Due to the fact the topic music is already in a few rumbles ongoing, I thought I would start out with something little easier to overview, and chose as first topic Espers, the summons of FFVI.
My first attempt of rumbling will include 24 competitors out of the 27 Espers.
I removed Bahamut and Unicorn completely, seeing as Bahamut is fanboyed at and Unicorn is only a bit different to Kirin and Seraphim. The third removal is fusing Odin and Raiden into one entry, seeing as their attacks are pretty much the same and Raiden replaces Odin.
I will let the Espers fight in 3 brackets, and in the final round the three bracket winners will fight in a "free for all" round to find out whom of the three is the winner.
After this rumble we can think of another one. ^^
Oh, a few important informations:
1.) The encounters in the first rounds are determined randomly.
2.) Please set your vote in bold, so I can see it.
3.) I will update every 3-4 days.
Winners of Past Rumbles:
Espers
1. Maduin
2. Phoenix
3. Alexander
Locations
1. Opera House
2. Phantom Train
Bosses
1. Kefka
2. Ultros
Music
1. Terra’s Theme
2. Cyan’s Theme
______
Alright, enough rambling… let’s get this started with the first round!
Bracket 1 – Fight 1
Kirin, the Chinese "unicorn". He casts Regen on all party members and teaches a few good spells, such as Cure 2 and Scan. In China, Kirins are said to bring luck. Maybe that luck will help him to win this round!
vs.
Tritoch, one of the strongest Espers you recieve in this game. He attacks with the Tri-Dazer, an attack of all three elements, and teaches the user the strongest elemental spells in the game: Fire 3, Ice 3 and Bolt 3.
My vote goes to Tritoch, simply because he looks beautiful and his power is way stronger than Kirin ever could dream of.
Kirin. Shout out to my white mages!
Also, nice work on starting this. ๐
I’m going to have to go with Tritoch as well. I remember how excited I was when I first got him and saw the spells I could learn. ๐
Good luck with the rumble Skunk!
Thanks to Kneg for advertising a bit, as well. =D
And already the first battle seems to be a close one… Oh well, we’ll see soon, how it turns out~ <3
Kirin – 4
Tritoch – 7
After the head to head race Tritoch reserved the victory for this round and therefore proceeds! So, let’s take a look at the first bracket 2 fight. =)
Bracket 2 – Fight 1
Ramuh, one of the regulars in the pantheon of summons in Final Fantasy. This old wise man is the king of thunder, summoning the attack Bolt Fist. He also teaches the lower two Bolt-spells and Poison (however he got to that).
vs.
Seraphim, the beautiful angel. She casts Reviver, an HP recovery for all party members, and teaches useful White Magic, such as Life, Remedy and Cure 2.
FIGHT!!
My vote goes to Seraphim, because her healing spells saved me a lot, and her summon skill is far more useful than Ramuh’s thunder attack.
Thank you for running this, Skunk!
Seraphim. See above stated reason.
Ramuh. I don’t recall using Seraphim a lot, probably ’cause I got better curing magic by the time I got her.
Classic.
Ramuh – 3
Seraphim – 8
Clear victory for our angel, so she will move on to the next round! Allow me to use sprites for the Espers now, making it maybe a bit easier to pick.
Bracket 3 – Fight 1
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/siren.gif
Siren, the beautiful singer. In FF6, Siren casts Sleep on all enemies and hands several status changing spells such as Sleep (who would’ve guessed!), Mute and Slow, as well as Fire 1 (whyever she as a water creature has this…).
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/alexandr.gif
Alexander, who made his debut as summon in this game. He casts Justice on the enemies, which does heavy Holy damage, and teaches very useful spells such as Safe, Shell and Dispel, but also he’s the only one to be able to give you the Black Magic called "Pearl", the only Black Magic which does Holy damage – and has a beautiful animation, too!
My vote in this round goes to Alexander, because his spells simply are way better than Siren’s – even though he doesn’t give any Level Up bonus.
…wasn’t Siren naked before???
…wasn’t Siren naked before???
Same vote, and she is naked in the Japanese version of the game, but has an interesting blue bathing suit bottom on in the American version.
Although I rarely summon espers in FFVI tho.
I think you’re not the only one. ^^
And I think we can start a new round… Let’s see
Alexander – 10
Siren – 2
That’s a pretty clear result. The machine of holy doom goes on and our poor Siren drowns in her own ocean. On to the next round!
Bracket 1, Fight 2
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/maduin.gif
Maduin, the father of the main character of FF6, Terra. He teaches Fire 2, Ice 2 and Bolt 2, and his attack Chaos Wing is one of the little summon attacks that do damage with no elemental alignment. He also adds to Magic Power as Level Bonus.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/crusader.gif
Crusaders, the prototype to the Knights of the Round in FF7. They teach the powerful spells Meteor and Merton and add +50% MP as Level Bonus. Their Summon attack Purifier is a massive Fire attack and one of the most powerful attacks in the game with the whopping cost of 96 MP.
My vote goes to Maduin. Althoug he is not as powerful, he is important for the story and one of the couple of Espers which you actually get to know personality-wise… and I think he is a very lovable guy.
He is actually part of the story and not some pointless over-powered summon you get right at the end.
Oh, you’ve already said it ๐ฎ
Story is way more important than an overpowered summon any day
horny bastard, LOLz
May the name live on. My vote goes to Maduin also, as Terra is clearly the greatest playable character in the game.
I vote Maduin.
Maduin – lots (13)
Crusaders – 0
That leads Maduin to the next round and the crusade has ended.
Bracket 2, Fight 2
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/phantom.gif
Phantom, the spooky green ectoplasma mummy. He teaches Demi, Berserk and Vanish, adds +10% MP as Level Bonus. His summon skill "Fader" casts Vanish on all party members.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/starlet.gif
Starlet, the beautiful goddess (?) of stars. She teaches all 3 Cures, Regen and Remedy, adds Stamina as Level Bonus and her summon skill with the very stylish name "Group Hug" cures all party members’ HP.
To me, the choice is extremely hard. Starlet has more style, but without Phantom I wouldn’t have made it through the Magi Tower… I’ll pass this round.
Time to end this round already!
Phantom – 6
Starlet – 10
Even with adding my vote, it doesn’t change the fact Phantom loses this round. He probably can expect. a comforting hug from Starlet, who will proceed to the next round!
Bracket 3, Battle 2!
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bismark.gif
Bismark, the lord of the sea in Final Fantasy 6, who was named after the German battleship. This gigantic whale was the only magic way to deal water damage to an enemy with his attack "Sea Song". He adds Strength as Level Bonus, teaches Fire, Bolt and Ice in insanely speed, and also Life.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/shoat.gif
Shoat, the … swine. He joins along with his opponent and casts with his "Demon Eye" Break on all enemies. He teaches this spell, along with Bio and Doom, and adds +10% HP as a Level Bonus.
Well… I don’t like both of them, but Bismark simply looks cooler. Duh. :<
Ahaha… Love that line. <3
Bismark – 12
Shoat – 0
Bracket 1, Battle 3
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/shiva.gif
Shiva, one of the oldest classics in the series. She is the queen of ice and her attack "Gem Dust" does ice damage to all enemies. She teaches Ice, Ice 2, Osmose, Rasp and Cure, but gives no Level Bonus.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/golem.gif
Golem, the artificial Esper, who can be purchased at the auction in Jidoor. His summon skill "Earth Wall" casts Safe on all party members. He teaches Safe, Stop and Cure 2, and adds Stamina as Level Bonus.
I’ll go with Shiva, because this is one of her coolest incarnations in the series and she was way more useful to me than Golem.
Shiva – 11
Golem – 0
This means a freezing… eh… stunning flawless victory for our beloved ice goddess with the name of a male Hinduistic god. =>
Slowly the opponents of the next round crystallize themselves out, but we still have five battles to go until we have the next round.
So, here is
Bracket 2, Fight 3
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/phoenix.gif
Phoenix, the burning bird raising from the ashes. His summon skill "Rebirth" casts Life on all party members. He teaches all 3 Life spells, Cure 3 and Fire 3, but gives no Level Bonus.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/stray.gif
Stray, the homeless cat. His "Cat Rain" casts Muddle on all enemies. This and the spells Imp and Float are the magic you can obtain from using him as Esper. He also add Magic Power as Level Bonus.
I personally will postpone my vote, if I should take one.
Phoenix
It is indeed rather obvious. However, I’ve decided and chose Stray, because he’s eeee so cute!
Phoenix – 10
Stray – 1
This means the poor Stray is burned down by Phoenix who proceeds into the next round. Funny how only White Magic-Espers go through Bracket 2. ^^
Bracket 3, Battle 3
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/palidor.gif
Palidor, the rainbow coloured bird. His summon skill "Sonic Dive" picks up all party members to let them Jump attack like dragoons do in other Final Fantasy games. He has no Level Bonus, however teaches very powerful status magic, specifically said: Haste, Haste 2, Slow, Slow 2 and Float.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/terrato.gif
Terrato, the snake of earth. It’s summon skill "Earth Aura" does Earth based damage on all enemies. While giving +30% HP as Level Bonus, he teaches the only Earth and Wind spells in the game, Quake and Whirlwind, as well as the all loved Quarter, which leaves only 25% (in other words: a Quarter) of the targetted enemy’s HP.
Once again I will postpone my vote, as both are highly useful Espers with highly useful spells. =>
Edit: Also, where are my other regular voters? =o
I thought i voted this round???
sorry about that…. I choose Terrato
Palidor – 7
Terrato – 4
Looks like Palidor casted Slow on Terrato. Too bad for my favourite snakey. ;-;
Bracket 1, Round 4
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/ifrit.gif
Ifrit, the Lord of Fire. With his "Inferno" he does Fire damage to all enemies and teaches the spells Fire, Fire 2 and Drain. He also adds to Strength as Level Bonus.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/fenrir.gif
Fenrir, the Norse wolf. He uses as special skill "Moon Song", which casts a spell onto the whole party to boost up their evade percentages. He adds +30% MP as Level Bonus while giving you the spells X-Zone, Warp and Stop.
My vote goes definitely to Fenrir, cause useful and FFVI-Ifrit is crappy. =<
I adore them both, I can’t choose ๐
Abstain
Sorry, but the dices decided it… ;-;
Ifrit – 7
Fenrir – 5
Ifrit wins this round… poor puppy. Next round has probably two of the biggest oddball summons in FFVI.
Bracket 2, Fight 4
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/ragnarok.gif
Ragnarok, the, uhm… sword. It’s kind of a secret summon, and its skill "Metamorphosis" attempts to turn an enemy into an item. It adds no level bonus, and the only spell it teaches is Ultima.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/zoneseek.gif
Zoneseek, the, uhm… I can’t even define what it is! It’s gotten in Jidoor’s auction just like Golem and its summon skill "Wall" casts a stronger version of "Shell" on all party members. It adds to Magic Power as level bonus and teaches Shell, Osmose and Rasp.
This is probably one of the strangest rounds… However, I’ll go with Zoneseek, simply because Osmose was more useful to me than Ultima (MagiTower anyone?).
Ragnarok – 8
Zoneseek – 3
Bracket 3, Fight 4
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/odin.gif http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/raiden.gif
Odin and Raiden, the two legendary knights. As said in the intro of this thread, I put them together because Raiden takes Odin’s place after obtaining him and their attacks, Odin’s "Atom Edge" and Raiden’s "Turf Edge" both do the same: attempt to destroy all enemies. Odin however teaches Meteor and adds to Agility as Level Bonus, while his replacement Raiden adds to Strength and teaches the spell Quick.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/carbunkl.gif
Carbuncle, the small little fuzzie with the gem in its head. It’s a regular and its summon skill "Ruby Power" casts Reflect on all party members. Although no Level Bonus, it teaches an immense list of spells: Reflect, Haste, Shell, Safe and Warp.
I myself do the sympathy vote, so it goes to Carbuncle
Never liked Carbunkle.
Odin & Raiden – 5
Carbuncle – 7
Close victory for the cute green fluffy. He beats the team of the two uberknights and proceeds to the next round. This means ROUND 1 is OVER!
This means that the quarter-finals already start.
And with that, let’s start it already.
Round 2 START!
Bracket 1, Fight 5
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/tritoch.gif
Tritoch, one of the strongest Espers you recieve in this game. He attacks with the Tri-Dazer, an attack of all three elements, and teaches the user the strongest elemental spells in the game: Fire 3, Ice 3 and Bolt 3. Also he adds to Magic Power as Level Bonus!
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/maduin.gif
Maduin, the father of the main character of FF6, Terra. He teaches Fire 2, Ice 2 and Bolt 2, and his attack Chaos Wing is one of the little summon attacks that do damage with no elemental alignment. He also adds to Magic Power as Level Bonus.
I’m gonna stick with Maduin for the sexy. <3
Tritoch – 2
Maduin – 11
Despite Tritoch got some love (unlike Crusader in Round 1), Maduin takes the victory of this round and proceeds. The next round will be very interesting!
Round 2, Fight 5
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/sraphim.gif
Seraphim, the beautiful angel. She casts "Reviver", an HP recovery for all party members, and teaches useful White Magic, such as Life, Remedy and Cure 2, and has no Level Bonus.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/starlet.gif
Starlet, the beautiful goddess (?) of stars. She teaches all 3 Cures, Regen and Remedy, adds Stamina as Level Bonus and her summon skill with the very stylish name "Group Hug" cures all party members’ HP.
For me, I will postpone my vote.
Starlet then.
Makes me wonder why the 4 in my party just can’t stare that phantom that attacked the picture into oblivion in the Owzer’s house subquest.
Seraphim – 5
Starlet – 7
Meaning poor angel is being dumped and Starlet moves on!
Bracket 3, Fight 5
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/alexandr.gif
Alexander, who made his debut as summon in this game. He casts "Justice" on the enemies, which does heavy Holy damage, and teaches very useful spells such as Safe, Shell and Dispel, but also he’s the only one to be able to give you the Black Magic called "Pearl", the only Black Magic which does Holy damage – and it has a beautiful animation, too!
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bismark.gif
Bismark, the lord of the sea in Final Fantasy 6, who was named after the German battleship. This gigantic whale was the only magic way to deal water damage to an enemy with his attack "Sea Song". He adds Strength as Level Bonus, teaches Fire, Bolt and Ice in insanely speed, and also Life.
Well, they had those cute little balls in white, black and grey (for the status changing magic), and Pearl has a black ball, so I can only assume it to be Black Magic.
Holy magic FTW!
Alexander – 8
Bismark – 5
At least the big whale got some love.
Oohhh… the next round is… interesting. Heheh. I’ll be curious about the outcome.
Bracket 1, Fight 6
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/shiva.gif
Shiva, one of the oldest classics in the series. She is the queen of ice and her attack "Gem Dust" does ice damage to all enemies. She teaches Ice, Ice 2, Osmose, Rasp and Cure, but gives no Level Bonus.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/ifrit.gif
Ifrit, the Lord of Fire. With his "Inferno" he does Fire damage to all enemies and teaches the spells Fire, Fire 2 and Drain. He also adds to Strength as Level Bonus.
Also, postponing my vote if I’ll do.
Ifrit, I Choose You!
If I recall correctly, isnt Ifrit partially nude as well?
Shiva, by way of coin flip.
Shiva – 7
Ifrit – 5
Once again a close call… seems like more people like to see a bit of blue pixelly skin more than demonic infernos. Too bad. Shiva proceeds to the semi-finals, and Bracket 1 is complete – now for…
Bracket 2, Fight 6
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/phoenix.gif
Phoenix, the burning bird raising from the ashes. His summon skill "Rebirth" casts Life on all party members. He teaches all 3 Life spells, Cure 3 and Fire 3, but gives no Level Bonus.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/ragnarok.gif
Ragnarok, the, uhm… sword. It’s kind of a secret summon, and its skill "Metamorphosis" attempts to turn an enemy into an item. It adds no level bonus, and the only spell it teaches is Ultima.
Phoenix – all
Ragnarok – none
Phoenix proceeds to the next round. Despite Ragnarok’s triumphant victory over Zoneseek… Oh well!
The last battle for this round arrives now.
Bracket 3, Fight 6
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/palidor.gif
Palidor, the rainbow coloured bird. His summon skill "Sonic Dive" picks up all party members to let them Jump attack like dragoons do in other Final Fantasy games. He has no Level Bonus, however teaches very powerful status magic, specifically said: Haste, Haste 2, Slow, Slow 2 and Float.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/carbunkl.gif
Carbuncle, the small little fuzzie with the gem in its head. It’s a regular and its summon skill "Ruby Power" casts Reflect on all party members. Although no Level Bonus, it teaches an immense list of spells: Reflect, Haste, Shell, Safe and Warp.
I’ll vote for Carbuncle, again.
Palidor – 7
Carbuncle – 2
With that Palidor is the last participant to proceed into the semi-finals! Hooray.
Let’s start away with them and look who’s the first finalist of this rumble! The battle couldn’t be more interesting…
Semi-Final, Bracket 1
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/maduin.gif
Maduin, the father of Terra. He made it to the semi-finals with his importance to the story, and killed off the overpowered summons Tritoch and Crusaders.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/shiva.gif
Shiva, the ice goddess. In the first round she had the rather weak opponent Golem, but in the second round only the fact she is female (*rolls her eyes*) brought her to victory against the fire demon Ifrit.
This was a though one
Also Szczepan, your signature is awesome. <3
Shiva – 2
Huge victory for Maduin who proceeds into the finals. Congratulations!
Semi-Finals, Bracket 2
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/starlet.gif
Starlet, the star goddess. She managed beat Phantom and her close relative Seraphim with her "Group Hug", will she manage to continue her flawless record?
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/phoenix.gif
Phoenix, beating the rather weak Stray and Ragnarok,he made it to the Semi-Finals. Now it’s his time to show that he’s worthy of being here.
To "mix" it up a bit. ๐
Has story relevance and has life 3. How could it die?
Starlet – 4
Phoenix – 5
Wow. That sure was close. I didn’t cast my vote, as I want to keep it as tie joker.
That means Phoenix proceeds to the finals.
And now, the last battle before the finals!
Semi-Final, Bracket 3
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/alexandr.gif
Alexander, the holy machine of doom. He beat two water-based espers, Siren and Bismark, rather easily. Will he make it to the finals now that he is up against something else?
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/palidor.gif
Palidor, the big bird of wind. He surprisingly made it to the semi-finals, defeating in Terrato and Carbuncle in the last 2 rounds. Will he be able to fly away from Alexander?
Alexander – 6
Palidor – 3
Oh Snap. Alexander outnumbered the purple bird. This will be a very interesting last match.
*takes a deep breath*
Okay, the final round is here. This will be the last round of this rumble, so be sure to cast your vote. As I said in the beginning, to make things more exciting, this rumble will be decided by a last round with 3 finalists. To make it even more exciting, every voter has to give once 2 points and once 1 point. After this round I will count together all points for each finalist, and the Esper with the highest amount of points will win this rumble.
Just as an example for that way:
X – 2 points
Y – 1 point
Alright… let’s start the Final!
FINAL ROUND
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/maduin.gif http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/phoenix.gifhttp://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/alexandr.gif
Maduin vs. Phoenix vs. Alexander
FIGHT!!
Maduin
So I guess Maduin recieves 2 points from each of you, but where do you put your 1 point votes?
Phoenix for 1 point.
You said it was an "option." If people vote for one particular choice and then you ask them, "Hey, where the heck is your 1 pointer," it would suggest to me that you’re implying that it’s not an "option," it’s mandatory.
Maduin – 2
Phoenix – 1
Alexander gets nothing and deserves nothing. ๐
Oh, and if it is, in fact, an option, Maduin – 3.
Maduin-1
Phoenix – 1 point
Phoenix – 1
Maduin – 1
Maduin-1
So, let’s present the winners!
Third Place with 5 points goes to
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/alexandr.gif
ALEXANDER!
Second Place with 9 points…
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/phoenix.gif
PHOENIX!!
And the Winner is, with whopping 17 points…
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/maduin.gif
MADUIN!!!
Congratulations to Maduin!
Finally, this rumble finds an end! But there ain’t be everything over now. Now it’s up to you. Suggest me topics for the next FFVI rumble, and I’ll consider them. =)
And how about Locations? ‘Cause VI definitely has some pretty awesome ones. (And I’m musiced out the wazoo– that’s what every rumble has been doing lately.)
I also like the locations, so it will definitely be considered.
All the rust XP
Give me a few days to get together locations, and stuff them into a rumble-able layout. You can also nominee some you’d like to see!
So, what I’ll definitely have:
Narshe
Figaro
Kefka’s Tower
Doma
Land of Espers
Zozo
Opera House
Jidoor
The Veldt
Fanatics’ Tower
Thamasa
Phantom Forest
Phantom Train
Colosseum
Floating Continent
Solitary Island
Triangle Island / Inside of the Zone Eater
Kohlingen
Daryl’s Tomb
Vector
Mt. Koltz
Ebot’s Rock
Ancient Castle
Lete River
Imperial Camp
Cyan’s Dream
Mobliz
Magitek Research Facility
Owzer’s House
Any other ideas? I want to have 32 places, with these I have still 3 nominees free to choose.
I will select the 32 most interesting out of them, maybe drop some of my selections, if your nominee is good enough.
Until then!
Now, let’s start the new rumble away!
ROUND 1
Will feature all 32 chosen locations. I mixed them up so it’s hardly possible for some of those standing next to each other to face. I hope we’ll find some good result, and let’s see if, like the rumble just behind us, features an underdog as winner of it.
Fight 1
The Airships
The Blackjack, and in the World of Ruin, the Falcon, are the two airships featured in Final Fantasy VI. The Blackjack is property of Setzer, and the Falcon was the airship of his lost love, Daryl. You need the airships, otherwise you can’t proceed in the game, and a few fights are fought on it, such as the fight against Doomgaze. Here gather all of your characters.
vs.
Narshe
The mining town in the cold area. The place where all of the story starts, and, eventually, you’ll be returning to this town more than once. It’s a good and independent town, and wants to protect itself, and, as well, the Esper Tritoch, who is, frozen, hidden deep inside of the mountain.
LOL? Agent is LOL-ing? Oh my, does that mean I could end the battle early? ^^,
Airships – 0
Narshe – 6
And Narshe proceeds quickly into the next level.
ROUND 2
Kohlingen
A small town you pass by during the game’s storyline. This is were Locke lived a lot of time in his past, and was together with Rachel before she died. In the basement of a house there’s also the place were Rachel is laid out in a bed surrounded by flowers.
vs.
Solitary Island
This is the first place you see after Kefka destroyed the World (of Balance). As Celes, you live in a small hut together with Cid, who is very weakened and ill. Depending on your actions, he will die or survive. After this short (and, if ending bad, sad) intermezzo in the storyline, you will leave that little island to go and search for the other characters.
I don’t remember anything special about Kohlingen
Kohlingen – 5
Solitary Island – 5
W…what’s that! A draw. While the first rumble didn’t have this scenario, this one has, already in the second battle! But fear not, my dear participants, I have decided to spare my votes for exactly cases like these, and therefore my vote will decide which location will proceed into the next round. And this will be Solitary Island. Sorry, Locke-fans…
With that, I have to make an announcement… I think we maybe could speed up this rumble a bit when in the first 2 rounds we have 2 battles for each bracket. Although I’ll continue with the normal battle now, I’ll ask you to cast a vote if you want to have 2 battles in each "prelim"-round. If yes, then it will start when the battle after this one is done, so I have an even number I can work with.
But, enough rambling, let’s see the opponents for this battle!
BATTLE 3
Serpent Trench
This is an underwater route. It connects the northern part of the world with the southern, and you can use it so you don’t have to walk or fly all the way. During the game you also will use the Serpent Trench a few times. It also has a cave. Oh, and the music playing while going through it is very nice and calming. ^_^
vs.
Figaro Castle
The glorious mechanical castle and home to King Edgar. This is one of the first places you’ll visit, and here you will meet up with its reigner. Also here takes the first meeting with Kefka place ("Edgar you pinhead! Why do you have to live in the middle of Nowhere? These recon jobs are the pits! Ahem… there’s SAND on my boots!"). This castle has the ability to dive into the sand and change locations to several desert areas in this way. And, also notable, it has Chocobo Knights. Myes it has.
(edit: I’m seeing a rather fast ended round on this one… I already can predict who the winner will be. ^^,)
Figaro Castle – 9
The Serpent Trench – 0
As Agent agrees with speeding up, I will proceed in doing so in the next round. As said, I will do this one so I have an even number of 4 completed battles.
BATTLE 4
Returners’ Hideout
Well… it’s the base of the rebels against the Empire. It’s in a mountain. This is were you first meet Banon, the leader of the Returners. And it’s pretty small.
vs.
Kefka’s Tower
The residence of the evil Kefka in the World of Ruin. You will have to explore this HUGE place with 3 teams, and it’s stuffed with dangerous random encounters and set Boss battles, like the one against Atma. Here also is the last of the Eight Dragons hiding. You will have to go a long and riddling way until you finally find Kefka.
This is also a rather humiliating battle, if you ask me… Again I know already which place will proceed. ๐ก
The Returners’ Hideout is so boring =\
Kefka’s Tower – 6
Returner’s Hideout – (surprisingly) 2
This means Kefka’s Tower proceeds. Now that I have an even number, I can start on doing double battles for now, so let’s start.
For the votes, please make it the way it’s shown here:
Hyrule and Mushroom Kingdom
This one will prove to be exciting and is, in my opinion, rather ironic…
BATTLE 5
Magitek Research Facility
Another example for the rather dark setting of this game. In this laboratory a lot of Espers are kept as hostages. Their magical powers are drained for equipping the Magitek Armours with these attributes. A lot of Espers died in this facility and this is where you get your first Magicites, the remains of them.
vs.
The Land of the Espers
Hidden well behind a gate in the deepest insides of (if I remember correctly) Crescent Mountain, this place is where the peaceful Espers were born and living until the Empire invaded it and captured its inhabitants. This is were Maduin and Madonna lived their life and Terra was born.
and
BATTLE 6
Mobliz
In the World of Balance, this is a mere standard town, however, after Kefka’s destruction, Mobliz is home to only the town’s children. Terra got there after the destruction and became the children’s protector.
vs.
Zozo
This town reminds me a bit of London, only more vicious. It’s always raining in Zozo, the town of bandits, thieves and other scum. It has a rather modern look in comparison to all the other towns in the game (except maybe Vector). This place is filled with random encounters and you have to go there for a few times, in the World of Ruin mainly to get Cyan back in your party.
Mobliz I dislike Zozo
Ebichu… there’s two votes to cast.
Mobilz
Magitek Research Facility – 4
Land of the Espers – 6
Battle 6
Mobliz – 6
Zozo – 5
This makes 2 incredibly close battles, and Mobliz as well as The Land of the Espers proceed into the next round. Now with these cleared up, we’ll have the next 2 rounds to go!
BATTLE 7
Owzer’s House
The house of the odd artist Owzer, it is located in Jidoor, but deserves an own mention overall. This mansion is where you’ll find Relm in the World of Ruin (only if you saved Shadow on the Floating Continent, though), and it’s filled with magical artworks jumping out of their frames to attack you. You’ll also have pictures of doors leading into other parts of the house. As boss to this twisted dungeon, fittingly, there’s Chardanook, the two faced painting, once being a beautiful woman, but turns into an ugly demon.
vs.
Doma (Castle)
This is the home to Cyan and his family. You’ll first visit Doma when the game’s storylines split up. Unfortunately, this is the place to be hit with Kefka’s poison. He poisoned the river and all inhabitants of Doma died due to consuming it, making Cyan (who wasn’t there at this moment) the last survivor. Doma is one of the most tragic places in the game.
and (although I could save me that one…)
BATTLE 8
Cyan’s Dream
Oddly enough, the second battle features the other location directly linked to Cyan. This nightmare is part of gaining Cyan’s last Sword Techniques. You will go through the memories of the swordsman, see his family again and the dreaded Wrexsoul who is guarding this dream, much like the Dream Stooges.
vs.
The Opera House
Ah yes, the Opera House. This is the most important part for Celes’ story, as she is chosen to replace the main singer because she’s a look-alike. Here you’ll also meet up again with Ultros, and, one of the Eight Dragons is located in it. The scene with Celes singing is one of the most memorables (though, due to SNES-quality a little goofy sounding) parts of the whole game, and the song she sings, Aria de Mezzo Carattere, also is, in a remixed form, her own theme, and, a very beautiful one on top of that.
I liked Cyan. What can I say?
Battle 7
Owzer’s House – 0
Doma – 9
Battle 8
Cyan’s Dream – 2
Opera House – 7
This means Doma and the Opera House proceed!
BATTLE 9
Lete River
This place is were the story splits up in two substories, eventually leading to get more party members. This havoc is caused by Ultros, whose first encounter is on this river. You’ll fight on a raft, which makes this place unique to the FF-series.
vs.
The Veldt
This place is the wide plain in the west. You’ll first meet Gau on this place, and this is were you can get the kind-of Blue Magic for him. Yes, from the monsters. This area has an own theme, and stays on the World of Ruin. All I can say is "Awouuu!"
and
BATTLE 10
Triangle Island and the Zone Eater
This is a small island in the World of Ruin. The practically only mentionable thing on it is the random encounter of the giant worm-like creature called "Zone Eater". If it sucks you in, you’ll find yourself in a cave, and in this cave you’ll find Gogo, the mime. For the sake of sparing you so much typing, we’ll go with "Triangle Island" on that one.
vs.
The Floating Continent
Ah yes. The final dungeon before the World of Ruin. This place raises after Kefka activated the Goddess Statues, and you will encounter him as well as Emperor Gestahl and the bosses Atma and Nerapa there. Gestahl, who would have nearly stopped the trouble, eventually is killed by Kefka, and you in the end will have to run and leave the world to Kefka.
Lete River – 0
The Veldt – 7
Battle 10
Triangle Island – 0
Floating Continent – 7
These results are pretty clear, aren’t they.
BATTLE 11
Imperial Camp
This is the place where you first meet Leo. This camp is siegeing Doma and this is the place where Kefka pours poison into the river to wipe out Doma. Not much else to say about it.
vs.
Jidoor
This is one of the bigger towns in FFVI. It features Owzer’s House and the auction house, where you can get several Espers. It’s also the next town to the Opera House.
and
BATTLE 12
Ancient Castle
This is something I’d call "generic dungeon", and actually the only one in the whole game. The Ancient Castle appears in the World of Ruin, and in it you will find a whole lot of grand items. One of the Eight Dragons is here, and you can upgrade Odin to Raiden in this dungeon.
vs.
Fanatics’ Tower
Another optional dungeon. This is one of the oddest places in the game, as the tower hinders you using anything else but magic. The enemies on this tower are powerful mages, throwing out Meteor or Merton with ease. When you reach the top you will get the very grand item Gem Box. However, you also will face the Magi Master, one of the most annoying enemies and one of the most powerful ones on top of that.
lol ๐
Imper. Camp – 1
Jidoor – 8
Battle 12
Ancient Castle – 1
Fanatics’ Tower – 8
Another rather clear result… Jidoor and Fanatics’ Tower proceed, leaving Ancient Castle and Imperial Camp behind.
BATTLE 13
Ebot’s Rock
This place is not really big. It’s an optional dungeon, which will bring you Strago’s most powerful Lure spell after defeating its boss. It features a chest hungering for corals, a lot of said corals, and, behind that chest, after you feeded it enough, is Hidon awaiting.
vs.
Thamasa
And this is the place where the person giving you that quest resides. Thamasa is a small town inhabited by the only human people left who can use magic. This also means Stragus with his odd Lure-magic, and Relm with her magical art abilities. Shadow’s past also is linked to this town, which actually is the last town you’ll see in the World of Balance before visiting the Floating Continent. In Thamasa you’ll also have to rescue people from a burning house. And yeah.
BATTLE 14
Mt. Koltz
Ah yes, Mt. Koltz. The first actual dungeon you’ll visit after the Narshe mines. You’ll have to use Sabin’s first Blitz move to win against the boss, Sabin’s teacher’s son Vargas. Other than that, this dungeon is the first featuring a mountain theme, and it’s rather generic, too.
vs.
Phantom Forest
A deep and dark forest, the Phantom Forest is the place you’ll see before entering the Phantom Train. This is where you go after the Doma catastrophe. It’s a rather small place, since it’s just a pre-dungeon, but still… its eerie looks and the dark music make it perfectly fitting as such.
Ebot’s Rock – 0
Thamasa – 6
Battle 14
Mt. Koltz – 1
Phantom Forest – 5
Ebot’s Rock and Mt. Koltz both were pretty much a no-show, although I expected more of latter. This means Thamasa and Phantom Forest proceed to the next round – leaving us with the next 2 battles, and the last ones for this round!
BATTLE 15
Vector
The capital of the Empire. This place is dark, and very industrial. There are two important places in Vector, one being the Imperial Palace, the other one being the Magitek Research Facility. In the World of Ruin, Vector seems to have drowned, therefore making it one of the few World of Balance-only places.
vs.
Phantom Train
One of the oddest dungeons. This thing is part of Sabin’s storyline. The Phantom Train is filled with ghosts and undead, one of them being the young helpful ????, a ghost you can put in your party. His special ability is to possess enemies, and after he did, you have to get him again. ???? however is only helping you while being on the train. The boss is the locomotive of the train itself, and one of the hardest bosses in the game if you don’t know what to do.
BATTLE 16
Daryl’s Tomb
This place is where you get the Falcon, the airship of Setzer’s dead love Daryl. It’s a very nice dungeon, although being stuffed with undead monsters. You will face Dullahan as boss, and then learn about Setzer’s past and recieve your new vehicle.
vs.
Colosseum
This place is absolutely optional, and only in the World of Ruin. Here you can choose a character and a wager. Depending on the latter, you will face a certain enemy. If you manage to beat him, you will get a better item than the one you wagered. If you lose, well… you can guess what happens then.
Vector – 1
Phantom Train – 10
Battle 16
Daryl’s Tomb – 7
Colosseum – 5
This means the Phantom Train and Daryl’s Tomb proceed. Round 1 has ended! :3
R O U N D 2
BATTLE 17
Narshe vs. Solitary Island
and
BATTLE 18
Floating Continent vs. Figaro Castle
Floating Continent a bit less obvious heh
Narshe – 10
Solitary Island – 2
Battle 18
Floating Continent – 8
Figaro – 4
Wow, I didn’t think Solitary Island and especially Figaro would have such a weak showing… Anyway, Narshe and Floating Continent proceed.
BATTLE 19
Phantom Train vs. Doma
and
BATTLE 20
Kefka’s Tower vs. Daryl’s Tomb (this actually is needless, but for the records…)
"roll up for the ghost train, nonstop, through the city"
"love is a ghost train, howling on the radio"
Daryl’s Tomb
Mwuahahaha
Kefka’s Tower
Kefka’s Tower
On that last battle, though, it was Figaro Castle that lost and not Figaro, wasn’t it? Because you said Figaro Castle originally, but put "Figaro" in the results, so I wasn’t sure.
Battle 19
Doma – 1
Phantom Train – 9
Battle 20
Daryl’s Tomb – 1
Kefka’s Tower – 9
Clear victories. <_<
Anyway. On with the program.
BATTLE 21
The Veldt vs. Jidoor
and
BATTLE 22
Opera House vs. Fantatics’ Tower (another one of those unnecessary ones…)
Veldt – 5
Jidoor – 8
Battle 22
Opera House – 12
Fanatics’ Tower – 1
Two rather clear victories. Jidoor and (oh, surprise victory!) the Opera House proceed into the next round.
The last two battles of this round, then we’ll have one battle each time, again!
BATTLE 23
Thamasa vs. Mobliz
and
BATTLE 24
Phantom Forest vs. Land of the Espers
Phantom Forest
^^
Same, Mobliz is right next to the Vedlt, and I believe that’s where Cyan fucks Lola.
Phantom Forest is just awesome.

I fucked Lola!? News to me! I need to lay off the rum a bit, mir?
Thamasa – 5
Mobliz – 6
Battle 24
Phantom Forest – 8
Land of the Espers – 3
A very close victory for Mobliz, and a rather clear one for Phantom Forest… You’ll see what you made with that!! Anyway. This round ends here, and we’ll start the next one.

Battle 25
Narshe
Biggs: There’s the town…
Wedge: Hard to believe an Esper’s been found intact there, 1000 years after the War of the Magi…
Biggs: Think it’s still alive?
Wedge: Probably… judging from the urgency of our orders.
Biggs: And this woman, this… sorceress, why’s she here? I heard she fried 50 of our Magitek Armoured soldiers in under 3 minutes!
Wedge: Not to worry. The Slave Crown on her head robs her of all conscious thought. She’ll follow orders.
vs.
Jidoor
"My Dear Maria,
I want you for my wife. I’m coming for you…
The Wandering Gambler"
Locke: Who’s this "Wandering…?" whats-his-name?
Master: You born on a farm, son?
"A blackjack-playing, world-travelling, casino-dwelling free spirit…"
That’s Setzer, owner of the world’s only airship.
Celes: If we could get that airship, we’d make the Empire in no time.
Locke: Let’s set up a meeting… with Setzer…
Yeah, Narshe, definitely.
Narshe – all
Jidoor – none
I’m too lazy to count. Narshe wins. Yay. Surprise.
Okay, so… As I said, you would see what you have from voting both Phantoms into the quarter finals:
Battle 26
Phantom Forest
Sabin: Okay, I think we should be safe now! So, how do I get to Narshe from here?
Cyan: Narshe? I believe the only route passes through the forest to the south, but–
Sabin: All right! If we’re going into the woods, I guess we won’t be needing these hunks of scrap metal anymore. Let’s get going!
vs.
Phantom Train
Sabin: What in the world…?
Cyan: We must leave at once! This is the Phantom Train!
Sabin: It’s moving!
Cyan: We must get off this train at once!
Sabin: The door won’t open!
Cyan: I fear we are too late.
Sabin: What did you say this train was?
Cyan: This is the Phantom Train… It carries the souls of the departed to their…final destination.
Phantom Forest – 4
Phantom Train – 4
That’s another draw. Who would’ve thought Phantom Forest would get as many votes as Phantom Train? This means the decision on which location to proceed is up to me… and I choose… Phantom Train
Battle 27
Kefka’s Tower
Edgar: It’s time we took the battle to Kefka’s doorstep!
Setzer: What’s wrong?
Celes: …
Celes: The gods of the Warring Triad control the magic of the esper world… If we destroy them…
Edgar: …You’re worried about what might happen?
Celes: I’m not sure, but…
Celes: …Espers and magic might vanish from the world entirely.
Edgar: And if that happens…
Celes: …what’ll happen to Terra?
vs.
Mobliz
Duane: You can’t take Terra from us!
Katarin: Duane… Please, forgive him. It’s just…if we lose Terra, we lose the only thing that’s holding this village together.
Terra: I don’t know why these kids need me… And it’s not like there’s anything forcing me to protect them. It’s the strangest feeling… But once that feeling took root inside of me, I lost the strength to keep on fighting.
Terra: I feel like I’m on the verge of understanding something important. It’s hard to describe… But the harder I look for the answer, the more I lose my strength to fight.
Katarin: Terra is the glue that holds this village together. With her here, we’re somehow able to keep going.
Kefka’s Tower – 6
This means Kefka’s Tower succeeds. Hooray. Now for the last battle in this round, then we’ll already be at the Semi-Finals!

……….All the bosses I can think of.
You’re silly. =O
Bosses it is, then. Give me some time to prepare, puhlease.
I’ve selected a whole 64 bosses (including 6 bosses from FFVI Advance because I lacked a few), and all of them shall be voted on…
Since we have a whole lot of 64 bosses, I think we can vote the first 2 rounds for 2 each, to speed it up a little. As usual, I will update every few days.
Let’s start!
ROUND 1
Bracket 1 – Fight 1
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/ultros.gif
Ultros (First Encounter) is one of the first bosses the player fights. It’s located on Lete River, and the only boss fight where you have the NPC Banon alongside your party. It’s not really a challenging fight, but of course the very first encounter with the octopus.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/kefka.gif
Kefka (First Encounter) is the first fighting against the main villain of the game. He uses powerful magic attacks and flees after the battle. He’s fought at the Mountain Path of Narshe.
Bracket 2 – Fight 1
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/final3.gif
Pillar Part 2 is the second of three parts of the enemy pillar to the exhausting and long first half of the final battle in Kefka’s Tower. Its parts are Power (1 in the sprite picture), Magic (2), Tiger (3) and Machine (4). It has a big variation of attacks, of course related to the respective parts.
vs.
Kaiser Dragon is one of the FFVI Advance boss fights. It’s the most difficult boss fight in the whole game and has a huge amount of strong attacks. Kaiser Dragon was based off the Czar Dragon in the original FFVI, a dummied superboss which could not be achieved without the hacking of a ROM.
Pillar Part 2, as I’ve never played Advance.
Holy blast from the past. Let’s rock~
Kefka – 2
and
Pillar Part 2 – 3
Kaiser Dragon – 2
Close, but still. Well, I guess this thing has to get a bit into the roll again to get the old 10-ish votes per round! =D
Anyway, let’s go further! ^_^
Bracket 1 – Fight 2
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/kefka-finalform.gif
Kefka (Final Form), the final boss of Final Fantasy VI. Being the last 2 parts of the very enduring last battle of the game after the Pillar, Kefka uses many strong spells and has mad stats. His theme is, as we all know, "Dancing Mad", one of the longest final boss themes ever created, and one of the best on top of that. He’s the one who succeeded and reached his goal… yet after this fight, he would fail, and be defeated.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/atmaweapon.gif
Atma Weapon, one of the last bosses – if I remember correctly THE last boss – in the World of Balance. Interesting, how it gets paired up with the last boss in the World of Ruin. Anyway, Atma Weapon is also easily the strongest boss in the first part of the game, throwing powerful attacks at the player, being able to rapidly destroy the whole party… not surprising for a creature which was created to cause mass destruction! It also is known as "Ultima Weapon" in the Advance version of FFVI.
~
Bracket 2 – Fight 2
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/poltergeist.gif
Poltergeist, also known as "Demon" in the other versions of FFVI but the SNES one. He is part of the Warning Triad, the three statues awakening Kefka’s Final Form and leading the World of Balance into destruction. Demon is seen again as one of the myriad of boss fights in Kefka’s Tower, and thus a powerful enemy. Being able to cast Stop on a party member, and being able to kill them on instant, he’s one of the most challenging fights in the whole game.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/reddragon.gif
Red Dragon is one of the Eight Dragons, and wields powerful Fire Magic. It can be challenging if the party members don’t wear gear protecting them from flames. It is confronted in the Phoenix Cave, and is weak to ice.
Poltergeist
Poltergeist
Atma has a special place in my heart~
Poltergeist
Atma Weapon – 3
and
Red Dragon – 0
Poltergeist – 10
Well, those victories are quite clear, aren’t they?
Bracket 1 – Fight 3
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/guardian.gif
Guardian is a boss that is encountered several times in the game, but only in the last appearance it is vulnerable. It is a machine built to guard Vector, the capital of the Empire. The Guardian runs several battle programs mimicking other bosses of the game, in particular Ultros, Dadaluma, Airforce and Atma Weapon.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/golddragon.gif
Gold Dragon is another boss in Kefka’s Tower, and despite its name doesn’t really look like a dragon. Anyway, this guy is thunder elemental, and one of the Eight Dragons.
Bracket 2 – Fight 3
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/phunbaba.gif
Phunbaba, also called "Humbaba" after the SNES version. It’s a monster that terrorizes the town Mobliz in the World of Ruin. It is fought twice, and after the first battle, Phunbaba will drop the Fenrir Magicite. After the second battle, the defeat will cause Terra to re-join the party afterwards. It uses mainly Thundaga and Blow Fish, as well as the Baba Breath.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/final4.gif
Pillar Part 1 is the first third of the battle against the Pillar boss, the fight right before Kefka. It consists of Visage (1), Long Arm (2) and Short Arm (3). The latter two parts use mainly physical attacks, while the Visage is able to cast Magnitude 8 and Quake, but only when low on HP. It’s the easiest out of the dreadfully long fights.
And ummm Phunbaba.
Guardian – 7
Gold Dragon – 0
and
Pillar Part 1 – 1
Phunbaba – 6
Bracket 1 – Fight 4
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/atma.gif
Atma, also going by the name of "Ultima Buster", is one of the numerous boss monsters in Kefka’s Tower and the stronger cousin of the Atma Weapon. It casts the strongest spells in the game and is one of the more challenging enemies.
vs
Omega Weapon is a bonus boss in the GBA remake of Final Fantasy VI and is unlocked as boss of the Dragon’s Den upon defeating the Kaiser Dragon. It’s an even stronger version of Atma, and has a similar amount of HP. The twist is, that if its HP deplete, it fully regenerates them. The player has to defeat Omega Weapon thrice in order to kill it.
Bracket 2 – Fight 4
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/ultros2.gif
Ultros is fought during the plot several times after the first encounter at Lete River, which are in the Opera House, the Thamasa Mountains and before entering the Floating Continent. He’s not much of a challenge in most of the battles against him, but his funny remarks during them have made him a legend among recurring enemies.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/skulldragon.gif
Skull Dragon is one of the Eight Dragons, and among those which are confronted in Kefka’s Tower. It is weak to Holy and fire magic, and uses strong status changing magic, as well as the Doom spell. Being one of the more challenging out of the Eight Dragons, Skull Dragon is a force to be aware of.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/whelk.gif
Whelk, also known as "Ymir" in the GBA version, is the very first boss in Final Fantasy VI, and encountered in the Narshe Mines by Terra, Biggs and Wedge using their Magitek Armors. It constantly switches in between hiding in its shell and being outside of it, and the easiest key to victory is attacking the head. If the shell is attacked it will use a counter attack to damage the whole party.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/final2.gif
Pillar Part 3 is the last fight of the 3-part battle before confronting Kefka. Being only made up of two parts, it’s the pillar part with the least enemies on it, yet it is one of the hardest despite having the least HP. Girl or Lady, the top part, is using White Wind and Full Life, and every elemental spell will heal her. Sleep or Rest, the lower part, is using strong magic, including Meteor or Silence, and when dieing, will use Repose to kill off the party. Definitely one of the more challenging fights in the game.
Bracket 2 – Fight 5
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/masterpug.gif
Master Pug, also known as "Master Tonberry" in the GBA version, is a stronger cousin of the well-known Tonberry enemies in the Final Fantasy series. It’s a "monster in the box" type of enemy, popping up in a treasure chest in the Ancient Castle. Additionally to everything the common Tonberry does, the Master Pug uses a Barrier Change to swap its weakness to other elements, requiring the player to figure out what the weakness is, and it always uses a spell of the opposite side of its weakness (i.e. if it’s weak to Ice, it will use Firaga).
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/stormdragon.gif
Storm Dragon is one of the Eight Dragons and found at Mt. Zozo, being usually the first of the dragons the player encounters. It uses strong wind magic, such as Aero and is considered being one of the hardest, if not THE hardest of the Eight Dragons encountered.

Bracket 1 – Fight 6
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/katanasoul.gif
Katana Soul, also known as "Samurai Soul", is yet another "Monster in the box", hiding in the Ancient Castle, and guarding the Master’s Scroll. The boss uses several ninja scroll items and Gale Cut to attack, and when dropping to low HP, it starts to have Blink status and uses Assassin Blade, making Katana Soul a very difficult boss.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/tritoch.gif
Tritoch, which also has the name "Valigarmanda", is a boss fought in the World of Ruin’s Narshe… but it is already seen in the very beginning of the game. Due to the icey coat it has a ridiculous high defense, making it invulnerable to physical attacks. It is able to absorb ice elemental attacks, as well. By using Fire and defense-ignoring attacks, it is able to be defeated. Tritoch mainly uses Rasp to drain the party’s MP, but also can cast Blizzaga and Freezing Dust.
Bracket 2 – Fight 6
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/inferno.gif
Inferno is yet another boss hiding in Kefka’s Tower. It has two arms, called "Ketu" and "Rahu", and when all 3 are together, they are able to cast Delta Attack. When destroying the arms, Inferno can regenerate them. It also has devastating attacks and defensive spells, such as TekBarrier, Meteor, Atomic Ray, Giga Volt and other lightning-based spells. Since it’s a machine, it is weak to electricity, making its attacks also its weakness.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/siegfried.gif
Siegfried is a recurring "villain" like Ultros, whom he seems to have a rivalry with. He is first encountered on the Phantom Train, and then reappears several times in the game, though the only two ways to fight him are the encounter in the Phantom Train and the Colosseum. He’s a "treasure hunter" like Locke, and very weak despite his boastful mouth.
Katana Soul and Inferno are just a stronger copies of other enemies

Moe, also known as "Moebius" in the GBA version, is one of the Three Dream Stooges and encountered in Cyan’s Dream. With his two brothers, he can use Delta Attack. Moe uses Haste onto himself and his brothers, speeding them up, and casting Thundaga as attack and absorbs thunder damage.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/flameeater.gif
Flame Eater is a fire spirit encountered in Thamasa. It is able to summon Bomb and Grenade enemies, and fire-based magic. One of its most obnoxious tactics is after a few hits to cast Protect and Reflect on itself, then cast its fire magic onto itself to reflect it onto the party. The Flame Eater interestingly isn’t weak to Water, but only to Ice magic.
Bracket 2 – Fight 7
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/goddess.gif
Goddess is part of the Warring Triad statues, along with Doom and Poltergeist. First encountered as statue in the World of Balance, then as boss in Kefka’s Tower. Although she has the lowest HP of the statue trio, her abilities of Auto-Shell and Auto-Haste make her an extreme pain to overcome. She also uses powerful spells like Entice and Quasar. Her Cloudy Heaven causes the Condemned Status on the whole party, and when the counter hits zero, all of them will become zombies, able to make you lose the battle. She also counters physical attacks with Overture, which throws the damage right back at the attacker. Overall, she’s one of the most difficult battles in the game.
vs.
Dark Behemoth is a GBA-exclusive boss. It uses Mighty Guard to increase its defenses, and counters attacks with the powerful Heave, a physical attack. When it dies it casts Meteor or Ultima, both of which have high power and could catch the party unprepared.

Dirt Dragon, also known as "Earth Dragon" in the GBA version, is one of the Eight Dragons and encountered in the Opera House. It uses Earth-based attacks like Quake, Magnitude 8 and Landslide. It also is able to cast 50Gs. You can easily outwit this boss by casting Float on your party or equipping them Gaia Gears to have them absorb the damage.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/gigantos.gif
Gigantos is a monster-in-a-box and fought on the Floating Continent. It uses strong physical attacks, most notably Throat Jab. Casting Bio and Instant-Death spells make this opponent easy, but especially the Vanish-status is your friend here, as you can have Gigantos simply hit into the void.
Bracket 2 – Fight 8
Abyss Worm is a GBA-exclusive boss. It uses Gravity Bomb to cut a party member’s HP in half, as well as Acid to inflict Sap status. It also uses Quake and Magnitude 8, but these are weak due to its low magic power.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/craneright.gif
The Cranes are actually 2 enemies in one and fought in the Magitek Facility as the party tries to escape it. Aside from both being able to use a physical pincer attack and Magnitude 8, the Left Crane is resistant to lightning-based magic, which it casts, while the Right Crane is resistant to fire-based attacks, which is the element of spells it uses. They are both weak to water.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/doomgaze.gif
Doomgaze, also known as "Death Gaze" in the GBA version. Its location is randomly chosen in the sky and he can only be fought using the Falcon. Opening the battle with L.5 Death, and usually flees the battle after 2 or 3 rounds. It attacks using Death, Aero and Blizzaga. Weak to Fire and Holy, one of the best strategies is to use Fire and Pearl Rods on your party, since they ignore the massive defense and Auto-Shell on Doomgaze. Spells of those attributes work fine, as well. If Doomgaze is defeated, it will drop the Bahamuth Magicite.
vs.

Larry also known as "Laragorn" in the GBA version, is one of the Three Dream Stooges and encountered in Cyan’s Dream. With his two brothers, he can use Delta Attack. Larry is casting ice magic and able to flee the battle. He is weak to fire-based attacks and instant death spells.
Bracket 2 – Fight 9
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/chupon.gif
Chupon, also going by "Mr. Typhon" or simply "Typhon" in the GBA version. He’s a friend of Ultros and constantly victim of a strong cold. He is first encountered on the Blackjack when the party tries to attack the Floating Continent, and later seen in the Coliseum. He is summoned by Ultros in the first encounter. Chupon is absorbing Fire, but being weak to Ice and Water. When defeated, he uses Snort, sneezing the whole party off the airship.

Presenter, also named "Angler Whelk" in the GBA-version, is a monster-in-a-box and fought in Daryl’s Tomb. Basically a stronger version of Whelk, it just like its weaker cousin is not extremely much of a threat if the shell is not attacked. It still uses Giga Volt and Magnitude 8, though. Using Break on the shell will automatically kill the boss. If you defeat it, you get a Dragon Claw item, however, if you defeat both parts of the monster in one strike, you will gain two of them!

Rizopas or Rhizopas is encountered at Baren Falls by Sabin and Cyan. Outside of its El Ni???o attack, it doesn’t really have any threatening properties, and is not that challenging of a boss.
vs.
Marloboro Menace is a boss in the Advance version of Final Fantasy VI. At first it appears alone, but when killed it spawns two identical Malboro Menaces, and when they are killed, four more spawn. All the Malboro Menaces randomly use Blaster to counter attacks and spells used on them. They regularly use their signature Bad Breath and Diabolic Whistle to inflict many status ailments on the party, making them very dangerous.

Tentacles, are 4 enemies in one boss battle and fought in Figaro Castle’s basement. They use Stun, an attack that inflicts Slow on the victim, then grab it and absorb their HP and MP. They also cast Bio. The tentacles all have different weaknesses.

Vargas is the son of martial arts master Duncan, who trained both him and Sabin. He was supposed to take his father’s role as master of the dojo at Mt. Koltz, however, Sabin was better than him. He would think Sabin would become the next master and vice versa, making the two of them rivals. He then decides to climb the mountain and is encountered by Terra, Locke and Edgar, who are helped out by Sabin using a Blitz attack on his rival to defeat him. Vargas uses strong physical attacks, as well as Doom Fist. After defeating him, Sabin joins the party.

White Dragon or Holy Dragon is one of the Eight Dragons, and encountered in Fanatics’ Tower. It only attacks using Holy, which can be reflected, making this battle potentially easy with Reflect Rings, as the Dragon will waste turns by casting Dispel. It also can be silenced. It has the lowest HP out of the eight dragons, but no actual weakness.

Tunnel Armor is encountered by Locke and Celes in the South Figaro Cave. Before the fight commences, Celes describes to Locke how she can absorb magic with her Runic ability, an asset which proves valuable during the fight. However, if they collected the Thunder Rod hidden in the cave, it can be used to instantly destroy the Tunnel Armor for an easy victory.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/bluedragon.gif
Blue Dragon or is one of the Eight Dragons, and encountered in the Ancient Castle. It’s element is Water and it casts Tsunami, Flash Rain and Acid Rain. The latter is especially dangerous as it uses Sap and the whole party. Blue Dragon is also capable of casting Rippler, so if one of the party members has a positive status effect, he will create a negative on himself and switch it with the party member’s. He is weak the Thunder-based attacks.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/umaro.gif
Umaro, or "Yeti" in the GBA version, is encountered in the Umaro Cave. He is easy to defeat, as he is weak against Fire and Poison. He attacks with physical attacks, Tackle and Ice Storm. Halfway through the battle, he uses a Green Cherry to increase his stats, and he then starts attacking with Surge and Snowball. If Mog is around when defeating Umaro, the big guy will join the party.

Doom, or "Fiend" in the GBA version, is part of the Warring Triad statues, along with Goddess and Poltergeist. First encountered as statue in the World of Balance, then as boss in Kefka’s Tower. It has 3 phases. First it starts out using Blizzaga and Northern Cross. After getting reduced to about half of its HP, it starts targetting a character in the party, then using Fiendish Rage. After it’s on low health, it’s "Aura starts to tremble violently", leading into the status of Haste, Blink and Reflect. It also uses Force Field in this phase.
vs.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/icedragon.gif
Ice Dragon is the last of the Eight Dragons (I swear!), and fought in Narshe. It’s element is (here it comes) Ice. It uses Northern Cross and Absolute Zero and is weak to Fire (what a surprise). It also most likely will lose this battle. Poor thing.
Bracket 2 – Fight 13
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/wrexsoul.gif
Wrexsoul is the last boss encountered in Cyan’s Nightmare. It starts out with 2 Soul Saver enemies among it. Wrexsoul starts off each battle by using an attack called Zinger, which makes it disappear and possess a character’s body. In order to get it to reappear, the character whom it possessed must be defeated. As such, the party members must defeat and revive each other until Wrexsoul reappears.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/no128.gif
No. 128, is a boss encountered when the party tries to flee the Magitek Research Facility. He always starts the battle with Net, which casts Stop on a party member, and he uses it randomly throughout the rest of the battle. He also counters all physical attacks with Red Feast, a physical attack that acts like the Drain spell, restoring some of his HP. If his Right and Left Blades are destroyed, Number 128 will use Gale Cut, a powerful Wind attack that hits the entire party.

Chadarnook is encountered in Owzer’s mansion, and has two forms that randomly alternate between each other, one being a beautiful woman, the other a demon. The Woman is invincible, as she regenerates when killed. She counters most attacks with Phantasm, which inflicts HP Leak, a status similar to Poison and Seizure that cannot be cured. She can also use Charm to inflict a similar status to Muddle that cannot be cured. The demon is much easier, as it has about half the Woman’s HP and only uses Thunder and Thundara spells to attack. It absorbs Lightning but is weak to Holy and Fire.

No. 024 is a boss fought in the Magitek Research Facility. It can use Barrier Change to alter its elemental weaknesses and immunities, and can also confuse party members using Overflow. However, Number 024 has a vulnerability to the status ailment Imp. Although it may miss at first, once Imp is cast Number 024 can only use a physical attack, making the battle much easier.
Bracket 2 – Fight 14
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/airforce.gif
Airforce is faced before entering the Floating Continent. It starts out with a Missile Bay and a Laser Gun flanking it, and after these are destroyed, it summons a Bit. The MissileBay attacks with Missile, which can cause Seizure. When it gets low on HP, it begins to use Launcher. Laser Gun uses powerful magic such as Atomic Ray that affects all characters, as well as Tek Laser. When it gets low on HP it begins using Diffuser instead of Atomic Ray, which is actually weaker. During this time, Air Force itself uses Tek Laser and Diffuser until both of its allies are defeated. The Bit does not attack; it is a permanent Runic and prevents any Magic from being used or Espers being summoned. It should be defeated as quickly as possible so party members can use spells again. Air Force will begin counting down from six without attacking, and when it reaches zero, it uses WaveCannon, a very powerful Lightning-elemental attack used against all characters. It then resets the counter, but starts at three instead.

When his Lobos are alive, he will use the Net ability, which inflicts Stop on one character, which can be dangerous. Once the Lobos are dead, he begins attacking with Charge, a massive physical attack.

Nerapa is encountered when escaping the Floating Continent. It is not a threat, however, its purpose is to waste time in a timed area. It starts off the battle by casting Doom on the entire party. It is easy to defeat using physical attacks, but magic doesn’t work since it has Reflect. It attacks with Fira, Firaga, and Fireball. Firaga is slightly dangerous.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/hidon.gif
Hidon is encountered at Ebot’s Rock. It is a monster that was hunted by Strago and Gungho while they were in their youth, however, they were never able to defeat it. Hidon is flanked by four Hidonites (or Erebus in the GBA version). These enemies use various status attacks on the party, and they each have different weaknesses and strengths. If one in the party is to die during this part, Hidon will use Crypt Dust on the dead party member, turning it into a Zombie. It can also cast Bio. Once all the Hidonites are defeated, Hidon uses the lethal Grand Delta. Like other undead monsters, he can be defeated simply by using a Phoenix Down or any other revival spell on him.

SrBehemoth (Living) or Behemoth King in the GBA version, is encountered in the Cave in the Veldt. It guards either Shadow or Relm’s wounded body and is relatively easy to defeat. It has two forms: a living form and an undead form, and both are fought consecutively with no break in between. It uses Evil Claw which removes Reflect from the target, and is weak to Fire and Poison.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/magimaster.gif
MagiMaster is encountered on the top of the Fanatics’ Tower after picking up the Gem Box. Being one of the most difficult bosses in the battle, MagiMaster attacks with Fira, Blizzara, Thundara, Firaga, Blizzaga, Thundaga, Bio, Silence, and Death, which can do massive damage with his stellar Magic Power. Thankfully, all of his attacks can be reflected. Whenever he is attacked, he uses Barrier Change to change his weakness and immunities, which can cause frustration. He is susceptible to Berserk, which will stop him from changing his weakness. If MagiMaster is defeated and has enough MP left, he will use Ultima as last attack.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b169/YenoHyena/ff6/bosses/ghosttrain.gif
Ghost Train is fought at the end of the Phantom Train. Because it is undead, a common strategy of beating it involves using a Phoenix Down for an instant victory. Its attacks include the dangerous Diabolic Whistle, which inflicts a random status ailment on each party member, and Acid Rain and Saintly Beam, both of which do mediocre magic damage to the entire party.
vs.
Leviathan is a boss exclusive to the GBA version of the game. He can be fought by taking the ferry between South Figaro and Nikeah once the party has acquired the Falcon. Leviathan starts the battle with Tsunami and uses it periodically through the battle with Aqua Breath and El Nino. He also has a powerful physical and counters attacks with Entwine, which casts Slow. I highly second a FFVI music rumble!
Thirded!
I’m for music as well. That makes it 5 votes. And best moments would also be a good rumble.
I remember a few, but most of them involve Kefka.
"Edgar you pinhead, why do you have to live in the middle of nowhere?! Ahem, there’s SAND on my boots!"
So yea, I guess we’ll do music.
*revs up chainsaw*
*slaughters everyone in the thread out of happiness*
I’ve felt a strong urge to say it ๐ But i have to agree -the only quotes in my head now, are those by Kefka or tentacle rape allusions by Ultros…
As usual, I will update every few days.
I will provide YouTube links to the music so you can have a listen before voting. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to remember where each track is played; I will try to tell you what I remember, though!
Let’s start!
ROUND 1
Bracket 1 – Fight 1
Edgar and Sabin’s Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyPVit8Mveo) is played as, well, character theme to the Figaro brothers, as well as the castle of Figaro itself. It’s a strong and majestic theme, and one of the first character themes the player actually hears.
vs.
Magitek Research Facility (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTmfWqeTKYY) is played in the… well… Magitek Research Lab. Quite some self-explanatory music tracks this time around. With machine beats and robot sounds to boot, this theme makes a great BGM for the laboratory.
Bracket 2 – Fight 1
Victory Fanfare (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kB_l4AdtJds) or just "Fanfare". One of the most notable music themes in Final Fantasy’s history, this music is played whenever you win a battle. Quite victorious, this rendition of the theme fits perfectly fine to the steampunk feel of the game, what with guitar riffs in the background.
vs.
Cyan’s Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxlXuI98NPw) is the character theme for the courteous swordsman. It is also played in Doma, Cyan’s home castle that is poisoned by Kefka. Cyan’s Theme is a very strong theme, with the melancholical feel of the character swinging in it as well, very well displayed by the flute.

ROUND 1
Bracket 1 – Fight 2
Aria di Mezzo Carattere (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knI4nYlLt0Y) is the best-known song from the Opera part in the game, and shares the melody with Celes’ Theme. Just like the other opera songs, it has a synth played as voice, and it’s not even half bad. It’s a song about the lost love of the singing character portrayed, and a very strong piece.
vs.
Balance is Restored is the very long ending theme to the game, and plays along the credits. It’s a medley of many of the game’s themes, as it shows the characters’ stories after the fight against Kefka, if I recall correctly. Due to it being a medley, there’s little to say about it.
This is a multi-part link due to its enormous length:
Part 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgHq4w0u-Js)
Part 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCqqz9-yNxw)
Part 3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xztIK06IsCw)
Bracket 2 – Fight 2
Techno de Chocobo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxdbJBoH9I0) is one of the many many Chocobo themes in the series, and is played when riding a chocobo. It takes the original melody and makes it an electronic sounding song. A very interesting theme, to say the least.
vs.
Kids Run Through the City (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZPH9W8ARYo) is used for most towns in the game. It has a very relaxing feel to it, and is definitely one of the better town themes in the series. I especially like the flute here.
Kids Run Through the City
Honestly, the Opera and the most tranquil piece of music I have EVER heard. These are reason enough to make this soundtrack the greatest EVAR.

ROUND 1
Bracket 1 – Fight 3
Setzer’s Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSQ4hcevUxI) is the character theme of Setzer, and used when flying with his airship, the Blackjack. This is a very heroic theme, that however manages to shove in the gambling nature of the character it displays. Overall, one of the most fitting character themes in this game.
vs.
Battle to the Death (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_1_dKYiEqk) is used in only a few boss battles, like the battle against Atma. Unlike the other boss theme, Battle to the Death is an extremely threatening theme that displays the extreme power of the enemy you are facing here. A very good piece of music.
Bracket 2 – Fight 3
Kefka’s Tower (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsfEMkIOu6w) is the theme played in… well… Kefka’s Tower, and a very atmospheric tune. It has this feeling of "You entered the lair of the villain, and you will not make it out of here alive…", if you get what I mean. Easily one of the best themes for a final dungeon in the series.
vs.
The Serpent Trench (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTS0Qncarho) is played when travelling with the Serpent Trench. Since this thing is under water, the theme has a typical "underwater" touch, being rather calm and deep. One of the more relaxing songs in the game, as well, The Serpent Trench is a very nice piece in this soundtrack.

ROUND 1
Bracket 1 – Fight 4
Forever Rachel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwT_wT6CgsE) is played in Locke’s flashbacks involving his dead lover Rachel. It shares the same melody as Locke’s character theme, and is one of the most melancholical themes in the game. One of my personal favourites.
vs.
The Prelude (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JH4O-OpVH8), the theme song that is ported from Final Fantasy to Final Fantasy since the first game. It’s been a very good and calming theme since its very first iteration, and is the same in this one.
Bracket 2 – Fight 4
Spinach Rag (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXY_Xglp4xM) is used whenever Kappa talks about Gau’s special abilities, as well as in the entrance to the Opera. One of the more lighthearted themes in Final Fantasy VI, Spinach Rag has a very casino-ish feeling.
vs.
Umaro’s Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2f2R1Pbmhc) is the character theme of Umaro, one of the 3 secret characters in the game. Just like its opponent being one of the more lighthearted songs, Umaro’s Theme represents the character it displays very well.
Spinach Rag
And, um, what do you mean 3 hidden characters? Was there one in the Advance Copy that I know nothing of because I didn’t do anything that wasn’t canon?
Mog appears in the main story in the caves of Narshe right in the beginning, but him actually joining the party is a secret event you have to trigger first.
I dunno, I don’t think that it is naturally bound to the story that you go into the Caves of Narshe in WoR and look for the Moogle Cave again.
Didn’t see your edit, til now. Oh well, not really important.
and
Spinach Rag
Yea, I know. But if you don’t specifically go after him in the WoR, you will never know he is an actual playable character. If you have this train of thought, the ghost on the Phantom Train is a non-hidden playable character, and so are all the other moogles, as well as Wedge and Biggs.
Oh, and Banon, too.
Didn’t see your edit, til now. Oh well, not really important.
Possibly, yes. As said, it’s been a while since I played the game, so I most likely have forgotten some of the places and occasions a theme is played.
You want me to clean up this conversation when it comes time to count the votes, just let me know.
Nah, it’s okay. That’s why there’s the bolding after all. :3

ROUND 1
Bracket 1 – Fight 5
What? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAr2lmfmZBs), or also called "!?", is a rather goofy track and played in several comical or strange cutscenes. One of the few light-hearted tracks in VI.
vs.
From That Day On… (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeRQDUxBRes), also called "The Day After", replaces Kids Run Through the City after the World of Balance turns into the World of Ruin, making it the new town theme. It’s a very sad theme that expresses the despair and devastation of the survivors of Kefka’s attacks.
Bracket 2 – Fight 5
The Veldt (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhA6yN6-jd4), also known as "Wild West", is played in the wide plain called the Veldt, Gau’s home. Here is the only place where Gau can learn his special monster abilities. It seems to be a bit inspired by Native American music, what with its strong emphasis on drums and its very tribal feeling. A very good and memorable theme.
vs.
Phantom Train (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AIkF73tOws) is played on the Ghosttrain. Easily my absolute favourite piece in this game, Phantom Train expresses the exact feeling of what boarding a train full of ghosts would be like. It’s a slow and melancholical theme, and I especially love the intro with the train starting to move.

ROUND 1
Bracket 1 – Fight 6
Troops March On (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_B2YyHPJcLg) is played mainly in situations involving the Empire’s troops, or their camps. It’s a very militaristic theme and is supposed to show the superiority of the Empire’s power.
vs.
Gogo’s Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHJymBuBvkM) is the character theme for the secret character Gogo who is found inside of the Zone Eater. There’s many mysteries resolving this mimic’s identity, and even gender. Gogo has a slightly goofy theme, which is very fitting to the odd character. Easily one of my favourite themes in the game.
Bracket 2 – Fight 6
Relm’s Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VUWrf_sk0s) is the theme of the character Relm, known for her sketching abilities and the odd connection to the mercenary Shadow. The theme is very calm and melancholic, although it probably doesn’t suit the sassy personality Relm displays most of the time all too well. Nevertheless a beautiful theme, and I like the bagpipe-like instrument here the most.
vs.
Slam Shuffle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyJH9tmppWU) is used in the rogue’s town of Zozo. The track has heavy rain in its background, just like Zozo is always haunted by rain. It’s a very interesting theme, not particularly goofy or lighthearted, but still not one of the "typically" dark or sad themes FFVI usually uses. It’s a great and memorable song and has a very casino-ish feeling to it – perfect for a town filled with cutthroats.

Bracket 1 – Fight 7
The Decisive Battle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZqazbULRRA) – the standard boss theme. A very quick tune, ideal for emitting hurry onto the player in the style of "If we don’t defeat it quick it’ll kill us for sure!". Just like most other boss themes, it’s a very memorable tune.
vs.
The Empire Gestahl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNKumgJ_UPY) is played when the party travels into Vector, the capital of the Empire, as well inside of Vector. It’s a very Saturnian and threatening theme, and perfectly portrays the dark power of the Emperor and the cruelty of his actions.
Bracket 2 – Fight 7
Epitaph (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hwnlkf7krY) is, if I recall correctly (though I can be horribly wrong as I don’t remember where it played exactly and FF Wiki has no info on it too D: ), played in the flashbacks of Setzer involving his lost love Daryl. It’s a very touching theme, very beautiful and, unlike most of the more melancholic themes in the game, not depressing, but with this more positive undertone.
vs.
Esper World (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iY4Lf3pYKPY), also called "Another World of Beasts", is played in the world of the Espers. This means the one flashback with Maduin, but also when the heroes enter the destroyed world. Mysterious and dark, this song fits perfectly into the game.

ROUND 1
Bracket 1 – Fight 8
Omen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDH4pLa7TI0), or more commonly known as "Opening", is the… well… theme of the opening cutscene. The narration of the world’s history, as well as Terra and her 2 guards walking through the snow of Narshe. It’s actually a medley of 3 individual themes, the first one being original, it then heads over to "Catastrophe" which hasn’t been up for voting, and closes with "Terra’s Theme", which already advanced into Round 2 by default. Since two of this song’s parts are themes that are going to show up eventually, I’ll leave my commentary out and just talk about the first part. It’s very eerie and cold… not much else to say since it’s only about a minute long and doesn’t have any other uses.
vs.
The Fanatics (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sc5YmkblgkA) is used in the Fanatics’ Tower in the World of Ruin. The Tower is a place where followers of the Cult of Kefka gather. These are purely magicians. The theme displays the insanity but also the temple-feeling very well. The eerie choir in the background and the heavy emphasis on drums and organs makes this song to one of those that send a cold shiver down your spine…
Bracket 2 – Fight 8
Coin of Fate (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jottceqkv1M), sometimes referred to as the "Coin Song", is the melancholic arrangement of Edgar & Sabin’s Theme. It is used in cutscenes of either of the brothers involving memories, mainly of their childhood. Just like the other variation of this song, Coin of Fate is a very powerful song and where the character theme has the strength, this theme has the pain the brothers suffered.
vs.
Mog’s Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rR37PtzE7uE) is the character theme for one of the 3 secret characters. Mog would show up in the very beginning of the game along his moogle friends and help Locke save Terra. Mog would later join the party if sought out in the Narshe mines. The theme is an arrangement of "Critter Tripper Fritter", the moogle theme of Final Fantasy V, and would be the first recycle of it. It’s a very light-hearted theme and fits to the character of Mog very well.

ROUND 1
Bracket 1 – Fight 9
Shadow’s Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kENEx5bwLow) is one of the many character themes in the game. It’s a very melancholic and lonely song utilizing whistling and a jaw harp. Considering the character it displays, it’s pretty accurate, although the slight Western feeling of it doesn’t really display Shadow’s class. But that’s just a little tidbit of myself, I guess. Yet another one of the many great tunes in this game.
vs.
Wedding Waltz – Duel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTokrnXI1Ro) is one of the scenes in the Opera, and actually has two parts. The first is a stereotypical ball waltz, a very cheerful and nice tune if you like that kind of music. The second part is the duel, where the hero and the villain of the opera’s story face each other and fight over Maria, the character Celes is playing. It’s a nice tune for the scene. Overall, I don’t think it’s one of the best songs in the soundtrack, but it’s not bad by all means.
Bracket 2 – Fight 9
Locke’s Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QazWtO7wZg) is yet another character theme. It’s a strong and heroic theme with a nice melody, fitting to the thi… treasure hunter Locke and his personality. It has something of this "dashing hero entrance theme". Not much else to say about it, I guess.
vs.
Mines of Narshe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpsgQvMnaL0) is used in the… well… Mines of Narshe, heh. It’s the absolute first in-game theme you hear after the opening. Therefore, it probably holds a lot of memories to many of us. The theme itself is dark and eerie, yet not enducing fear. I especially like the light jazzy undertone of it, and the use of the piano. One of my favourite songs in the game.
Locke’s theme

ROUND 1
Bracket 1 – Fight 10
The Magic House (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUp2aBnTICM) is one of the more interesting songs on the soundtrack. It is played in Owzer’s mansion, the place where Relm is held captive in the World of Ruin. However, this track is actually a rearrangement of one of Final Fantasy II’s dungeon themes. It is a very sneaky and mysterious theme, yet a little goofy. I like it a lot.
vs.
Awakening (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qCiZZVqhAQ) is an arranged version of Terra’s Theme, and played whenever she has a revelation or a flashback. Not much to say because it’s very similar to the original, just the intro is different and makes it a little happier than the actual theme of her.
Bracket 2 – Fight 10
Johnny C. Bad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nv6mT5-Amt4) … I’ll be honest, I forgot where this song is played. I suppose it’s somehow related to Setzer since it follows right after his theme on the OST. If someone has a pointer for me I’d be grateful. Anyway, Johnny C. Bad is obviously your standard fair casino/gambling theme, all with the jazzy groove and the piano.
vs.
Mt. Koltz (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4ik1D3PzOA), obviously played on the mountain of same name and, as far as I remember, other mountain areas. A very uplifting theme, and fitting to climbing a mountain.

ROUND 1
Bracket 1 – Fight 11
Searching for Friends (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGwrbXGq7Tc) is the Overworld theme for the World of Ruin. It replaces Terra’s Theme for this part of the game. I find this, despite the melancholic undertone, to be a very uplifting theme, very determined, somehow. I like the flute in this track very much.
vs.
Overture (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYSUJ7stN9k) is the first song in the Opera, and used to explain the story of the piece. It’s a very interesting medley, starting with an instrumental piece, following into the narration’s theme which is a harp piece. This is followed by the clash of the hero and the villain, and the hero’s solo, which is based off of Celes’ Theme. Then a military march, and the last piece is another narrator theme, which sounds a bit like music coming from the Baroque era. I like this medley quite a bit, especially the last 2 parts.
Bracket 2 – Fight 11
Rest in Peace (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fQa-AZHyBw) is a very short piece. Only 30 seconds. But this has a reason, as it is the game over theme, when all of your party has died.
vs.
Floating Continent (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KG4Ceyp2pns) or "New Continent" is played on, well, the Floating Continent, the last dungeon before the World of Ruin starts. This song is, in my opinion, very weird with its techno sounds mixed into it. I’m really indifferent about it, I kinda like it, but kinda don’t.

Stragus’ Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HU2s8a9Lh0) is played as Stragus’ character theme, but also in the town of Thamasa, where the magicians hail from and you meet him, as well as his granddaughter Relm. Being a rather weird and goofy theme, this is easily one of my favourites simply because it fits so perfectly well onto a gruffy old man skilled in magic who just wants to protect his grandchild.
vs.
Battle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBOs1VdW4og) is very easy to describe: it’s the battle theme. One of the, if not THE, most commonly heard songs in the game, Battle is one of the best normal battle themes in the series, suggesting tension very well.
Bracket 2 – Fight 12
Gau’s Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fR7musjvdTk) is the character theme for Gau, the boy raised in the wild. It’s a very nostalgic song, strongly melancholic. While it is a beautiful song, I never found this theme to be fitting to the character of Gau, even less so than Relm’s Theme. In fact, I find this to be the most unfitting song in the whole game.
vs.
The Returners (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDI7_AvfTOs) is played whenever being in a base or direct contact with the rebels named the Returners who are standing against the Imperial Army. It’s a very militaresque song, having the beat of a march, after all. It also displays the determination of the rebels to bring down Gestahl and his Empire.

The Airship Blackjack (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNix05L–wM) is played whenever using Setzer’s airship, the Blackjack. It’s a very laid back theme, nevertheless suiting good to flying with an airship. Not much else to say here.
vs.
Phantom Forest (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XszwVaEcAM) is the eponymous theme of the location. It’s a slow and eerie theme, fitting very well to the dark forest it display.
Bracket 2 – Fight 13
Grand Finale (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXDlmxV2Vw8) is the last theme that is played in the Opera’s performance. It is used when Ultros decided to hijack the show and a fierce battle ensues. A very upbeat and fast theme, maybe even a bit silly for a battle theme. Then again, it’s Ultros after all…
vs.
Dark World (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yI0Xuff-duQ) is used as overworld theme for the World of Ruin until the party finds the Falcon. It’s a very atmospheric theme, including gusts of wind as background noise. It perfectly fits to the World of Ruin and its status, and I like the use of the bell and organ in this theme extremely much.

Metamorphosis (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5TMnpb8ZSM) is used not very often in this game – when Terra first transforms into her Esper form for the first time in Zozo and escapes, and during Kefka’s attack on Thamasa. It’s a theme that expresses danger and reasons to worry and watch out. I like the use of the string instruments in this song.
vs.
Protect the Espers! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sITl-4ypVzk), also known as "Save Them!", is a another track that is very rarely used. As far as I remember its only use is when the Returners and the Imperial troops confront each other over the frozen Tritoch. A song that very well could be used as a "Hurry up!"-Theme, it gives the player pressure. Very nicely done.
Bracket 2 – Fight 14
Catastrophe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VML7823VPwg) is played, if I remember it correctly, when Kefka kills off Gestahl and claims the 3 God statues for himself. Though I’m not 100% sure. It’s also a part of the Opening Theme. A very menacing and dark theme.
vs.
Kefka’s Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-78iR-sXXQ) is played whenever the story focusses on Kefka during the happenings in the World of Balance. Just like his looks, this theme perfectly displays the clownish personality and madness. Easily one of the most memorable villain themes in the series due to its oddness.

Under Martial Law (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFXmAQC_zJU) is played during the happenings in the occupied South Figaro. Just like the scenario itself, the music suggests sneakiness and the constant danger of being spotted by the Imperial forces. One of my favourites.
vs.
The Unforgiven (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8cO7hSls_k) is used during the Siege of Doma, the castle being attacked by Imperial forces. It’s a very hectic theme, displaying the importance of the issue very well.
Note: This is the last battle of this round, as there were an odd-numbered amount of songs participating in this rumble. After this round, it will be even with the same amount of battles in each bracket.
I like both, but this one suits my current mood somewhat.

The winner spot goes to Terra’s Theme, the still good second place is taken by Cyan’s Theme.

So… what’s next?
Scenes/moments would be neat!
A thought: Are there actually enough sidequests in FFVI to make a rumble about it?
Sorta like why P. Head isn’t going to be in the enemy edition of the SH Rumble ๐
Same goes for sidequests, though I don’t remember any outside of those in the WoR when you gather your party members.
With scenes, on the other hand, there’d be plenty. I’m sure we can collectively think up enough to make it worthwhile. Like the opera, Terra turning into a pink banshee, Kefka poisoning the water at Doma, Cyan watching the train pull away, Kefka pushing the three statues out of order, the world blowing up, Gau making fun of Cyan, the dinner with the emperor where you have to talk to x number of soldiers, the house on fire in Thamasa, walking through the Magitek factory in the room with all the espers in tubes, playing through Maduin’s scenario in the past, walking down the stairs in Daryl’s tomb as Setzer remembers his girlfriend, Ultros arguing with Relm, Kefka opening the door to the esper world, Locke freeing Celes from her chains in South Figaro…
Locke’s past flashback / using Phoenix on Rachel,
Escape from Vector,
Figaro Castle disappears in the sand, leaving Kefka angry,
Celes jumping off the cliff,
1st meeting with Ultros,
"Coin Toss",
But I guess the main agreement seems to be scenes? Uh, yea, so… Does maybe arthurgolden want to take over this? I have to admit, I haven’t played FFVI in a loooooong time, and I’m not familiar with the scenes anymore like at all except if I re-read what happens. I would be willing to give him a hand in creating a "tournament" tree if he wants to do it like me, and hand him the leadership over the scenes rumble.
Unless of course you guys definitely want me to go for it.
