You all know the general rules by now I hope, make sure to bold your votes, rounds will take between 2-4 days maximum, and the rest will depend on whatever the topic will be! But once again, I will start by letting you guys vote on the topic, from my list of ideas. There aren’t that many ideas with FFX, but I’ve included a few non-basic ones, some of which I’d have no choice but to ask for nominations.
-Bosses
-Monsters
-Monster SPECIES (like for X-2, I said there are so many of them already since it would make more sense than to have, say Behemoth and Behemoth King both in it, like each item will be a species like Behemoths, Lizards, Insects, Elementals, etc.)
-Arena Creations. I consider them to be on a very different level than bosses, and a completely different class.
-Music. FFX has a pretty awesome soundtrack. Of course I’d let you nominate.
-Skills. As in, abilities from the sphere grid. Probably not all of them though, would be a little awkward to include Fire, Fira, and Firaga. Maybe I’d let you nominate if I do that.
-Weapon/Armor TRAITS. Like, "Poisonstrike", "SOS Overdrive", etc.
-Characters (Including PCs, there are only 7)
-Locations
-Overdrive Modes… would that work?
Here are a few other ideas that might seem like a stretch, I might not want to do them just yet, but if you guys insist:
-Items. I’d be forced to let you guys nominate, though. It’s just cause FFX has a lot of weird items that appear under the same menu as potions and Phoenix Down’s, everything from in battle items, to spheres for the grid, to mix items, and maybe throw in a few key items.
-Blitzball players. Not necessarily based on how good they are in Blitzball, but also their personality as an NPC depending on what they say. Of course this would take a hell of a time cause I’d have to look up who exactly they are and what they say, but of course I’d tell you. It might take too long and be out of the question though, since most of you probably don’t know them all by heart enough to nominate them I might just use all of them and look up details on each one.
-Overdrive skills. I don’t know if I’d include them all, probably just randomly select them myself or have you guys make nominations. This would consist of some of Kimahri’s Blue Magic skills, some of Rikku’s 50something Mix results, some of the four overdrives that Tidus, Wakka, and Auron each have, some random Black Magic skills with "Fury" at the end (Death Fury, Demi Fury…) and Grand Summon would be independant (It wouldn’t be like Fury like "Grand Summon Shiva", "Grand Summon Ifrit", cause that would be weird. Just Grand Summon, but multiple Furies). Yeah, I probably would not use every single one because there would be an extreme edge on Rikku. Gonna let you guys nominate if this happens.
-Weapons/Armor… well, they’re kind of weird in this game, every character has the same amount of weapons and armor (Tidus’s Brotherhood is an extra exception) based on the possible customizeable traits is what determines their name. It might not work… they’re all the same, with different random creative names. If I ever do anything with weapons or armor, I’d have to do something special like restrict it to ones you pick up certain places, but that might be unfair. Or maybe just give you a whole list of all 500some of them (you’d be surprised at how many unheard of weird ones you’ll see) and have you simply nominate based on names or ones you already know, hell unless you’ve studied a FAQ or have the guide and look at it a lot there are probably gonna be a lot of weird sounding names that you never heard of. And when the battles happen, of course I’d give details one what they actually are. I prefer the latter option of the two, but I’d kinda rather stay away from this topic altogether.
-If you guys think of something, feel free to suggest!
I’d prefer one of the above to start… preferrably not Bosses since that’s what I’m doing in X-2 right now, but hopefully later… and either way I’ll let you guys decide.
But I’m down with whatever is chosen.
I’m just glad to see a FFX rumble without all the crap that the other one had ๐
Good work Zak ๐
Weapon/Armor TRAITS — yeah, that could be cool. I’ll vote for that.
I don’t want to see music right now, only because it seems to be cropping up in so many others right now.
Overdrive Modes or Music for me.
And I’m also interested in Skills
Characters – 1
Music – 3
Weapon/Armor Traits – 3
Overdrive Modes – 2
Blitzers – 1
Skills – 1
It’ll be WA traits or Music… I’ll let the next person decide.
Found three different Rumble threads, and… well, for FFX, music actually was the first thing done in the oldest rumble I could find back in 2004 and that’s it. There was one even older that lasted two pages, but I wouldn’t count it. But I think this one used less tracks than I plan to use. But at least this’ll take shorter. Or about the same if I use 64 songs and wait a couple days between each battle.
Hope no one minds, but I think that’s what I’m doing. I’ll do WA traits next, this’ll be at least easier to start and warm up with. The only other rumble doing music right now is VII… but you guys make nominations.
The soundtrack has 91 songs, I think I’ll use 64 of them. Or 32, depending on how many get nominated, but I’d prefer 64. But don’t worry, the rounds will be as short as my X-2 ones. You may nominate AS MANY as you want.
A couple notes though:
-I’m only gonna be using three Hymn of the Fayth tracks MAXIMUM if any at all. This includes "Warping to a Different Dimension".
-Refer to the tracks by their OST names and not their Music Sphere names. Like for instance "Hopeless Desire" is a song on the OST which in the Music Sphere is called "Out of the Frying Pan", and there are others like that… but I’d prefer calling it "Hopeless Desire" and same with other such tracks, use the OST name.
I’ll also be making my own nominations.
For reference, here’s a list of tracks.. hope there’s no rule against linking here:
Yuna’s Theme

Is the sending "Warping to a Different Dimension"?
I’d also like to add Ending Theme, I Can Fly and The Summoning.
Seymour Battle
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_X_albums#Albums — this here has good title references. That http://bluelaguna.net/music/ffx/mp3s.php is using some of the alternate spellings you often see, such as "Joze Temple" and "Makalayna Forest."
"Path of Repentance" it’s called.
Ah, Inflexible Determination I would have never guessed considering the million places it’s played.
BTW Agent, just making sure, you know "Macalania Forest" isn’t actually played in most of the forest for some reason? (Just saying in case you meant a different track)
BTW I forgot to mention, "The Sending" you’re thinking of in Kilika is called "Warping to a Different Dimension".
EDIT: I guess Main Theme can’t be Tidus’ Theme since you mentioned it in that same post… so what is it?
Okay, so far we have:
To Zanarkand

That’s 52 so far… need 12 more.
I’ll randomly choose them myself if they aren’t nominated in the next 2 days.
I can’t think of any I would nominate that haven’t already been said except "Please Remember."
I can’t think of any I would nominate that haven’t already been said except "Please Remember."
The Credits plays the orchestrated version of Suteki Da Ne. Check on Youtube…
And alright, I’ll add "Please Remember"… isn’t that a quote though? I mean, nothing wrong with that, so is "I Want to Tell You Everything", just making sure.
And alright, I’ll add "Please Remember"… isn’t that a quote though? I mean, nothing wrong with that, so is "I Want to Tell You Everything", just making sure.
Sorry, scrap that one too, if you want. I thought it was something it wasn’t.
I can come up with twelve more if we want to get things moving. Or rather, 13 more, since "Main Theme" is now out.

12 more. I didn’t count "Main Theme". But sure, why not, go for it. I doubt those that haven’t gotten a chance wouldn’t care since we probably said what most would have said.
EDIT: I think I’ll add "Song of Prayer" for the sake of having at least one Hymn track and have it represent the hymn besides "Warping to a Different Dimension" since that one has unique parts. But try avoiding the aeon ones. Maybe include the "Spira" one, but that’s it. So, 11 or 10 more.
Maybe I will include "Please Remember" or "I Would Like to Say Everything" just as a gag, or even "Fog Sea". But I won’t count any of them yet. I’d rather leave it up to someone other than myself for now.
The Al Bhed Tribe’s Chi
Fantasy
Start / Launch (Theme of the Airship)
Victory Fanfare
Daughter of a Great Summoner
Luca
The Deceased Laugh
There’s seven. Let’s see what we can do from there…
Oh BTW…
The only other rumble doing music right now is VII… but you guys make nominations.
Not so, I’m doing it in my V Rumble and I’m also doing musical character themes in the Gen FF Rumble.
I’ve made up my mind on what the other four will be. So… nomination’s are closed.
First battle will start shortly.
Not so, I’m doing it in my V Rumble and I’m also doing musical character themes in the Gen FF Rumble.
Ah, no wonder, my bad… that’s the only FF forum I don’t frequent since I have yet to play the ones before VI. Should pick them up though.
So.
Round 1 – Battle 1
Welcome Elder Sage Mika – Listen Here (http://lamda.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/33%20-%20Welcome%20Elder%20Sage%20Mica.mp3)
A short parade-style theme, played during the annual ceremony in Luca when you first enter and Lord Mika and Lord Seymour make their grand entrance.
VS.
Seymour’s Ambition – Listen Here (http://omikron.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/55%20-%20Seymour‘s%20Ambition.mp3)
One of a few variations of Seymour’s Theme. A remix with a bit of a faster beat, with a bit of the idea that Seymour’s cooking up something… and for those curious, it’s played during the first battle with him in Macalania Temple, and during the scene where he threatens you on Mt. Gagazet (not that battle though) and actually speaks of his "Ambition".
This is an easy one for me, I’m gonna choose Seymour’s Ambition because I always enjoy listening to it and I actually prefer it to Seymour’s Theme.
I was gonna wait longer with these (if I can manage to hold out), but I might not need to considering the activity in the FFX forum compared to in X-2.
Also its great that you have got it so we can listen. Thanks.
Seymour’s Ambition 10-1 Welcome Elderly Sage Mika
Looks like Seymour’s the superior Maester when it comes to music. Seymour’s the superior Maester in general in my book, compared to Mika at least.
Round 1 – Battle 2
Silence Before the Storm – Listen Here (http://lamda.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/30%20-%20Silence%20Before%20the%20Storm.mp3)
A remarkably beautiful piece. Played in Kilika and Macalania Forests, Gagazet Cave, and Yojimbo’s Cave. I guess the cave/forest music of X.
VS.
To the End of the Abyss – Listen Here (http://omikron.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/81%20-%20To%20the%20End%20of%20the%20Abyss.mp3)
Also an amazing piece. While played in the Omega Ruins, it’s also the alternative Airship theme for certain points in the game, it and "Start" switch off a lot. This one’s certainly better…
…But for the battle itself, I’d have to go with Silence Before the Storm. I could listen to that loop so many times, getting Kimahri’s Sigil in the butterfly game never got boring thanks to this track. Honestly though against almost ANY other track, the Abyss would have gotten my vote, but… oh well, I’d rather lose that one early than Silence Before the Storm.
I have a prediction on how this one will turn out, but lets see.
A beautiful piece of music, and one of my favorites throughout all the FF series.
Ah well, my pretiction was almost spot on, I figured it would be a 2-1 ratio. Silence Before the Storm takes it, though it’s a shame for the Abyss to be out so early. Fair competition, though.
Round 1 – Battle 3
Hurry – Listen Here (http://omikron.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/06%20-%20Hurry!!.mp3)
FFX’s default chase music. Pretty interesting compared to the "Hurry"/"Run" tracks in the other games. Played in places such as escaping from Zanarkand in the beginning, the blowing up of Home, and the Bevelle Highbridge chases. Also in the int’l version during the Dark Ifrit and Dark Yojimbo chases.
VS.
Hopeless Desire – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/12%20-%20Hopeless%20Desire.mp3)
A beautiful suspenseful track, Uematsu might have been thinking "Greensleeves". I prefer this any day to Greensleeves, though. It’s appearance in the game consists of scenes like when Tidus wakes up in the underwater ruins, when he’s all alone on the ship at night after fighting Tros, and, best use of it ever IMO, in Macalania Temple after Yuna drops the sphere and runs away and everyone in the temple is in sort of a "what the heck" state.
Also labeled somewhere as "Out of the Frying Pan".
As for me, I’ll be damned if Hopeless Desire doesn’t win right now.
To be honest, I find Hopeless Desire damn boring on the whole, and you said it yourself, Zak — Hurry! is pretty interesting compared to some of those other themes. And I also think of what the piece puts me in mind of — and well, Hurry! puts me straight at those exciting scenes you described, whereas Hopeless Desire just sends me back to that annoying temple.
Easy one.
Hurry!
Hurry! 8-3 Hopeless Desire
I guess yesterday I could already tell that "Hopeless Desire" pretty much described how I wanted this round to turn out. :p
Funny how true that is. I guess there is something to these chase tracks. But damn, I was hoping this one would make it further. I guess it really is living up to it’s title.
Round 1 – Battle 4
Underground Activities – Listen Here (http://lamda.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/13%20-%20Underground%20Activities.mp3)
Also a suspenseful track played in situations when things are up to no good. Named for the scene when the Al Bhed attack you, and also in Luca when they kidnap Yuna and on the airship when it’s infested with fiends. The Chocobo Eater also merits this for some reason as does Dark Ixion.
VS.
Yuna’s Determination – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/71%20-%20Yuna‘s%20Determination.mp3)
A more relaxing track, the theme of the Calm Lands. As for why they didn’t just call it "Calm Lands" is because it’s also played in that long sphere Yuna records and ends up throwing away later. But that’s it, and you don’t get to see it until after trekking through the Calm Lands anyway. A rather sweet and relaxing track, though, fitting both scenarios perfectly.
I’m going to go with Underground Activities though because I get more of a rise out of the suspenseful tracks, as beautiful as Yuna’s Determination may be.
I liked them both. But I’m more a fan of the more exiting tracks. So that’s why I chose my vote.
Really close battle, but despite my vote this time I kinda expected it to win. In fact I’m surprised Underground Activities got as many votes as it did, but it’s clearly no match for the Calm Lands.
Next up – the battle of the Seymours! …sort of.
Round 1 – Battle 5
My Father’s Murderer – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/69%20-%20My%20Father‘s%20Murderer.mp3)
Another remix of Seymour’s Theme, suspenseful and monophonic. Only used once during the scene after the trial in Bevelle where Seymour plots with Kinoc and Mika about what he’s gonna do with Yuna.
VS.
Seymour’s Theme – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/43%20-%20Seymour‘s%20Theme.mp3)
And here we have the original Seymour’s Theme. Lucky to be facing one of it’s few clones. Seems unfair, ne? Heh, I didn’t decide on this, the randomizer did. Oh well, great track… Ambition made it a step ahead, only one of these will join it.
This lovely little track is first played when Seymour comes to support Operation Mi’hen, and later in his manor, in the Macalania cloister the first time, and finally when he kills Kinoc… OOPS SPOILER ALERT!
I’m gonna go with My Father’s Murderer, it’s more interesting and unique and I wish they played it more. Plus, like I said, Seymour’s Ambition made it ahead one and I prefer it to Seymour’s Theme anyway.
Seymour’s Ambition is too similar to Seymour’s Theme to go through.
I think Slavka meant that Seymour’s Ambition came through already, and it’s too similar to have Seymour’s Theme continue as well.
Dangerously close battle, but it looks like Seymour’s Theme isn’t making it. No worries though, there are at least three other similar Seymour tracks that still have a chance to hold it up there, this Jyscal track being one of them.
Now we have two more connected tracks, sort of.
Round 1 – Battle 6
Scorching Desert – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/58%20-%20Scorching%20Desert.mp3)
For a desert theme, this is a pretty calm relaxing theme, especially that beautiful piano bit at the end. This is the overall theme of Bikanel Desert, which IMO ended up being more of a fun place than in seemed at first sight, what with all its secrets and places to level up and all.
VS.
Rikku’s Theme – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/48%20-%20Rikku‘s%20Theme.mp3)
Rikku’s from the desert… anyway, for a character theme, let alone one as nice as this one, it sure went to waste in the game. This happy little theme was only during the scene where she rejoins at the Moonflow. It could have fit well a lot of other places for sure.
I need to think about this.
But… Scorching Desert I feel is also good and should get more support, I almost keep forgetting about it myself. At least Rikku’s Theme has all the popular remixes and piano arrangements, Scorching never left the OST.
Scorching Desert was nice, but I was stuck there for ages trying to get Kimahri off that dune, so it started to get annoying.
Anyway…
Rikku’s Theme 9-5 Scorching Desert
Yep, everyone loves the character themes… I predict this one specifically will make it far. So long, Bikanel!
Round 1 – Battle 7
Wandering Flame – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/77%20-%20Wandering%20Flame.mp3)
A very relaxing track… it manages to stay on same notes for a while and still be bearable and likable especially when it gets to the clarinets. It’s played in most of the Tidus narration scenes, mostly for important events. My best interpretation of the title is he’s telling the story around the campfire in Zanarkand and since it’s an adventure they’re like a "wandering flame". It’s also permanently the track for the Farplane area in Guadosalaam, whenever you choose to visit it.
VS.
Jecht’s Theme – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/51%20-%20Jekut‘s%20Theme.mp3)
Uematsu going for some hardcore blues here… um… yeah. Another character theme, for probably one of the game’s most interesting characters, for someone who’s a semi villain it’s quite a jump from all the Seymour themes. Played in most of the Jecht Spheres, and that’s about it.
Jecht’s Theme for me easily.
Jecht’s Theme
It’s so relaxing
I loved this track, the way it would begin in the Jecht spheres was great.
I loved this track, the way it would begin in the Jecht spheres was great.
In my rumbles, tie breaks will happen the old fashioned way… think of someone I know is active that hasn’t posted yet and let them decide. Hard to find after eliminating 18 people, but looks like it’ll be up to… Ceidwad! He’s the only name I can think of that hasn’t posted in this round yet.
I’ve listened to both and like both a lot, but Wandering Flame nicks it – it’s a truly iconic theme that really fits in with the scenes in which it plays, notably in the aftermath of the failed Mushroom Rock effort.
After an surprisingly close uphill battle, Jecht gets burnt alive in the "Wandering Flame" Hah… what.
So……… yeah. Nice fight.
Next up, it appears we have two more "similar" tracks. Seriously, whoever programmed this randomizer must have been a fan of Uematsu and rigged it to recognize names of FF tracks and put similar ones next to each other.
Hah… anyway here goes.
Round 1 – Battle 8
To Zanarkand – Listen Here (http://omikron.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/02%20-%20To%20Zanarkand.mp3)
Many consider this to be the track FFX is best known for, and it also happens to be a pretty popular track… can’t blame them, I’m a huge piano person as well. But if there’s any X track that’s overplayed and overmixed and has most of the fanbase revolving around it, this is the one.
For those non-followers, this is NOT the music played IN Zanarkand, but the one played on the opening credits leading to the menu and the opening movie, and during the campfire scene when you actually get to Zanarkand. And… at the end of Home as well for some reason right before entering the summoner’s sanctum.
VS.
Revealed Truth – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/60%20-%20Revealed%20Truth.mp3)
Yes, part of it is a string dramatic version of the second half of "To Zanarkand", if you give it a few seconds. No better title could fit this track considering where it’s used. Home – "WHAT?! Yuna’s gonna die?!", Confronting Yunalesca (’nuff said), the scene in Yunalesca’s room with Auron/Jecht/Braska, and the scene with Jecht after you beat him.
I’m gonna go with To Zanarkand, because having it lose in the first round is just wrong, at least to this.
Its a brilliant piece of music.
Its funny, in part of Tidus’ speech about Yuna, he says something like " I told her we would go to zanarkand"
ironic no?
๐
Really close battle, but, as usual, the more classic piece tends to win. Honestly though, before I counted just now I was sure Revealed Truth was the winner and had a speech prepared for that. Anyway, let’s see how far this one goes…
Round 1 – Battle 9
Fantasy – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/21%20-%20Fantasy.mp3)
This twinkly little theme was originally from the Besaid dream on the dock, but it was also used as the theme for the Macalania Lake area.
VS.
Warping to a Different Dimension – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/29%20-%20Warping%20to%20a%20Different%20Dimension.mp3)
At first you’d probably ask yourself why they didn’t just title this like one of the "Songs of Prayer", but if you listen about 10 seconds in, you’d see why, as this is more of a symphonized version of the hymn, along with that drum beat and all. And because it’s specifically for the FMV of Yuna’s sending in Kilika and nothing else.
Not a fan of all these hymns myself, but I gotta go with Warping to a Different Dimension. Thinking about it as a one-time FMV rather than one of the many hymn tracks kinda helps. And it’s not like you have an overabundance of them, the only other one I included in this rumble was the original "Song of Prayer". Plus it’s a bit better than Fantasy IMO.
The FMV that went with this was really good.
Ah well… it’s good to know the Fantasy was popular enough to get that many votes, for some reason I didn’t expect it to be! But the Hymn is too key-game to go… even though there’s the other one.
Round 1 – Battle 10
Sight of Spira – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/19%20-%20The%20Sight%20of%20Spira.mp3)
Cheery little village theme. I don’t know if it’s the game’s stereo’s fault or my ears, but until listening to it on that link, I never noticed the guitar version of the Zanarkand theme in the background, whenever I played the game in a place that played this, even after spending a long time there, I never noticed it. It’s possible the stereo plays it really faint, or perhaps the game doesn’t loop it all the way, anyone else have this problem? It’s played in Besaid Village, Kilika, and for some reason the Thunder Plains Agency (instead of the usual Agency theme).
VS.
Those Who Come Closer – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/57%20-%20Those%20Who%20Come%20Closer.mp3)
So next to a cheerful theme we have an intense upbeat chase theme. One of the more interesting chase tracks Square has given to us in a while. In terms of chases, though, it’s only played when you’re running away from Macalania Temple while the Guado chase you, either after the story event there or when you try to go back when you’re a traitor. Besides there it’s also played in the "Sea of Sorrow" part of inside Sin, and in the international version when you encounter those jerks in Besaid who summon Dark Valefor.
I definitely pick Those Who Come Closer, without a doubt. Besides the fact that I prefer upbeat themes, it may not be as musical, but I could listen to it for hours leveling up inside Sin and never get sick of up where the other one gets annoying fast. Also, I’ll be pretty disappointed if after Hurry won (against Hopeless Desire nonetheless) this doesn’t.
but until listening to it on that link, I never noticed the guitar version of the Zanarkand theme in the background, whenever I played the game in a place that played this, even after spending a long time there, I never noticed it. Can’t say I really get what you’re on about. I mean, I hear the guitar, but I’m not hearing Zanarkand anything — only a so-so version of "Suteki da Ne."
I’m talking about "Someday the Dream Will End". You don’t hear it?
EDIT: Yeah, I guess that is the same tune as Suteki Da Ne.
EDIT: Yeah, I guess that is the same tune as Suteki Da Ne.
Oh, well, in that case, yes — as far as "Suteki Da Ne" variations go, the tune is somewhat similar to "Someday the Dream Will End." Of course, there are other "Suteki Da Ne" variations too — much as with "Eyes on Me" in VIII and "Melodies of Life" in IX.
Wow, dangerously close battle there. Not just the score, but they actually took turns being ahead a few times. But anyway, naturally guitar music would win, I was actually surprised TWCC got as far as it did even though I like it better.
Moving on!
Round 1 – Battle 11
Otherworld – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/05%20-%20Otherworld.mp3)
Another greatly commercialized track in this game. Refer to the description of this forum, "Uematsu taking a shot at the whole Rob Zombie thing". This rather…. unusual track was used as the final battle music for the final actual losable battle, with Jecht/Braska’s Final Aeon. It’s also at the very beginning in the prologue FMV of the game, before the whole storm thing starts. The Black Mages also did a version of this with a woman singing, which sounded rather interesting.
VS.
Crisis – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/59%20-%20Crisis.mp3)
It may sound for the first few seconds like just a drum beat with a little whistling here and there, but it gets a little more suspenseful as it builds. It’s played in Home, usually except there they have a guy shouting something in the background, something I’ve always wondered what it was, sounds like "an annoying chat" or some secret Al Bhed message… ne? haha. It’s also played in other places like the first part of the Sinspawn Gui Battle, the encounter with the Al Bhed at Macalania Lake with the big tank thing, and that really long FMV where they blast into Sin with the airship. Also the international version uses it in the scene on Mushroom Rock Road where you encounter the Dark Magus Sisters.
I’m gonna go with Crisis since I like it and it’ll probably lose. Hard choice though.
I’m going to go with Crisis
And I think the Al Bed is screaming "Eh voy adran!"
Sorry, keep going.
Or similar?
Regardless, it gets my vote.
Otherworld
Go on if you want it.
An otherworld awaits you
Don’t you give up on it.
You bite the hand that feeds you.
All alone cold fields you wander
Memories of it, cloud your sight
Fills your dreams, disturbs your slumber
Lost your way, a fallen knight
Hold now, aim is steady
An otherworld awaits you.
One thousand years–you ready?
The otherworld it takes you
Go into the sand and the dust in the sky
Go now, there’s no better plan than to do or to die
Free me pray to the faith in the face of the light
Feed me fill me with sin now get ready to fight
You know you will
You know you will
You know you know you know you know that you will
You know you know you know you know that you will
Fight fight fight
Fight fight fight
Fight fight fight
Hope dies and you wander
The otherworld it makes you
Dreams they rip asunder
The otherworld it hates you
Free now ride up on it
Up to the heights it takes you
Go on if you want it.
An otherworld awaits you

Mrm, sorry to interrupt, but "Eh voy adran!" doesn’t translate to anything in English.
Avoy adran? I don’t know, I’m not fluent in Al Behd. It’s just a guesstimate.
So, once again, the commercialized track which made it as far as the forum description proves to be more popular. Kudos to Crisis for making it as far as it did, though, didn’t think it’d get more than 2 or 3 considering it’s a bunch of noises, but looks like a lot of people seem to have that unique taste.
Round 1 – Battle 12
Song of Prayer – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/20%20-%20Song%20of%20Prayer.mp3)
The original Hymn of the Fayth track, before all 10-some of those spinoffs. Just so you know, besides "Warping to a Different Dimension" (which doesn’t really count as it’s slightly different), this is the ONLY Hymn track I’m using in the rumble, so if you like the Hymn of the Fayth go with this one, regardless of which version it is. It’s gonna represent it as a whole. But for the record, this original version plays in every temple entrance (except Macalania), in the Remiem Fayth Chamber, the scene where Seymour "saves" Luca, as well as the scene where he silently proposes to Yuna, and finally, after Operation Mi’hen.
VS.
Al Bhed Tribe’s Chi – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/15%20-%20Al%20Bhed%20Tribe‘s%20Chi.mp3)
This is only used once in the game, in the scene where you first meet Rikku on the ship at the very beginning. I had to listen to it again, to remind myself what it sounds like. Seems like a slowed down version of Rikku’s Theme at some parts. As for the title if anyone can explain what "Chi" means, that’d be great. I just think of it as a character theme or an organization theme.
Al Bhed Tribe’s Chi is my choice easily. It’s nice, not too cheery, and I got sick of the Hymn tracks.
Speaking of the Al Bhed — http://www.pixelscapes.com/twoflower/albhed.html
I don’t claim to be fluent in Al Bhed either, but that there lets you instantly translate anything from Al Bhed to English, or vice versa.
i hate both
i hate both
Then why post?
Al Bhed Tribe’s Chi 8-7 Song of Prayer
WOW! I swear before I counted I was CERTAIN Song of Prayer was ahead, especially since the last few votes were for it and just the one today broke it.
Anyway, looks like the hymn isn’t so lucky this time… ah well, we’ve still got that Dimension track. But also, Rikku’s (spinoff) theme wins again!
Round 1 – Battle 13
Shoopuf Riding – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/47%20-%20Ciparf%20Riding.mp3)
A nice melodic theme only used once in the game as well, just when the title says. Rides ze shoopuf?? Um… nothing more for me to say except *insert random shoopuf joke here*.
How far will it go…
VS.
Inflexible Determination – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/34%20-%20Inflexible%20Determination.mp3)
A more common track full of suspense, but slightly less melodic than its opponent. Agent you said it’s sometimes referred to as "Decision on the Dock"? Why? The only places it’s played are when you fight Kimahri, when Yuna goes missing in Luca (maybe they mean that), when you’re preparing for a Blitzball game on the setup screen, on Mushroom Rock Road before Operation Mi’hen, and in the Zanarkand Dome.
I’m gonna go with Shoopuf Riding, I like upbeat tracks and suspenseful ones but this one deserves more recognition.
Then why post?
Post counter + 1
Agent you said it’s sometimes referred to as "Decision on the Dock"? Why?
Don’t know — I’m not the one who makes those decisions. You’d have to ask the people who came up with the International Version soundtrack. ๐ Though I think the Luca thing you described may be the best explanation.
For some reason, it’s called Unwavering Decision on my copy of the album. >_>; I’ll just stick to Ciparf Riding (Blue Laguna ftl).
It looks like the "Ciparf" takes it this time. BTW Jeff were you thinking of "Underground Activities?"
Round 1 – Battle 14
I can Fly – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/65%20-%20I%20Can%20Fly.mp3)
Remember that scene where Yuna jumps off the Highbridge to have Valefor catch her? That’s when this is used, and what it’s named for… anyway, it seems boring at the beginning but it gets a lot more exciting later, sounding like a Kingdom Hearts mix. I guess a lot of people must have appreciated it considering it was nominated a few times.
VS.
Yuna’s Theme – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/27%20-%20Yuna‘s%20Theme.mp3)
Unlike "I Can Fly", this track seems to be more melodic at the start, and is also used many many times in this game unlike a lot of other character themes. Numerous times, such as when she packs her bags, before boarding the Liki (and then permanently on Besaid Beach, the famous "laughing scene", in the Macalania Forest Lake, before leaving Djose, upon entering Gagazet, and when she drops her goodbye sphere… yep, many times.
I gotta say Yuna’s Theme since I don’t quite get the appeal of "I Can Fly".
Looks like this was a no-brainer. Poor little "I Can Fly", seems to be getting the shaft here, but who can resist a character theme? BTW, to the person who said it was on the VIII soundtrack, I totally agree, it’s SO "Fragments of Memories".
Round 1 – Battle 15
Auron’s Theme – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/38%20-%20Auron‘s%20Theme.mp3)
And here we have another character theme, one of the best ones around. If I’m not mistaken it went down in the general rumble. How great a character Auron is, that’s another story, but I think this theme speaks for itself. It is played first when Auron is reunited in Luca as well as when he asks to become a guardian for Yuna, also in Zanarkand during the flashback with Jecht’s request, and in "Auron’s Sphere", and finally at the end when Yuna sends him.
VS.
Traveling Company – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/41%20-%20Traveling%20Company.mp3)
The "Rin’s Travel Agency" theme, except for some reason it’s played in every agency but the Thunder Plains one which plays "Sight of Spira" instead. A lovely piano piece… it might seems odd to say this, but it kinda sounds more like the style of a lot of X-2 tracks! Must have been a bit of foreshadowing… maybe it’s just me.
Me? Auron’s Theme, hands down. I really like the other, though.
Ah well, piano themes don’t always win, but this is another character theme victory! No worries, there are better piano themes coming up, especially one that I know some of you are waiting for coming soon…
Auron’s Theme is great, and looks like it’ll get a chance here unlike at the General Rumble where it went down.
Round 1 – Battle 16
Tidus’ Theme – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/04%20-%20Tidus‘%20Theme.mp3)
I know… another character theme?! Tidus’ Theme is a beautiful string song, and it’s actually original and standalone for once and as it doesn’t have a recurring melody in other tracks. It’s played first at some point in Zanarkand Stadium before the game, and on the S.S. Winno all the time, and after Spherimorph when you get the first Jecht Sphere, and finally during the ending sequence around the fire.
VS.
Besaid Island – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/18%20-%20Bisaido%20Island.mp3)
I won’t need to say where it’s played (unless it was used anywhere else which it wasn’t). So another relatively catchy piano theme, which somehow made it onto the piano collections where it was sped up. Well, it’s actually played everywhere but the village and the beach, which have other themes reserved for them, but still… nice catchy song.
I actually can’t picture a prediction for how this round will turn out considering the level of both pieces. I’ve always been fond of Besaid Island, but not the I have high expectations for it to win.
Hate the guy, love the theme.
Oh well, character themes can’t win ’em all. But I’m actually impressed with Besaid Island managing to pull it off, wonder how far it would go.
And… we’re halfway through the first round!
Round 1 – Battle 17
Mi’hen Highway – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/39%20-%20Mi‘ihen%20Highway.mp3)
Yeah… the Mi’hen Highway theme. It’s a lot more depressing in comparison to X-2’s Mi’hen theme, but still nice. Love the chromatic rolls. In addition to being played there, you can also hear it for the first time in the S.S. Liki power room where the Chocobos are.
VS.
Challenge – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/80%20-%20Challenge.mp3)
A piece that demonstrates how game music can be awesome without having to be on piano or guitar or some classical sounding melody. This isn’t any of that, yet it’s an awesome battle theme once you listen to the whole loop. As it’s name says, it just so happens to be played in the specific battles that a lot of people seem to get stuck on: Seymour Flux, Sinspawn Gui (Part 2), Yunalesca, Omega Weapon, and in the international version, Dark Bahamut.
I gotta go with Challenge. Needs more recognition/appreciation.
Challenge 8-0 Mi’hen Highway
Perfect, now if all goes well this will go back to alternating X and X-2 day by day.
Here’s a round I’ve been looking forward to.
Round 1 – Battle 18
Brass de Chocobo – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/40%20-%20Brass%20de%20Chocobo.mp3)
FFX’s sole Chocobo theme. Not that it needs more than one, considering Chocobos kinda got the shaft in this game. There’s no big sidequest really involving raising or breeding, you just rent and ride them and there’s that one tough minigame. Oh, well, also the sidestory with the Chocobo Knights, but that’s different. But the awesomeness of this theme makes up for it. Who needs another one?
VS.
Path of Repentance – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/66%20-%20Path%20of%20Repentance.mp3)
This is that beautiful Via Purifico theme that I thought was underlooked, but it seemed to be popular among the shriners. Awesome piano piece, has a hell of a leg on "To Zanarkand". Unfortunately it’s used only during that one-time venture in the Via Purifico… oh well.
Gotta go with Path of Repentace. Love it.
This is my favourite song in the entire game ^^
It is so catchy, perhaps one of my favorite pieces chocobo music.
I know Path of Repentance is nice. Really soothing to listen to. But I’m more of a fan of the upbeat music. As i have said before. So thats why i voted for Brass De Chocobo.
Path of Repentance. It has a really unique feel compared to some of the other tunes in the game, and the chocobo theme just didn’t hack it compared to certain other chocobo themes.
Oh, P.S.:
Also I believe it’s known has the Mi’hen Highroad
It goes equally by both names in soundtrack listings, similar to many of the alternate namings on the various tracks. In fact, on the X International soundtrack, Path of Repentance is known as simply "Via Purifico." And "Brass de Chocobo" sometimes goes by "Chocobo Jam."
That’s why I love it! Path Of Repentance
Maybe I’m blind but who are you replying to?
Path of Repentance 9-3 Brass De Chocobo
Looks like Chocobo themes will be getting the shaft this time. Who would have expected it to win against the extraordinary Via Purifico theme, though?
Yeah, I see PoR going far.
Round 1 – Battle 19
Normal Battle – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/09%20-%20Normal%20Battle.mp3)
FFX’s normal battle theme. Duhh… gotta love battle themes.
VS.
Brave Advancement – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/73%20-%20Brave%20Advancement.mp3)
The music in the arena area. It’s a pretty cool theme, and it’s amazing that they create a whole track to dedicate to one small room. Well, that room does have some of the biggest optional challenges in the game, so…
I have to go with Normal Battle here. I know battle music is underrated because you get tired of it fast, but I happen to be quite fond of FFX’s when you listen to all of them right after each other after having not played in a while. Of all the battle themes, it’s also one of the most fun to play on an instrument.
Yeah, I saw the two songs before the one that was current and submitted my vote when it was too late. Then, I put "Awaiting uploads" while I was downloading the current songs and then I, again, edited my post with my new vote.
Sorry for the confusion. xP
Its alot better. I’m actually not a fan at all of brave advancement. Too slow for where it is. And gets boring.
Normal Battle — it’s quite good for a regular battle theme.
Brave Advancement never really stood out to me.
No contest there… looks like Normal Battle music is less annoying for once.
Round 1 – Battle 20
Start – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/61%20-%20Start.mp3)
The other Airship theme… the main one for FFX. By "other" I mean it switches a few times with "To the End of the Abyss", which suffered a loss in the second round… how will this go?
VS.
Darkness – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/82%20-%20Darkness.mp3)
This drum beat actually gets a little more interesting through the whole loop. It’s played all the time in Remiem Temple, on the Omega Ruins upper level… the only non-secret part where it’s played is when they get caught by Kinoc.
I choose Darkness.
Edit — since I wasn’t all that familiar with "Darkness" I decided to go ahead and download it. I must say, I’m disappointed. I don’t see what all the fuss is about. "Start" is thrilling and exciting — "Darkness" to me is just repetitive and boring. No thrill factor whatsoever — not even a hint of anything interesting that I can find.
BTW…

Hah I actually voted Darkness because I thought it would lose, but I guess I sorta see the appeal of it. Just like with "Wandering Flame" it’s not really about the tune, but about the sound… and how well it fits where it’s played.
Anyway, waiting for Jeff…
Start 6-5 Darkness
Airship theme triumphs this time.
Next up!
Round 1 – Battle 21
Time of Judgment – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/68%20-%20Time%20of%20Judgement.mp3)
Played usually when something big is about to happen. First it’s used at the top of the MRR right before Operation Mi’hen when everyone’s preparing and you first meet Kinoc, then during the trial, and then at some points on the Bevelle Highbridge (especially before the confrontation with Mika at the end). Also call me crazy, but does anyone else find it to sound a lot like FFVII’s "Judgment Day"?
VS.
Ending Theme – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/89%20-%20Ending%20Theme.mp3)
The long piece played during the sequence of Ending FMVs which has some of the hymn, as well as the other main FFX themes.
I gotta pick Time of Judgment. I like it a LOT, and also I never liked long themes which constantly change from beat to beat trying to represent everything, like with opening or ending FMVs. I prefer ones that are identifiable and that you could differentiate rather than long winded constantly changing. Plus I don’t like the ending FMV anyway.
Still, even on music alone ToJ is still better.
Also, I’m going for Ending Theme — I have no problem with shifting themes, and I like this tune’s music.
Closer battle than I expected, but looks like the Ending Theme is gonna be hard to beat.
Round 1 – Battle 22
Seymour Battle – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/85%20-%20Seymour%20Battle.mp3)
Awesome track, and despite the title I wouldn’t class it as one of the many "Seymour" themes, as it doesn’t go along the same pattern as his main theme, ambition, Permitted Transit, Father’s Murderer, etc. Instead it’s one in it’s own. It’s used for Seymour Omnis, the last fight.
VS.
Blitzball Gamblers – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/17%20-%20Blitz%20Ball%20Gamblers.mp3)
The theme of the Aurochs, which is also kind of a remix of Tidus’ Theme. Played during the big Auroch scenes like when you first meet them, the announcement in Luca, the start of the tournament, and when Wakka goes back in. Also the beginning of it kinda sounds like X-2’s Luca theme.
Easily Seymour Battle for me.
It’s a shame to see Blitzball Gamblers leave so early though…
Seymour Battle 8-0 Blitzball Gamblers
I agree it sucks to see Blitzball Gamblers get screwed over, but I promised myself I wouldn’t alter the randomizer’s work, so… shit happens. Seriously though, SOMEONE needed the shaft of being placed against SB in the first round…
EDIT: Must have missed the Gamblers vote so seeing as I ended this round two days earlier than I should, you may keep voting in it as well as in the following one, and it’ll be counted especially if Blitz manages to overtake Seymour.
Round 1 – Battle 23
Between Ordeals – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/22%20-%20Between%20Ordeals.mp3)
The Cloister of Trials theme (it’s commonly titled "Cloister Of Trials" but Between Ordeals is the true title). Yeah, played in all the cloisters sans Macalania where Seymour’s Theme plays (except when you go back later). Also, is it just me, or at the beginning it sounds like a really low voice saying "Ordeals"? Hah.
VS.
Prelude – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/03%20-%20The%20Prelude.mp3)
And here we have FFX’s rendition of the recycled "Prelude" theme, making it more upbeat. It might sound different at the start, but listen to it about a minute or a little less in and you’ll hear it. Unlike most of the games, it’s not on the menu. Don’t remember where? I probably wouldn’t have either. It’s in two places: At the beginning when Tidus is signing autographs and you get to name him, and during the Sphere Grid tutorial on the Al Bhed ship. Great track though, should have been used a little more.
I gotta go with Between Ordeals, though. It’s not my usual M.O. or principle to choose that in such a situation, but I happen to really like it enough to not wanna see it go yet. I’d hate to see either go, though, but Between Ordeals takes priority for me.
Damn… I could have sworn it didn’t. Did you edit, Ket? If not, my apologies.
Well, I’d rather not delete this post since people have already started voting on this round, and wait again.
Meh, BG didn’t have that much of a chance, but here’s what I’ll do to be fair:
This round will continue, and since it would have ended at the same time, anyone who DIDN’T vote in the last round can feel free to say who they would have said in the last one, along with their vote in this round, and I’ll count them adding on to the 7-1.
I doubt it’ll make much of a difference, but, just for fairness. Anyone who didn’t vote that would have said Seymour Battle probably won’t even need to bother (but still can). But if you would have said Blitzball Gamblers definitely say so.
Also, if Ket did edit, from now on, no editing allowed.
Between Ordeals for this round. They kinda ruined the traditional FF prelude/menu screen theme in X, in my opinion.
The Prelude is presented in a most interesting form in this game.
God, how I hated the Cloister Of Trials. And god, how I hated the music.
I honestly had no idea the Cloister theme was that hated… oh well. Always love a good Prelude mix.
And, looks like Seymour Battle remains the winner of the last round. Sorry about that, won’t happen again… good thing it was a majorly obvious one I ended early rather than a more even one.
Round 1 – Battle 24
Daughter of the Great Summoner – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/25%20-%20Daughter%20of%20the%20Great%20Summon.mp3)
Even though the subject of the title refers to Yuna, this is actually more like Braska’s Theme. It’s played in Braska’s Sphere, and when you first meet Yuna as she’s introduced as his daughter. Also at one point on the Airship Deck in a scene talking about Yu Yevon.
VS.
People of the North Pole – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/75%20-%20People%20of%20the%20North%20Pole.mp3)
Kimahri and Wakka are the only theme-less PCs in this game for some reason, but this is as close to Kimahri’s Theme as you get. Though, it’s more the theme of the Ronso’s as a whole, and Gagazet. Played at Mt. Gagazet and in both the confrontations with Biran and Yenke in Luca and in the Moonflow.
People of the North Pole for me…
Uh-huh. I believe this is a washout.
People of the Far North 9-0 Daughter of the Great Summoner
Ah well, DotGS seems to have gotten the shaft. I honestly didn’t expect it, but looks like everyone’s happy.
That brings us 3/4 through the first round… Woo! I love big long rumbles! When they’re updated constantly, that is.
Round 1 – Battle 25
Enemy Attack – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/16%20-%20Enemy%20Attack.mp3)
FFX’s default boss theme. Upbeat, though for some reason the tone of it makes it hard to imagine anything other than an underwater when listening to it… or maybe it’s just me, or the fact that a ton were underwater. Either way it’s pretty interesting.
VS.
Luca – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/32%20-%20Luka.mp3)
The theme of Luca, which, for a location theme, couldn’t have fit better. It’s very relaxing as well, and I believe needs more recognition than it gets. Then again, it is used in a whole huge location so I can’t exactly say it’s unrecognized, but…
I choose Luca. Enemy Attack may be upbeat and all, but for a boss theme, it doesn’t quite add up. While the Normal Battle theme is one of the best out there next to past FF’s normal battle tracks, I can’t say the same about the boss theme compared to other boss themes. Now, "Challenge" is where it’s at for this game, that’s a whole different story, and we still have that, and the Normal Battle theme as well.
And I like Luca for the reasons mentioned in my description.
I almost voted for it, but couldn’t. When I consider it on the whole, it’s actually one of the weaker "Suteki da Ne" variations and "People of the North Pole" was just too good.
Oh, and for this one? Luca to even it up. It’s not dull, it’s just cool.
Really close battle, but Luca’s theme manages to pull off a victory against a battle theme. But not worries, we still have Challenge and Normal Battle which are the true battle themes to judge this game for.
Round 1 – Battle 26
Thunder Plateau – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/50%20-%20Thunder%20Plateau.mp3)
The theme of the Thunder Plains. I love this piece, which rightfully made it to the piano collection album. It could get annoying to those of you like myself who dodged 200 lightning bolts, but that didn’t change it for me.
VS.
Attack – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/63%20-%20Attack.mp3)
Also a great track… here we have an upbeat battle theme. Not to be confused with "Start" (the beginning sounds very much like it but it’s faster, I’d get the two mixed up at one point), this is the theme for the Bevelle raid FMV, as well as the Sin battle music, and that’s about it. Of course, I meant the Sin airship battle. This also made it onto the piano collections, somehow…
Damn, really tough choice… Thunder Plateau.
But one of them must, and it’ll be up to Cookie (Calum) to decide. PMing…
Attack
Attack 6-4 Thunder Plateau
Not a good day for piano tracks… ah well, as much as I hate to see TP go this early, at least the Sin battle theme is progressing.
Next battle should be very intereting, and a nice way to return.
Round 1 – Battle 27
Decisive Battle – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/88%20-%20Decisive%20Battle.mp3)
A beautiful battle theme, for the very very last battle… Yu Yevon. Sucks that it’s such a short battle (it’s only played after the aeons are all gone and you’re fighting Yu Yevon), makes it seem like it went to waste. It deserves a lot of recognition, and since you have no chance of losing, some like to prolong that battle to listen to it since that’ll be the only chance! But as to what makes that battle "decisive" I still don’t quite get. Anyway, my second favorite battle theme after Seymour, not even by a whole lot. Also part of the piano collection. But it may have some competition…
VS.
Suteki Da Ne (Isn’t it Beautiful) – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/70%20-%20Suteki%20da%20ne.mp3) (lyrics in Japanese)
FFX’s commercial lyriced track. A firm favorite among fans, mainly for that reason. There’s always gonna be that "Eyes on Me" or "Melodies of Life" somewhere… Well, there’s also Otherworld, but, well… let’s not go there. Suteki has a lot of variations we’ll come across soon anyway. In the game it’s played on the forest lake scene. An orchestrated version is played as well at the end credits, but that’s kind of a seperate track.
A lot of people are probably pissed about seeing these two paired up in the first round, but I’m not. Easy one for Decisive Battle. I’m not all about the over-hyped tracks. Decisive Battle is one of a kind, no variations. Besides, Suteki I believe won the last FFX music rumble four years ago that only included 16 tracks…. right, I can live without it. Decisive Battle, however, I cannot.
Also I vote for Suteki Da Ne
Exclusive battle tracks seem to trump the commercial tracks. I bet a lot didn’t expect Suteki to go this early, but if anyone actually minds, ah well. It’s no Decisive Battle.
Had it not been for the downtime, this round would be just about over by now. But… gotta take care of the last few!
Warning: Two extremely diverse and different tracks ahead.
Round 1 – Battle 28
The Deceased Laugh – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/84%20-%20The%20Deceased%20Laugh.mp3)
Yep, ANOTHER Seymour track! It’s a great track, but unfortunately many forget it as a Seymour track, seeing as it’s only played after you beat Seymour the last time and send him. It’s also at the bottom of the soundtrack and doesn’t have "Seymour" in the title, so you just kinda miss it. It’s interesting how it focuses mostly on the half of Seymour’s Theme that "Seymour’s Ambition" didn’t. That being the beginning and the base.
VS.
Victory Fanfare – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/10%20-%20Victory%20Fanfare.mp3)
I don’t think I need to explain what a "Fanfare" is, as anyone with remote soundtrack knowledge would know. If you don’t, click the link and you’ll see why. I’d imagine a lot are probably sick of the fanfares, as beautiful as they are, but how about instead of focusing on the recycled Fanfare itself, focus on the X refrain for it. After the classics, each fanfare had it’s own refrain… X’s is pretty cool and unique. It is my second favorite fanfare refrain after VIII’s. If you forget how it goes, I’d advise checking it out before voting against it based on the sole fact that it’s a fanfare.
As for me… yeah, alright, it’s not about the fanfare, it’s about X’s refrain, but I still choose The Deceased Laugh, as much as I like it.
So the Victory Fanfare wasn’t so victorious after all. Oh well, however long it would have lasted, at least it was included.
Which leaves us with yet another Seymour theme moving on. Funny how so far just about every Seymour related track has won, except for Seymour’s Theme itself.
Round 1 – Battle 29
Macalania Forest – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/52%20-%20Makalanya%20Forest.mp3)
Don’t be fooled by the title, as for some reason it’s only played in like 20% of Macalania Forest itself. Aside from that, it’s played only in the area you can’t reach until after you go to Bevelle, because Lucil and Elma are blocking it. Just the two screens on the left that lead to the lake, Bevelle, and Calm Lands, and that campsite are where this track is played, in addition to the Moonflow. The rest plays SBTS, for some reason. It’s still a nice song, nonetheless.
VS.
Summoned – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/24%20-%20Summoned.mp3)
Besides on the menu screen, it’s played in the scene where we first meet Valefor, our first aeon, and Yuna performs her first summoning. Relatively short track, but nice.
Not exactly crazy about either, but I go with Macalania Forest.
Not exactly crazy about either, but I go with Macalania Forest.
Why is it doing so badly.
This round would have been a washout if it hadn’t been for Agent’s 8th vote for Summoned prolonging it, but at least it did put up a good fight. Macalania Forest seems to have a lot more appeal…
But anyway, unlike the last round, we have two tracks that I DO like, either of which I’ll be sorry to see go now.
Round 1 – Battle 30
Lulu’s Theme – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/72%20-%20Lulu‘s%20Theme.mp3)
Where is this beautiful character theme played, you ask? I was wondering that myself before I replayed the game, seeing as it’s not played around any time you meet her, but it turns out it’s solely for the Yojimbo battle with that dead summoner, and nowhere else. Wonder why they decided to name it a character theme… ah well, it does have that sort of feel. If only it had been treated like a proper character theme and used more.
VS.
The Splended Performance – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/35%20-%20The%20Splendid%20Performance.mp3)
Another awesome track that is unfortunately only used once. Great piano work here, I predict this will be an even-ish battle. The only time it’s played is in Luca when you first see the sphere pool and Wakka beating the Al Bhed Psyches at Blitzball. Blitzball Gamblers may have lost, but to me, compared to this, it has nothing on this anyway.
I need to think a little, will choose later.
Blitzball Gamblers may have lost, but it has nothing on this anyway.
LIEZ.
Poor Lulu and her theme get shafted both here AND in the character theme rumble… ah well. But on the bright side, Splendid Performance moving forth should be interesting.
And… that brings us to two more battles in this long-winded round!
Round 1 – Battle 31
Summoned Beast Battle – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/87%20-%20Summoned%20Beast%20Battle.mp3)
Another epic battle theme, played when you’re fighting off Yu Yevon’s aeons. However, in the international version, the big fight with Penance also features it… who would have thought. This track also sounds a lot like some of the boss battle themes in Kingdom Hearts.
VS.
Someday the Dream Will End – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/78%20-%20Someday%20the%20Dream%20Will%20End.mp3)
Besides being the theme in Zanarkand Ruins (which fits in well), this beautiful theme is played in a bunch of the really touching scenes in the game. Namely the scene after defeating Jecht, the scene where Tidus chases Sin after Operation Mi’hen, the part on the airship where they plan to end it all, and also on the boat when you first really meet Yuna in the "The wind… it’s nice.")
It’s also slightly to the tune of "Suteki Da Ne", with a more depressing feel.
Someday the Dream Will End gets my vote. To be quite honest, I just listened to "Summoned Beast Battle" the whole loop, and I still don’t get the appeal of it over other battle themes. It’s alright, but next to this, it can go.
I also like StDWE better than Suteki Da Ne.
(just noticed i have not voted in this thread)
Someday the Dream Will End 8-0 Summoned Beast Battle
Alright I guess I was wrong when I said a lot of people are obsessed with SBB for unknown reasons. Either that, or Someday the Dream Will End is just too good, but either way, I see it lasting a while!
At long last, the concluding battle of this round…
Round 1 – Battle 32
Blitz Off! – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/37%20-%20Blitz%20Off.mp3)
The theme of blitzball games. The most long-winded sidequest ever, but still quite fun if you know what you’re doing. Anyway, great theme, really fits well with the sphere pool. It may be mostly drums, but it proves that music isn’t everything.
VS.
Sprouting – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/28%20-%20Sprouting.mp3)
Stacatto drum/string version of To Zanarkand here. Not sure where the name comes from, but it’s played on the SS Liki and the Moonflow road.
I’ll go with Blitz Off! Come on.
Sprouting
sorry guys
How I didn’t get annoyed with this track after playing so much blitzball I don’t know.
So, melody isn’t everything it seems. Blitz Off just never gets old now, does it! I see it going quite far.
…AND that CONCLUDES the first round of this rumble! All 19 pages of it… whew!
Stay tuned for the second round later today, will take some time to set up. For some rounds I need to even look back to remind myself who won, lol.
So let’s get started now shall we.
Round 2 – Battle 1
Sight of Spira – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/19%20-%20The%20Sight%20of%20Spira.mp3)
For some reason either the game itself has the stereo messed up, or it doesn’t loop all the way, or my own stereo is messed up. Because, when you listen to the mp3 of that you hear sort of a guitar version of "Someday the Dream Will End" and the melody for that itself is barely audible in the game, to me it was just the same few notes over and over again in the villages where it played. It somehow managed to beat "Those Who Come Closer" in the last round, so my guess is people are somehow able to hear it for what it is in their game unlike myself, or they actually listened to the mp3.
VS.
Warping to a Different Dimension – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/29%20-%20Warping%20to%20a%20Different%20Dimension.mp3)
The surviving version of the Hymn of the two I used in the last round. So, if you like the hymn, stick with this, cause it’s all you got left. Even though it’s technically a short one and has that beat thing and is designed especially for the sending FMV and doesn’t fit in well with the "Songs of Prayer". It also beat "Fantasy" by a nose in the last round via a tie break.
Hmm, I’m not too fond of either, but I go for Warping to a Different Dimension, seeing as I was less bothered with its opponent losing than I was with Sight of Spira’s opponent going.
I noticed Erebus Wraith hasn’t voted, surprisingly, so he’ll be our decider for this one.
Close battle, but it seems last standing variation of the Hymn has been completely wiped out. Sight of Spira moves on yet again, to the top 16.
Next battle might piss some of you off, but let’s get it out of the way…
Round 2 – Battle 2
Besaid Island – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/18%20-%20Bisaido%20Island.mp3)
The main Besaid theme, which beat Tidus’ Theme in the last round. Today… it might not be so lucky… or will it?
VS.
Seymour Battle – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/85%20-%20Seymour%20Battle.mp3)
Again… Seymour Battle shows up when you least expect it. Will Besaid get the shaft much like it’s previous opponent did?
I like Besaid, but I’m not ready for Seymour Battle to go yet. If at all ๐
Sorry I didn’t vote or vote for the tie breaker. It’s been a busy week visiting relatives and such. For this round I vote, Besaid Island
Dunno how it happened, but Besaid Island trumped the epic Seymour Battle theme. And here I was thinking that would win. I guess they must either really like Besaid Island or not want a predictable win, which is understandable, Besaid Island is great. ๐
Round 2 – Battle 3
The Deceased Laugh – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/84%20-%20The%20Deceased%20Laugh.mp3)
Kinda perfectly fitting for the next round… seeing as Seymour Battle just lost, and this is the Seymour theme that plays after Seymour loses THAT battle… so will his laugh be "deceased"? It was victorious over the Victory Fanfare in the last round…
VS.
People of the North Pole – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/75%20-%20People%20of%20the%20North%20Pole.mp3)
The ever-so-popular Gagazet Theme. This one won in a washout of… 10-0 was it? Against Braska’s Theme in the last round. So can it "decease" the "laugh"?
Just gonna give The Deceased Laugh a headstart…
(Oh, and I really like Besaid Island.)
X2
Twice in a row Seymour is beaten, and the Ronso theme lives on… But Seymour is not totally deceased yet, still got some tracks standing!
BTW,
I passed on The Deceased Laugh in the last round and am hoping it gets its just due here. Not that I’m really all that fond of People of the North Pole, but I’ll gladly vote for it here.
You nominated it… ๐
Round 2 – Battle 4
Start – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/61%20-%20Start.mp3)
The airship theme, that won by a nose somehow in the last round against Darkness. It’s gonna need a lot of luck because…
VS.
Path of Repentance – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/66%20-%20Path%20of%20Repentance.mp3)
The notorious theme worth prolonging your time in Via Purifico for since you’ll never see it again. Makes me wanna get convicted by Yevonites and thrown into the Via Purifico. It beat this game’s sole Chocobo theme in the last round…
Path of Repentance is the obvious choice even though I like Start…
I get the feeling this will be a short battle…
I nominated a ton of stuff, though.
Oh, and I’m going to go against the crowd here and go with Start.
Path of Repentance 9-3 Start
Ah well, as cool as the airship theme was, it’s no match for the standout Path of Repentance.
Round 2 – Battle 5
Attack – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/63%20-%20Attack.mp3)
I used to get this one and Start mixed up a lot, probably because of the beginning, though this one’s a little faster. This is the Sin battle music as well as the invading Bevelle FMV track. And, it took a week for it to win the last round against the Thunder Plateau, due to the forums being down.
VS.
Seymour’s Ambition – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/55%20-%20Seymour‘s%20Ambition.mp3)
Seymour again… his themes have been on a losing streak in this round so far. But this one happened to be the first to pull off a victory in the last round. Will it move on? Attack is a formidable opponent to end the losing streak on…
Okay, I REALLY like Attack as well (better than Start that’s for sure), but I’d rather see Seymour’s Ambition move on. It’s my favorite Seymour mix (Seymour Battle doesn’t count since it doesn’t reflect on his theme). It’s also one of… what, two left standing, and the one of the two I’d wanna to go on.
To add to that, I would have preferred Thunder Plateau in the last round. ๐
Sorry, Attack.
Seymour finally gets a deserving victory after his losing streak… what a good secret weapon an "ambition" can be. But, Attack does put up a good fight that it deserves.
Next battle also features Seymour…
Round 2 – Battle 6
Decisive Battle – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/88%20-%20Decisive%20Battle.mp3)
One of the best battle themes in the game used for Yu Yevon, bested Suteki Da Ne in the last round. I see it going far…
VS.
My Father’s Murderer – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/69%20-%20My%20Father‘s%20Murderer.mp3)
AKA "Patricide". I believe the last we’ll see of Seymour in this round. Ambition moved up after a narrow victory, and a losing streak of the rest of his track, but will this join it?
Ambition better not go down without a fight though, if anyone deserves to be the last Seymour standing, that’s it.
Decisive Battle, being a really unique final boss theme, seems to be destined to make it far. And this leaves only one more Seymour standing…
Round 2 – Battle 7
Challenge – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/80%20-%20Challenge.mp3)
Epic boss theme used for five battles in the game that the creators probably assumed were the hardest or most epic fights or moments. If that’s the case, then they did well, considering Seymour Flux is the only Seymour fight with that theme, and the only distinction it has is that it’s actually tough. The rest are superbosses (and Dark Bahamut is the only Dark Aeon and a lot say he was the hardest). This theme won in a straight-up washout in the last round against Mi’hen Highway. This track alone is proof that a theme doesn’t have to be all that melodic to be epic.
VS.
To Zanarkand – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/02%20-%20To%20Zanarkand.mp3)
An interesting matchup, you might say. These two are great themes, but they’re like polar opposites. One’s a boss theme, the other is the antithesis. One’s melodic, another is epic in a different way, one is barely known, another is commercialized a lot. And finally, Challenge won a washout, while To Zanarkand had a tough win with one vote difference against it’s cousin "Revealed Truth".
I pick Challenge just because.
…I guess
Challenge wins again… this time with competition, as To Zanarkand put up a good fight. Oh well, it’s time must be up.
Round 2 – Battle 8
Luca – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffx/32%20-%20Luka.mp3)
Luca’s theme won against Enemy Attack last time, not by a whole lot though. Perhaps it’s opponent will be competition this time as well?
VS.
Wandering Flame – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffx/77%20-%20Wandering%20Flame.mp3)
The theme whenever the sits down to relax and talk about something, and during Tidus’s narrations, and also in the Farplane. It NARROWLY won last time after a 9-9 tie break with Jecht’s Theme. Will it be so lucky this time?
I pick Luca.
Also sorry if the links don’t work, blue laguna’s been having trouble lately, I assume if they do get fixed those will be the urls, but until then if it doesn’t work then youtube it or something.
But if not then Wandering Flame
I actually am not really a fan of Wandering Flame :/
Hey man, you can’t vote twice, you know. :p
To be honest I was afraid that would happen one day.
Wandering Flame wins again, after a more crushing win, and Luca’s out!
Round 2 – Battle 9
Normal Battle – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/09%20-%20Normal%20Battle.mp3)
The Normal Battle theme that practically wiped out the Arena theme last time. Will it be lucky this time?
VS.
Auron’s Theme – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/38%20-%20Auron‘s%20Theme.mp3)
One of the best "themes" lately. I know whoever loses this battle I’m gonna hate it. Love Auron as well as the Normal Battle theme. This is played in scenes when you first reunite with him, and in his sphere, and when he gets sent. I like this especially at the end of the loop, so I recommend a full listen since the scenes where it’s played don’t usually last that long.
No vote from me… yet.
Auron’s Theme easily.
I am actually surprised, to say the least… that a Normal Battle theme can be good enough to crush something like Auron’s Theme. I suppose if there’s any one that can, FFX’s can.
Round 2 – Battle 10
Rikku’s Theme – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/48%20-%20Rikku‘s%20Theme.mp3)
Another character theme… apparently Rikku’s Theme killed the theme of her own home in the last round, the desert. Also I recall people saying it sounds like it came out of the Sims… which I never played, just thought I’d throw that in there.
VS.
Blitz Off! – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/37%20-%20Blitz%20Off.mp3)
Won the concluding battle in the last round (against Sprouting), and it was determined to be one of those "few themes you hear for a long time yet never get sick of". But does that make it better than a character theme? Or not?
I shall choose Blitz Off!
It looks like Rikku’s time is up, yay for Blitz Off!
Round 1 – Battle 11
Prelude – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/03%20-%20The%20Prelude.mp3)
FFX’s rendition of the old Prelude, making it upbeat. Killed "Between Ordeals" in the last round.
VS.
Otherworld – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/05%20-%20Otherworld.mp3)
I’m assuming this is the track which the forums description refers to… eh. Quite a standout among Final Fantasy stuff, as well as a really weird song, especially for a final battle. Beat Crisis in the last round.
I happen to like Otherworld, a tiny bit better than Prelude.
Prelude
Oh well, the interesting Prelude was good while it lasted… but Otherworld makes it to the top 16!
Hmm, next appears to be a themed battle…
Round 2 – Battle 12
Yuna’s Determination – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/71%20-%20Yuna‘s%20Determination.mp3)
Besides being the theme of the Calm Lands, it’s quite… calm. But it’s title refers to the fact that it was also played in Yuna’s goodbye sphere. It beat the "Underground Activities" theme last time, closely though.
VS.
Yuna’s Theme – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/27%20-%20Yuna‘s%20Theme.mp3)
Good matchup, eh? Seymour fought himself in the last round, now it’s Yuna’s turn! One of the most used character themes in the game, can’t even begin to name all the scenes where it plays.
So, which will it be, Yuna or Yuna?
I say Yuna. Determination, that is. It’s more Yun-ique (sorry couldn’t help it).
In Yuna’s battle against herself, her main character theme emerges victorious. Very well then…
Round 2 – Battle 13
Someday the Dream Will End – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/78%20-%20Someday%20the%20Dream%20Will%20End.mp3)
One of the most touching tunes on the soundtrack, and the theme of the Zanarkand Ruins. It beat a popular theme in a washout in the last round, so let’s see just how well it does now.
VS.
Shoopuf Riding – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/47%20-%20Ciparf%20Riding.mp3)
The shoopuf theme… that beat Inflexible Determination in the last round. So… um… yeah.
Someday the Dream Will End is my obvious choice here.
Dare i say wipeout on this one?
I see this being very one-sided.
Someday the Dream Will End 8-0 Shoopuf Riding
Wow, TWO straight wipeout victories from "Someday the Dream Will End". Amazing! Or… is it just getting lucky?
Round 2 – Battle 14
Ending Theme – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/89%20-%20Ending%20Theme.mp3)
Ending Theme is… well, the Ending theme. Beat the "Time of Judgement" in the last round.
VS.
Hurry! – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/06%20-%20Hurry!!.mp3)
The chase theme of this game, first heard near the beginning, and it beat Hopeless Desire in the last round. Eh.
I’m not too fond of either, I don’t like longass shifting themes designed for opening/ending FMVs, and Hurry… well, not so much that my disc tends to freeze in the Zanarkand scene at the beginning when this is playing, but I also can’t stand the fact that it beat Hopeless Desire in the last round. I guess in such a situation Ending Theme is the lesser of the two evils for me, plus most are probably gonna choose that anyway.
Hurry! is not quite so lucky this time… but let’s see just how far the Ending Theme will make it.
Round 2 – Battle 15
The Splendid Performance – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/35%20-%20The%20Splendid%20Performance.mp3)
Splendid theme for a splendid performance. Shame it’s only ever used once in the game, when Wakka beats the Psyches. Beat Lulu’s Theme in the last round, in a fair match. How fair will this match be? We shall see…
VS.
Macalania Forest – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/52%20-%20Makalanya%20Forest.mp3)
Hello Macalania theme that’s only played in two screens OUTSIDE the forest. Not that it isn’t a great track, though.
But I still pick The Splendid Performance, no competition.
I don’t understand it either, but somehow, Splendid Performance has been wasted… by Macalania’s non-Macalania theme. Didn’t go down without a fight, though, but Macalania seems to be a good theme, regardless of what it’s called and when it’s used.
Last battle in this round… here we go!
Round 2 – Battle 16
Silence Before the Storm – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/30%20-%20Silence%20Before%20the%20Storm.mp3)
THIS is the theme that’s actually played in Macalania Forest, and also the main forest/cave theme of the game. Aside from that, it beat "To the End of the Abyss" last time, the other cave theme.
VS.
Al Bhed Tribe’s Chi – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/15%20-%20Al%20Bhed%20Tribe‘s%20Chi.mp3)
Theme only used once in the game, when first meeting Rikku on the boat. Hence why it sounds like a slowed down Rikku’s Theme. It beat the Hymn of the Fayth in the last round, so…
Silence Before the Storm is my choice though I like the other one.
Close match, but as good a track as Al Bhed is, it bites it against SBTS.
That CONCLUDES round 2, round 3 starts shortly… as I get the top 16 ready.
Round 3 – Battle 1
Macalania Forest – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/52%20-%20Makalanya%20Forest.mp3)
[Insert statement here about how it’s not played in most Maclania Forest] but it beat the Splendid Performance and Summoned…
VS.
Wandering Flame – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/77%20-%20Wandering%20Flame.mp3)
Another soothing track… which seems to be popular, as it beat Luca and Jecht’s Theme.
I’ll go with Macalania Forest, even though I resent it beating Splendid Performance… heh…
Well, this is pretty one-sided and unexpected… Wandering Flame owns this round, badly. Goodbye Macalania!
Next up will be more of a competition.
Round 3 – Battle 2
Challenge – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/80%20-%20Challenge.mp3)
The ultimate battle theme of this game, practically beat the last two rounds in a washout, Mi’hen Highway AND To Zanarkand. Wonder how much that says… seriously though, this battle theme owns.
VS.
Someday the Dream Will End – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/78%20-%20Someday%20the%20Dream%20Will%20End.mp3)
The ultimate scene-theme of this game. Hah, no joke. Let’s not forget that it’s Zanarkand’s theme as well, but most importantly it also won in two washouts, against Shoopuf Riding and Summoned Beast Battle!
You also pissed about the pairing? Well, one of them has to go now… who will it be?
After a long hard close battle, "Someday the Dream Will End" wins by a narrow margin. It’s a shame to see Challenge go (and also a shame for me now that I know my vote mattered being one of the ones that voted StDWE).
Oh well, goodbye Challenge!
Round 3 – Battle 3
Decisive Battle – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/88%20-%20Decisive%20Battle.mp3)
Great theme that won in near washouts in the last two rounds, against "My Father’s Murderer" and "Suteki Da Ne"! Played for the Yu Yevon battle.
VS.
Silence Before the Storm – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/30%20-%20Silence%20Before%20the%20Storm.mp3)
The beautiful cave and forest theme of FFX. So far it’s beaten "To the End of the Abyss" and "Al Bhed Tribe’s Chi", two very treasured tracks… can it hack it against the killer Decisive Battle?
Oh well, Decisive Battle.
"Decisive Battle" coasts through again… with more competition, this time, though it sucks to see SBTS go. A rightful victory, I guess.
Round 3 – Battle 4
Blitz Off – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/37%20-%20Blitz%20Off.mp3)
Another great track that’s been doing well. Sounds like it paved the way for X-2. So far it’s outdone Sprouting and Rikku’s Theme.
VS.
Sight of Spira – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/19%20-%20The%20Sight%20of%20Spira.mp3)
The village theme, which seems to be doing well also. Has beaten "Warping to a Different Dimension" and "Those Who Come Closer".
My obvious choice is Blitz Off!
Sight of Spira 7-6 Blitz Off!
And a farewell to Blitz Off, after a close round. Sight of Spira makes the top eight. Wow.
Round 3 – Battle 5
Seymour’s Ambition – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/55%20-%20Seymour‘s%20Ambition.mp3)
This is the last of Seymour’s lives in this round… if this loses, he’s completely out. It’s an amazing Seymour mix, though, rightfully the last standing. So far it beat the theme of fellow Maester Mika, and "Attack". How threatening is it’s opponent?
VS.
Besaid Island – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/18%20-%20Bisaido%20Island.mp3)
Besaid Island… it’s a great track, and it beat Tidus’ Theme alright, but I never expected it to be such a threat as to beat the Seymour Battle theme like it did in the last round. That really is something, never was aware how popular this track really is. Will it wipe out the last Seymour mix left?
As much as I like Besaid, Seymour’s Ambition owns the socks off it.
Another close match, but Seymour’s Ambition manages to pull through. How ambitious to make it to the top 8. And, that’s the end for Besaid… what a sad day to see it go.
Round 3 – Battle 6
Otherworld – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/05%20-%20Otherworld.mp3)
Good ol’ Otherworld… the one that everyone either really loves or hates. Um, yeah… we’re on the third round, so the descriptions won’t be long. Insert description here.
Oh, and it beat Crisis and Prelude. The latter is saying something.
VS.
People of the North Pole – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/75%20-%20People%20of%20the%20North%20Pole.mp3)
Awesome Mt. Gagazet theme of FFX. It’s FFX-2 counterpart happens to be currently up in that rumble and about to win. Yeah… anyway it’s beaten Braska’s Theme and The Deceased Laugh so far.
I have to think about this one. Will vote later.
PotNP was on a winning streak for a while winning by landslides in the last two rounds, so I must say I am truly surprised, as great as Otherworld is. But anyway, score one for Otherworld being in the top 8!
Round 3 – Battle 7
Yuna’s Theme – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/27%20-%20Yuna‘s%20Theme.mp3)
Good old Yuna… well, Yuna’s Determination lost to her own theme, as did I Can Fly. Poor Yuna and her own theme having to beat tracks that have to do with her. Anyway… description. People keep saying that this was on the FFVIII soundtrack. "Fragments of Memories" is probably what they have in mind. Right.
VS.
Normal Battle – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/09%20-%20Normal%20Battle.mp3)
What a popular Normal Battle theme… to make it this far. Beat Brave Advancement and poor Auron’s Theme. Has it met it’s match (not that Auron’s Theme wasn’t)?
I never really caught on to Yuna’s Theme much, too indistinct for me. Score one for Normal Battle.
Also… whisper whisper… Please vote in the X-2 rumble. I’d be updating now, but we only have FOUR votes, what’s going on? Six is the minimum I need, if the time comes and I have less than that, then I must wait. So, I beg of you who watch this one to go, just for now, and cast some votes in X-2
Wow, AMAZINGLY close battle… was tied, what, five times? Yuna’s theme put up a good fight, but it turns out Normal Battle makes it into the top 8.
Last battle of this round, and then onto the quarterfinals.
Round 3 – Battle 8
Path of Repentance – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/66%20-%20Path%20of%20Repentance.mp3)
I think we all know how fun this track is. The great Via Purifico theme… yeah. Beat the Chocobo theme and the airship theme quite easily, two of which would have been competition for almost anything else.
VS.
Ending Theme – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/89%20-%20Ending%20Theme.mp3)
The long blend of themes at the end. So far it’s victims were Time of Judgment, and Hurry. Can’t say much about that, yet…
As for me… well, I’ve always hated the long-winded indistinct blends that are made for only openings or endings, and this looks like an opportunity to knock out Ending Theme. Path of Repentance plz.
Ending theme wins yet again advancing to the quarterfinals. Path of Repentance… time appears to be up. (!!!)
Can’t say I saw that coming…
Anyway, Quarterfinals start soon.
I’m leaving for uni in about a week and I’m just starting there and it may take a while, like up to a week to settle in before I have internet and am able to update again, if at all. Since this one and the IX one are almost over I definitely want to finish them, but as for the X-2 one I might want to hand it to someone else. HOWEVER, I insist on finishing the first round myself, and then someone else may continue it. By the time I’m settled in I’ll decide.
Round 4 – Battle 1
Otherworld – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/05%20-%20Otherworld.mp3[/url)
Can "Uematsu taking a shot at the Rob Zombie thing" make it to the top four?
VS.
Sight of Spira – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/19%20-%20The%20Sight%20of%20Spira.mp3)
This little guitar village theme somehow had the will to make it this far… top 4?
My vote is for Otherworld
And I still HATE how PoR lost.
Can’t stand the other type of music.
It’s time for Otherworld to go. And how on earth did Path of Repentance lose the last round?
Sight of Spira is the first to make the top four (took long enough, haha) but after a month I guess that’s it for Otherworld.
I know we’re in the middle of a round, but I have to rearrange the last six songs that are left, since like I said, I lost all the bracket data. Good thing we’re this far in. So, next battle should start soon. But once it starts, I promise, we’ll be back on the short intervals.
A MASSIVE apology to everyone who was waiting. I appreciate it, Agent, for giving me that month and a half. Good thing I stuck around to ensure my activity, I’m gonna go back to updating every other day. I lost the chart with the brackets, for both this and the X-2 rumble, and no way to recover it. A month hiatus… I just have been too busy to make another one, it takes a while and I started school. But it’s done now. I’ll take care of the X-2 one shortly. And I think I DO have time to run the rumble just as frequently as I used to. But please, I beg you forgive me. I said I would, and here I am. And I can do it, just hope nothing happens to this computer. The last one was 8 years old and the last backup I made was from before I made the rumble charts.
I’ll update frequently now… and yeah, it’s almost over, but let’s end it well!
Anyway… lets get rollin’. We were in the quarter finals, and we completed the first of four battles. Sight of Spira beat Otherworld, going into the top 4!!
Round 4 – Battle 2
Ending Theme – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/89%20-%20Ending%20Theme.mp3)
The Ending theme… unfortunately I can’t give descriptions anymore based on who they beat in the last rounds due to loss of the charts, but all I remember is that it beat a lot of my favorite themes. Path of Repentance included… ๐ก Okay, I know just the last round cause I had to go back and look.
VS.
Normal Battle – Listen Here (http://delta.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/09%20-%20Normal%20Battle.mp3)
The phenomenal battle theme of FFX, which seems to be more popular than I expected, considering who it beat. At least it got rid of Yuna’s Theme in the last round… and Brave Advancement. Will it make the top 4?
To me this is a joke considering how much the long indistinct ending themes bore me, so I gotta go with Normal Battle.
BTW: I might wait three or four days instead of two, until people realize this is started up again. Unless I see a lot of votes after 2 days.
Also I know how you feel Zak, Path of Repentance is my favourite track too. Therefore I will not let Ending Theme win! ๐
Woohoo the Rumble is back!
Good to see this back. ๐
Normal Battle 8-4 Ending Theme
Well, that’s the end of the Ending Theme… (pun sort of intended).
Normal Battle joins Sight of Spira in the top four… as much as I like this theme in itself (even though I got tired of it fast), I didn’t expect it to be this popular!
Next will be fun…
Round 4 – Battle 3
Someday the Dream Will End – Listen Here (http://lamda.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/78%20-%20Someday%20the%20Dream%20Will%20End.mp3)
IMO, a well deserving of the top 8 track. It’s not just the music, it plays during the best scenes. As far the music, the only part that really catches me is the beginning, but does it well!
VS.
Seymour’s Ambition – Listen Here (http://lamda.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/55%20-%20Seymour%27s%20Ambition.mp3)
The last Seymour track standing, and for a damn well good reason. It owns. A lot of his do, but this one is agreeably the best (unless you count Seymour Battle which is better, but that doesn’t follow the theme pattern so I don’t).
Tough call, I gotta go with Seymour’s Ambition.
Looks like the end for Seymour… at least his phenomenal theme didn’t go down without a fight. Oh well, SOMEDAY his DREAM of winning this rumble WILL END.
And StDWE joins the top 4…
Time to determine who the last one for the top 4 will be.
Round 4 – Battle 4
Wandering Flame – Listen Here (http://lamda.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/77%20-%20Wandering%20Flame.mp3)
The narration theme… it’s soothing and all, but I’m actually surprised it made it this far considering the fact that no one nominated it, it was one I decided to fill an empty space with at the last minute. Will it actually pull off the top 4?
VS.
Decisive Battle – Listen Here (http://lamda.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/88%20-%20Decisive%20Battle.mp3)
Yu Yevon’s theme… everyone refers to the final battle theme as Otherworld, this track is way overlooked. I could listen to this all day, it’s a shame that’s the only place we hear it. Worth prolonging that awfully short battle, that must be why. At least it deservingly made the piano collection, but what about the top 4 of this rumble?
Decisive Battle easily for me. I’m actually surprised Wandering Flame made it this far, I thought it’d be gone in the first or second round. Must have an appeal…
Surprisingly close!! Decisive Battle looks like it’ll be in the top 4, for now.
Okay, top four, time for the semifinals!
Semifinals – Battle 1
Decisive Battle – Listen Here (http://lamda.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/88%20-%20Decisive%20Battle.mp3)
Good to see it getting the attention it deserves, just beat Wandering Flame to make it to the top four. Let’s just see which place it will win. This one has certainly been a strong individual.
VS.
Someday the Dream Will End – Listen Here (http://lamda.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/78%20-%20Someday%20the%20Dream%20Will%20End.mp3)
A more relaxing theme, but really a worthy competitor, no surprise for it to make it this far as it’s one of the greatest tracks on the OST.
I think of the top four left I’ll be voting for Decisive Battle all the way.
Someday the Dream Will End
I’m actually quite half surprised, as much as I like StDWE.
Anyway, that’s one finalist! Decisive Battle still has a shot at the bronze…
Time to determine the other finalist…
Semifinals – Battle 2
Sight of Spira – Listen Here (http://lamda.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/19%20-%20The%20Sight%20of%20Spira.mp3)
A happy little theme played in towns and villages. It’ll be quite interesting if it joins Someday the Dream Will End in the final battle, since it’s the same tune on guitar (or mandolin or some other string), to a happier and more calm and cheerful less depressing/emotional mood.
VS.
Normal Battle – Listen Here (http://lamda.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/09%20-%20Normal%20Battle.mp3)
An awesome battle theme, truly deserving of making it this far. I had no idea it was this well liked… will it be in the top two?
Oh, and my vote goes to Normal Battle by a land slide. I don’t even like Sight of Spira, and coincidentally every theme that it beat in the last rounds I hated to see go. As a matter of fact, now that Decisive Battle is gone, out of what’s left I’d like to see Normal Battle take the platinum/gold.
I like sight of spira. But this battle theme is great. Actually, in most FFs, after the 2 or 3 hundredth time of the screen shattering, fading or blurring into the music as a battle commences, I start to get bored with the same song. I never did with X.
An excellent battle theme.
And the Normal Battle theme makes the final!! (Sorry for lack of updates… but then again it is the semis)
Sight Of Spira… who would have thought it would make it this far.
But first, we must determine 3rd and 4th place!
Battle for the Bronze (3rd place)
Sight of Spira – Listen Here (http://lamda.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/19%20-%20The%20Sight%20of%20Spira.mp3)
The village theme which uses a running tune in this game, that one of our finalists shares! It would have been interesting to see those two against each other… but oh well. Third place material?
VS.
Decisive Battle – Listen Here (http://lamda.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/88%20-%20Decisive%20Battle.mp3)
One of the more epic battle themes of this game which unfortunately is for one that doesn’t last long, which is probably why it was beaten by Someday the Dream Will End. But surely it should go into third place?
If Decisive Battle doesn’t win this I will lose faith in humanity.
Don’t get me wrong, though, I think they’re both great tracks.
I really hate doing this THIS late, especially on one of the deciding battles to end this, but it looks like we’ve got a tie. It must be broken… I waited long enough.
ROKI, if you’re around you get to decide who gets the dubious 3rd place award.
I really hate doing this THIS late, especially on one of the deciding battles to end this, but it looks like we’ve got a tie. It must be broken… I waited long enough.
ROKI, if you’re around you get to decide who gets the dubious 3rd place award.
Even though my vote doesn’t count in this, do you people hear the instrumentals in Decisive Battle?? It’s amazing!!! I love it, it’s the clear winner in my book.
I guess he either must not get notified or is ignoring me. If I don’t here from him by the end of the day, I’m calling a win for Decisive Battle.
I look for anyone who I know is an active participate and hasn’t voted yet. But active participant I mean a name that I see a lot and preferably voted in the last couple rounds so I know they’re recently active. Or just a name I’ve seen active here a lot in the past and I know they’re still around based on last activity. Whoever the first is that comes to mind, usually by elimination of who already voted.
Though, I don’t believe I’ve ever called on the same person twice. And I always PM them.
A well deserved win IMO, but if it were up to me it could have won the whole rumble out of what’s left. But, good for it for making it this far…
Alright… at LONG LAST… now it’s time for the…
FINAL BATTLE
Someday the Dream Will End – Listen here (http://lamda.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/78%20-%20Someday%20the%20Dream%20Will%20End.mp3)
I guess I’m not surprised that this theme made it far, it is definitely a favorite. It’s played during all those emotional scenes that perhaps a kleenex is in order when listening to it. Especially the beginning… but anyway, will it be the winner?
VS.
Normal Battle – Listen Here (http://lamda.bluelaguna.net/ffxmusic/09%20-%20Normal%20Battle.mp3)
Ah yes, the awesome regular battle theme of this game made it to the top. Not too surprising considering this is one of the few games where the normal battle music is actually better than the boss music. Can it beat STDWE?
I’ll throw one it for Normal Battle…
i love the feel of this track it’s so powerful and yet smooth ๐ Ah my heart, i love FF… woo the win for Decisive Battle!!
Though, I don’t believe I’ve ever called on the same person twice. And I always PM them.
Thats the same format as I decided mine if you remember agent, Except I randomly pm’ed someone who had voted and gave them the final choice.
SOMEDAY THE DREAM WILL END!!
Even though I didn’t vote for it, I do agree that it was well deserved.
Whew, that was long… mainly due to that break/hiatus.
Someone else can take this one now, I only have time to run one rumble, I direct all your attention to the X-2 rumble!
lol
Good work, Zak. I enjoyed this rumble.
Hey, maybe I’ll do quotes if it’s BATTLE quotes… that’d be something.
I really enjoyed doing this, by the way.
separate it into character themes, area music, and battle music
Or do I even need to ask… for now I think I will, since no one else is doing it. Also, since no one else nominated a category months back, I will choose. I’ll be doing Monsters. As in, monster species, not every monster.
I’ll start this shortly as soon as I get a little attention.
I’ve been debating whether to include species that appear only as bosses, but for multiples… like Spheremorph/GreaterSphere, SanctuaryKeeper/Thu’ban, etc. and I decided I won’t. However, anything that is randomly encounterable, even if there is a boss form of it, I will include it.
I’ll get rid of the Guados, Monks, and three types of Machina, since they aren’t really monsters.
So there. 40. I’ll commence round 1 very shortly.
Round 1 – Battle 1
Plants
The species responsible for helping Kimahri learn his first Blue Magic (err… Ronso Rage), Seed Cannon, that being the Ragora in Kilika Woods. Gagazet has the Grats which are stronger and can confuse with Seed Burst as well, and there’s also the boss-versions of them in Bikanel, the Sandragoras which guard some great treasure!
VS.
Drakes
The mini-dragon sort of monsters, consisting of elemental breaths. You’re first introduced to the Vouivre in the Luca Stadium chaos when you first get Auron back in his tutorial. Later there’s the Lamashtu, Kusariqqu, and Mushussu, each breath Ice, Thunder, and Fire, and finally the Nidhogg who’s also Fire elemental but stronger. The REAL challenge is the arena mutant, Fafnir. It seems that the "Fafnir" in every game is always a bitch to beat.
Vote away!
Drakes 7-0 Plants
Clearly anything dragon would be better than a little plant, even if it has Blue Magic…
Now it seems we have some stand-alones…
Round 1 – Battle 2
Adamantoise
This giant creature is actually a standalone in this game (in X-2 it isn’t), but it’s pretty big and has huge defenses. It’s found inside Sin, and in some places in the Omega Ruins. You wanna make sure you’ve got Armor Break and Mental Break ready, that shell is a doozy. Other than attacking, it creates an Earthquake sometimes, as well as a Fire elemental "Breath" attack.
VS.
Magic Urn
This enemy is unique, as you don’t kill it, but instead play a luck game with it. The mechanics behind it are still a mystery. Basically, you get to randomly choose an eye, and it’s either right or wrong, and if it’s right, you win prizes. Otherwise, you better move out of the way! It can also be killed with Zanmato and Doom, for those who didn’t know.
The Magic Urns are unique, but their function in this game just doesn’t do it. And so the Adamantoise crushes…
Round 1 – Battle 3
Bombs
Ah, the bombs. They’ve been around for a while, if you hit them too many times, get out of the way! However, in this game, the Self Destruct of the Bomb is also a Blue Magic! There’s the basic Bombs in Mi’hen (and summoned by Guados in Home), then their more powerful Grenades on the mountain, and finally deep in the Omega Ruins are the Puroburos, who you don’t want to mess with. If you’re daring, take on the Bomb King in the arena! Instead of blowing up, it uses ULTIMA!
VS.
Worms
You know those giant worms in the desert? All I can say is it’s funny to Shooting-Star/Eject them. Their two tricks are Earthquakes (which they warn you in advance) and swallowing and regurgitating you. The Sand Worm in the desert is actually the only one that can be captured, as the Land Worm in inside Sin past the point of no return, and the Abyss Worm is the arena monster!
Bombs may have the Blue Mags, but Worms are far more entertaining.
Again, Blue Magic isn’t everything. This time the Worms with their size and abilities manage to pull it off.
Now, we have some more competition…
Round 1 – Battle 4
Ogres
These furry creatures are mostly good with Physical attacks only, but you better not let them put up their dukes! There’s the original one in Calm Lands and it’s more powerful cousin the Bashura on the mountain. However, you fight a boss version of it before meeting either– the Wendigo, who’s Berserk status makes it no pushover. But the real menace is Kottos, the arena mutant of it. Better have high defenses when fighting these!
VS.
Iron Giants
You may recognize these collosuses from some earlier games, but they can be pretty threatening here. Especially with that Reaper attack, you’re gonna wanna blind it. Their Armor is no pushover either. You first see them in Thunder Plains, but once inside Sin you’ll find them in pairs, as Gemini. Not only can they combine and double-reap, but they absorb different elements and must both be captured seperately. Speaking of capturing, watch out for the Ironclad in the arena! He’s the one with a set of three attacks with weird Japanese names…
They seem fairly even, but I don’t see any reason for me to vote for Ogre over Iron Giant.
Iron Giants 7-0 Ogres
The Iron Giants reap the hell out of the Ogres, it seems.
Round 1 – Battle 5
Ochus
Those Ochu’s have been around for quite a while now… In this game, their "Ochu Dance" causes silence, blind, slow, AND confuse! Also, any strike from them is bound to poison you… aside from the Ochu’s on the Moonflow, their cousin the Mandragora from Gagazet Cave can cause an Earthquake! But before you meet either, you can take a shot at the Lord Ochu BOSS in Kilika Woods. Although it can’t dance, it can do a lot of other tricks…
VS.
Piranhas
These are one of the few enemies that their sprite is in X but NOT in X-2. This is a water-only creature, meaning only Tidus, Rikku, and Wakka can encounter it. They may seem boring, but I wouldn’t underestimate them. The Piranhas from the Submerged Ruins that appear it groups of 1 or 3 may be nothing (though they can blind), but the Splashers from Mt. Gagazet have a poisonous bite, and if they’re alone they may self destruct!
Ochus 7-3 Piranhas
Good to see some appreciation for Piranhas, but Ochus dominate on this one.
Round 1 – Battle 6
Dinofish
Another aquatic fiend, only fought by our swimmers. The game has only two, the Remora in the Via Purifico, and the Maelspike in mountain cave. These are some more powerful water monsters, if you attack them enough they might use Maelstrom so watch out!
VS.
Flans
One of the more FF-universal fiends, and in this game they’re there to represent every element. There’s a total of eight of them in the game, and the Dark Flan, as well as use some non-elemental magic, can help Kimahri learn White Wind! Watch out for the Arena’s Jumbo Flan, it can use every element and ULTIMA!
Flans seem to have a blowout victory here, being classic and all.
Next battle should be an exciting matchup…
Round 1 – Battle 7
Behemoths
Another classic monster of this franchise… even though the Behemoths don’t use it, Kimahri can learn Mighty Guard from them. The Behemoth KINGS, however, may use it. In this game they use Thunder magic, and have a strong heave to watch out for. The king, however, can attack with his tail as well, and also has one other trick up it’s sleeve when you kill it– Meteor! Better be prepared when you hit the finishing blow. Catoblepas from the arena’s another story, you’ll need Auto-Life to survive that Ultima…
VS.
Chimeras
Another big monster, also with Blue Magic– Aqua Breath! These weird creatures have four heads, each of which have a different element attack: The snake uses Thunder magic, the hawk uses Aqua Breath, the lion uses Megiddo Flame, and the bull just physically attacks! There’s also the more powerful Chimera Brain, and be careful with the Chimerageist from the arena!
because of flight for me.
Behemoths 4-3 Chimeras
Close battle… these two really kept taking turns being in the lead, but this time it was the Behemoths that emerged victorious. This battle probably would have been more interesting later in the rumble, but oh well.
Round 1 – Battle 8
Evil Eyes
Very common species of enemy, those one-eyed bat things. All of them but the Floating Eye have the Gaze Attack which may cause confusion, but some stronger species like the Floating Death or Ahriman have some ultrasonic waves which can hurt the whole party pretty bad. One-Eye from the arena is also no pushover.
VS.
Lupines
Another very common species, the dogs. Probably one of the first ones you meet in Besaid. There’s a lot of these guys, not gonna list them, but the only thing really special about them is that they have a chance of causing sleep and silence, and mostly have weaknesses to a combination of fire and another element. Fenrir from the Arena, however, makes these guys seem tough with it’s fangs.
The battle of the commoners, the dogs emerge victorious. The bats just aren’t that appealing it seems.
Round 1 – Battle 9
Malboros
CLASSIC enemy, that’s for sure. This freaky tentacle thing is mostly famous for its Bad Breath, which inflicts a ton of statuses, in this case 6: Silence, Darkness, Slow, Confusion, Berserk, and Poison. Usually it’s learnable as a Blue Magic, as it is in this game. Gastric Juice is also a defense-ignoring threat. Watch out for the Great Malboro who almost always will ambush you and screw you over with Bad Breath, and then you’ll have to deal with two other attacks, Chow Time and Stacatto which both ignore defense. The Malboro Menace from the arena is even stronger, and just has stronger versions of all those attacks. The name "Malboro" most likely comes from the cigarette company Marlboro, hence the "Bad Breath"…
VS.
Sahagins
For those who don’t know, these are those water-mantis things. A fun fact about these is that while they were made into a regular in X-2, while there are three types of Sahagin in this game, they all happen to be fought in different special events or places you only visit once, making none of them capturable. There’s the water Sahagins in Baaj Temple and Via Purifico, as well as the land Sahagins in Via Purifico which may squirt you. There’s also the two Sahagin chiefs, which are only ever encountered during the Luca Blitzball Stadium invasion event. Weak to Lightning.
My vote goes to Malboros. Classic. Also I’m not sure if the cigarette thing is true, I just thought of that connection myself, but I wouldn’t doubt it.
Malboros 6-0 Sahagins
Malboros are way too classic and cool to lose. Sahagins bit it hard.
Round 1 – Battle 10
Imps
These guys are Wakka’s forte, because they’re aerial and hard to hit. You know, the fancy wings… well, their only power is Thunder magic, each of the three imps use a different level of it. Gandarewas use Thunder, Aerouges Thundara, and Imps Thundaga. Even the Arena’s Vidatu is not much of a threat, probably the easiest arena boss to beat, even though it uses Osmose and Ultima.
VS.
Helms
And we have here another commoner, these guys have a hard shell and are best for Auron or anyone with Piercing. There’s a whole seven of them plus the Tanket in the arena. They each have a different combination of elemental weaknesses, and they mostly just attack, but they all have a small chance of making you Slow!
Imps are my preference.
Helms 6-3 Imps
A decent battle for once, and it looks like the Imps will be biting it early. Helms, though common, have a leg on them… anyway, we’re now halfway through the first round.
Time for an exotic battle you’ll probably hate to see this early, but who knows…
Round 1 – Battle 11
Cactuars
Here’s a classic monster, who always seems to have a gimmick in some game, either a side quest, a lot of money, or a lot of AP… in this case it’s the AP, and their classic signature move is 1000 Needles, which deals a fixed 1000 damage, and is sometimes a Blue Magic (though not in this game). They’ve got two side missions in this game: The 10 Cactuars in the desert, and the Cactuar Stones in Thunder Plains. There’s also three kinds in the game: The "Qactuars" which are weak wannabes in the Thunder Plains, but the real Cactuars in the desert actually deal 10000 needles! The Cactuar King from the arena may do 99999! They’re also very agile and can run away, all that AP down the drain.
"Needles? I hate Needles!" – Rikku.
VS.
Tonberries
ANOTHER classic monster who usually has a fixed gimmick, what’s known in most games as "Everyone’s Grudge", has changed to "Karma". These lizards with lanturns and a Chef’s Kinfe slowly creep towards you and then slash you. That Karma thing damages based on how many enemies the character has killed. They also now have "Voodoo" which is a fixed 10000 damage, but for the Don in the arena 99999! So basically that move is a Cactuar knockoff. In Spira, they’re first seen in the Stolen Fayth Cavern, and their Master is in the Omega Ruins. Did I mention they have a lot of HP?
Now comes the hard part… choosing between them. I think I’ll sit this one out… I might change my mind later.
….
..
Tonberries
Cactuars
What’s the "Don" trick, Agent?
Good battle, it sucks to see one of them go, but in this case it looks like the cacti will overpower the creepy lizards. I have a feeling they’re gonna last a while…
Round 1 – Battle 12
Fungi
The little mushroom things with the leaves… make sure you have Esuna handy when fighting them. There’s three of them which each use a different level of Fire magic (which is ironic as they’re vulnerable to fire), and their Pollen may induce statuses! Depending on the level you’re fighting it does more statuses, the Funguar will do just sleep, the Thorn does that plus Darkness, and the Exoray will add Silence to those two! Also be wary when fighting the Sleep Sprout in the arena, its "Goodnight" can cast a LOT of statuses and it has every powerful magic!
VS.
Ruminants
Not expecting everyone to know by name what these are, but these are the big creatures with the horn, some of which Kimahri can learn Fire Breath from! Though the monsters themselves don’t use it directly, instead they use an attack called "Flame Ball" which they charge up for (Except the Dual Horn). The Arena’s Juggernaut does a more powerful version of this called "Salvo".
What’ll it be?
It seems the Ruminants won, mostly out of hate for Fungi… we’ll see how good they do later!
Round 1 – Battle 13
Wasps
Yeah… the common insects, mostly known as "Bite Bugs" in earlier games. All four of them only attack and may poison you, and all are weak to Ice. However, they’re pretty agile, and, as a normal insect, hard to hit without an aimer like Wakka! However, the mutant Hornet from the arena is different and has an array of attacks that cause various statuses! Think fast!
VS.
Coeurls
Another monster that at some point became classic-y. Those tiger/leopard/cat things with the whiskers, their powers always vary and they can do pretty weird things. In this game they use lightning and ice magic, as well as some status effects (mostly silence) and an attack called Blaster, which causes petrification or instant death, depending on who used it. Coeurlregina’s Hyper Blaster can IGNORE Deathproof!
Coeurls are way cooler I think.
it was funny when they cast their weird spell things, and had auron retaliate on them for a one-hit kill
MUCH closer battle than I had expected, but the big creepy cats end up squashing the bugs.
Didn’t know about the fondness for wasps…
Round 1 – Battle 14
Armors
A species that you don’t meet until very late in the game, seeing as there are only two, the Barbatos you meet inside Sin, and it’s mutated for Vorban from the arena. God knows how many layers of armor these things have, Armor Break is a must if you mess with one of these! For those who don’t know by name, they are the huge armor things that like to Body Splash. They may open their shell and cast Mortar at you, but yeah… Armor Break should tide you over, but Vorban from the arena is another story, took me a day to figure out how to beat. It does the same thing, but it’s much faster you’ll need constant Auto Life. No surprise he’s the last area conquest. They had a bit more fun with these guys in X-2… but that’s another matter.
VS.
Reptiles
Fair comparison, eh? Well, seeing as these are everything the Armors are not. Common, weak, have a lot of monsters in their species (9 I believe, which is the most packed for any this game. Some have 8, but Reptiles are the only one that have as many as 9). Seeing as there’s the most of these lizards, it’s kinda funny that they’re against the armors. Like most commoners, while they’re all weak against Ice, they’re all strong against a random combo of the other three elements. They’re also like the dogs, no real special power, except attacking with a small chance of either causing petrification or silence. EXCEPT, as always, for the arena’s Ornitholestes. It’s got a whole different array of powers and statuses like Poison Touch, etc.
So it seems like since they’re so different, the vote will be based on preference and no one should have trouble deciding. Heh, it’ll either be which is cooler or which pissed you off less, or whatever… basically, my point is, I’ll probably see votes from both sides but I don’t expect anyone to have trouble deciding ๐
For me, Armors.
At least it shouldn’t be a hard choice for whoever the tie breaker is… now it’s A Little Bit Dramatic’s turn.
Round 1 – Battle 15
Elementals
Another popular enemy that seems to serve the same purpose as flans, there’s a whole variety of them of many colors, each representing a different element, and have a thick armor against physical attacks. Red for fire, Blue for water, White for ice, Yellow and Gold for lightning, Dark for every element/reflect, and finally Black for Arcane-ish magic like Flare/Demi/Berserk. Oh, and the Nega in the Arena, which is like the Dark Element on steroids.
VS.
Cephalopods
You’re probably wondering "what the hell is this"? These are the octopus-jellyfish things with the tentacles. The reason you might have trouble remembering, is because there are only two in this game: The Octopus, and the boss "Tros" from the sunken ship at the beginning. What and where is the octopus, you ask? It’s that thing with the tentacles encountered only in Via Purifico occasionally, if you may remember. As for their power, their tentacles may slow you down… but anyway, you’re more likely to remember this guy if you’ve played X-2, even though it’s only one of a kind there. But you better not forget the battle with Tros! Nautilus Charge… yeah.
Elements for me, but I like the Cephs.
lol woops
Cephalowhatevers
Elementals 8-1 Cephalopods
It makes sense that something consisting of only a boss and a monster you encounter in a temporary area wouldn’t make it, let alone against something as classy as Elementals.
But let’s move on…
Round 1 – Battle 16
Mimic
A very special enemy encountered in the Omega Ruins, but you are only forced to fight it if you open the chest that it’s posing as. But they do give a lot of money if you beat them, and while they appear as scraps, they take four different forms: Ruminant, Mech, Winged Beast, or Basilisk. But beware, they’re extremely powerful… and only worth fighting if you want to be a gillionaire. They don’t even need to be captured or anything.
VS.
Basilisks
The three-headed petrifying snake things, them being the Basilisk and the Anacondaur. The third head is the one you wanna watch out for, as it can petrify you with Stone Gaze. The Anacondaur also hits with it’s Sonic Tail, and the arena’s Jormungand’s Cold Stare IGNORES immunity to Petrification (I might be wrong about that, I know Chac from X-2 does). These things also carry a Blue Magic for Kimahri: Stone Breath, though they never directly use it.
Once again, a really close and fair battle, but the Basilisks, being more mainstream, seem to have it. The Blue Magic might have helped too.
Round 1 – Battle 17
Blades
These are the big metal scorpion-like creatures with the pointy legs and tail, like Klikk which you fight at the beginning with Rikku as somewhat of a boss in Baaj. The early ones just attack, but later in the game, monsters like Epaaj or Machea’s attack may inflict Poison, as well as attack with their blade. Espada from the arena, it’s attack inflicts death as well! Don’t be fooled into thinking you need better defense, that won’t help you for attacks that treat "death" as a status.
VS.
Revenants
You might prefer to call them "Ghosts". There’s just the Ghost and the Wraith, no arena monster this time, but there doesn’t need to be one. This is the thing that uses Doom at the beginning of every battle, and the way for Kimahri to learn it. It also uses magic of every element, and it’s elemental weakness changes every battle. The Wraith may cast Death if no one’s doomed, so watch out!
I’m a go with the Revenants.
Also, I’d like to humbly ask everyone to check out the Video Game Music Rumble (Thread 66118) and please vote!
Great battle… but although the Revenants had a head start in the beginning, the Blades manage to keep up and overtake them.
Round 1 – Battle 18
Spellspinners
What are these you ask? Again… much like the armors, there’s only two of them, one late in the game and one in the Arena. The monsters in question are the Varunas from the Omega Ruins, the big blue dragon things that use Haste at the beginning of every battle. They can use just about every powerful magic as well as a few status effects, but their "Pharoah’s Curse" will give you FOUR status effects at once! Also they’ve got a countdown attack known as "Emblem of Fate" which you probably wouldn’t want to be in the way of. Once you’ve mastered these, try taking on Abaddon in the arena, which are these guys on steroids with "Emblem of the Cosmos". Again, they had a little more fun with these guys in X-2.
VS.
Larvae
These are the big emblem things surrounded by mist. The Larva and Maze Larva absorb both Lightning and Water and use a lot of elemental magic, so better have Silence handy. The Spirit in the Omega Ruins is like an alternative for an arena version of this: Uses and absorbs every magic, and may cast White Wind on itself (Kimahri can’t learn it, though)!
Spellspinners are my way to go.
….Or maybe even Lavos? ~_^
(Also my vote goes to Larvae in case you didn’t notice :))
Great battle, but the Larvae are beaten bad by the Spellspinnae… err, Spellspinners.
We’re almost done here…
Round 1 – Battle 19
Doomstone(s)
The reason for the parenthesis, is because actually in this game there’s only one of them: The Demonolith. This is another monster that they had a lot more fun and utilized to the full potential in X-2 as there were many of them, but for now we just have the Demonoliths to go on.
These guys are also towards the end, just the Omega Ruins and Sin, and also have Pharaoh’s Curse, which does the same four statuses. But make sure you have something against Stone, because their Breath will attempt to petrify everyone at once! Kimahri’s Lancet can indeed detect that as Stone Breath and learn it.
VS.
Rocs
These are the giant birds with a lot of HP. You get introduced to them pretty early, like the Garuda in the Besaid tutorial which Wakka demonstrates how to blind and Yuna demonstrates how to defend with Valefor, and also in Luca Stadium’s chaos, and finally permanently on Mushroom Rock. But while this thing only does Sonic Boom, it’s cousin the Zu from the Desert, it can do way more (and also has a forced fight!). Like, land on the ground, which is good because no more Sonic boom… Stratoavis from the Arena is like a more powerful version of the Zu, with Sonic Boom replaced by "Paean of the Heavens".
I gotta go with Doomstones (might as well say "Demonoliths", but Doomstones is the official name of the class once it becomes one in X-2).
Dramatic, I’m gonna give you another chance.
Put my vote in for Rocs.
So a victory for the Rocs! A little bit of a surprise considering the Doomstones were ahead for a while, but the Rocs swooped down for a comeback!
And now… the last battle of this round:
Round 1 – Battle 20
Birds
Another really basic monster, and one of the first ones you see, in Besaid. Also one of them has one of the littlest amount of HP. They’re pretty easy to kill, especially if you’re Wakka. There’s three of them, and they do get faster as you go along, especially the Alcyones in the desert. Still, they only just attack, with a small chance of blinding, except for the pathetic Condor. This species does, however, slightly get to shine in the arena, as Pteryx. That thing’s a piece of work, being really fast and able to Curse and Delay with various beak attacks, so be prepared!
VS.
Haizhes
Weird word that probably needs explaining… I don’t even know if it’s a real word, it’s just the name of the class given to these things in X-2 when classes started being labeled. As for what they are, they’re the aquatic little glowing sparkly things with the spiky fins, that charge three turns and then unleash a Sonic Wave, which hits everyone, and they’re also really weak to Lightning as are most aquatic fiends. If you still don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s the Phlegyas in Via Purifico and the Achelous in Gagazet cave.
I quite like the Haizhes, they get my vote. Like most monsters, they had more fun with them in X-2, that’s for sure… I believe they had a Blue Magic you had to confuse them to learn.
So the birds slaughter… well, they did have the advantage as one of the first enemies you see.
That concludes the first round! Round 2 will be set up shortly. And as usual, unlike most rumbles I will not tell the pairings in advance. ๐
Round 2 – Battle 1
Flans
The blobs that are a longtime member of the franchise, except in this game they specifically serve the purpose of representing every element. The Dark one doesn’t really have an Element, but it does have Kimahri’s White Wind…
They made pudding out of the Dinofish in the last round.
VS.
Ochus
Malboro-lites, as they have been called before. The Ochus also been around for a while, doing their dance. In this game they can be especially annoying with status effects, especially the Lord Ochu boss. They ripped the Piranhas in the last round.
Flans once again make pudding out of the Ochus, and make the top 10!
Round 2 – Battle 2
Elementals
This is like an alternative to the Flans who just won. The beat the Cephalopods (octopi) in the last round… dunno if that says much, but will they join the Flans in the top 10?
VS.
Spellspinners
Just reminding, these are the Varunas in the Omega Ruins… besides the arena’s Abaddon, they’re the only one. You know, the blue dragons that use Haste at the beginning of every battle and have pretty wacky skills along with a lot of magic. The Larvae were their unlucky victim in the last round… how will Elementals compare to that?
I’m going with Spellspinners even though they might lose. Could be wrong though…
Elementals 6-2 Spellspinners
Elementals are understandably popular, in fact the power of them all combined is just enough to beat the Spellspinners!
Next it looks like we have a battle of hard shells…
Round 2 – Battle 3
Helms
These little hard round creatures are pretty common throughout Spira. There are many different species of them, in fact, one of the most variety in the game. But certain strong ones can show their true power, and they’ve got a hard shell… managed to beat the Imps in the last round.
VS.
Armors
Well, unlike the Helms these are pretty rare as there is only one in Spira other than the arena-created being. In fact, they’re only inside Sin, and I guess Sin must have spit them out all over Spira at some point before X-2 as it is crawling with them. But they do have one thing in common with the helms: An extra-hard shell, probably harder though. These two may have armor, but how far can they break. The Armors were nearly beaten by the reptiles last round due to commonality, and because they just made it, should be interesting to see how they do against the Helms.
I will choose Armors I guess…
I leave it up to Slavka to break it.
Round 2 – Battle 4
Drakes
Another expansive species group, with varying elements. Not to mention they also have somewhat of a hard shell… and they were the first to win in the last round, against plants.
VS.
Cactuars
Looks like again they’ll be facing a plant, but it may be a more formidable opponent, because the Cactuars truly are something classic and special, and in this game they have their very own sidequest. Two sidequests, actually, if you count the thing in Thunder Plains. They just so happened to be placed against Tonberries in the last round which were fair competition, let’s see how Drakes compare…
Guess I’ll be going with Cactuars…
Cactuars 6-0 Drakes
Drakes may have gotten to shine at the beginning here, but this time they had the bad luck of being up against a titan. Cactuars move forward yet again, this time more efficiently.
Round 2 – Battle 5
Iron Giants
Rappageki… these things beat the Ogres in a blowout last round, since the Ogres, well… weren’t that interesting. Iron Giants are pretty classic, have been around since the beginning of PS1 Generation (at least?). They had some fun with them in this game by making one into a "Gemini" which appear in pairs, each with different powers and carrying a different weapon, and recognized as two seperate monsters by the Arena-master, as in, you much capture them both to complete.
VS.
Birds
One of the first things you see in the game, but one of the last to show up in this rumble. That’s right, they beat the Haizhe’s in the very last battle in the last round. How will they do against the Ironclads?
This is an easy one for me. Iron Giants.
Iron Giants are pretty classic, have been around since the beginning of PS1 Generation (at least?).
A lot longer than that. The FF Wiki (http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Iron_Giant) says since Final Fantasy II.
The Ironclads make chicken out of the birds. At least this shows the Birds’ last win wasn’t a ‘lesser of the two evils’ case.
Halfway through round 2. And…
Round 2 – Battle 6
Worms
Those giant desert worms which shake the earth as well as swallow and spit you out. The Bombs were their last meal… can they handle what’s coming?
VS.
Coeurls
Those giant Blaster magic-using cats. They blasted the Wasps in the last round… can they outdo the Worms?
The Worms emerge victorious, but they really eat the Coeurls alive. Those poor cats got shafted really bad…
Round 2 – Battle 7
Adamant(oise)s
Adamants is the proper class name, but there’s only really one: The earth-shaking Adamantoise. It’s got a hard shell! It endured the Magic Urn blast in the last round… let’s see how tough its opponent is.
VS.
Behemoths
Defeated the Chimeras in the last round in a really close battle. Also huge like the Adamantoise and has a lot of secrets, like the Blue Magic, Mighty Guard! The King is no pushover either, it’s got it’s top secret final attack, Meteor! Though, Meteor as a final attack has been a Behemoth gimmick for a while…
Behemoths get my vote. Adamantoises are cool and all, there’s just not that many interesting things about it to me though…
So much for the Adamants’ last battle being a wipeout… against the Behemoths, they’re weak like a bug.
Round 2 – Battle 8
Lupines
The dogs again! These are very common and probably the second most populated class after Reptiles. They gouged out the Evil Eyes in the last round, a fellow commoner. But this time their opponent is not so common, so we’ll see what to make of that…
VS.
Rocs
Just reminding, these are the giant bird things, all we have to play with are the Garuda and the Zu from the desert, and their arena mutation. They’re still something, they just barely beat the Doomstones in the last round after a tie break, let’s see how they compare to the Lupines.
FF X’s monsters sucked.
Good battle, but again, these are also almost the antitheses of each other, so perfect competition, small common, or big rare. Big rare took it this time, moving the Rocs forward. Another commoner down…
Round 2 – Battle 9
Blades
Just a reminder since the name isn’t specific enough, these are the big scorpion things who’s normal attack may poison you often. Like the mini-boss Klikk from the very beginning with Rikku, or the Epaaj, etc. They did a good job chopping up the Revenants/Ghosts in the last round, but we’ll see if they can slice their way through what they’re up against now…
VS.
Malboros
Classic creature alert. I would hope that by now you know what a Malboro is, and it needs no introduction. Also I found out that the cigarette thing I mentioned about it in the last round is true! Yeah… their Bad Breath is almost always learnable, and not really anything new to say about it that I didn’t say in the last round except for the fact that their latest meal were the Sahagins.
Not that marlboros wouldn’t win anyways…
Malboros 6-0 Blades
The second blowout in a row for Malboros! I think this is looking to be a dark horse contender…
Alright, last battle of Round 2!
Round 2 – Battle 10
Ruminants
Another big word here, these are the big things with the horns from which Kimahri can learn Fire Breath (though they never actually use an attack called that). They mauled the hell out of the Fungi in the last round…
VS.
Basilisks
Another Blue Magic user… err, carrier. The petrifying three-headed snakes… while they were hella utilized in X-2, here they’re also something, as they carry Stone Breath. In a close battle they actually beat the Mimics in the last round, so I guess that’s saying something…
My last vote this round will be for Basilisks. I got tired of seeing Ruminants fast.
That’s it for the Ruminants, it seems! Basilisks slaughter and are the last to join the top 10 who will be in Round 3.
Round 3 will begin soon!
Round 3 – Battle 1
Basilisk
How about that… no rest for the Basilisk, it just won the last battle of the last round against the Ruminants, but it doesn’t look like it’ll be waiting it’s turn very long. So far the Ruminants and the Mimics have stood in it’s way, but they went down pretty easily. Does the snake have what it takes for the top five?
VS.
Behemoths
Figures a lot of Blue Magic holders would make it this far, as both the Behemoths and the Basilisks are, but I’m sure there’s a lot more reason for their victory. Then again, their battle with the Chimeras (also Blue Mages) was quite close, but the Behemoth also crushed the Adamantoise to smithereens. So which will it be for the top five?
I like the snakes, but Behemoths are more top five material.
Behemoths 5-1 Basilisks
That’s it for the Basilisks… they’re just no match for the Behemoths, who have earned themselves a spot in the top 5!
Round 3 – Battle 2
Cactuars
Naturally these guys would sweep, because Cactuars are just awesome, but while the Drakes were a breeze, they barely survived against the Tonberries… could they have any more competition?
VS.
Flans
Not sure how this pudding is compared to Cactuars, but I do know that’s it’s been quite a powerhouse, both of it’s battles against the Dinofish and the Ochu were blowouts… well, the latter actually may have gotten one vote, but so far them being classic has helped them, how will that do against the Cactuars? Especially when in this game they’ve been utilized greatly, the Flans.
What do ya say, no love for the Flans… so much for their blowout streak, they’ve met a lot more than their match, Cactuars seem to have something special about them, as they just blew out someone that was on a blowout streak. Well, they’ve earned themselves a spot in the top 5.
Round 3 – Battle 3
Rocs
Well, unlike the last few competitors, these guys’ last battles have been more balanced. These giant birds so far wiped out the Lupines and the Doomstones/Demonolith in fair battles, can they swoop their way into the top 5?
VS.
Worms
How’s that for irony, birds vs. worms. Well, oversized desert worms, that can swallow anyone alive and regurgitate them out. Did I mention they’re really fun to Shooting Star? These things’ meals so far have been Bombs and Coeurls…. will the early worm get the bird?
Now, Rocs are awesome and all, but Worms are just too funny and they get my vote.
Someone has to join the top five and the active participant who hasn’t voted in this round that was most recently active will decide. I’m looking at you, Olde.
EDIT: Hah, I just realized Olde did the tie break last round which helped the Rocs win… so funny, heh, we’ll see what happens.
And after a long grueling battle, the Rocs have finally met their match, and it looks like the worm gets the bird this time! That also earns the Worms a place in the top 5!
But we still have to figure out who the other two are.
Round 3 – Battle 4
Helms
Impressive for a commoner to have made it this far. These small hard-shelled crawlers have taken down the Imps, as well as their daddy the Armors! There must be something about them… will they earn themselves a spot in the top 5?
VS.
Elementals
An alternative to the Flans of this game, which just suffered a rough beating. But these odd magic-using entities have nearly wiped out both the Cephalopods/Octopi and their magic-using cousin the Spellspinners! Top five maybe?
I’ve been voting against them for the last few rounds but I will go with Elementals.
Elementals are just too interesting and mysterious, and although they’ve got a hard shell like the Helms, their magic ends it for them. So here’s to Elementals joining the top 5!
Last battle of this round…
Round 3 – Battle 5
Malboros
The good old Malboros… they certainly qualify as a dark horse competitor, seeing as they’re the only ones who have had two blowouts in a row, and fast. Not a single vote has been cast against them in the last two rounds! The Sahagins and the Blades were but a bump in their path. Let’s see if they’ll make the top 5, better yet with that streak.
VS.
Iron Giants
Competition for the Malboros? Perhaps. These giant ironclads did have one blowout against the mighty Ogres, and they also took down the Birds. Well, they did have a little fun with them in this game, that’s a given. Top 5? Can they beat the Malboros?
I’m gonna hold off on my vote for now.
Anyway, it’s been two days… anyone else gonna vote? I would have given it longer anyway since it’s the quarterfinals, but I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that this lack of votes is because no one can decide. It’s okay, I haven’t either. Well… actually it’s not okay ๐
Anyway, leaving this open for another day or two.
Damn, I hate those things…
Malboros 4-2 Iron Giants
Although it’s the end of the Malboro’s blowout streak, another fair victory for them, although the Iron Giants did manage to leave a few marks.
So now we have a top five. The fairest way to continue, as I have done before, is out of a list of those top five, you shall choose one which you want to eliminate
So, which of the following do you think don’t deserve to be in the finals:
Behemoths
Cactuars
Elementals
Malboros
Worms
My contribution to this will be later, IF at all.
Being immune to one type of magic is not cool.
Semifinals shall follow shortly.
Semifinals – Part 1
Behemoths
These beasts have been a classic element in the games, and they’re pretty big and strong, and here they are in the top 4. How will this turn out…
VS.
Cactuars
These plants are probably the smallest of the four finalists… placed against a Behemoth. They may be small, but there’s something about them, they’re like this rumble’s kryptonite. Behemoths may be big, but who knows how they’d take to needles.
Fight!
Cactuars 6-0 Behemoths
Cactuars are special and had something going for them from the beginning. Lo and behold, they’re now a finalist! Behemoths still have a chance at third place, didn’t expect them to be creamed like this.
Semifinals – Part 2
Malboros
Another classic creature like the Cactuars. They have indeed been around for a very long time, as has their pain-in-the-ass signature move, Bad Breath. They’ve have some solid blowouts so far in this rumble, finalist perhaps?
VS.
Worms
Not as classic but they’ve been in some other games, the giant worms. Unlike the Malboros, most of it’s battles here have been close. And this game’s desert Worms are pretty funny.
Fight!
But anyways:
Malboros is da shit!
Btw, Katzoe, does "Morbol" mean something in German? I actually thought of the cigarette company hence the "Bad Breath", but before that I figured it was "Mal" as in malicious or the general prefix for something bad, and "boro" which may have been part of a word meaning poison or something in Japanese.
But it probably is the cig company, with that prefix blended into it.
But it probably is the cig company, with that prefix blended into it.
Well Morbol doesn’t really has any meaning in german,
it’s just Malboros name in the german game version^^
no idea where that name came from =\
FFWiki says:
The name is likely to be a reference to Marlboro Cigarettes, since the creatures often spew horrid-smelling fumes. Also, the Japanese onomatopoeia "boro" is the sound of an upset stomach. Another possibility is the Latin phrases mal (meaning bad) and boros (meaning breath), a reference to their infamous attack.
anyways, Go Malboros! Go Morbol! :p
Malboros 6-0 Worms
Unbelievable… BOTH semifinals resulted in a blowout, never seen that before. You’d think there would be some sort of competition. This will make for an interesting finale. But first, one of these losers that got beaten bad is gonna have to make 3rd place… which should also be an intersting battle, because at least one of them will have to get support now. Which is the lesser of the two losers? Then again, they made it this far, so they aren’t exactly losers.
3rd Place Battle
Behemoths
These beasts were just snuffed by the little Cactuar squirts, and they went down fast! Size may not be everything but can they win 3rd place?
VS.
Worms
The big Worms were just beaten bad by the Malboros, but I’m not sure if it’s an "up against a titan" case, seeing as the Worms did make it this far. Then again the Malboros have been a dark horse contender. But right now we’re not gonna worry about that. Worms and Behemoths, a fair battle for humongous beasts. One of them will be making third place.
Fight! I’ll add my contribution later.
The 3rd place Bronze goes to the… Behemoths!!
Time for the final battle… this should be interesting.
FINAL BATTLE
Malboros
Classic big stinky plants. They’ve cruised their way to the top, winning all battles but one in a blowout. Should they win the whole thing?
VS.
Cactuars
Cactuars… tiny, but powerful. They’ve been like the kryptonite of this rumble. Most of their battles were blowouts except the first round against Tonberries, who probably would have gotten far as well! The first round battle kinda decided which one would be the sweeper, and the Cactuar got lucky. But, is it champion material?
Fight!!
Unlucky Tonberries, screwed in round one =\
Come on, Cactuars, let’s go buck wild and rock the finals! ๐
(>")>
They’re kind of fun to battle
๐
CACTUARS!
Amazing… Malboros have been cruising and winning almost everything in blowouts, and now they just not only met their match, but got beaten pretty damn bad. Those Cactuars sure have something about them.
Right… that was fun, anyway, I’ll give whoever wants a chance to pick this up.
I’m taking any suggestions for a new category.
I personally wanted to do Quotes but in the last very short Rumble it looks like that was what was done.
– Rikku Mixes
– Spells
– Weapons (not including Omega Weapons)
– Armour
– Items
– Locations (for example, Besaid, Kilika, Luca, Mi’hen Highroad, Bevelle, Mt. Gagazet; pretty much any zone that isn’t a temple or inside sin) This might have been done before though…
Quotes sounds great as well; but there will be thousands of lines that we could quote. Could we narrow it down a bit, like quotes that are under 12 words or something? Just so that you don’t get a gazillion nominations =P .
– Arena Creations
– Blitzball Players
– Bosses
– FMVs
– Items
– Locations
– Magic Spells
– Memorable Scenes/Quotes
– Monsters
– Monster Species
– Music
– Non-Playable Characters
– Overdrive Modes (i.e. Slayer, Tactician, etc.)
– Overdrives
– Playable Characters (the main party of 7)
– Skills (i.e. Power Break, etc.)
– Weapon/Armor
– Weapon/Armor Abilities
Quotes sounds great as well; but there will be thousands of lines that we could quote. Could we narrow it down a bit, like quotes that are under 12 words or something? Just so that you don’t get a gazillion nominations =P .
– Memorable Scenes/Quotes
See that should work, right? I mean it’s basically what we did with the FFX-2 rumble. Just a list of nominations of great quotes from scenes or even battle quotes like Lulu’s wonderful puns or what the characters say when they are switched into battle. (I noticed FFX has a lot of battle quotes and I doubt I’ve heard half of them)
But all of the other suggestions are equally interesting and could be used. I’m just looking at what you guys think will get the best responses. I’m kinda new to this whole thing.
Any ideas on how many entries there should be? I’ve heard of people using 32 all the way up to 64. 32 should be easy enough to fill.
Of course, i could just say everyone gets five nominations then when the nominating period is closed, eliminate one or two so I have an even number to use in the Rumble.
Which do you guys think is better?
P.S: I’m just going to edit my nominations into this post once it is written in stone.
EDIT:
– Yuna’s speech at the end of the game.
– The scene with Anima’s fayth; I think that there are two iirc, so I nominate both of them.
– Confrontation with Jecht inside Sin.
– Inside Seymour’s house, there’s an FMV that shows Zanarkand; that one I nominate.
– Jecht’s sphere in Macalania (after you beat that boss).
So yeah, everyone gets five nominations. I’m not sure what would be a good period of time to keep accepting nominations. I guess just until we fill the quota.
While we’re here.
-Summoner’s Sanctum revelation scene
-Sin attacks Zanarkand
-Operation Mi’hen failure FMV
-The infamous laughing scene
-Jyscal’s sphere in Macalania temple
EDIT: Scryer, I know you edited your post, but you might want to check what was already said. TWO of yours I already mentioned, and I made my post initially before you edited yours. Don’t mean to backseat-manage here, but I know how annoying it would probably be for Anti-Existence to go through them all and eliminate the repeating ones.
EDIT again, actually you only repeated one of mine. But still.
– Bevelle "trial" scene
– Scene following "Suteki da Ne"
– Yuna’s Sphere Recorded Messages at Mi’ihen (Dropped sphere found by Tidus at peak of Mt. Gagazet)
– Confrontation with Yunalesca
-Rikku freaking out on Thunder Plains scene
-Yuna’s Wedding FMV
-"Hornless! Hornless!" – Kimahri confronting his mentally challenged rivals on Mount Gagazet
-Barthello asking Auron to shake his hand
And yeah Seryer, just switch your one repeat and all’s good. We’ll have a total of 20 nominations.
Any chances a couple more posters could pop in here to give their choices? Two more and we’ll have 30 and then i’ll just pick a couple myself to finish it all up.
-The Sending FMV
-Tidus’s run-in with the Fayth when leaving Mt. Gagazet
-Finding Yuna at "Home"
-Shoopuf!
And yeah Seryer, just switch your one repeat and all’s good. We’ll have a total of 20 nominations.
Any chances a couple more posters could pop in here to give their choices? Two more and we’ll have 30 and then i’ll just pick a couple myself to finish it all up.
It’s all edited now, with no copies this time. I didn’t see any of your posts until today and I’ve had some horrific computer problems, so I couldn’t be ontop of all that. Anyways I nominated the FMV in Seymour’s house. It was a pretty FMV =P .
Seryer – Don’t worry about it. ^^ Good choice.
Anyway, so should I just pick 5 scenes and we can start the rumble with 30?
-Confronting Seymour the final time and his Sending
-The Legend Lives (FMV with Auron in Luca)
-Pretend You Didn’t See It (Seymour’s speech to Crusaders and then talk with the party)
-Rikku the New Guardian (including her stripping FMV obviously)
-You Can’t Do it Kid! (Jecht Shot Failure)
-Auron’s Sending
Okay I can’t thnk of anymore good ones at the moment. So if anyone else has 1 more nomination they want to get in, feel free.
When the Al Bhed capture Yuna and your party finds her in the prison with other summoners and Tidus’s realization that Yuna is sacrificing herself.
Destruction of Home (Cid and Brother singing then the FMV of the nuking)
And that is 32. I’ll start the Rumble sometime later today.
As with the FFIX Rumble, I just wrote the different things on pieces of paper and picked them out of a hat. So original I know.
RikkU Freaking out on the Thunder Plains
Being hit by a Thunder spell left a lasting effect on cute little Rikku. So crossing a long open area that has unceasing lightning bolts hitting the ground must be like an arachnophobic having spiders dumped on them.
You can see both scenes of her "freaking out" here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8l4PgBejKc)
vs.
Yuna’s Wedding
A strong contender in this Rumble, I think. This scene has it all – drama, action and the first decent graphics kiss in FF history! Oh and don’t forget the epic music.
You can see it all here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ea6hfCIFU8k) and here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsEN6hjkJHE)
Eh heh heh heh heh heh heh… :3
but Yuna’s Wedding is not far behind. Really tough choice it was.
Edit:
Actually, after seeing both of these scenes after long time since playing, I changed my mind. Yuna’s Wedding scene is awesome. My first choice was based on how I remember them, sorry for the confusion.
Rikku Freaking Out: 0
A brutal but unsurprising outcome for our first match.
Next battle!
The Laughing Scene
This is probably one of Final Fantasy X’s most known and talked about scenes. And for all the wrong reasons.
English or Japanese, this exercise in stupidity continues to make people Facepalm across the globe.
Though some will steadfastly argue it was supposed to be this retarded so it’s not that bad.
…sure why not.
You can watch it here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BU8-e-C4Uy0)
vs.
Can I Shake Your Hand?
This scene is memorable for a couple reasons. in the Antechamber from the Djose Chamber of the Fayth, the party again encounters Summoner Dona and her Guardian, Barthello. The previously silent and frankly stupid looking muscle man speaks and shows his respect for Auron.
The other special thing about this scene is a rare glimpse of Auron being genuinely amused and smiling.
You can watch it here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGP6piIAdho)
The laughing scene kills a little piece inside of me every time I get up to that point in the game.
Oh and if Tidus Laughing gets through I might have to go and hang my self
The Laughing Scene 0
Ouch. I at least expected the Laughing Scene to get one or two votes for irony’s sake if nothing else.
Ah well.
Next fight!
You can’t Do it Kid!
This is the alternate scene that happens if you fail to perform the Jecht Shot on the trip to Luca from Killika. Overall everything is the same but there are a few nice little differences and I think it fits more in with Tidus’ character to be overpowered by his mental demons at this point.
You can watch it here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kipRSiCrlKY)
Sorry i couldn’t actually find a clip of him failing to do the shot. it’s just what happens right after.
vs.
The Legend Lives
Who’s that sexy hunk of man with the shades, red trenchcoat and booze?
Why it’s Auron of course. After losing him back in "Zanarkand" we don’t see him for quite a while. I must say that, like everything else Auron-related, his re-entrance to the story is badass beyond belief.
You can watch it here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJkHdzXrIVw)
Nothing can’t beat Auron’s awesome stance. That’s one of the best scenes in the game.
I think I get a 10 for originality =D .
So far..
The Legend Lives, I guess.
You Can’t Do it Kid!: 1
Despite Seryer’s originality, conformity and popularity reign supreme.
Next fight!
Confrontation with Seymour at Macalania
Seymour is evil! I had no idea!
…
So yes, after seeing Jyscal’s Sphere (which is a separate contender in this Rumble in case you’re wondering) the party goes to confront Seymour in the Antechamber of Macalania Temple. Yuna soon appears and decides to join them in fighting a leader of the Yevon faith. The party kills the good Maester and he dies in a Not Symbolic At All way.
You can watch it here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHJmL6M1t5U)
vs.
Destruction of Home
More specifically, it’s ultimate destruction. The Guado and their fiends did enough damage that the Al Bhed’s haven was done for so their leader, Cid, decided to take out Home and all the monsters in it with our new airship. A great moment filled with both emotion and awesome.
You can watch it here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EmA3uTgw_4)
————————
I think (and hope) this will be our first good fight.
Not too fond of either scene though.
Just ’cause I love Shiva.
Just because I like how they went against a powerful figure in Spira. And I love Shiva. If it wasn’t for that, the Destruction of Home would’ve been my vote.
Just ’cause I love airships. ~
I vote for Confrontation with Seymour at Macalania.
Which makes it…
Confrontation with Seymour at Macalania: 6
Destruction of Home: 5
Despite the lack of enthusiasm for two of the best moments in the game, we had our first close match.
Moving on…
A Ronso Stands Tall
Kimahri runs into his big brother and his friend at a couple locations before the party reaches Mt. Gagazet. His brother Biran apparently is the one who took his horn many years ago and he and Yanke seem to think Kimahri is small Ronso. Kimahi proves his strength by defeating them all on his own and thus concluding his little subplot.
You can watch it here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sONR_DhGPpk)
vs.
The Beginning & The End
After you click Start the game opens up on a scene you won’t really understand. Some people are gathered around a fire and there’s a really nice piano playing in the background. Then someoen tells you to listen to their story….this may be their last chance.
The next time you see this scene is indeed the end of them telling the story and everything makes sense now. With the knowledge you’ve gained since the first time you saw this, you’ve come to understand why the characters are so despairing and hopelessness.
You can watch it here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHGWU8ZQzDQ)
Hornless! Hornless! ๐
Wow, to think that I almost voted the other contender since I failed at quoting lol.
BIRAN REND YOU ASSUNDER!!!!!!
NEVER FORGET!
A Ronso Stands All: 4
Unsurprising outcome. Kimahri’s epic moment was not epic enough it seems.
Next up!
Yuna’s Speech
Well Sin, Auron and Tidus are all gone. Yuna is left behind as pretty much the messiah of Spira. Before she even gives the speech though we see her whistling fruitlessly on the dock as Tidus told her he’d always come if she whistled…
As for the speech itself, best if you hear it.
Watch it here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZxW94Zb3U4)
vs.
Operation Mi’Hen’s Failure
The Al Bhed and the Crusader’s brave but futile attempt to stop Sin ends with pretty much everyone being killed. Though they used cannons and chocobo-mounted knights, their trump card was to blast Sin with some giatn laser machina. Unfortunately, Sin’s forcefield > machina and all is lost.
You can watch the FMV of the failure and the aftermath here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzDZai4Wr0U)
Yuna’s Speech: 2
Well Yuna’s send-off to the game got a couple votes in at least.
Next fight!
After Suteki da Ne
After Yuna’s breakdown she gets a nice kiss from Tidus to make up for the bad one Seymour gave her. This kiss luckily helped her out of her funk and she rebuilds her resolve to vanquish Sin.
You can watch it all here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZAwkwUovfI)
vs.
Lulu’s Final Farewell
I thought that was a nice title… Not sure what else to call this.
If you choose to go to the optional Gavern of the Stolen Fayth, you are rewarded with an aeon and some backstory for Lulu. Apparently another summoner she guarded died in the Cavern and has come to haunt it as an Unsent. Lulu performs her last act as Guardian for her former summoner.
You can watch it here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ub5t8wnS_dA)
I’m actually not a fan of the other one.
I hate romantic kiss scenes.
Lulu’s Final Farewell!
Lulu’s Final Farewell: 4
A respectable showing for Lulu sending her former Guardian but Yuna’s resolve wins.
Next fight.
Bevelle Trial
The ultimate and definitive scene showing how corrupt Yevon is. Also our first introduction to the final Maester, Kelk Ronso. Yuna and her Guardians are sentenced to death for questioning the "truths" of Spira. Namely that Spira is damned to misery for eternity.
Also contains the part where Kelk is mortified by hearing Seymour killed his own father. Seymour however just replies "hm? Haven’t you heard?"
You can watch it here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PChzc2hj4vc)
vs.
Jecht’s Sphere
To be more specific, the first and only mandatory Jecht Sphere. Auron makes this little detour on the way to meeting up with Seymour at Macalania Temple. it’s our first real insight into Jecht as more than a drunken lout.
Well he wasn’t that bad a guy as seen in Tidus’ flashback at the Farplane but this goes a long way to making you feel for the guy.
You can watch it here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzIlObzkPN8)
As for now, hard choice but Bevelle Trial.
Bevelle Trial: 8
Jecht’s Sphere: 2
Unsurprising outcome. Bevelle Trial is probably one of the most awesome plot related scenes in teh game.
Next battle!
Confronting Yunalesca
I’d bet hard money this gets to the Semi Finals at the very least. This epic moment is when Yuna and the party fully cast off their beliefs in Yevon, the Final Summoning and everything.
Auron steals the spotlight by showing his valiant but futile attempt to strike down Yunalesca as well as his "now! This is it!" Everyone else also gets a "Determination Line".
You can watch it here. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvAXzNf5OHo)
vs.
Just Pretend
The party’s first real interaction with Seymour. Seymour gives a reallying speech to the gathered Crusaders then talks with Yuna and company again. Most memorable for the "then pretend…" lines Seymour says.
I second what TAE said about this one making the semi-finals. In fact I bet all of my posts that it does make the semi-finals.
This is no question one of my favourite scenes ever; I even had a save file dedicated to replaying it for me.
It actually might be a scene, that I remember the best after years since playing the game, without checking on youtube. So bonus for that , though I will probably be the only one to vote for it ๐
But I don’t know about it making the finals… considering I was stuck on her for a week and you can’t skip scenes in X and it’s mad long, the amount of times having to sit through it…
But I don’t know about it making the finals… considering I was stuck on her for a week and you can’t skip scenes in X and it’s mad long, the amount of times having to sit through it…
I think that’d be silly, true that was annoying but it shouldn’t lose because of that imo.
Just Pretend: 1
Another unsurprising outcome.
Jyscal’s Sphere
SEYMOUR IS EVIL!
…okay you probably guessed that already. Still, this was the turning point when teh protagonists finally discovered it. This short but very awesome scene – helped by the music no doubt – shows Seymour’s father who was killed by Seymour. Actually, if you read up on how Jyscal banished Seymour and his mother to Baaj Temple, I can’t blame Seymour…
You can watch it here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcTLJqPA0wQ) Skip to 2:50
vs.
Anima’s Fayth
That’s right, it’s Seymour’s other parent. His loving mother transformed herself into a Final Aeon so her son may defeat Sin and thus gain acceptance. He’d be dead and thus wouldn’t be able to enjoy that acceptance but it was a nice gesture.\
Sadly, as she says, Anima wasn’t enough. he wanted more…more power.
You can watch it here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A91V36lJzQI) Skip to 6:00.
One of my favourite scene(s) from the game.
Anima’s fayth is cool but seriously? Compared to that? That’s just when the story stopped being boring.
Anima’s Fayth: 4
Close tie but Seymour’s daddy beats his mommy. Er…well, you know what I mean.
Rikku the New Guardian
Well the first character we meet after coming to Spira is actually the last person to join the main party. 15-year-old Rikku is Yuna’s cousin, a genius with items and a totally fine piece of ass.
I feel no shame in saying that as the creators felt no shame in the first part of this scene.
You can watch it here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1WcOKodzTg)
P.S. Does anyone else think Tidus sounds disappointed that she’s not dead at first?
vs.
The Farplane
A far more dramatic moment. We heard through the entire game about where people go after they die and then..we go there. Sort of. In Guadosalam, Tidus and Yuna both come to realizations about their parnets and what they will do now.
Also we learn Chappu actually looks nothing like Tidus. So go figure.
You can watch it here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOuRaFJWBwg)
Not every scene where you get to see a girls ass deserves to win.
Not every scene where you get to see a girls ass deserves to win.
Not every scene where you get to see a girls ass deserves to win.
Not every scene where you get to see a girls ass deserves to win.
LOL. But that’s also my vote too.
Not every scene where you get to see a girls ass deserves to win.
This.
Rikku, the New Guardian: 0
To quote Rikku "owie". Didn’t expect such a horrible stomp.
Also, as far as I’m aware, this is the ONLy clip prominently featuring a girl’s ass in this Rumble. Ah well.
Next fight!
The Sending
The first sending witnessed in the game and the only one given the high quality cutscene treatment. After a good portion of Killika is wiped out, Yuna sends their restless spirits to the Farplane.
Also featured is one of the many variations of the Hymn of the Fayth. This is one of my favorite versions.
You can watch it here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJPhSapqRtw)
vs.
Zanarkand Metropolis
Another beautiful sequence that has a bit of plot significance. This one is features the (SPOILERS) actual Zanarkand of a 1000 years ago. It also is the catalyst for Seymour to talk about Yunalesca and thus get the conversation over to the topic of marriage.
You can watch it here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cQoLSeoP2s)
BUT unfortunately i dun think it can match The Sending, which is one of the best scenes in the game, if not the best. sorry for the metropolis scene but my vote will have to go to The Sending.
The Sending
Sending all the way. Although I did LOVE Zanarkand Metropolis.
Zanarkand Metropolis: 3
Close but no cigar for the flashy FMV that really doesn’t do anything except serve as eye candy.
Next fight!
Yuna’s Sphere
This is an item Yuna drops just before the party travel down to Zanarkand. Tidus picks it up and listens to what is essentially Yuna’s will or I guess just a recording of her telling everyone how she feels. Really a nice and powerful bit to further drive home Yuna’s sacrifice.
You can watch it here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ukik_29Un2w)
vs.
The Truth Revealed
In Home’s Summoner Sanctum, Rikku finally clues Tidus in at how Yuna’s journey will end. It will end when she summons the Final Aeon and defeats Sin…
Then said Final Aeon wil kill Yuna as well.
Everyone knew except our hero who is understandably distraught.
You can watch it here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-R6pYSjYmA)
———————-
Ya know, I usually don’t count my own vote unless there’s a tie but this is the one time I feel compelled to vote right now. I vote for The Truth Revealed because, no matter what haters say, it has an emotional power that makes it one of the most effective scenes in FF history. And this is coming from a guy who couldn’t care less about both Yuna and Tidus.
Damn I wish these two weren’t paired so early XD .
Couldn’t agree more with the above, which is why it has to be The Truth Revealed for me!
Yuna’s Will: 0
Sadly for Yuna she got pit against a real contender to win the whole thing. No shame in losing to one of the most memorable scenes in the whole franchise’s history.
Next fight.
Shoopuf!
After a somber scene that foreshadows the sorrowful end of Yuna’s Pilgrimage, we cut to some comedy.
All I can is…ride ze shoopuf?
You can watch the scene here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Drat_qea52g) (skip to about 1:50 for the actual Shoopuf part)
vs.
All Just A Dream
Of slightly greater plot significance than the SHoopuf maybe but with none of the humor.
We learn all about who and what Tidus really is and why his Zanarkand is not the same as the one the party is so close to.
You can watch it here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tTEnejLPCI)
Although I’d have liked to give it to the Shoopuf ๐
Although I’d have liked to give it to the Shoopuf ๐
