality then high again and so on :p

The back and the inside are supposed to be printed back to back on the same sheet of paper. The inside image is a little bigger than the back (so that it overlaps)… just cut along the edges of the back-cover and it should look good.

Yes, but the music of this thread’s downloads suck mega balls, no offense to those who posted them.

The new release’s quality is so much better that the incomplete scores are far preferable to those of this thread.

I just think they’re roughly the quality of a tape or a bit higher, which isn’t bad to me. I’ve listened to them on several occasions and enjoyed them.

I’d rather take the bootleg complete versions than a collection that is still missing a lot of music.

My opinion though; to each their own. 🙂

and frankly, i’d LOVE to compare the sets for each film, compile a master version that has mostly better quality stuff and the few bootleg tracks they’re missing, but that would be pretty insane.

The first transition is excellent, but the second seems a bit delayed. That’s just my opinion.

I just uploaded a version of "Belly of the Steel Beast" that I recently edited from these new expanded albums that not only combines "Belly of the Steel Beast" and "On the Tank," but features the Nazi fanfare heard when Vogel pops up from the tank turret to confront Indy. I had to use the Nazi fanfare from "Marcus is Captured–To Berlin", pitch-corrected up and tempo-shifted to match what’s heard in the film, and then carefully edited into the proper place in the track.

I can’t say this is the most accurate representation of the film track since there’s some additional material contained early in "Belly of the Steel Beast" that’s not actually heard in the film itself, namely from about 1:10 to 2:13. But since it’s such good material, I didn’t want to edit it out.

I also removed the Indy fanfare heard during the first 10 seconds of "On the Tank" since that music precedes the entire tank battle sequence.

All in all, I think this is a pretty well-edited track, but if anyone can make a better version, I’m all for it! Have fun.

Correct. The "Complete" scores predate the 2008 release by Concord of the "Indiana Jones: The Soundtrack Collection" which mostly fills out the music from the first 3 movies. Full details at the (fan site) http://www.indianajonesmusic.com

Has anyone taken the PSP rips of the Staff of Kings soundtrack by Alpha23 and arranged them into chronological order? Note that these are different from the PS2/Wii tracks by Haab and Harman.

Just saw the custom Young Indy Vol. 5 by Laserschwert – nicely done! The artwork is great. Wish I would’ve seen that before making my own, also mostly from the Curt Sobel bootleg:

I have two requests, both a little odd.
First, I’m looking for the original 9 track version of Raiders.
Second, at some point I got a 32 track ‘Complete’ Raiders score (I was actually looking for the above 9 track version.) It’s great, but as long as I’ve got it, however, track 15 "Through the Wall" is clipped, and if anybody else has this, do they have a version with a full version of the track (Or is it always clipped?)

Faleel, these are GREAT! I really LOVE what you have done. I had to do this with several soundtracks, like "Right Stuff", collect various tracks from different sources and put them altogether. Keep up the GREAT work!
Also, I wanted to point out that the second disc, tracks 13, 14, and 15 are misspelled. I don’t know if Williams himself misspelled the march, as it is a REAL march, composed in 1866 by Johann Gottfried Piefke, after the battle of K???niggr???tzer, which is why it is called the "K???niggr???tzer Marsch"! Being of some German descent, I know a little about this march. The battle was a major thing, ending the Austro-prussian war, and even though the march was one of Hitler’s favorites, and he assigned it as the official theme for the Wermarcht, it had been greatly loved before and after the Nazi party used it! And, I don’t know how anyone today, when you hear it, even playing in that scene from Indy 3, cannot tap your feet to the great marching sound!

the only part that sounded crappy in my piece was the intro, the rest was just not "Audiophile/ABC standart’s"

I listened to your version out of curiosity. The missing bit you took is finally very small and I’m sure you have the same music on the "Temple Idol" track. Maybe I mistake but if I reckoned something new in the entire take, for me the begining is already available.

… And sorry if I think it’s rubish to deal with cheesy sound. Your pleasure to my point of view is only in the mental conception of having it "complete". With such tracks for me you don’t have anything. So for me your track isn’t "superior" to JS900’s one even with the care you put in it.

also listen (if you have it) to the "End Titles (Film Version)" from the Superman The Movie disc in the FSM "Blue Box" its basically the same principle, editing the music to how it was in the film for an alternate listening experience.

Since years, i downloaded many versions of Indy 1-2-3 scores, official or not. And honestly, i am totally lost with the amount of avaible music for the trilogy ! I would want to burn on several audio cds the most complete versions of the scores in best quality but i really don’t know which one to choose… Some have sfx and are complete, some not but are uncomplete, some have a bad quality and so on, some are remastered, some are live recordings and so on… It is an endless labyrinth !

For example, i just downloaded the Temple of doom "Definitive edition" just above. Even there was obviously a lot of work on this release, there are still too much sfx to burn it, as far as i am concerned of course…. Last year, i downloaded a really nice version of Temple of doom called by the author "Ultrafyingly Cool Edition". Althougth 40 minutes of the score and source music are missing, i never found a sfx free version as complete as this one.

There are similar releases by the same author for Indy 1 & 3 called "Ultimately Righteous Edition" and "Unbelievably Bodacious Edition". But unfortunatly, nothing is this world seems to be perfect concerning Indy scores and the author choosed to release 2 sets for the score, like the definitive edition above : A film and a music version. The problem is that i don’t want to burn the entire 2 cds. Some tracks are alternate indeed but some are not, and to burn everything is redundant in my opinion. I would only want to burn a bonus cd containing the alternate tracks, plus some extra pieces grabbed everywhere on internet (live performance, suites, …) as it is usually done. And i don’t have the time and the energy to listen and sort eveything honestly…

So i have a really simple request, maybe the real specialists here could help :

1) Are these versions – for those who know and already listened them – are for now THE DEFINITIVE ONES TO BURN ???

2) If not, do someone know versions of the 3 scores with these conditions :
a) NO SFX AT ALL.
b) A best possible quality.
c) The most numbers of tracks inside : normal, alternates, live tracks, … To sum up, all that can be found :).
d) IN FILM ORDER for normal tracks.

I have the versions with the LEAST SFX, A version with no SFX at all does not exist.

As far as sfx are concerned the guy has done his best and they are not too noticeable, obviously for the unreleased stuff your never gonna find it sfx free and also there’s not much IMO with sfx that’s worth worrying about.

@Faleel : I know that a complete SFX free version doesn’t exist, but i would only want to have the most possible material that is SFX free in a correct order… Impossible request ?

Juts as an additionnal info though, the Concord "Temple of Doom" has the end title wrong pitched as well as a track called "The villagers" (or something like this). The pitch/speed for the End title is easy to find out, using the ost version for matching… And convenient: you just have to apply the same speed-pitch to "the villagers" and you get it ! (compare to an isolated score – even though it may be an alt version if I remember well). 😉 I don’t think this has been already mentioned anywhere, sorry if it’s already been.

My edits (of Indy) have pretty much everything.

Hi. The audio is excellent – just as good as a proper release of the soundtrack I’d say – although i have been listening in the car so perhaps some of the nuance is lost. But I’d say to my ears it’s very very good. The track listing doesn’t bear much relation to the double CD contents however – I need to sit down with the film and give the tracks new names I suspect. But what you will be pleased with is the sheer volume of unreleased music – it’s a completely different listening experience to the rather bland ost release. Hope that helps.

also there are 5.1 foreign language tracks, so perhaps we will get music with less dialogue…perhaps Beneath The Floors a.k.a The Catacomb’s?

I ordered some Battlestar cds from the UK recently. If your package takes as long as some of mine did, it could easily be another week.

Guys… i’ve completed the Return To The Village/Raiders March with Voices… i can not quite them, because they have some flutes and in the one of the .rar files that i have download the flutes are not present and one flute that miserably can not be listened, at the beginning of the credits, the time of the track is mostly 9:31, later i will make the 8:47 track, as soon as i can quite the voices of the Villagers in the DVD Rip… something happened, a bip can be listened in the Flutes segment… sorry for bad english.

Bits and pieces for Raiders and LC have leaked but mainly in depressingly low quality.

Well i can upload it in Mediafire, but the track have a little "blip" and SFX, because it contains lost segments and the missing 30 seconds have voices… i can not delete the voice so, i will upload them later…

Well RUSSDS i have completed the track unfortunatly i did not remove the SFX/Voices from the childrens, and i’ve upload the Alternate Drums Version from a remastered Spanish Version…

I was talking about the infamous End Credits from Temple Of Doom that it’s very incomplete, actually some instruments heard in the missing 36 seconds varies on the selected language. For example: if I select "Espa???ol 2.0" (First Recording from Mexico) from the BluRay release or DVD, the drums plays very different from the English version but it’s the same piece, actually I mentioned way ago. And i’m not be able to erased the voices from that section for 5 or 6 years.

I got the others….and now this ones driving me nuts.

Heard 5th Indy is set to start filming this summer at Pinewood Studios…. with Harrison. cool.

I just received a message from the one who did the complete versions of Temple Of Doom and Raiders Of The Lost Ark. He is going to finish his Last Crusade edit but it will take sometime so it is still coming.

NOTE: Star Wars Eps III, IV, V & VI are still being edited with deleted scene music included so be patient. Also the The Lost World: Jurassic Park novel score (like my Jurassic Park Novel score) as well as the Dinotopia book score are still being compiled. They will be uploaded as they come out as well.

If there is any confusion about tracks or tracklists, first see the corresponding back covers as they have the correct track list. If something is missing, let me know. Here is what I have so far. All are Complete except where they say “album”. All are sfx free except where noted, or one or two tracks that I recorded (ex: Armageddon…Leaving on a Jet Plane, Animal Crackers, Psych Tests). My “Novel scores” are just music that I put to the scenes from a book. They are not meant to be played while reading the book as the beats might differ, as my imagination dramatisized or “montage” some scenes. It’s just what I “heard” in my head if I had made a film version of the book. So here is my list so far. Questions/comments always welcome.

As much as I love Filmtracks’ reviews, the one concerning Last Crusade (http://www.filmtracks.com/titles/last_crusade.html) is bullshit. Aside from downplaying Williams’ great music the author makes false claims regarding the sound quality of the japanese 1995 re-release, there wrongly called "Edoya, 1997" (1997 being the Amazon.com listing date). It’s a budget re-release with identical content. A user at jwfan.com even ridiculously repeated (http://www.jwfan.com/forums/index.php?/topic/11587-indiana-jones-and-the-last-crusade-warner-cd/#comment-307304) that claim. I guess that’s a typical "audiophile" – reaffirming investments ^^. However, if you wanna have it, write me. 🙂
