Having some trouble with recording

Hi all.

I’m using Project 64 with Jabo’s Directsound plugin, and am using it to record certain sections of conker’s bad fur day, which it writes to a WAV.

I’m having some issues with the recording though, as each track seems to be producing a sharp beeping/screeching sound. You can listen to a sample here (not cut and tidied up): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=6W1N65PM

Does anyone know what the cause of this is and how I could get rid of it? It might be reverb of somesort, or the ROM being used.

I didn’t hear any sharp beep/screech in this sample other than the censorship bleep. Actually, the only thing that I heard wrong was that it sounded a tad bit fuzzy like it had a bit of static or something (this could be the game though, since I haven’t played it myself to know). Although, if it sounds right when you just listen to it, you could always use Audacity to record as you play. It should record it just as you hear it, then you can edit anything out and export as a WAV easily. A quick Google search should find you Audacity if you want it.

I sent the sample to another friend to try on his computer and he said he had no beeping either… odd.

I have also tried Audacity before, but for some reason I can’t get it to record what’s going through my computer. There only seems to be two options available – Line In and Microphone, neither of which work. I’ve also tried it on Wavelab and Freecorder, same thing.

That’s not a problem to fix. Double click your little speaker in the task bar at the bottom of your computer, this should open up something called "Master Volume". Here you can change the settings for your volume – wave, SW synth, etc…, in this click "Options" and then "Properties". In a drop down box in this, there should be "Line in/Mic in", choose that and then hit OK. This brings up "Recording Control". You should check this and make sure that "Stereo Mix" is not muted. With stereo mix turned on, it now registers what is being played through the speakers as a line in.

Edit 2: I forgot to mention that you might want to go and re-mute the stereo mix when you go to talk to someone (talk as in using a microphone) online through a messenger of some type (Windows Live, Yahoo! Messenger, etc..) because this can cause some weird echoes when it is turned on.

Well.. I’m really confused as I’m not seeing what you are. I get this:

The "Virtual Cables" is something I read up on the internet, I thought the program could work but haven’t thus far had any success. :[

I see what it is. What happened is that my first device is just the output, your SigmaTel has the output and input in the same thing. Just click the circle where it says "Recording" under "Adjust Volume". That should change the list inside the box so that it looks something like this:

What you need to show up is the "Stereo Mix", like I said before. If it shows up in the box, click OK to go to where you can change the settings for those.

And as for helping, it’s not a problem. I remember back when I was having the same problem and had to have a friend come and show me what to do. I believe that knowledge should be shared, and since you need the help, I will do what I can. 🙂

Hmmmm…this is something that I have no idea on how to fix. It seems that other people were having the same problem with getting Stereo Mix to show up. Here is a site that might have the info that you need to get it up and working like this:

If this doesn’t work out, maybe you could find a different emulator, sound plug-in, or even just a different ROM that will give you results without the beeping or screeching sounds that you are hearing. If you were wanting just parts of this game, there might also be someone who has already cut up clips and posted them somewhere. You could always try searching for something like that if nothing else works out.

I can hear a buzzing sound within the background, and it also sounds a tad bit muffled.

Anyways, what type of computer are you using? I remember having this same problem with my Dell Inspiron E1705…

I use a script in mIRC which can output this stuff, and it gave me:

Intel� Celeron� CPU 3.20GHz @ 3192MHz (Dell Inc. 0JC474 mainboard)

On the computer itself, it says "Dimension 3100".

Fixed! Downloaded this driver update from a forum where all users were having the same problem. I now have Stereo Mix. 😀

However I’m still getting beeping…

I’m glad you were able to get the Stereo Mix to work. If you are still hearing beeping though, you might want to try a new ROM.
