The story is top-notch. It’s one huge murder mystery that just has so many twists and turns. You are a transfer student from the city who just happens to arrive to the small town of Inaba and already this seemingly boring town has ANYTHING but BORING written all over it. SOMEONE WAS MURDERERERED! And not just that…the body was found hanging on an antenna on top of a roof. WTF? First day of school in a peaceful town and this shit happens? Let the story begin. Seriously, I loved it.
The characters? Maaaaan, no sweat. This cast of characters is a blast to be around for oh 70+ hours. Lol, yeah that’s about how long it is. Really tho, the characters are so well developed that you really feel like you know them. ATLUS and crew really did a great job. Maaaaad props to the English vocal cast as well, for being excellent. They mix so well and made for lots of funny moments that had me lmao a lot of the time.
Gameplay? Psh, do you have to ask? It’s social simulator/dating sim + RPG. Apart from key events, you get to go to school, interact with schoolmates/party members to improve your social links, work at a part time jobs to earn money and raise social statistics such as courage and knowledge. When it’s time to get down to business, you and you party members enter a TV world where all the battling takes place. Battling is where this game hits or misses, but it hit the bullseye. Truly fun to play. Think of POKEMON! I know…I had to say it, but it sorta is like that. Elemental weaknesses play a big part in it. All in all, gameplay is awesome.
And finally…the Soundtrack? Man, Shoji Meguro is one of the best composers out there. I gotta say…he really outdid himself here. Catchy guitars, nice hip-hop elements and just plain awesome tunes.
I never thought this could be better than Persona 3. Don’t get me wrong…I really liked P3, but it didn’t make want to put it on my top ten games of all time. P4 just may very well be up there and this game just solidifies the Shin Megami Tensei series of games as a one of the best.
So if you ever want to pick up a Persona game…P4 would be the bee’s knees.
ALSO: I meant to place this in the RPG section. Whoopz.
I’d like to add that I really enjoyed the battle system more than the previous P3 specifically because they’ve dispensed with fatigue which makes managing a decent party less of a chore. Achieving such a balance takes a lot of stress off the player when you can feasibly level to your heart’s desire. At least I feel less worried about those deadline boss fights. Also, the after battle bonuses are usually kick ass.
Just sucks I didn’t max out all my social links.
What do you want him to do? Go forward in time and play Killzone 2? (I can’t wait to kick your arse on that game!)
There, noskill. I actually meant to go back and correct that eventually.
I meant 2008.
I jest.
I jest.
Lol….this forum has a sense of humor..i like, anyway
I always look into my games before purchase and saw that there was some bonus content in FES called the answer…which is apparently long enough for its own game and rivals the length of most RPG’s
I’m very much looking forward to it after quite a nice review by Edge.
I’m 10 hours in P4, and 5 minutes in FES
I bought them a month ago and haven’t touched them, not because i don’t like them…but i have papers to and i can’t enjoy games when i have school work bugging my conscience
I like the new features improved from P3 to P4; Arcana chances, controlling the whole party, and the fact you don’t need to wait 1 turn to get up, etc, etc.
Despise all improvements made in this one, I still prefer P3 over this one. The dungeons are much wider and you can send your team do teh dirty work for you. I’m also biased towards the P3 cast, I didn’t grew too much attached to the P4 Cast.
wish my schoolin days where like that.
persona 2 was good when the dungeons where in first person too
I also enjoy seeing the contrasting speech boxes on screen, the orange and the black are suitable for the eyes’ comfort. Not to mention that the game itself has top notch plot.
However, nothing can be perfect. I always get sleepy once I battle, because that’s all there is to it… Pressing the same buttons all the time. Personally I prefer Tales of series battle system, or KH because they require you to move the charas around. And there are still so many flaws made for the dungeons.
Nevertheless, I like Shin Megami Tensei series. And P4 is the favorite. <3
Best JRPG I’ve played, and my favorite game currently. xD
Anyone else wish the Main Character didn’t always have such stupid hair in the Persona games though? P1 was oddly tall and thin (due to editting, I understand), P2 has a tulip head, P3 has an emo flop and P4 has a bowl cut. Yikes.
Oh man, why is the main character doesn’t talk at all? he only make sounds in battles 🙁
Haven’t played it so far.
Is it released in europe?
On the very next day, while on my daily stroll, I happened to see it there in the shelves, in all it’s reasonable price glory and I knew fate’s hand was at work here.
Having never played an RPG before, I was somewhat reluctant but sorta "grew a pair" and decided to give it a shot. Many factors were influential, namely:
– firstly, the demonology and mythology aspects, as I just love that stuff (I think I fused and re-fused and re-re-fused the likes of Mother Harlot, Lilith and Helel until I accomplished nothing less than utter perfection)
– the overall colourful "happy-retro" look of the game. Seriously, when games nowadays are brown, black and grey, this was a complete breath of fresh air
– the cast, who I adored for their common folk simplicity (on the other hand I can’t stand the P3 crew since most look like a bunch of stuck up rich kids). And as beat mentioned, props to the english voice actors. They’ve done an excellent job – not above average, not good, not great – excellent.
– some gameplay aspects such as the possibility to directly control all party members (another reason why I won’t bring myself to play P3)
These were the "good things" I saw in the game. Others appeared, and those who played it know them – the compelling story, the great moments both humorous and dramatic (I still regard scenes like the school campout and field trip as some of the funniest things I’ve ever seen in any medium), the clever writing that never leaves anything to chance…
Alas, as every rose as it’s thorns, I do think this game is not entirely free of criticism, though these are more nitpicks than anything else:
– difficulty: save a few specific battles, the game is something of a breeze after the second rescue (name withheld to avoid spoilers)
– was expecting more Personas, namely more Ars Goetia demons (the ones available are all low level)
– The Protagonist should have the ability to punch people in the throat. Seriously. Punch the teammates in the throat for bugging him 24-7 to go to the TV only to get there and start whinning that they don’t want to be there. And especially punch Igor in the throat for ruining that Triangle Fusion we wasted 20m on to get that exact perfect set of 4 specific skills.
Well, these are my elongated 2 cents on the title. Here’s hoping the rumoured Persona 5 will be as good. Personally, I don’t mind if they keep the same cast.
Im currently playing P3 Fes, now I will know the proper ending.
The original P3 didnt have the ending, it left you with many Q’s and no answers.
i love the music i just got the original ost’s for P3 Fes and P3 and im enjoying evry bit of them
Agh! Tales! Thank Christ they’re remaking this with extra bonus content for ps3!
But yeah P4. I’m still playing it, and I fucking love it. I love the art and the story and the voices are other voices of my favorite game characters!!! Like Guy from Tales of the Abyss! x3
The voice acting was absolutely superb imo.
