What is acceptable in anime and what is not

I hadn’t watched that many anime as of late but I am beginning to find how that there are things that are praised in anime yet there are things that are considered to be taboo. I know it is from a different culture and people do things differently over there however I beginning the general trends of what is acceptable and what is not acceptable in anime although I am just seeing now. My question is what is considered to be acceptable and what usually gets the thumbs down in anime shows?

Girls wearing skimpy school uniforms, with big boobs and low IQs seems to be pretty acceptable. Come to think of it I can’t recall if there was anything deemed "unacceptable" in anime. Maybe bestiality, or food sex but that has probably been done somewhere…

It depends on the age range the anime is aimed at. If it’s aimed at kids to teens, then brief nudity is acceptable over there, but with females, it’s barbie-doll if below the waist. usually it’s even barbie-doll above the waist, and normally only in transformations. almost any character can be depicted in this fashion. (ie Yumeria) The nudity outside the transformation scenes are censored by conveniently placed objects or steam. little boys for some reason can be nude without censorship. Don’t ask me why. (Examples of such are Dragonball episode 1, Dragonball Z episode 8, and Inuyasha episode 16.) Blood is also acceptable, but no gore. Deaths can be graphic. (ie dbz, special beam cannon through gut, Energy disc slicing a person in half.) Teens to adults, it’s basically the same thing, but gore can also be present (ie Elfen Lied) With nudity, nipples are usually present as well. For adults, it’s anything goes. That is called either Ecchi, or hentai and is beyond the graphical limits of this forum to discuss.

Anything goes, only factor that decides the content is the law of the country its being screened at (unless the country is JP, like 10000 posters before me have said)

That’s ok with Hentai, but what about non-Hentai? Anime for 17 and youngers have to have stricter limits, even in japan. Just because they have a strong value in family, doesn’t mean they will let their kids watch anything they want. It’s just that the shows have a much more lenient rating system. I already specified the restrictions for anime in japan, including hentai, but contrary to popular belief, Japan is not an anything goes country. Otherwise, anime wouldn’t be in America period. The anime here is just edited from japan, and even then, some anime are edited there anyway. Look at Naruto. His Sexy jutsu has smoke obscuring the privates even in Japan, all they really did here was toned down the blood and removed the language. Great Britain edited it more severely than we did, giving the sexy jutsu a swimsuit. But that’s off topic.

Anyway, this is a topic about the restrictions for anime, not hentai. So, let’s not say that japan can do whatever they want, and start listing restrictions beyond the ones I’ve listed. believe it or not, Japan has morals too.

they of xourse have their starndards like everywhere else.
you aint gonna see hentai aimed at toddlers, but also aint gonna see an oversized yellow hipopotamus teaching adults how to read.
anything goes in japan, as long as it keeps their limits according to their rating.
for example, maybe death is not as taboo as it is in the US, so maybe you CAN see a toddler oriented anime talking about death.
its an entirely different culture that is pretty much self-centered.
they dont do anime to appeal foreigners, they do it for themselves.
so if it is ok to show death to toddlers for them, then it is fine and im pretty sure they wont give a damn if foreigners complain.

I’ve always felt that the "everything goes" kind of attitude is what makes anime so unique. Certainly a lot more interesting than a lot of crummy TV shows that have been showing lately. I’ll take Anime over American Idol any day.

Yeah there doesn’t seem to be any kind of limit here when I think about it, I think it would have to do with how the story is going and how people feel about what the’re watching
