still great remake though with added voice overs and stuff. and why the F would i say this? because if they’re gonna release remakes of classics like Final Fantasy IV on the DS they always put full stylus functionality in it. the developers as well as the buyers and players of this remake are utterly disappointed that this they didn’t put full stylus functionality into this game. but still the game looks great like i mentioned above with nice graphics, epic style storyline with nice voice acting and alot of very good detail put into it. and i guess that’s all Square-Enix is good for probably. the one thing i love about this title though is the opening FMV sequence. they’ve actually detailed Summoner Rydia to look a bit like a sex goddess and such. man if i could imagine goin out on a hot date with a video game character i’d go into a love triangle between myself, Rydia and Reiko Nagase from Namco (but let’s not get into to much detail about that ๐ anyways this game is great for people who just want to know the story and all but if they wanna play this game they’ll just be playing the Gameboy Advance or SNES versions of it instead of this expertly pathetic excuse for a Nintendo DS Remake.
it’s really a pity since Square-Enix are masters of the Role-Playing Genre but, and don’t get me wrong here guys, this Final Fantasy IV remake is just an excuse for generating financial debt. just like Dungeons & Dragons for most people. some D&D players generally find that the latest 4th Edition is just a means for people to cough up money just to buy new core rules and keep Wizards of the Coast being rich and at the same time enjoy the game. to me and alot of other people around the world, it’s exactly the same thing here. they just keep making classic RP Games just for financial gain. and personally i don’t think i should have bought it if they decided to take away the one functionality that i love best and i’m sure that’s how alot of those other people feel to.
so basically what i’m trying to get at is Square-Enix just got a nice gigantic punch in the face fer releasing this remake.
4/10 overall for the amount of coughable functions they’ve put in it.
Firstly, you can still move your characters with the stylus, it just so happens that you have to move the cursor and watch the movement on the top screen. So THAT part is not still there. The only thing that isn’t is the bringing up menu (Oh, and I forgot the zoom function… yes. Did anyone find that useful more than twice in the game?). Also, adding the mini games was a great way to incorporate the stylus into the game, and wasn’t useless, as in Final Fantasy III.
As for the accusations of the game not having to be made… The DS was the only option for this game. I mean, Square has been MOSTLY a Nintendo exclusive, when it came to hand held systems, save for a FEW games. Also, aftedr releasing that Final Fantasy VII game for the PSP, why not show the DS some of the love it deserves? The only way I could say that it didn’t need to be, is because Square COULD have remade Final Fantasy VI instead.
Sorry for my rant, but everything needed to be said.
i actually wrote that review to actually disappoint Gamefaqs.com by the way (lol ๐ ) but i though i’d post it here just to see if i could get some opinions as to how you guys feel about this sorta situation. when i said it disappoints buyers and players of the game, i didn’t actually mean that people would have the style of gameplay Square-Enix put into. like the voice acting (by the way i’m not so sure if the cast of this game really had any experience with video games in the past but i sorta wonder what they were thinking before they started this project ๐ ), the controls (i mean you can’t tell how hard the controls of a game may fell for a certain gamer), and the graphics of the game itself (which, i might add Tetsuya Nomura does intend this game to look lifelike judging by the opening FMV). not everyone meets a certain taste in games until they actually try it out right?
like me for example. i’ve just been shipped a copy of this dating sim based on the Anime Neon Genesis Evangelion and i must say what i’ve done on it so far is actually starting to look great. again it all depends on what this certain individual loves in their game. not just the stuff people obviously should want to have. i mean, it’s like this saying, you can’t judge a book by it’s cover right?
I have to agree. And it would seem like not all DS games need to use the stylus. Like FFTA2, for example. If you try using the stylus in that it makes you crazy.
No point in saying "Oh this doesn’t have good stylus function therefore it’s a horrible remake".
fail.
