My thoughts exactly, amazing score. Track 8 "Like a Dog Chasing Cars" is definitely my favorite so far.

I agree. I’m a huge Zimmer fan but I find this score pretty disappointing.
The score sounds like one long track. There is always this same underlying rythem/perscussion in every song, which gets boring after a while. Also it isn’t original cause every part of the OST is just massive repetition of ‘Batman Begins’ (including that underlying rythem/percussion I was talking about). I would have been better to bring a lot of new stuff in instead of repeating some great themes from Batman Begins to death…
Like Zimmer said, it’s evolution, not revolution. Imo a 7/10

Well got to look at it this way. For the style of begins and Dark Knight the score is extremely minimalistic. Which means that the scenes are doing most of the talking, this isn’t a full out score, It’s meant to be a pretty quiet piece thats suppose to be very minimum.

since I started haveing troubles with winzip , I use now this 7 zip and it works great for me anyway.
Honestly it isn’t that minimal…most Remote Control Productions music (ie Hans Zimmer, Steve Jablonsky, John Powell, Klaus Badelt, James Newton Howard) for summer blockbusters is usually very "big". There is a lot of bass and strings, and a lot of crescendo. You can hear that in most of these tracks. This is an action movie afterall. Though I will grant that it has more plot and story than any movie we will see this summer save perhaps "Wall-E"
But also, this is REUSED music in many cases. The last track is rehashing of "Da Vinci Code" and "Pearl Harbor". A very classic thing Hans Zimmer does…He has been rehashing "Backdraft" and "Crimson Tide" for years.
For a minimal score from the likes of either James Newton Howard or Hans Zimmer, listen to:
"Lady in the Water" or "The Emperors Club" – James Newton Howard
"Cool Runnings" or "The Holiday" – Hans Zimmer

I think the score for Dark Knight is really awesome, to be honest. It won’t blow your mind, and it certainly doesn’t have quite the impact that the Begins score had (on the album anyway), but I love what they are doing with themes and motifs from the first score. For example, the Two-Face music is a combination of one of the motifs from the action underscore and the "emotional" music for Bruce/Rachael, and they are re-used brilliantly here. I also love how the main Batman theme has been re-harmonized and is now in the same key as Elfman’s, which is a nice (if not deliberate) nod to his work.
As for the upload, is this the 256 bitrate mono copy that has been making the rounds or is the quality on this one better?
That mono version is just the Youtube audio ripped into mp3 format, and the guy who uploaded those video/sound files there also provided the link that is at the top of this thread. The link here is in full stereo, and aside from the last track (as everyone knows) being damaged, the sound is far better than that 256kbps mono version.

Thanks, I grabbed it. Much better than the first version I had. ๐ I’m still going to buy it, though. I am by no means a Zimmer fanboy, I was raised on Williams and Elfman. But I do appreciate the majority of his work, and very few of his scores have disappointed me.
and as for this score….. i really don’t want to be Captain Negativity, but damn—- what a major disappointment….. and not because it’s crap, cause it’s certainly not, but i’ve listened to the entire score about four times in the last 24 hours, and man i feel so let down….. where the hell is this "new" theme?? you know the one that Zimmer had been promising since ’05??
sorry, i couldn’t find anything remotely "new" except for that 40 somewhat second portion of the track, "Like A Dog Chasing Cars" that attempts to go somewhere but never actually does.
….. and don’t even get me started on that ambient nonsense which is somehow supposed to accompany the Joker (which sounds a lot more like a missing track from "Constantine" than anything else.)
furthermore, did anyone else find the lack of "Two-Face" to be a bit of let down??? argh….. why do i smell "Venom" all over again?

Don’t get me wrong…I happen to like a lot of Remote Control Productions does. Most of their scores tend to be fast paced and have high energy. The biggest issue I have is the fact that the majority of the muisc is reused from earlier scores. And they tend to not be real innovative as compared to what Jerry Goldsmith was, or to other composers like Elfman, Dario Marianelli, or Morricone.
The original Batman score (Elfman) to me will always be the best, because it captured the true essence of Batman. Just like the original Superman themes by Williams will always be the best, even though John Ottman found a way to screw them up.
For the most part I agree with you on the score, even though in the movie I know I will like it even though I will keep remembering other movies where I heard that "same score". I listen for reused music every time I listen to a Remote Control Productions score.
But about "WAll-E", dude the movie is fantastic. So very smart. I challenge you to find me a summer movie that is better, besides "The Dark Knight". And don’t say Iron-Man, because that movie is surely a little overhyped. BTW, "Wall-E" will win the OSCAR for Best Animated Feature.
Hmm, I might have to disagree here also. If you want extreme minimalism, check out any of Michael Giacchino’s work. Particularly, any of his soundtracks for the show LOST. Michael Giacchino is usually very quiet with his work, but expresses so much emotion with it that many of the epic music composers like John Williams or Hans Zimmer have failed to show in all their works. Not to say that they can’t express emotion successfully. But if you tend to like their older stuff than the newer, perhaps they’re losing their touch.
I do like Hans Zimmer’s LAST SAMURAI soundtrack. That expresses a lot of emotion on a grander scale.

That’s cool for a film or two or even a series of films where you can use a progression motif. BUT DUDE, Zimmer and his production company literally use pieces from films over and over and sure they change it a little bit here or there but it is still in effect the same theme. I can show you specific pieces of music… You’re right in saying it is a gimmick, that is why he hasn’t won any OSCARS besides "The Lion King", his most unique score.

You just cut off where its starts to mess up on the original. Leaving off the real ending music(there’s 3 mins cut off at the end), which is REALLY nice.

Very true and I know that. And remember, I do like these guys music A LOT!! All I’m saying is that people just hail there music as the end all of score music and it really isn’t because you can listen to variations through all their films. In some ways it ruins the music because it is so unoriginal.
That is all I am saying; just don’t think this music is the BEST ever, when it is rehashed music from earlier.
Yeah if you like that sort of thing its cool. I like to hear pieces that pay homage and stuff like that, but to hear basically the same piece gets old. There is a piece of music Hans has been using since 2000 in Gladiator, Pearl Harbor, Da Vinci Code and many others most recently The Dark Knight.
I like heavy bass rhythms and lots of string instruments, and fast paced music which is why I like Hans and his group of composers…but sometimes I wish they would change it up. Of course most of this work is done in summer movies, so who cares. I just need to get my popcorn and enjoy the movie…lol.

"Iron Man??!!" LOL….. Dude, *high five* I thought "Iron Man" was pretty overrated, personally…. It wasn’t horrible, which is why I think so many people praise it…. But, the whole thing reeked of "Been there, done that"…. IMO.
But, Wall-E "smart"?? How?
Nothing ever happened once in that movie. Practically, joke or moment of interest happened at least twice. By the eighth time we saw the same clip of "Put on Your Sunday Clothes" I thought, "Okay they obviously didn’t know what else to do."
It’s like the Teletubbies made that film…. You can almost hear them in the screening room shouting, "Again! Again!"
The story was pretty sloppy here, and there…. At times it felt like full scenes were cut entirely out. How did they lose the plant that second time? Wall-E had it INSIDE him, then, in the next scene, it’s travelling up the junk chute–whaaa?
Why did EVA (I know her name is EVE, but as long as Wall-E called her EVA, so will I), whose "directive" was to find organic life and expresses not a shred of interest in the junk littering the planet, suddenly "coo" and "ooh" at Wall-E’s collection of garbage?
I understood what Pixar was trying to do with "Wall-E", but it had already been done….. much better in "The Triplets of Belleville".
And seriously, which Pixar film hasn’t won for, "Best Animated Feature"?
Lastly, I’d love to take up your challenge on picking a "smarter" film this summer than, "Wall-E or TDK"….. but the truth is that, I don’t know of any…. and the reasoning behind that is, ’cause whatever that "smarter" film is— It’s not the sort of film that would appeal to the "Disney/SuperHero", crowd.

Which brings us to the humans, who by consumerism have become lazy and worthless. They show no emotion, and no care unlike the robots (great irony).
They didn’t show the "Hello Dolly" clip 8 times, though it was at least 4…lol.
Though the *wink* to other things may have a been somewhat heavy, (ie Apple, 2001: A Space Odyssey) I especially like the *wink* to Charlie Chaplin.
The story was actually pretty tight and required one to view the film in terms of what is actually happening on screen. You couldn’t rely on bad dialogue to inform you of every little thing. Which is another thing I like about the movie. Less dialogue, meant less bad dialogue, which meant less random fill time. I can’t exactly remember, your scene in question. I know they fly back in, and EVE goes by herself to show that she has the plant, and then they both are in the garbage area without the plant. So when she goes up to give the plant to the captain, I believe, is when it gets taken again.
Take up my challenge. Don’t think that I have only seen Iron Man and Wall-E this summer. You would be wrong. I’m not the so-called "Disney/SuperHero" crowd; but I surely know of who you speak. Please, find me a summer movie with better story elements. Unfortunately the movies this summer don’t seem as good; Ironically Hollywood is making more money this summer than in past summers. So I guess it begs the question, "What do I know?"…lol!!

He wasn’t minimal with the medal of honor Allied assault score. One of my favorites lol.
In terms of the Dark Knight OST. I like the music stand-alone. We haven’t seen the full film yet. The intention of film score music is to complement/amplify/ drive emotion from the scenes, first and foremost.
I would be very thankful for this ๐
