Don’t play them all just to measure up to some mythical idea of the "true fan".
So yes I’d just echo cameron and doomjockey, don’t let it matter too much to you. 🙂
You said it your self in that last sentence, sounds like you enjoy the series therefore are a fan. A "true fan" i suppose will eventually get around to playing them all and building a FF collection.
Now know your role and get back to merging those VII remake petition threads 😡
Your the only fan of the series?
So yes I’d just echo cameron and doomjockey, don’t let it matter too much to you. 🙂
I’m a true fan of you Trent ^___^
I think if you only play the games with the current standard of graphics, then you’re a bit lame. I am currently going back to play the SNES/NES games, which I’ve bought for my PSX. I have currently won 4 and 6 and I hope to do 5 soon.
Point is, there are so many variables that would decide if you’re a true fan. I think that when people have really predictable favourite characters, like Squall, Cloud, Sephiroth and Vincent, I lose a bit of respect for them as fans. I just think that they choose not to look past the spotlight characters and realise the other ones are just as good.
If you want to be a true fan, win all the Sony titles first. Then get to work on the SNES/NES titles. It’s not completely necessarry for you to do that, but itll put your worries to rest.
are they the same?
BTW, I’ve played (not all completed though):
I
II
VI
VII
VIII
IX
X
X-2
XII

Final Fantasy 4 was released in America as 1 (as the first 3 were Japan only), and Final Fantasy 5 as 2, so 6 was released as 3, thus the confusion. (something like that?)
So yeah, Final Fantasy 3 and 6 are completely different games.
But how come 1 and 2 are now available to UK and USA?
3 isn’t? :S
EDITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT: o wait: does that mean USA and UK haven’t even SEEN 1 – 3?
because our FFI is actually 4? :S
Final Fantasy IV was released as II
Final Fantasy VI was released as III
Real II was released later as part of the Origins (PS1) Dawn of Souls (GBA a few other systems)
Real III was released later on the DS
IV and VI got re-numbered back as part of the Chronicles and Anthology release for PS1.
IV with V on Anthology
VI and Chrono Trigger on Chronicles
It’s something like that.
*Edit: Correction, Thanks Neg! <3
and
I endorse playing 1-6, to a staggering degree.
And I wanna be an EVEN HUGER fan of u, Carl Paladino. :-*

SO CLOSE ALLEN <333
Oh and II and I were released as Origins on PSX, as well. Not just as Dawn of Souls.
VI and Chrono Trigger packed together would result in a rift in timespace. Too much awesome in one package, mir?
Zogm you know my name :-*
Final Fantasy (I) was release as Final Fantasy in all regions it was released in.
Final Fantasy II was originally only released in Japan.
Final Fantasy III was originally only released in Japan.
Final Fantasy IV was released as IV in Japan, but due to no II and III outside of Japan, it was released as II in the West.
Final Fantasy V was originally only released in Japan.
Final Fantasy VI was released as IV in Japan, but due to no III, IV and V outside of Japan and IV taking the role of II, it was released as III in the West.
Final Fantasy VII was released as VII internationally because Square of America thought that they want to screw it.
The releases after the SNES and NES ones, though, are correctly numbered. So every II or III you find on the GBA, DS or anywhere else are actually the real II or III. As said: Only the SNES cartridges are labelled different.
Chart:
Japan -> US
I -> I
II
III
IV -> II (SNES version)
V
VI -> III (SNES version)
VII and everything after -> VII and everything after
Luckily, there are no remakes of the original II and III, so the only SNES cartrides saying II and III are IV and VI respectively.
IV and Chrono Trigger are Chronicles.

Haha, sorry.
Had just barely woke up when I posted that and had to get
ready for work.
