AFAIK, the other major console companies follow similar time lines for their systems
A lot of things can happen from now til then. I see a lot of changes coming…but they should bring back the power glove. It makes my hand powerful. That way I can power glove a sandwich on real cooking mama 2011
It fool a lot of people at first, but serious gamers a waking up and realizing current-gen games really can’t be done on that system, since it’s really last-gen.
Who did Nintendo fool? I knew exactly what I was buying when I got mine. As much fun as "good graphics" are they aren’t even close to the most important part of a game….. having fun. I had more fun playing games like LoZ: TP than I ever had playing Gears of War.
If they find a way to combine good graphics and the wii style of play then by all means, do it. However, I don’t believe it is necessary.
I concur on this comment. I own a PS3 and a Wii and I played Gran Turismo momentarily on the PS3. It has excellent graphics especially on a HDTV. However, I didn’t have much fun playing that as I did Mario Kart Wii.
If they can come out with more innovations, if you want to call them that, like the wii fit board — I think the board is more innovative if you look at it from the perspective of "this could be used for snowboarding games and similar applications rather than just "watch me balance in the center of the board" — then I think the console will remain succcessful. Come out with more things that utilize movement interaction between the player and the game, and not something that just attaches to the wiimote.
But any big ticket "innovations" (i’m hesitant to use innovations because I know a lot of people think the motion sensor stuff is old news, but whatever) that truly revolutionize the system will probably be reserved for the next console, if they continue with the interactive stuff.
And 5 years from now, HDTVs will probably be so standard that it’ll be painful to look at the old non-HD graphics. Who knows, though? It’s hard to speculate anything really at this point. But it will be interesting to see what they do — especially compared to Sony and Microsoft. Right now, the Wii has branched out in a separate direction, leaving Sony and Microsoft to fight among themselves. If Nintendo’s next "next-gen" is simply a wii with improved graphics, interface, and wifi capabilities (including downloads), the system will come across more like a "we’re one step too behind" console, especially if Microsoft and Nintendo continue to beef up their systems.
Kind of rambling here, not sure why D:

Those are 2 very different things. Shooters and Adventure games are not very similar. Now if you said you had more fun playin, say… Metroid Prime 3, that’d be a valid point.

That’s different too, as in Mario Kart the gameplay is really different from GT. So anyone would pick Mario Kart really, now Mario Kart Vs. Crash racing, I’d personally pick Crash.
I wasn’t really referring so much to the gameplay as it was personally more entertaining. For me, racing in GT seemed bland as with racing in Mario Kart was indeed more entertaining. But the graphics are clearly superior to Mario Kart.
I think previous guy’s point is that although graphics look visually appealing, sometimes it doesn’t make up for how much "fun" a game is.
That’s true. I guess I should have looked at more of the type of game. I picked those 2 because they are the "most talked about" when it comes to the systems imo and i had played both.

You may have not been fooled, neither was I. However, many so-called core gamers are now complaining about the Nintendo Wii is not producing games that keep up with the Xbox360 or the PS3, as well as many of their exclusive DL games being very poor compared to the Xbox Live and PS3 DL games.
I think the announcement of a new Wii system is one of the reasons why. They say 2011, but I think it will be 2010 if not 2009.
I agree, but that’s the current issue Nintendo is facing. Core-gamers are complaining that the lighthearted gaming and neat innovations, aim more towards the casual gamer, and they feel cheated.
Nah, actually, what they want is a game with good deep gameplay and replayability. Nintendo (or third parties) hasn’t really delivered a single one on the Wii, save possibly No More Heroes? (not that I’ve played it), and Brawl might count depending on who you ask. MP3 and TP were good efforts, but neither has much replay, and the latter is technically a port. Plus they don’t change the formula much at all from their predecessors. There’s been plenty of more casual games with good gameplay, such as Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, Wario Land: Shake It, etc.., but the huggggggge majority of games coming out for it are super casual shit. The Conduit and Mad World are about the only upcoming games left that I have much hope for, and hopefully the Wii MotionPlus will allow developers to make some games like the Wii was originally supposed to have.
The only thing "limiting" the Wii is graphics (who the fuck cares?) and the complete lack of innovative, quality games coming out for the system. The latter is what was promised when it was announced and they have completley failed to deliver. Nintendo apparently still thinks Wii Music is something the hardcore gaming audience wants even though it isn’t even a game.
NES – 1985
SNES – 1991
N64 – 1996
NGC – 2001
Wii – 2006
"Wii 2" – 2011 – That year sounds about right.
Since "fun" is so subjective I think all 3 next gen systems have at least 1 game that is fun. For me Nintendo has Wii Sports, Mario Kart and SSBB. Those games are fun, especially when you’re playing with others. MP3 and LoZ to me are also fun when I’m playing by myself, to me those 2 are great adventures. Sony has also been giving me good times with MGS4, Ratchet and Clank Future, Uncharted and Warhawk when I want to play by myself or online. However, at the moment none of the games on either system has given me as much fun as LittleBigPlanet (I miss the beta, but 5 more days untill the full game comes out) and WipEout HD. As for the 360, the only games I’ve been interested in have already been (Portal) or are about to be (Bioshock) ported to the PS3. And there are games like Mirror’s Edge and Final Fantasy XIII that are also on both systems.
Right now I’m downloading the Resistance 2 beta. I’ll let you know how fun that is later. As for the Home beta, umm… yeah, Home is pretty boring. But then again what else would you expect from a glorified avatar/online fashion show/wandering-around simulator. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a202/nine_fenrir/robot%20faces/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif
…but seriously, EVERYONE HERE needs to buy a PS3 and LittleBigPlanet next week. You can thank me later. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a202/nine_fenrir/robot%20faces/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
when the NGC was launched, nintendo announced that they were already working in the succesor of the NGC.
about a year later, sony and microsft announced they were also working on the succesors fo their systems.
and back when the 64 was released, in months, it was announced work on the succesor was being done.
now, for the wii 2.
nintendo promised that it will be equal in power to the other 2 systems.
i hope its true.
If you buy it and a PS3 for me I’ll make a level saying I love you and send it to you.
Okay? 😀
Not the DSi crap.
Same goes for the PSP…PSP2…with two fucking nobs; not one damn it!
