Which forum would be best for…

Random games? I don’t mean like video games discussion, I mean like message-board sort of games to play on here, as in the rumbles or trivia games, or that A-Z game in TV/Movies. But where would we post things like that that are just miscellaneous and don’t have certain themes?

I had a pretty fun game in mind I was gonna post, but realized there wouldn’t be a place for it. I hope the answer’s not GD, cause anything like that would be ripped apart in seconds there.

I’m probably not in a position to do so but can I suggest the idea of a forum for that?

we’ve had the suggestion of a forum like this or a general spam forum a fair few times now, i think the consensus is that it should just go in GD and if it’s worthwhile it’ll be picked up

I thought GD already IS a General spam forum.

But why are you comparing my suggestion to a "general spam forum", you seem to be implying that it’s a "specific spam forum", yet what I’m referring to isn’t in the least bit spam.

Sorry to bump this but I actually just noticed you’re the mod of GD, in which case, no offense, but I find it rather pathetic that you’d say something like:

and seeming completely apathetic over whether it happens or not, and not bothering to even ask what it is. At least Agent has us PM him when we want to start something like that in one of his forums and offers to help keep it from getting ripped apart if he approves.

And I’m still interested in an answer to my last question.

No one can hope to moderate GD. TC can’t change the very nature of it.

I haven’t asked what your thread is because until now it was enough to know that it was a game thread on a miscellaneous topic. The place for that type of thread – ie one whose topic is general – is General Discussion. A Forum Games forum would be largely redundant given that we’ve already rejected the idea of both a spam forum and a serious discussion forum, preferring to amalgamate both into GD, to greater or lesser success. Once, long ago, we did have forum games posted in GD which worked, were posted in and generally were tolerated.

I am not sure why you think it’s "pathetic" that I’m aware of and understand the nature of the forum I moderate. You post in GD, so I’m sure you know that it’s not like the FF forums, being fairly laid-back and largely resistant to authority being imposed on it. I am all for you trying to start your game thread there and give it my support. If people are interested in it, then it will succeed. If not, it won’t. If people shit it up, ignore them as best you can. Usually, if the consensus is that a topic is worthwhile it is left largely free of needless spam and that which is posted is ignored.

Right, sorry… yeah, I’m aware of the nature in GD which is why I was iffy about posting whatever there in the first place. And I appreciate the laid-back aspect of it.

The point I was trying to make is, unless they’re new, if someone’s familiar with GD and how it works, they’d probably feel shy about posting certain things there in fear of being treated as a walking joke, and they shouldn’t feel that way. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy participating there that’s why I was thinking maybe there should be another section, but of course that’s not my call.

Despite my comment about moderation before, I had pictured this being moderated on the same loose lax as GD, I’m saying I’d just feel awkward trying to post a serious game thread amidst all the joke threads and chaos that is GD and get my head chewed off. If it was surrounded by other threads of the same nature, wouldn;t be as bad.

Lax moderation would undoubtedly be the policy, but the problem isn’t really about tight rules so much as checking for ad spammers, trolls, malicious links, etc. There is some stuff that you do have to watch out for even if it’s lax.

I see what you mean, but it’s just not realistic to create and moderate an entire forum just so a few people can post one liners in game threads without thinking someone will trash the thread. If you really feel the need to post a game thread in GD I will insist people not shit it up and delete posts if necessary. I think you’d be better off just doing it on a forum where that sort of thing is more regular, but it’s up to you.

On the other hand, if you put some time into it and think up a game that’s actually really neat, you will get people participating and having fun and nobody will want to shit up the thread. If it’s something like "POST WORDS IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER!" well, frankly, I can see why people would be kind of disdainful of it.
