I have been looking forward to this for ages now. And the trailers I have been keeping up with are doing their job. They are getting me more and more exited.

The whole co-op play is a great idea in my opinion. I have heard people claim it’s going to ruin the atmosphere of playing a survival horror game. But I think RE said goodbye to that genre the second we had our first QTE and had to run away from a ensuing boulder, Indiana Jones obviously springs to mind. Back to the co-op, I think its a fantastic addition to put in the game. I’d imagine the only feeling great than the one of knowing another human is watching your back, is knowing that you have to be on your toes for them too. I have always preferred to play games with other people and RE is one of my favorite series of games. So I’m happy with the opportunity they have made available.

I’ll wait to see if this topic gets many responses before posting much more.

But I am curious as to what people think of the co-op system and who is looking forward to the game’s release.

Oh, for anybody crying over PS3 exclusives being moved to 360 (hey Harkus!), it is being released for the 360. And they have plans to make a port for the wii, but not for a few years.

No her and Chris will not likely hook up, because the canon of the storyline points to him being with Jill. In fact, judging by how RE treats Black characters, I wouldn’t be surprised if she died halfway through, or at the end of the game.

Still, I’m looking forward to RE5. I’m planning to replay RE4 soon, just to get a feel for it again.

indeed, that is sooo old fashined.

I’m looking forward to going through the 6 games until RE5 comes out.

I too decided to go through them all again. But whilst playing through RE 2, I got sidetracked with another game..and back it went onto the shelves. It’s not a huge deal for me to play them again. But if you haven’t beaten them at least once, I think its a good idea to play them.

I am thinking of tracking down a copy of Code:Veronica to play. I’m sure they made a port for the PS2. I only played it a small amount on the Dreamcast years ago. But that’s one I haven’t beaten and wish I had.

I’ve been really looking forward to it’s release too for a long time. There seems to be a hell of a lot of enemies and i think this adds a new element of fear to the game when they all start to surround and gang up on you.

That’s one of the things I loved about 4. It does it’s job of getting the adrenaline flowing and keeping you on the edge of your seat. Although, most of the time I end up standing and hyped up. Don’t get me wrong, the feeling the the the previous REs, particularly the original, puts into you is unique in itself. I must admit the fixed camera angles in the first 3 were a big part of what i thought made the games great. When they removed that in 4, I was skeptacle. But I think it works well nonetheless.

Oh yes. As soon as I get my PS3 (should be a matter of weeks now), I’ll be meeting you on the PS Network! Pro Evo and eventually RE 5. I’m willing to bet your doubts will be lifted fairly swiftly. 😉

I gotta say, I’m a bit disappointed in it. It seemed way too easy and the whole Sheva being your sidekick thing doesn’t really work for me.

I imagine we’ll be split up from Sheva more than once throughout the game though, so we should get to feel "alone" a few times. And doing puzzles will probably be easier too. Though they can’t get much easier than the ones from RE4..

if i saw this earlier i would have asked you to join me in a game, but i unplugged the 360 to play morrowind on the xbox.
before anyone says, yes, i play that game on the xbox because i have my frikin 100 hour save there and i have no means of passing it on the 360, if thats even possible.

I love it, it’s brilliant, I got used to the controls instantly so I had no trouble with the aimming and such. I haven’t completed either of the levels yet though, died on the first try then the chainsaw guy got to my partner.

Speaking of the partner she is fucking awesome, she never gets in the way and has saved me from death more then once. Making her do everything like pushing bookshelves is pretty cool too 😛

Sheva’s pretty damn hot.

The controls were a little strange at first, but i know i’ll get used to them. I’m not sure how well the sharing of items and equipment will work though; I tried to give Sheva some handgun ammo, but it gave her all of my supply. Maybe it’ll share it out better if there is enough to give us both a fair amount?

The combat seems as good as it was in RE4. And aiming is nice and easy (if you know what you’re doing). Obviously it looks great, though I’m sure everyone thought it would. And the sound effects are pretty top draw. (maybe not as good as Dead Space, but still effective)

I did both levels on the demo, and I didn’t die once. Which could mean that having Sheva on the team is making it too easy. Or it could mean that the levels I played were pretty easy anyway, and that the demo is set to easy difficulty. I don’t know.

One gripe I do have, is that when i tried to use the rifle to zoom in and admire Sheva’s clevage, she ran out the line of sight..

Sheva was on the cards from the beginning. I’m pretty sure they were expecting silly accusations of racism, but Sheva was not implemented to try and satisfy the crys of people feeling unimportant and pissed off at the world.

Capcom had always planned to have a co-op mode within it. You think went through the motions of adding that extra content just to please some pissed off blacks? And yes, you might say "well, maybe they had co-op but it wasn’t going to be Sheva they used", but I don’t think that’s the case. It seems she has a story that will develop and that she is vital to the plot. I find it hard to believe Capcom would do all this just to pander to these left-wing nutjobs. Also, I would call her a secondary character, not a protagonist.

thats easy, when hosting a game, make sure to change the setting to TEAM, then press the xbox button, choose a friend who also has the demo, and send him an invite.

As for RE5. I played both levels with my brother online and it’s great. I enjoyed it on my own, but being able to use the mics to help each other out makes for fantastic fun.

Employing tactics that you couldn’t with the AI is another great addition made available. My only concern is that you might not be able to save a game that you’re playing with a friend. In other words, you can only co-op the levels you have done on single player. If that’s not the case, then I’ll be a happy chap!

TM, when you go onto co-op (online) you select join or host. In this example, I’ll say you invited me and I want to join your game. So you have selected host, and make sure you change it to "Partner" not "No Limits". It’ll then say "Invite Someone"

So you press the PS button and press triangle on my name. Then select "Invite This Person" and I’ll get a message. I go to that message and press triangle, which will then give me the option of selecting an invite to accept. I do that and then we should go into the level.

That’s how me and my brother did it anyway.

I got to a bit earlier in the Marshlands. Where you’re supposed to find 4 pieces of a stone to put into a door. I found one piece and then went to look for the others. Just as I got into a swamp and the music changed. A crocodile’s head popped up. It was at this point I got a message asking me to go on COD5. So I quit the game and went off. When I came back, I expected to begin at my last checkpoint. But no, it starts me back at the beginning of the Chapter. Yet I still have my ammo and such. Just no map, or the piece of Stone I collected. And, I had shot one of the BSSA symbols, which returned. Pretty damn annoying.

My PS3 has it’s own issues too, had the optical drive die twice and the port for cables short, they got repaired under warranty but yeah. Friend has had his PS3 die too. Would hate to think what kind of problems I’d run into if I played my PS3 half as much as my 360.

Note, PS3 version of RE5 has frame rate issues. I hired it out for both from work before choosing which to buy.

The 360 doesn’t have framerate issue, occasionally though it’ll get tearing if your monitor/TV isn’t up to spec. Works great on my BenQ 2200HD Full HD (2ms) but on my BenQ FP202W (8ms) it tears which is a shame cause I have the 360 in my room and I use the FP202W in my room for image editing, the family computer is the one with the 2200HD.

Also things like the blue BSAA discs you only need to get once, they will always reappear even if you’ve acquired it beforehand. It’ll load you to your last checkpoint and you’ll have all the storyline items you had originally. Least it does with the 360 version. Not something I tested with the PS3 version.

The game makes me want to cry cause of how many times you need to play it to unlock all the upgrades for your weapons. I’ve finally upgraded everything but goddamn it was hard playing it so much. Almost at the point where I just don’t want to play it anymore….

Anyways off to play some more, need more points to unlock unlimited ammo on them all.

Sure, you have to wait longer for the PC release, but the price is still 40-50 dollars. Some game have issues, but a patch usually fixes it. PC’s have their own live network, it’s called Steam. Microsoft Live is also available and you get all the benefits of Xbox Live without paying for it. You can even play games against Xbox Live members.

Between the red ring of death, and the lack luster PS3 version of games, it’s pretty obvious why the PC is the silent king. Especially, when you consider that both the Xbox360 and the PS3 are PC’s with inferior GPU’s.

What about Resident Evil 5 you ask? Well, that’s coming out for the PC too, eventually.

I think it’s a amazing looking game…it’s just a shame they’ve taken all horror out of RE and replaced it with action.

Not that it’s a bad thing, but it makes the game feel even less like an RE title.

I haven’t bought a Wifi thingy for my 360 yet so haven’t checked out the co-op.

I’m sure the designers of Survival Horror games and Horror films will be delighted to here that….

A friend of mine says that whenever he plays/watches anything scary, he constantly tells himself that it’s just a game/film, and he shouldn’t be scared. I don’t get why anyone would do this. The idea of these things is to suck you in and create a sense of fear. And maybe that’s not what you’re saying, but if you never intend on being scared, then why watch the films and play the games?

Now, with Resi 5, I understand that it is hard to feel scared. Because the game does seem to have gone in another direction. (I personally wouldn’t call it survival horror anymore). But I’m told that FEAR and Condemned are two very scary games. And I know I watch films every now and then that make me jump. My main point in all that is, I don’t feel that games/films are no longer scary.

As far as films go, I don’t watch new horror films anymore, the genre is pretty much dead in my opinion. If I ever catch a gem on TV I will watch it though as some of the films from the 80s can still give me chills even today.

And with games I don’t play many horror video games either, the reason I like RE5 is because it’s an enjoyable game and I had tons of fun playing the demo with friends, like you said it’s not really a survival horror, it’s an action game with rage zombies. (yes I know they’re not really zombies but they really do remind me of dawn of the dead and 28 days later).

and jftr I always play/watch a horror game/film with the intent of being scared but I just haven’t seen/played anything lately that has scared me in the slightest but it does take a fair bit to scare me so maybe it’s just me.

I agree, RE threw the Survival Horror aspect out the window with RE4 and now they are just awesome action games.

F.E.A.R. is incredible in the way it gets under your skin and scares you in a more supernatural sense similar to the Silent Hill titles.

A very important aspect to jump scenes and scares is the music imo. Most of the time these scenes are actually not scary with the music turned down or off.

Even on capped net there was practically NO lag and I can’t wait to play with someone who actually knows NOT to shoot at gas cylinders when they are required to defeat the up and coming boss.

Co op works surprisingly well and is FUCKING awesome.

I love how when you lose connection, the enemy you’re shooting becomes invincible, but your ammo keeps going down. Lovely.

Dr. Manjini took us both out once a piece. Me because I suck, TM because glitchiness or some shit, because HE HIT HIM IN THE HEAD 😡

On that attempt we both landed simultaneous reaction commands 3 times in a row on him.

We beat the holy hell out of him with our simultaneous melees :P, dunno why he didn’t stagger when I shot him at point blank in the head WITH A SNIPER RIFLE.

And in the first level, I’m calmly trying to set up a barricade to block the rage zombies from chewing our privates and Mr Neg over here charges in guns blazing taking on like 20 zombies at once, you’re lucky I blew them all up with that grenade to save your ass, speaking of which, I lost count of how many times I saved you from certain death in that level. :p

But I enjoyed it, we should play again sometime to kick Dr Manjini’s ass.

And I fucking lol’d when I shot a barrel to take out some zombies and accidently got you in the explosion too.

That was the round I had the funky axis on XD

Also, when I played that part in the game, I didn’t barricade at all. The first time I did it, I was shit because I was just learning how to properly aim with an analog stick. The second time, I just went out and pwned the executioner before systematically taking on the regular manjinis.

Isn’t as affecting as when I play alone.

When you’re playing alone you have a bit more control over issues etc.

Working with an ally in co op can be a real challenge because you need to be so precise and articulate with instruction and teamwork.

Upgrade the M3 shotty, does 900 firepower when fully upgraded. That + unlimited ammo is win. Then fully upgrade the S75 sniper rifle, does 2000 firepower when fully upgraded.

Or if you’re like Purrr and can’t actually aim and just love shooting lots, upgrade the VZ61 machine gun completely and it’ll unlock the ability to purchase the Gatling gun for Chris ($30,000) which has unlimited ammo standard.

Why can’t I play as/with Jill in the story mode? Yeah, I agree Sheva has an great looking ass and all that. But now that I’ve unlocked both Jill’s costumes in the Mercenary mode, I would love to be able to play as Jill in SP. I don’t know, I don’t think that anyone as desperate 🙂 as me would ever care about the "weird" (not in the place) voice over.

I’d say that fundamentally it isn’t as good as Resi 4. The variation is extremely lacking compared to 4. And even though the graphics are better, It’s not as good to look at.

But it’s took another change of direction for the series, so it can’t really be compared in a fair way. It’s still a great game. But, at this moment in time, I consider 4 to be better.

However now that my interwebz is back to full speed I doubt any problems shall arise.

And also to play with Neg and Allen at some point. Is it right that if you replay chapters of your current game, you get to keep the stuff you get and you can then go back to the furthest point you’re at and use it?

My friends are home from uni though, so I doubt I’ll even be home at all. (Unless I just say I’m ill. Which I probably will do).

Tip for anyone looking to accumulate points, play 1-2. If you run through it quickly with the AI you can finish it in 4 and a half minutes. If you do it on Veteran, that’s 2000 points each run.

In basic terms, we would have to make new online IDs to have a separate save…I think anyway. I’ll check into it later.

And I’m not going to be checking this thread until I’ve beat the game. The last two pages have posts that are too close to spoilers for my liking. Even if you don’t name anybody or give out the story, it’s easy to see what blanks need to be filled in..

For anyone who has played all the Resident Evil games, I’m sure you’ll remember the first time we encountered the "Licker". Walking down the corridor…drip…drip….drip…puddle of blood containing a man with no head….drip…drip…drip…turn the corner..Ahhh! Leon looks up and we shit our fresh white pants! Crawling along the ceiling upside down and dripping with blood is one scary fucker!

I still think that the Licker’s first reveal is done so much better than some scenes in a lot of top quality horror films.

Anyway, I was really glad to see them back for this game. I just hope the brief few minutes they were involved is not all that I can see of them. However, I’m doubtful because, and this is where I felt like banging my head against a wall, I complete the Boss fight and start a new chapter, only to walk down some stairs and come across zombies carrying guns… Capcom..what were you thinking?

I mean seriously! I know the game has steered far away from the days of fixed camera angles and terrible dialogue (actually, the latter sometimes still stands), but zombies carrying guns is just ridiculous. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not going to stop playing it, I’m enjoying it more at the moment than I have so far, but I’m curious as to who it was that thought this would be a good idea. And yes, as I’ve only just encountered them, I could be wrong about what they actually are. But I’d recognise that green/purple tinted skin and demented look anywhere. Still, I don’t want to stop playing now because I’m getting more and more hooked into the game! (by the way, anyone who thought Jill would actually be in that containment chamber is one naive git!)

I’d say that you’re splitting hairs. But, you are technically correct. Not that it matters. No matter how many Resident Evil games are made, I’d bet that when a person hears the name, their first thought is zombies. It’s what the franchise is known for.

Flux, you too have a valid point, in that ‘zombies with guns’ doesn’t really fit in with RE that well. But if you ever read S.D. Perry’s RE book ‘Caliban Cove’, it’s at least a little less far-fetched(she had ACTUAL zombies with guns in there!) At least these guys have an explanation for being more intelligent(and thus, in my mind, able to operate guns).

Fantastic game. The ending was more than corny enough for my tastes, but I enjoyed every second of it. I smiled when Chris saved Sheva from falling out the plane. I’m too exited to really organise my thoughts into something worth posting. And I want to try Mercenaries. I’ll post better tomorrow.

I was gonna ask you and Neg… do the status of your weapons (upgrades and such) carry over into the Versus mode? If they do, I’ll be at a terrible disadvantage against you two since I’ve barely made it through half way through the game. On Chapter 3-1 now.

I have been playing it since I downloaded it an hour ago. So far my best score is 53,170, on Slayers in Ancient Ruins.

It’s fun, but I’m a little pissed off. I phoned my brother up and told him to log into my account so he could download it. He then started telling me he was exited because he had been reading his guide and it had some cool stuff about Slayers/Survivors. This is annoying because it shows that Capcom have basically ripped us as consumers off for ???3.99. It was already done when they released the game. Strategy guides (at least the one my brother says he has) have information about the DLC that was released almost a month after the game. Why did they not just put it in with the game?!

Yes, I know that they need to make money. But i think it’s silly to charge for something that could easily have been put into the game. LBP is different because people are still working on new ideas and stuff to make the game different. This was already a finished product.

This, and other examples like it(Microsoft paying Bethesda to not make a PS3 port of the expansion for Fallout 3 being one. Though I can’t really complain, Microsoft did fund the expansion. But Bethesda could have just payed for it themselves and then got money from both 360 and PS3 owners), are reasons why I worry that sooner or later people who don’t have Internet/money to buy DLC will start to suffer because the games will just not be anywhere near as good unless you pay for the extras.

Versus is great fun though!

Nope. It’s just like mercenaries from RE4 (if you ever played it). You can find guns and ammo around the arena and from enemy drops. I particularly loved finding a Rocket launcher when I was playing with my brother and killing him before he even saw I had it! That was in survivors mode.

I somehow got this Trophy and didn’t expect to. The only thing I remember doing was just dodging a marshland Majini with a spear with the reaction buttons. I didn’t even shoot his head… but it might been Sheva who got him.

Execution Grounds is where you can get Lead Asprin, easy. I just happened to be there playing through Veteran last night and tried the trick and got it.

Is it me or are the Lickers in this game annoying as hell? They almost refuse to go down, and shooting a shotgun at a semi-distance hardly makes them flinch. This particularly sucks when they’re in a horde.

Forget the freakin’ Grenade Launcher. Takes like 6 Grenade Rounds to take them out. Of course, I haven’t tried how effective the other grenade ammo types work on them.

Ah, I see. I think I only have like 42,000 total so far since I spent a good portion of it for unlimited ammo for Handcannon and the Rifle. And squandered a few thousand on the Figurines.

My quest for money-hunting has ended. I already purchased all weapons and upgrades for them. At this point, collecting 1 of each treasure will suffice for me. 🙂

I earned mine on Chapter 4-1 (the chapter where you first enter the Cave and Ruins). In the Chapter, you get separated where Sheva crosses the bridge and you don’t and have to battle some Wetland Majini on a lower level while she covers from the top area. Weaken a Majini with a couple of Handgun bullets and then lay the Rotten Egg into him.

Yeah but giving your F.Aid Sprays to Sheva is a mistake. She uses them like they’re going out of fashion.

I’ve never had a problem with her healing at inappropriate times. However, I’ve had problems with her burning through her ammo like it’s going out of style.

Just take away her weapons, weaken a manjini with your regular handgun and toss that egg. I took her weapons so I could get Be the Knife 😀

Best thing to do with Sheva(believe it or not) is give her the MP5 and nothing else. The Piercing attribute fits her style of play, since she always aims for the torso, and it’s especially nice when you come across shield Majini. If you’re running low on MG ammo, she performs admirably with a Stun Rod.

Also, I dunno if anyone’s noticed, but be VERY careful if you have her collect herbs. She loves to be stupid and mix two greens, instead of waiting for a red herb. I have not, however, experienced her being stupid with healing…at one point, I was down to a third of my health, and she still wasn’t healing me.

Yeah, she’s done that many times with my green herbs. It usually doesn’t bother me because most stages are littered with herbs. 🙂

Unlocked Clubbin’ Sheva for Mercs.

Patricia Ja Lee, the Pink Ranger from Power Rangers in Space, did the voice of Jill. I adored that show so much when I was 16/17. She was one of my favorites. Nice to see she is still enhancing her career.

I can’t remember how it looked. What happened during the sequence? I’d look it up here at work, but I don’t want anyone here to see me looking up PR material. I’d be such a dork and loser… not that I already aren’t… 😉

Oh yeah… now I remember. Well, that one aspect of might have been bad, but it had a killer storyline (for *that* type of show anyway). I honestly believe they should have ended that show when it ended there. But of course, something always got to get milked dry for money sake.

I have seen this while using the knife there. However, if you shoot the crate/barrel from a distance and have it jump out, you are guarantee to get an egg when you shoot it on the ground.

Finally got "Ride the Lightning" achievement(kill a Majini with electricity). I know, slowpoke.jpg, but I never remember to do it during Chapter 1-1’s mob rush, and in Chapter 2-1, I have more important things to worry about. Still trying to time a shot into an oil canister to get "Stop, Drop, and Roll"(set 3 Majini on fire with an oil canister).

Can I play too? 😉

Actually, those are the wrong ones to use for that achievement. The earliest I’ve seen what I think to be the RIGHT objects to use are in the ship’s hold(Chapter 6-1)…when I shot some of those things, they spread fire like an incendiary grenade.

For those who have a PS3 (I don’t know how it does it on XBox), whenever you’re in the PS3 menu and you select the game disc, the background changes to Chris and Sheva holding their guns.

Does anyone know how to extract that image from the game disc or if it’s even possible? I really dig that image would love to use it as a background for my PS3.

Ari, I’m all for helping with the Max Combo. You just use one of the big Manjinis (the fat ones, not the masked ones) and keep bouncing him back and forth using reaction commands, from what I’ve read.

Hmm… I was under the impression that the max combo was killing of forty consecutive enemies between both players… but then again, when I read the requirements for the trophy, I sort of figured that might have been the realistic way to do it. Ugh… that’s going to be a pain. We can give it a go whenever you want.

Oh, that one! I got that one confused with the "It Takes Two to Tango" trophy from Versus mode.

Somehow, I got the Max Combo thing by accident with the computer at the beginning of Chapter 2-1 with a Majini. Sheva was appropriately positioned to hit him in the back after hooked him, and then I did something to complete the combo.

Still debating whether to do it the "fair" way though, meaning should I use my infinite ammo weapons, or go through the game only using the weapons that are available as I progress through each stage. Of course, I’m not using the original, original guns because I don’t want to have to upgrade everything again…

Managed to get the PSG-1, LH Magnum, and the first handgun with infinite ammo though :D. But even then, still liked RE4 better. I don’t really know why. There’s something about that one that I just didn’t get with this one. At least, not yet. I’ll just try and beat the games I have that still need to be beaten before picking this one up again.

The girlfriend has a 360, and I often play at hers. I don’t have a machine at home and wont until next month, so here in lies the big question. Do I get the 360 and pay the damn subs to play online with her, or go for the PS3 and not pay for online gaming at all? (If that is actually the case – do you pay nothing?)

I had a lot of connection issues in the beginning. When I changed my router settings to use OpenDNS, all PS3 connectivity problems went away.

Mercs or VS mode online? I didn’t know there was Mercs online… but then again, I hardly play Mercs.

Leon is so the underdog in 4, and it’s a challenge to clear the stages with him, but for 5, Chris is just reliable as hell.

Get all the time bonuses, switch to Ithaca shoty, grab the combo bonuses, PROFIT.

You can get some nice combos with Tribal Sheva if you can ignore each stages big baddies well enough. Bow is so overpowered.

There’s talk that the new chapter will be dlc for 360. I hope it’ll be for both systems, because I really don’t want RE5 Wii, no matter that I said that way back when. I was wrong, I do prefer aiming with an analog stick.

There is one way to do it alone… I can try to explain it if you want me to.

I think it has something to do with taking away Sheva’s weapons? I got her to follow up on a melee just before against one of the gatling Majini before Wesker, but I couldn’t execute the third one. But go ahead, then.

Here was the one way I found out you could do this properly. I’m hoping your AI Sheva reacts the same as it does on mine.

Go to Chapter 2-1, preferably in Veteran mode. If you have powered-up all of your pistols at this point, buy a new one of the lowest grade pistol and do not power it up at all. You need a particularly weak pistol for this.

As Chris, open up Chapter 2-1 and exit the Storage Compound. Once outside, proceed to the first explosive line where the Storage Tanks are. Take out the Majini that is cleverly hidden above the crate holding bow gun. Take him out first before destroying the explosive line.

After taking him out, shoot the explosive line. Make sure Sheva is pretty close to you. After blowing up the explosive line, run straight to the corner on the left side. A Majini should be placed in the corridor of crates on the right and he will attempt to charge at you to grab you. If AI Sheva does what she does in my game, she automatically runs past him and is stationed behind the Majini that is trying to grab you. As the Majini charges you, try to shoot the Majini with your pistol in the shoulder which will cause him to turn away a bit in pain. If you did it correctly, when you run up to him, you should see the "Hook" action command. If you hook him, Sheva should come up behind him and kick him. After that, do the last reaction command for "Haymaker".

I’m hoping that does it. I’ve been able to execute that twice in the past successfully. Hopefully it works for you. If it doesn’t, let me know… maybe I can try to make a video file of what I do.

Same here. The method I told Lukey about was the way I got it the very first time, and then it happened again on a later playthrough. So, I figured that was a sure fire way to get it.
