Can anyone tell me what I’m doing wrong below? And is there a better solution?
I summoned Cerberus to use double and triple casting. I casted shell and haste on all three characters (by the way I am using Squall, Quistis, and Zell). Afterwards I drew regen and casted it on Rinoa. I don’t have any good magic spells such as Flare…I only have 11 Flare stones. I’ve been triple casting spells like blizzaga, firaga, etc.
Now, I’m ready to be laughed at and being called a noob, but my characters hit a high of 100-300. I tried to level up my characters, but they only reached in the high 20’s and 30’s. And I can’t leave and board the ship because Squall keeps saying that he doesn’t want to leave Rinoa behind.
After all of that being said, I think I’m screwed but I’ve heard of people finishing the game without Junctioning and leveling.
Thanks. O.o
Finishing the game without leveling is much easier.
The key to FFVIII is to get really good magic. When you get the good magic (i.e Ultima, Flare, Pain, Aura, Triple, Meteor, Full-life, Reflect, Tornado and others) then you can boost your stats nice and high.
From where you are in the game, you are basically screwed without good magic. I don’t know of any shops located inside of the Lunatic Pandora. So, you’re basically stuck…unless if you can draw some good magic from random encounters (or card mod some cards).
Whatever you do at this point, don’t continue to level your characters. When you level, your enemy levels with you. However, your characters don’t get that much of a stat boost when you level. So, unless your characters are becoming more powerful than your enemies, I would recommend you to stay at a lower level. Focus on getting better magic.
It’s been a while since I’ve played the game myself so I don’t know what Adel can do anymore. I know you’ve made the right call by casting Regen on Rinoa, but other than that I don’t really know what else to say… If you have Doomtrain, use him then just keep blasting Adel with Renzokuken. Hopefully, you already have the Lionheart gunblade because that will help out a lot.
I love the Yak-Meister.
transfer all your magic to your strongest player and hack away, save a few cure spells for the other 2 cats. and if u can draw 99 of any and every magic you can find. If i recall u can automatically junction ur spells for power, defence…
Seriously you can 2-shot bosses at like… low levels.
I haven’t deleted the file just in case. I did start the game over, however. I carefully read what Quistis taught me about the Junction system, and I’m beginning to understand it. The only question I have is what makes your strength stats super high. Especially in the beginning of the game.
Jeff:
I don’t think I have Lionheart, but I can double check. I think Squall has over 30 some curagas, so I’ll see what I can do about that.
——————–
I was so desperate that I actually risked the chance of using my GF. I casted regen on Rinoa and let my two characters heal her while I summoned my strongest GF (Shiva). Well, one of my characters died and one ran out of curagas. -.- Game Over…dumb risk.
Watch for Meltdown — this is one to generally keep available to use rather than to have Junctioned. Pretty much knocks out the enemy’s defense — awesome stuff.
Here are some of the more important stats.
Vit = Physical Defense
Spr = Magical Defense
Mag = Magical Attack/Drawing Potential
Str = Physical Attack
HP = Health
A lot of very useful junctioning magic can be acquired from Card Playing.
Card playing is relatively easy, especially in Balamb Garden (which has very beginner-friendly rules).
Play the Card Queen, if she plays you with the "ALL" trading rule, do not revert to saved. Instead, play cards with someone at Balamb Garden and decline their offer (after the music starts) until the rules mention "ALL" in the trade rule. This way, you can amass lots of cards.
So here we go: (A list of useful magic that I acquired by the Desert Prison)
Vit
Meltdown is the best for this. It can be acquired by refining Gayla cards
Spr
Reflect works well with this…however, I couldn’t get reflect until Disc 2 (Desert Prison). I don’t know of any feasible series of card-modding that would get you Reflect in Disc 1. Curaga works as a good substitute in the period before that mission though.
Mag
For me, Quake or Tornado works well (Depending on whether or not you favor strength over magic attack potential).
Quake can be acquired by refining T-Rexaur Cards (or by actually fighting T-Rexaurs in the Training Center).
Tornado can be refined from a Windmill which can be card modded from the Abyss Worm Card (very abundant). 20 per card is definitely worth the time.
Note: Mag is very important if you want to draw higher-level magic later on. Every wondered why "Draw Failed?" or "Drew 1 of BlaH!"? You’re magic isn’t high enough.
If you’re using those two magic for other things (like HP) then Death is a nice alternative. I think Death is refined from Sharp Spikes which can be card modded from several cards.
Str
As I said before, Quake or Tornado. Depends on preference.
HP
The easy way out for HP is to get Curaga by buying 10 tents and using L Mag-RF to refine them into Curagas. (1 tent =10 Curaga). It is a very quick and it works well. However, as the game progresses, I would invest some time into getting some Mesmerize Cards. They will card mod into Mesmerize Blades. Each Mesmerize Blade will L Mag-RF into 10 Regen each.
Ironically, Tornado will give your char a higher HP. If you want, you can replace the magic/strength stat with something of your choice in order to get this "higher" HP boost.
Topic closed?
GF’s. About every single battle I’ve used them. It’s because I thought my characters were always too weak.
oh yeah I forgot she was on the Lunatic Pandora. I hope you have a recent alternative save file. Like I said before theres nothing else you can do all towns are blocked off and you cant escape. And disk 4 is only Ultimecia’s castle. This game like FFX traps you into beating the game.
Sadly, I didn’t. I never thought I was going to be trapped in a certain area. -.-
Sadly, I didn’t. I never thought I was going to be trapped in a certain area. -.-
lol I got trapped in the same place with the same team. Except my team had Squall level 87 and Zell and Quistis in their 60s
Sadly, I didn’t. I never thought I was going to be trapped in a certain area. -.-
I’m quite the opposite. Never used any GFs after Ifrit battle ^_^
I’m playing this for the second time thru, but it’s been 8 years since the first time. Let’s say I’d use a GF which does 7000 damage on average basis.
In comparison, I’ll use Mug with Squall, doing 9999, at much faster rate, too.
Lion Heart and AP ammo does the best job, however. 26 * 9999 = 27074 for Squall, so uing an offensive GF is a no-no. AP ammo gets 7 shots at best, so it’s only about 70k dmg. (geez, using that ”k” and ”dmg” reminds me of Diablo 2 too much…).
I used this (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/file/197343/35594) one to distribute GFs
Rinoa absorbs every kind of elemental damage, and is immune/half-immune to all status ailments, so she’s my healer.
She has these junctioned:
HP-J: Tornado (Replacing with Full-Life as soon as I get more Giant’s Rings)
Str: Flare
Vit: Meltdown
Mag: Quake
Spr: Curaga
Ele-Atk: None
Ele-Def-1: Ultima
Ele-Def-2: Shell
Ele-Def-3: Protect
Ele-Def-4: Life
ST-Atk: Sleep
ST-Def-1: Pain
ST-Def-2: Esuna
ST-Def-3: Reflect
ST-Def-4: Death
That was what I meant.
Also, it was a tip on the new game, what to junction etc.
like hookers on ice
Off-Topic = Not Appropriate
@ Swift: I didn’t know that you were talking about a new game, sorry.
It would be nice to include the items/cards you’d have to mod in order to get all that stuff though.
Now 3 chars have Spd-J and Hit-J.
I think it’ll be faster to just post screenshots rather than type it all out, so here it goes:
How to get:
Ultima can be tricky, because of the scarcity. I abused the Shumi Village draw point to get 100, and then refined 100 Ultima Stones dropped by Ultima Weapon. One could also draw Ultima from him/it, but it *can* be risky.
Meteor is easy. Refine from Star Fragments. They can be mugged from Iron Giants, which are best found at Deep Sea Facility. One fragment turns into 5 meteors.
Flare can be refined from Flare Stones, found randomly (can’t remember), or just draw from Bahamut. Other monsters exist, I just don’t remember.
Full-Life can be refined from Healing Rings, mugged from
Regen can be refined from Mesmerize Blades, easy to kill.
Triple is a bitch. Refining Doubles with High Mag-R gives crappy results, 10:1.
Good news, Dragon Fins refine into 20 doubles, and those refine into Triples.
Long and somewhat painful process… Quistis card turns into 3 Samantha Souls, which refine into 60 Triples each. Mug Dragon Fins at the Deep Sea Facility.
Pain is refined from Curse Spikes, with a 1:10 ratio. (10 Pains per spike).
Draw from (Ochus?) found at the Island Closest To Heaven. Remember that you want 100 urse Spikes in order to get a Dark Matter, and therefore, a Shaman stone, and refine it into a Rosetta Stone.
Meltdown is very easy to get, just mod Gayla cards into Mystery Fluids. 1 Mystery Fluid refines into 10 Meltdowns.
The rest are everywhere, I’m sure you’ve bumped into them.
Just ask if you don’t know.
Oh, and if you got Meltdowns, use them, and then whack with physicals. Remove any elemental attack junctions, we want brute strength!
edit : ohh well you already tried that LOL try searching for a save on gamefaqs if you want an easy way out and dont wanna play the game from scrath
give it to your strongest character and it can add some serious damage to your attacks, just make sure you have a store of decent curative magic
the first time I played I had the same problem with that ADEL.
(IF you want to know her HP,use recover or elixer on her before you attack)
scan doesnt work on her.
(my characters were shooting 50-75 dmg. at a time on the final boss, sad huh?!
I haven’t deleted the file just in case. I did start the game over, however. I carefully read what Quistis taught me about the Junction system, and I’m beginning to understand it. The only question I have is what makes your strength stats super high. Especially in the beginning of the game.
100 tornado’s+str60+40 gives you the strongest str.
1.dont use gf attacks
2. make shure al chars have 9999 hp by juction(+hp from gf) not by lv
3. use meltdown at vitality (if I’m right) and somthing at spirit (i cant remember for shure meteor or something …) the ideea is to have 255 vit and 255 spr
4. dont use area damage spells
5.all chars or at least 1 with haste
6.regen on Rinoa and keep watching her health with scan so u can heal her
when is needed
finaly with 2 chars attack 1 heal u should kill her with normal attacks
is easy (and put meltdown on adel , 😀 that spell is the best )
u can get ap for you’r gf abilities on cactuar island (must be hasted)
Junctioning is VERY helpful, and you would be wise to figure it out.
It’s helped me breeze through everything in the game so far.
I just kept casting aura on zell and limit breaked her to death!

See how that arrangement works. You should have:
HP-J
Str-J
Vit-J
Mag-J
Spr-J
for all Characters.
And Spd-J for Zell and Squall.
Do you have any Abyss Worm Cards?
Ok, arrange your GF’s in this order.
Do you have any Abyss Worm Cards?
Yes
Find any T-Rexaur cards and you can refine 1 into 2 Dinobones (forgot the real names, but it goes something like that). Refine each Bone into Quakes.
Tonberry Cards turn into chefs knives, which refine into deaths, which is good for magic stat.
Gayla Cards refine into mystery fluids which can be refined into Meltdowns (10 for each). Meltdown is good with Vit.
Also, since you have two chars with Spd-J, I’d see if you can fool around with Diablos’s Time-Mag-RF to get some more Hastes.
Try to consolidate your magic to attempt to get sets of 100. Magic works better like that. Better to have one really strong character, than to have 3 weak, under-equipped ones.
If you have 100, junction it to someone’s strength, and see how much physical damage you can do. Cast meltdown on Everyone if you want, just heal Rinoa afterwards.
